New place next to iron poke!!! Got busy pretty quickly as soon as it opened and it took a bit to get our food, but understandable. Very spacious eating area..almost seems wasted. I think they could squeeze in more tables for sure. As for the food, we got various ramen and rice bowls. At the end, the people who ordered the rice bowls liked it, and the people who ordered ramen were on the fence. Personally ordered a chashu don and tried my friends spicy pork ramen. Thought noodles tasted like the package kind you can make yourself at home... soup base was great though! I loved my rice bowl, but I think there was too much rice for the amount of meat I got. Would have appreciated a few more slices of the chashu pork. Lastly, we got boba and iced tea. The boba came in a very cute glass bottle, points for presentation. The iced tea was pretty acceptable. Price-wise it's slightly pricey. It would be nice if they had student discounts for stony brook students. Came here for dinner one night. The food came quick but there isn't much seating. We got the black milk tea and the pineapple passion fruit tea. Both were very good. We got the kara-age chicken and it was really good. Hubby got the gyodon and he liked it. We also ordered the iron classic tonkotsu ramen. Everything inside was good however the soup was just average. We definitely prefer the soup base at slurp. I'm giving a four-star rating because the ramen was really good. Noodles were the perfect al dente, hint of chew, nice flavor. The soup and the condiments were very nice. Loved the spiced egg as an addition! My only complaint is I think this place is WAY overpriced. I can get a quart of shrimp and broccoli for half the price with more shrimp and a vegetable. I realize that there is skill involved here, but $16 for a seafood ramen? I added the egg and cabbage so I'd have some form of vegetable in my meal. I got 3 small shrimps, a few slices of "fish-cake" which I didn't love, and 2 pieces of Kani (the fake crabmeat). Essentially $16 for a bowl of noodles and broth. We enjoyed the food but unless they bring their prices down, I can't imagine going back. Their sister-restaurant "Iron Poke" is just as good, but you get a generous portion of protein for the same price! I think with the large student population they will need to rethink their pricing to stay in business. read more

Five stars for Rose Milk boba + unique tea menu. The food is very similar to Slurp Ramen in Port Jefferson. Iron Ramen delivers a lower grade of quality and flavor compared to Slurp, and the comparison is inevitable.. not a bad thing necessarily.. just know that Slurp is OG Japanese and this is more fast food. Overall yummy and had a positive experience in great company. Consumed the Katsu Don rice bowl which hit the spot but lacked traditional rich curry flavors. YUM. Slurp was the first ramen spot i got addicted to on the Island and this is just as amazing. Highly recommend the Iron Tonkutsu Ramen, broth is creamy and flavorful. The bubble tea is amazing too, always get a berry green tea and there's pulp in it from the fruit which I loveee! Not artificial and overly sweet. The bubbles tea is pretty expensive especially if you get a large, like $7-$8 but it's really good so unfortunately I splurge every now and then. I'll give this place a a solid 3.5 stars. For my ramen fix, the standard in the area is definitely SLURP in Port Jefferson, so I, like another reviewer, used that as the measuring stick. I'm very happy that this place opened, as it's a bit closer to me than Slurp, so I had high hopes. I ordered the traditional Spicy Ramen, and I went crazy and added pork belly. That, with a bottle of water came to around twenty bucks....that's darn pricey. Before I get to the food, the space is gigantic. They could easily fit more tables in there. I was alone, so I sat at one of the stools by the window. It did take a solid 10-15 minutes after I ordered for my ramen to come out of the kitchen. I kept saying in my head, "you can't rush greatness," so I stayed patient. When the ramen finally came out, I will say it looked beautiful. The presentation was definitely on point and it was certainly an inviting looking dish. While I asked for spicy, the only thing spicy about it was the ground pork, but no worry, i added a bit more spice and gave it more kick that it needed. Comparing it to the spicy ramen I've gotten at Slurp, I would say Iron Ramen's version is definitely second. There is a noticeable difference in the quality and taste. This is not to say that the Iron Ramen version is not good, because it is, but some other poster nailed it perfectly....this Ramen has more a fast food feel to it...again, not necessarily a bad thing, but just know what you're getting into. I did not try any of the drinks, but I will say it looked like they had a variety of teas available and certainly other diners were enjoying them. Also, I went at lunch time on a Sunday, and the place was doing great business, so the word is getting out. For me however, my experience once again merited a solid 3.5, and I hope that this place just gets better and better given it's location. read more

We ordered the Pork Gyoza, and two spicy chicken ramen bowls. The gyoza was pretty good - I think it's hard to mess up Gyoza, so what we Iron Ramen provided was up to par with expectations. The Ramen - very hearty with the meat, broth and veggies; while I do wish there were some more ramen in my bowl - I will still say we were full for a few hours with the portion we ate. The environment & location - great business location, as it is not too far from Stony Brook University. Assuming because of this, the establishment plays some of the latest/more current tunes. Me and my boyfriend have been coming here for awhile and I wasn't too Into it but after awhile I started to like it. Well today I was out with my family and I suggested that we should go here and I was boasting about how good it was so they finally agreed. When we got to the place my brother wanted just noodles and broth and the staff said in the most condescending way possible... "Just noodles and broth?" then turned to my dad and chuckled to himself. We got out food and my mom just wanted noodles and chicken but the guy gave my mom an agg anyways which was fine since I like eating the eggs. Well I took a bite of the egg and it was very dense and chewy and it just didn't taste right and the egg was cold and the yolk wasn't very soft either. When I looked at it the egg was a lot darker than usual snd not just from the sauce that they put it in but because it had gone bad. The yolk was always a strange color snd it looked almost dried up. Later I started feeling very sick and my face was getting flushed. I never thought to look at the egg because I have never been given a bad egg before. Well I guess I won't have to worry about checking my eggs again because I won't be coming back. I also had the nerve to say that iron ramen was better than Slurp. Well Slurp has never disappointed me like Iron Ramen has. I have never been so upset about a restaurant in my life that I downloaded this app just to write this review. This place used to be so good. It has went downhill bad! I guess with the pandemic they lost money so decided to skimp on ingredients, But increase their prices. They gave me a tiny slice (not half) of a hard boiled egg and instead of their normal slices of chashu they gave what looked like dried out deli meat. I appreciate that they have a veggie option, but most of the veggies in the bowl were raw and not that enjoyable to eat. I really wasn't expecting raw veggies on top of a cooked soup. I think it would be better if the veggies were at least slightly roasted or sautéed before going in the bowl. The broth had a pretty good flavor though but I wish I got the spicy one with a little more flavor, the noodles were a good consistency. The lavender iced tea was good, I love the lavender flavor it had was distinct, something I never had before. A little sweet for me but it comes with ice so I just let it melt for a little bit. I'm also a little put off by all the single use plastic this place has, the serve you (to stay) with plastic bowls and plastic ramen spoon. I've been to a lot of ramen places in NY so far, and this one I must say is anchored at the bottom of my list. I'd categorize this place as the fast-food place for ramen. Even if you're staying, your ramen comes in a plastic bowl with a tiny plastic(?) spoon; which, in this day and age of plastic-consciousness, is honestly unacceptable. The ramen itself is also just not good. I got two different types on two separate occasions--the miso tonkotsu and the spicy miso with the ground beef. The tonkostu was only moderately better than the ground beef. The ground beef ramen is just so bad; it literally tastes like they just threw taco meat in ramen and called it a day. Even the noodles are bad--I'm almost convinced they use spaghetti noodles and call it "ramen". For all of this mediocre, the price tag just doesn't match the product. They charge $12; the absolute best ramen I've ever had was $12 in NYC (Hide-Chan if you're curious). I've even had BOMB ramen in Vegas (I know, it's not NY) for $8 a bowl and you get way more. Overall, just super unsatisfied. I hope people who've never had ramen before and have this for their first time don't think that this is what ramen is like. Lol. read more

This was our first time coming here since it recently opened and it's delicious! We had the Gyodon rice bowl, Tonkatsu Miso Ramen, two kids noodle soup bowls, Kakuni bun, and crispy calamari stick. Everything was delicious. They provide side sauces like eel sauce, spicy mayo, hot chili sauce, sriracha, etc... in an area off to the right to where you order if you want to doctor up your dish, which we did. The flavors are great on their own but sometimes you want to add little heat. It was pretty busy when we went around 8 on a Friday. Luckily, a 4 top just got up from their table so we could sit. Just because it may look like ramen but if the content is wrong then you can't call it a ramen! the menu looks Japanese, but it definitely is NOT. It tastes more like instant noodles and very salty miso soup put together. The pork is dry and tasteless, the vegs are raw. I am ashamed for them to think this is good enough to serve. I got the Kara-Age Don and a Mango Tea Smoothie and they were both very good. The portions were big however one of my complaints was how little sauce they gave and how small the smoothie was for almost 5 dollars.
