The service was ok only because she seemed a little annoyed like we were bothering her when she was taking our order. Called and reported and was told that they spoke Spanish. I replied in Spanish and was told it wasn't his responsibility. This place was forever bookmarked on my places to try. Iron skillet itself was located in a mini casino attached to a motel rest stop for truckers. The layout of the Alamo reminded me of my childhood road trips with my family, except this place had the fancy showers and laundromat. Iron skillet itself had such a cozy feel to it and our waitress was super nice, she had such a homey feeling to her. I ordered the country fried steak with a side of pancakes, the BF ordered a hamburger. The food came out on a pretty cool looking skillet and the food was hot. Everything we ordered was good, no complaints. The country fried steak was crispy, well seasoned, and the gravy was not at all plain. The hamburger was cooked as we requested (medium) and it was well put together. Overall we were happy with this place and will be back for some good, simple, cheap eats. read more

This is inside the Alamo Casino with plenty of parking. Breakfast portions are on the larger size and the food comes out on "iron" skillets. I would HATE to he the person doing the dishes! Seated easily and got my OJ and water quickly. I did not wait for long for my order to get to my table. My only issue is the fact the skillets used were not heated and the food got cold quickly. Pancakes were kind of cold when I got to it. Be aware of that if you are trying to enjoy the food. It looks like they used to have a buffet service but not any longer. read more

5 AM is too early... But I really needed to have some food. Decided to go with the cowboy steak and eggs. Described as hand cut Sirloin. That sign out front said to seat ourselves. We sat down and waited for about 10 minutes. Finally I sent my daughter to look for someone. I know it's 4:45 AM and they're probably not used to people coming in. Once we found a server, she was personable enough. It took a fairly long time to get our food. It is kind of surprising as we were the only customers for about 15 minutes. The server came by and asked us how things were going, and I told her it would be really nice if we could actually get our food. About five minutes later, the waitress came out with some food and I was quite happy. She passed our table and brought bacon and eggs to the table behind us... he came in at least 15 minutes later than us . The waitress apologized and said 'look, I can see your food in the window' she walked away and the steak sat in the window for 5 more minutes. We saw her bring another person their breakfast. I was still optimistic. Unfortunately as you can see in the picture they sort of forgot the eggs! Then also view the steak, we ordered medium rare, and as you can see it is well done. No pink whatsoever. Then finally the pancake was a bit burned. The only thing that made this a 2 star instead of 1 star was the head chef came out and gave my daughter a whole pumpkin pie for her birthday. Could have been much better, considering there was 1 sweet lady doing 3 jobs at once - hostess, cashier and waitress. She was running her butt off. The food was only ok. Hubby's burger was run of the mill and nothing to write home about. My fish & chips were pretty disappointing with only 1 thin fish fillet. The fries were all cooled off from the wait time in the window. We kind of expected better, especially for the price. First, the facilities were spotlessly clean & the staff very friendly. We ordered a hamburger & club sandwich.. After about 10 minutes, other servers & staff started asking our server if the burger sitting under the heat lamp was hers. Twice she said yes, it's waiting for a club sandwich. Another 10 minutes go bye with no offers for a refill on our iced teas .. at the 25 minute mark, here comes our food. The club was ordered with tomato on the side and any cheese except swiss. THERE WAS NO OFFER TO MAKE IT RIGHT. . .the server just laughed it off. It is not necessary to describe the condition of the $15 hamburger after it's 20+ minutes under a heatlamp. We've been seeing signs and ads for the Iron Skillet for weeks and finally decided to swing by and see what it was all about. Was this your typical Casino Buffet/truck stop fare - or was this something better!? We got there too late for lunch and too early for dinner - so we ordered off the menu. I was dying for fried chicken, so went with the Chicken Fried Chicken. It was a giant piece of flattened chicken breast and it was AMAZING! I also enjoyed a trip to the salad bar and my hunger was sated for about 24 hours. DH enjoyed the pork chop and enjoyed it also. I look forward to hitting the buffet next time. read more

Good food, great service, we really like to eat here. We usually eat here 2-3 times a week. The prices are good and the food is better than most "high dollar" restaurants. This is a longtime truckers restaurant...part of the Alamo Truck Stop/Casino/Super 8 hotel on Greg St. But since this total restaurant overhaul, its the most upscale truck driver eatery I've ever seen...definitely the classiest 24 hour restaurant in town. Great decor, an awesome salad bar (my reason for coming in) that is crunchy fresh at 3 in the afternoon. $8.95 for soup (2 kinds) and all you can eat salad including picnic concoctions like macaroni & potato, pea salad (favorite)...and have you ever seen a salad bar with....jerky? Sorta got stuck here over the weekend Not such a bad place to do a restart. Nice facility, clean, bar, decent food and friendly people for the most part If it weren't for the above mentioned pluses then it would have been a 1 Star rating based on the restaurant server Omg!! Had dinner here Saturday and Sunday and the older (60 ish ) lady was obnoxious to say the least I have no issue with someone having a good time. Or making the best out of their day but this lady was constantly singing to the point it not only irritated me. But also this around me. One other guest even commented. " never thought someone could destroy a Santana song " Again. I'm normally fine with that sorta stuff but after running all the way across the US I wanted to relax. Not be irritated Ok. As a regular patron of Petro truck stops across the country I have to say this is one of the best Petros there is and of course as truck stops go, anyone who travels knows that Petro travel centers are the best. Now, this Petro does have its failings like alway running out of different items at the bar or off the menu but one that I found odd is that when you order a beer and an appetizer at the bar you have to pay two separate bills and then the poor girl manning the bar has to run to the restaurant to pay for your appetizer, back to the bar to have you sign the charge slip and then back to the restaurant to return the signed slip, odd. I think that if the bartender can order a food item from the bar, she should be able to cash it out there too! I also think it's time for management to do the fix, it would save a lot of time and running you'd think. read more

I want some breakfast. It's now 9:20AM and I'm hungry for some eggs. So off to the Iron Skillet I go. Ewww (in a good way) buffet. Real slabs of bacon (not thin slice, but slabs) with biscuits, gravy, eggs, breakfast burritos, french toast, salad bar, etc. And then I'm back for seconds. Love the ever flowing coffee. It's always good to hear laughter, the service folks having a good time and the greeting of people by their first names. Makes for a much friendly experience and overall, it's a very positive atmosphere. The waitress, Carmen, was great. She stopped by to check how things were going and always came by happy. As I eavesdrop, I hear the staff checking on everyone, making sure it's okay. This is what service is about, being mindful of the needs of your customers. PS. I am a regular at this particular Iron Skillet located in the Alamo Petro in Sparks, NV . I recently visited and ordered the grilled chicken and sausage dinner item. The waiter brought an undercooked steamed chicken breast I immediately told the waiter that it was bad and he went back and talked to the cook. The Waiter came back and said Carlos the cook was going to make another. I waited 45 minutes and the waiter returned saying this piece of chicken was grilled and but he gave me the same crap as before a steamed chicken breast. I was so unhappy I just paid my tab and left.
