There's not a lot of good sushi in DUMBO, but I found out through Eat24 that Iron Chef House over in Brooklyn Heights delivered to my office. My lunch order was: -Iron Chef Spicy Roll (tuna, scallop, avocado, caviar) -Any 2 rolls for $11 (I did the Spicy Tuna/Yellowtail and the Spicy Eel/Crab) The fish was fresh, the rolls were well made. They ones I ordered were pretty no-frills, but that's not a problem when you're getting delivery and the rolls are so good. I'd definitely recommend everything I had. I'm shocked to be disappointed after some of the reviews I read that initially made me want to give this place a shot. I feel bad even saying that the sushi was absolutely tasteless and didn't taste or look fresh at all... the waitress was very sweet and it seems like a hole in the wall type joint but I had some high hopes for it. Maybe LA sushi is just different or I didn't try for right spots but i really hope this places quality improves. I started with jack's special which had a bed of fried potatoes I.e. French Fries with tuna and salmon on top. I had lunch box combo with Beef Teriyaki, mixed vegetables, shumai, salad, spaghetti, and an egg roll. The steak was cooked medium rare with a bit of sear. The veggies were tender. The spaghetti had a good consistency. The dumplings were steamed from a frozen package as was the frozen egg roll. They served it with a dollop of French's mustard. Tiffany had a Lunch Sashimi Platter which had salmon, Tuna, snapper and white fish. The bed of daikon radish looked like it was cut with a machete. They used whole fresh parsley instead of shiso leaf. The pieces were thick in almost a bad way. Overall the service was too attentive for the place not being too crowded. read more

I've been to the restaurant before the pandemic and the food was alright, no big complaints, but I just ordered delivery from them today and I was so disappointed. I ordered a sweet potato tempura roll and crazy dragon roll and they were very mediocre. The sweet potato roll was so dry and both rolls had WAY too much rice on it that when I tried to eat it I tasted nothing but rice. I had to physically pull rice off the edges in order to taste the filling. I also noticed when taking a photo of the sushi that there were small, short black hairs on it. Iron Chef has been the family's go-to sushi spot since they opened back in the 90s. I just moved back to the neighborhood and am SO HAPPY to be back in the delivery zone for Iron Chef. The sushi is always fresh, handled with care, and delicious. The team is always nice, delivery has been very timely during COVID and I am always happy to see them. Finding decent affordable weeknight sushi spots in near proximity to our neighborhood has been a challenge. We usually finish our meal feeling pangs of regret and mercury shakes. The BF came across Iron Chef House on Yelp the other day and with its good reviews we decided to give it a try. Restaurant is what you would expect - casual, small, and cozy. We shared a seaweed salad, house salad, two miso soups, an order of the sushi deluxe, and three maki rolls. Only complaints were that they served us 'white tuna' in the sushi deluxe, which we recently found out is not a 'real' fish. They also gave us a salmon avocado roll when we asked for eel avocado. But nonetheless, the fish was fresh, the service was good and for the price, the sushi was pretty darn good compared to its nearby competitors! Heard some really good reviews from friends about this place, they finally took us here to eat. The place is small and cozy, good idea to make reservations beforehand. The service was good, waiters were friendly. We ordered a few appetizers for the table and we loved it. I personally like their appetizers more than their entree. Me and my husband both had the sashimi deluxe. I was able to opt for red snapper instead of white tuna that was included. Rice came in a separate bowl, but it was a bit on the harder side, we prefer soft and hot rice. Fish quality was not bad, it was fresh, but the pieces of sashimi was quite thin. FOUND ROLLED UP DIRTY NAPKIN IN MY FOOD. I came to this restaurant because of the reviews (4 stars and over 400 reviews, not bad right). I was VERY wrong though. I ordered a dinner box (chicken teriyaki) and realized that there was a rolled up burnt napkin thrown in between my chicken. It was disgusting. I called over the waiter who had no idea what it was and he then brought out a lady who I assume is the manager. She said it was "display" at first and that I could "eat it" and when i unfolded the napkin even more, she hesitated and told me to not eat it actually. She realized it wasn't a display but instead a rolled up burnt napkin. That is so dirty and I don't understand how they could let this happen. Would not recommend this place. I'm SOOO grossed out. I made rezzies here to dine with some friends before the famous Peter D's bday and I was not disappointed. For $18 I left with a full on sushi coma. Ya, no joke. Make reservations, it does get packed. Don't be a dick and show up on time, this place literally has 10 tables. I went with the sashimi platter with 6-8 pretty thick cuts of fresh salmon, tuna and .... and.... I forget the last fish type, but it was good. The bento box came with the best miso soup I've ever had filled with fresh vegetables, shumai, noodles and a Cali roll with tuna. Yep. The only flaw in this meal were the noodles. They were cold and flavorless. Friends had rolls, tempura and sashimi and everyone was super happy with the quality, quantity and of course the price. Did I mention even the sake was pretty inexpensive, because it was. I'd come again and definitely recommend you go if looking for a quality sushi meal at a great price point. This is our preferred sushi location in Brooklyn, or all of NYC for that matter. The most important thing for you to know is that you must order the monkey roll. Everything is good, but it's all about the monkey roll. Monkey roll, monkey roll, monkey roll. (It's probably good luck to say it 3 times.) A café size restaurant intimate small but produces good quality sushi and Sashimi that is fresh to eat my fill. Assorted Sashimi regular platter comprises of a choice of soup or salad. Choice of hot Green Tea or water is offered. My hot Green tea was invigorating to the senses with fresh loose tea leaves rather from a standard mass produced tea bag. Atmosphere is very dim and the ceiling lightening fixture captures one's attention as art which surrounds the company banner logo. The business name originates from the popular Japanese competitive cooking TV show 料 理 の 鉄人 Ryōri no Tetsujin ("Ironmen of Cooking") to bring the Japanese cooking spirit to Brooklyn Heights. The sushi bar is openly visible with four men behind the counter rolling, cutting and attentively crafting sushi or Sashimi edible art. After I went to Japan, I cannot see sushi the same. Came in here after walking across the Brooklyn Bridge and were seated right away around 6pm, which was nice since it was a small restaurant. Everyone here was Caucasian and eating rolls, so I already assumed this place was an Americanized Japanese restaurant. They workers are Chinese, but they cater to American taste buds. We ordered the Sashimi Deluxe which came with a salad, nigiris (macakerel, red snapper, scallop, creamy scallop, and salmon), and a Valentines Roll. The salad was had a gingery dressing, which I didn't like so I barely touched it. The sashimi wasn't bad, but very thick. I probably liked the tuna and salmon best. The nigiris were all decent, but the creamy scallop tasted like some sort of potato salad. I think the scallop was the best nigiri out of all of them. The Valentine Roll had a small kick to it, but not bad. I was surprised the waiters asked us twice if we wanted rice with our sashimi, as if we were doing it wrong.. but I guess they are use to offering it to people not familiar with the Japanese cuisine. Probably won't be back because I didn't think it was anything outstanding, but nothing tasted too fishy/oceany which is a plus. They are also fast. I was in the FIDI area and could not find a good sashimi spot in the area so I crossed the Brooklyn Bridge and came to this place! I got their lunch special of sashimi and sushi, which comes with soup and salad and a lot of it! Their carrot ginger dressing had a slight aftertaste from what I have had before...so I did not like that. The sashimi I got was buttery and fresh! especially the albacore and salmon. The sushi roll - again had a little of an aftertaste and I think it was from the crabsticks. Overall I would come back to get sashimi alone! Came here for a date night and we both loved it very much!! I love trying the specialty rolls and I must say this restaurant has the best special chef rolls. We had the monkey roll and hard rock roll and sushi and sashimi platter and it was delicious the sushi was extremely fresh and my favorite was the hard rock roll which is wrapped in a rice pancake I recommend it to everyone we also had plum wine and it wasn't overly sweet which I recommend as well. Staff is super attentive and very friendly the restaurant itself is nicely decorated and its located in a very nice neighborhood. Also, brooklyn bridge park is nearby! I wish I still had jury duty so I can go to Iron Chef House for lunch again! I had the 3 roll lunch special, $11, at Iron Chef House. This 3 roll lunch special is served with the lightest and yummiest miso soup I ever had and with a nice sized side salad too. I picked the salmon skin roll, spicy tuna roll and the eel avocado roll. The salmon skin roll was the best salmon skin roll I ever had. Most of the time I don't like to order the salmon skin roll because it's too soggy and not crisp enough. The salmon skin was freshly crisped up at Iron Chef House. It was the most memorable lunch I had near the Brooklyn Federal Courthouse. It's actually diagonally across the 2,3 subway train station on Clark Street. Now I have to figure out if I can take a train to Clark Street, get back in time during my one hour lunch. I wish I lived in Brooklyn just for this place! Its a little sushi house but with great food. To start off, had some sort of Toro salad, tuna tataki, tempura, and some sort of black cod fin dish. The toro is just yumm and melt in your mouth. It had a great sauce on it too that wasn't too heavy and still allowed you to taste the amazing toro. The tempura came with 2 shrimps, onion, broccoli, and sweet potato. I find that some places either have too thick of a batter or too flimsy where its falling off the food. Here had that perfect balance of super crunchiness but not overpowering. The fin dish i must say was my FAVORITE. If you are not getting it, you are missing out. Do not order their sushi lunch combos for delivery. Sometimes it is totally fine/ average (never great) but other-times you will be getting the fishiest, smelliest rolls imaginable. The salmon roll was disgusting. The fish was way past its prime and the rice was off as well. I've had fresher smelling salmon at corner markets/ supermarkets that sell pre-made rolls. Its odd because their other items are delicious (Yaki and curry udons are to die for). Sushi chefs: please pay attention to the fish you use for the simple non-special rolls (Tuna, salmon, eel etc.) Sometimes you are using fish that should clearly not be used anymore based on texture, color and smell. read more

This popular neighborhood sushi joint will definitely become a staple in my dining pattern. I do recommend making a reservation as the place fills up quickly especially during prime times. You really can't beat this fresh fish in Brooklyn Heights though. This was great! I came here with two of my coworkers for the lunch specials. It was late and I was REALLY hungry, so I got the sashimi +sushi plate with an extra eel roll, with brown rice. So, I order from Iron Chef House (via GrubHub) probably once per week (not kidding). This alone should communicate how solid and consistent they are. The reason I've stuck with them is for two reasons: First, their maguro is always on-point. It's the smooth, lovely texture you want, the vibrant pink-red color, and lovely fresh flavor. Second, they do spicy-tuna rolls the way I like. It's not that smooth, almost tuna-salad texture. It's more of a mix of tiny chunks of tuna in a nice spicy mayo-like mixture. Yum. The people who deliver for them are always very kind, as well. I've come to recognize one of them and he greets me very positively whenever I answer. The reason I don't go for a full 5-star review is that there have been times were my order showed up much later than expected. When I called one time to just get an update on my order, the person on the other end made me feel like it was my fault for ordering at peak dinner time (and told me to either order at a different time or call in my order rather than use the internet). I've never left a sushi restaurant with a fishy taste in my mouth and the worse part was that my husband also felt the same way. The food itself wasn't bad. We had the spicy appetizer and the Monkey Roll along with the Three Style sushi with spicy tuna roll. Aside from the spicy tuna roll which was definitely fishy, the rest was tasty. Far cry from the best I've ever hard or even delicious, but sufficient to satisfy our sushi craving if not for the fact that we should NEVER EVER EVER leave a sushi restaurant with a fishy taste in my mouth. We were both so horrified that we feared that we had to run across the street to buy a pack of gum to get rid of the flavor and it took a while! One of my best friends recommended this restaurant to my boyfriend & I about a month ago but sadly, I was sick for a while and didn't start feeling better til two weeks ago, so we finally gave it a try today. The restaurant is somewhat small but I did feel warm and welcomed upon entrance to the restaurant. It's spacious, warm, and has a very modern Asian vibe and look to it. Even the bathroom is very nice! The service was top-notch, my boyfriend & my dish was quite big so since the table next to us was empty, our waitress helped push the table closer to us so we have a little room for our dishes and food,how nice of them! For appetizer, we got a BBQ Squid - a rather simple dish but overall, pretty good and tasty. Lunch, My boyfriend got a Chicken Noodle Bowl and it was a pretty big bowl of noodle soup with eggplant, udon noodles, chicken and other vegetables, very tasty and light! I loved it.
