The place we usually order from or go to was closed. So we tried Iron Chef House for the first time. We put in a large-ish order, (over a hundred dollars) and it took about an hour and a half to be delivered. Which would have been fine had the food been worth it. It was cold and sloppy. Sushi rolls were very loose and fell apart when you tried to pick them up. And the ingredients did not taste fresh. Just an overall FAIL. read more

Every time I come to New York I absolutely have to visit Brooklyn and when I do, eating at Iron Chef is a must! I first came upon this place the very first time I visited New York. I asked a local woman from Brooklyn where a good place to get dinner was and she suggested Iron Chef--that's how you know it's good! I wouldn't have found this little place had it not been for my savvy friend's recommendation, but I'm so glad we checked it out! The sushi is amazing - I went with my go-to sushi order, a salmon avocado roll with brown rice and some salmon sashimi and it was SOOOOO GOOODDDD, I am salivating thinking about it right now. I've been to the Iron Chef a few times for lunch and dinner and never had a bad experience. There's always a line to dine in and even during the pandemic there was a long line for pick up. My all time favorite appetizer is the calamari salad. Everyone who has tried it loves it. Their house special sushi are always great too. This week I tried the 2011 (lobster tempura roll) and soft shell crab roll and it was absolutely delicious! I definitely recommend this place for a date night or just hanging with friends. read more

Have been back for a while, this is a really good spot to have sushi dinner, not expensive at all, very satisfied meal, big portion for people who crave for sushi but don't want to spend $150 for a dinner of 2, and end up still being hungry when they get home. We come here a lot, food is great, service is decent, and pricing is very affordable (comparing to the other sushi restaurant). The only thing is hard to find a parking here, but it's not their problem, it's the city's problem, lol. I ended up at Iron Chef House purely by accident. I ventured out to this neck of the Brooklyn woods for a much better sushi restaurant down the street (just being honest here) without realizing that it's closed on Sundays. Oops. So I decided to get my sushi fix elsewhere. The monster appetizer is certainly an eye-grabbing, grandiose spectacle. Tall, round bowl filled with a scoop of fish/imitation crab/pineapple/avocado mixture and sauces. It was ok.. average in fish quality and size. Seems like Iron Chef's star roll is the Monkey roll since the menu proudly boasts about exactly how many of those bad boys they have pushed out since whatever year, but let's face it, it's really just an overpriced $11 tempura shrimp roll topped with avocado and a sweet sauce. Tasty? Sure, I like fried shrimp. Anything I'd brag about eating or hurry back for more? No, this is more of an item that could be ordered for a toddler or someone who doesn't truly like fish or sushi, not anything that deserves to be put on a pedestal. Spicy Yellow Dragon Roll is where I have my biggest bone to pick with this experience- all the meat inside of it was blended.. Why?! Sure, the menu claims I'm eating tuna, yellow tail, and crabmeat, but you could have fooled me. Was the fish blended in a food processor? Gross. All I could think about was that the fish used for this roll was leftover scraps from better cuts of meat used for sashimi/nigiri. The soggy tempura crumbs on top didn't exactly improve the situation. For a $14.50 roll, this was a huge disappointment. Iron Chef is not the priciest sushi establishment around, but it is also not exactly a bargain, especially when the quality or creativity is lacking. The menu is insanely long and overwhelming as well. I prefer a less ample selection, but one that is done well. Hard pass for my future sushi endeavors. read more

I may order from here again one day but I'm just not sold on this place. Only ordered from here a couple of times but it's never been impressive. Last night ordered the shumai, spicy salmon roll and monkey roll. The monkey roll was really good! Definitely one of those rolls that some people would turn their noses up at for not being legit sushi but make something with sweet dark sauce, shrimp tempura and avocado and I'm gonna enjoy it. The spicy salmon roll was ok. Nothing particularly spicy about it. The shumai was baaaaad. You can buy the exact same stuff from Trader Joe's and make it in the microwave with a damp paper towel so do yourself a favor and don't bother. There's two sushi places closer to me one of which I really enjoy so will probably just stick with those. read more

I walked by and "found" this restaurant on a nice warm spring day. Felt safe, servers wore masks. I chose to sit in the cute little covered outdoor area. I've been meaning to update my review of Iron Chef for about 2 years now. Mea culpa, mea culpa. Iron Chef is a cozy little Japanese restaurant/sushi bar located near the heart of Brooklyn Heights. After experiencing all of the sushi restaurants within a 10 block radius of my home, I must say that Iron Chef House has now become my favorite sushi joint in B Heights. After switching to brown rice sushi, I have found that nobody else makes brown rice as well as they do. It's fresh, fluffy, and obviously not made in a microwave. Often I go to ICH for their Saturday lunch special to enjoy a peaceful, cheap meal of yummy sushi. Their lunch special is 2 rolls for $7.95 which comes with soup and salad. Brown rice costs $1 extra per roll. My favorites are their spicy tuna roll, the Rising Sun roll (eel roll topped with salmon and cavier), spicy salmon roll and any other special roll combos. I think they excel with rolls more than they do with nigiri or sashimi but that is just my opinion. I also love their miso soup but it's hard to screw that one up. Plating is always nicely presented and service is attentive. ICH also has a nice sake list which is decently priced for the money conscious drinker. If you do go for dinner, please note that the environment becomes completely different as it can be extremely crowded and LOUD on a Friday/Saturday night. This past weekend was no exception as my friend and I snagged the last table available and saw a line of people waiting outside to get into this little place. Prepare to have people practically on top of you on either side as they are trying to fit in as many tables as possible. One of these days I need to throw all caution to the wind and order the Sakura Roll (spicy tuna and salmon roll, topped with king crab meat) and the Special Lobster Roll (spicy lobster, crunchy flakes and avocado on top). I am surprised I lived here so long without trying this place, but thats probably because I usually eat sushi when I am not with kids. But we tried this place just to shake things up, and was really pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed the sushi pieces in addition to the rolls, and now I have to say I might prefer sushi over rolls after having really fresh sushi at this place - it tastes better and is healthier. This place is also reasonably priced. Had the triple spicy roll dinner, which was good, and the Tuna and Salmon sushi dinner, both were good. the only negative might be that they have a little too much rice in the sushi, but its a not a big deal. will be back to try some of the other sushi / rolls as well. read more

One of the best sushi places around, hands down. And, luckily, it's located just a few feet away from our place here in Brooklyn Heights. So, what makes this place so great? Well, first off, the food is tasty! They offer both mainstream rolls (spicy tuna, Philadelphia, etc.) and speciality rolls... and also feature daily chef's specials, bento boxes, etc. etc. Some of my favorite rolls from the menu include the Monkey Roll (shrimp tempura w/ avocado and spicy sauce) and the Crazy Dragon Rol (spicy crabmeat w/ eel, tuna, & salmon). Also tasty at Iron Chef are the appetizers, soups, and salads. I recommend the Yaki Udon chicken noodle soup! Awesome!! As for atmosphere, it's great, too. Iron Chef House is the place to get sushi in Brooklyn Heights. With a dim intimate interior, expert sushi chefs, a broad menu, reasonable pricing, and fast service, its hard to think of anything I didn't like. In our trip here, Perry and I ordered the Love Boat, which came with soup or salad and a literal boatload of fresh fish and a few rolls. The fish was varied, from standard salmon, tuna, and white tuna, to amberjack, snapper, and fluke, tofu skins, and eel. Some pieces were sushi, some sashimi, and the rolls were quite tasty. All the fish was fresh, cool, and refreshing. There was definitely enough food for two people without feeling like we gorged ourselves. The Love Boat is definitely easy on the wallet, at about $20 a person. I definitely would love to come back and try something new on the menu. For now - YAY! I'm a fan. read more

One big improvement. Iron Chef House in Brooklyn Heights used to have lunch hours from 12 to 2.45p. If a patron arrived at 2.15p and would obviously not be paid and out by 2.45p, the management would pressure them. Other restaurants tend to allow patrons to arrive as late as 2.44p and take their time. Bad news about their new hours of 12noon to 10p is that the luncheon deals are gone, some dishes half price of what they were at dinner time. Some reviewers praise their sushi. I have not tried their specialty roles but the regular rolls such as eel, California, avocado and the like use rice that may have been prepared hours before. I have been here a ton of times and almost every time I leave with a belly full of sushi! The first time I came I had the vegetable terayaki. It was only $7 and it was delicious! It also came with a salad that has a carrot dressing and even came with a cup of miso soup. Not a bad deal at all. But then I got the 2 roll sushi special!! I was hooked! I love sushi and it's only $8.75. And the sushi came with the salad and soup top. I love getting the spicy shrimp and crab roll and the salmon roll. Last time I threw them a curve ball and got two rolls of salmon with avocado! I was one happy camper! And then the other week, my co worker and I got the bento box for $9.50! I couldn't believe my eyes! Shumai, spring roll, salad, house noodles and then you had options for the last portion of teriyaki, california roll, sashimi, sushi roll or tempura. Came here again for a sit-in dinner. I got the Valentine's roll -- IT IS BOMBIN. My friend got the Phoenix Roll (also bombin, so I hear) and another friend got their udon [1]. Again, only complaint is that the rice is not as soft and chewy as Sushi Gallery in the 2-subway station. Service is a little slow in getting out the menus and getting us our orders. But we also had no wait and great sushi, so it was still a solid dining experience [2]. [1] Not sure about the udon quality but that thing was HUGE and it had endless stuff in it. I've lived in this neighborhood for over 11 years and always enjoyed coming here and bringing my friends and family here. It was the neighborhood secret- excellent sushi at decent price. It was creative and artistic. There was a woman who already greeted you like you were family. She had an accent- perhaps Malaysian? She was short (maybe 5'2?) but her personality was huge. When I didn't make plans to eat there but saw that she was working, I would always go in. Fast forward to now, this woman is no longer there. It has been over two years since I saw her. I inquired once and was told that she went back to her homeland. Along with her departure went the quality of the food. I was skeptical- maybe the chef is having a bag day. After ordering a few times for pickup and eating in once, I'm now certain not only has the chef change, management in general is different. The woman who runs the front of house now always looks pissed. Service is not as friendly. Although the menu is the same as before, the rolls are skimpy. Look at how much rice there is! They skimp with the fish too. The first pic (takeout) is my lunch from today. The following pics were taken from 2013-2018. Granted those pics are from dining in (I never take pictures of my take out) but I can guarantee you that when I ordered take out through those years, the takeout was always as beautiful as their dine in. I promise. -Walk out with a happy face, knowing that you had relatively cheap sushi (and other Japanese things ofc) in a pretty good neighborhood. Don'ts: -Don't order the Volcano BEEF if you're looking for the dish with an avocado that gets set on fire.
