Sometimes it can be difficult to find someone who truly takes pride in what they do and have the additional ability to care extensively about whom is in front of them; Dr. Dudow is most definitely that person! Dr. Dudow's exam was the most thorough that I have had in YEARS and he was genuinely kind, compassionate AND funny, to boot! It was truly a breath of fresh air to come across someone who expresses that much passion about their craft whilst also being equally concerned about the person who was on the receiving end of it. His assistant, Susan, was also very kind and understanding. Of course, one can go to an optometrist's office that is super cool and hip BUT will you receive the same type of care and attention or will they just try and pacify you in order to get as much money out of you as possible with the least amount of effort? If you're looking for all glam and no substance, by all means, please bypass this establishment BUT if you're looking for an optometrist who treats his craft and his patients with the utmost amount of responsibility and respect, please give Dr. Dudow a go; I have a feeling that you will not be disappointed. read more

I am not happy leaving this review because the lady at the office is very nice. However, Dr Dudow put me through a months-long ordeal of pair after pair of progressives I could simply not see with. His explanations were not very clear or reassuring. Eventually, I thought well this must be as good as it's gonna get and accepted that progressives are just a pain and that I have very bad eyes. Now, however, I am in the care of Eyedeal Care in Van Nuys and - what a difference! I can read without headache, work on the computer without titlting my head in painful ways, drive without trouble and I am all around less tired! My quality of life has improved greatly! To boot Doctor Dudow angled my favorite frame (that I brought in from a previous optometry) in a brutal way (which supposedly should make me see better) - but it ruined the frame! He bent it so badly there is a whole corner of the temple missing now. Sad to say I cannot recommend this Doctor. It was expensive, I couldn't see well and my frame is ruined. read more

My insurance covers everything! This office charged me $25 to just order the lenses! Which is covered by my insurance but "they charge a process fee to take order"!!!! They also take 3-4 weeks to give glasses. The doctor insists on exams even when I come with a prescription. They charge for every little thing and ridiculous prices which other locations will do for free. Go elsewhere! Their hours are ridiculous yo boot! Who only opens their office for 4 hours a day???? I went to an upscale location that took my insurance and didnt charge a penny plus my daughters glasses will be ready in a week!!! read more

I have had glasses since about 5th grade or so, and contacts for almost as long, so needless to say, I have gone through quite a few eye exams and been to my old eye doctor's office numerous times (I'm 26 now). After I moved, I decided on this place for an eye exam so I could get new contacts since I had run out of my old ones. The exam was unfamiliar to me, and multiple times when I was asked to read the letters and couldn't make out some of them, Dr. Dudow would get frustrated with me and kept telling me to just guess. He also kept product pushing, which I absolutely detest. From the start, I had said that I was very happy with my old contact brand and even though I knew my eyesight had probably changed, I still wanted the same brand because they were very comfortable for me. After the exam, however, he recommended I get some very expensive contacts that I did not want because they were too expensive and also, as I said, I had wanted my brand that I had been using. He explained that if I used my old brand, I would not be able to see perfectly (20/20 I suppose) because my astigmatism was bad. I told him multiple times I did not care if my vision was perfect, I'm not like an airline pilot, or lifeguard, or have some other job where I need to see 20/20, I basically only need to see well enough to drive and... that's it. At first I refused the expensive contacts politely, but by the 4th or 5th time I was saying outright "No, thank you," and still had to end up getting a different brand than what I wanted because he would not sell me my old brand. It has been months now, and I HATE the contacts I bought from him. Thank god I used most of them up so that I could move on to another brand. I was not even able to go through all of them because I could not stand them and finally I gave up and decided to go get new contacts (at a different doctor of course). Wasteful, I know, but I could not stand them any longer. They did not stay in one place and constantly moved around when I blinked no matter how lubricated my eyes were. They did not even help my astigmatism at all so they were dangerous also (for driving, especially at night). They scratched my eyes and made them red so I could not even wear them for as long as I normally wore my old contacts. This was the most unpleasant and stressful eye doctor experience for me ever. I have since gone to that new doctor, who was nice enough to prescribe me the contact brand that I had originally been using and wanted and what do you know, my eyes have gotten SO much better. After only the first week my eyes looked so much better and were not even red anymore. After the first day even I could already tell the difference in comfort and fit. I can SEE now. My astigmatism does not even affect me with these contacts and I can see things that are far away fine now. I don't know what he was talking about or what he was thinking. I am back to loving my contacts. Hopefully in the future he will listen to his patients. read more

Great eye doctor but a stupid business man. I went to him for years and then he charged me $5.00 for a screw for my eyeglasses.

I am so happy I came to this place. I brought my kids here to get their eyes examined, then dr Dudow, thoroughly examines them through each test and explains it as he goes, an appointment here does not feel like an appointment he defenitely takes his time for you. When its time to get your glasses, your glasses arrive in a week and a half! Thats fast, not only that when you come in the Dr wants to be there to perfectly fit those glasses in to my kids as it was a genuine piece of art. Dr is also friendly, I love this place I wish all Doctors were this way, we would have healthier people. read more

Dr. Dudow is an angel sent from heaven! I was born with a lazy eye and poor vision. Since childhood I have hated eye doctors because they were always doing tests and made me wear a patch for 3 years. Those three years happen to also be elementary school age. I'm sure you can imagine that starting school at such a young age and having to wear a patch was no picnic! Once I became an adult my eye Dr. visits became farther and fewer between. The last time I went and got glasses was about 10 years ago. I went to one of those big name places in the mall that decided to ignore my one bad eye and only make my glasses to treat the "better" eye and wished me luck. They told me that my right eye was to far gone to even waist time on. Real heart felt kind of stuff to make you lose hope and a bit of a punch to the gut to boot. Anyway, the glasses were ok but they had a very minimum prescription and only helped some of the time. By this time I had already accepted my fate of not ever being able to see very well. So the other day I broke those glasses and my husband insisted it was time to get new ones. Knowing that I have a huge fear of eye doctors he joined me to be my appointed hand holder for this appointment which now goes down in history as "The First Day of Sight"! Dr. Dudow gave me sight for the first time in my life!!! He ran all kinds of tests, He was patient and kind, He told me everything he was doing step by step and kept me very calm. Once he was fairly sure of the kind of prescription I needed, he put some little lenses in this weird contraption that looked like glasses that belong on a 1970's robot and placed them on my face. I was amazed! I could SEE! I could see EVERYTHING! Here's the real miracle, Dr. Dudow handed me a piece of paper and asked me to read the smallest section that I was comfortable reading. I went straight to the bottom of the page and read the very smallest print with no problem! I handed the paper to my husband, who reads everything for me because I usually cant see the print and the print was so small that he couldn't read it! I took off the contraption and looked at what I had just read and it just looked like faint blurry lines. I almost cried! What made that moment even better is that Dr. Dudow celebrated with me. Just the fact that I was so happy in that moment made him remember why he truly loves his job and said as much! He really made me feel like he wasn't out to just make money but rather cared about me and took his time to make sure I would be able to see. That meant everything to me! Dr. Dudow will always hold a special place in my heart because of the gift he has given me! THANK YOU, Dr. Dudow! I haven't gotten the glasses yet because it takes a week or so to make them. I really just wanted to leave a couple words that turned into a short novel lol to share my experience of the warmth I received when I made my visit to see Dr. Dudow. I came in with my insurance and tried to charge me extra for "training to put in contacts" which is already covered by my insurance. It seems he gets away with this often with people who don't know better. I questioned him and really got no clear answer. His secretary stared at him when he gave his answers. She seemed to be confused with him as was I. She said that things did not add up in the bill.I took note.He seems unethical applying extra charges and could not answer my questions. I am reporting him to the BBB and my insurance, just in case he is being a criminal. I paid my co-pay which is my obligation. As a consumer I will not pay for what has not been made clear to me in advance. If you go with this guy make sure he spells it all out before hand or look out for the bill. read more

Dr. Dudow became our family Optometrist. My boys were young back then. Time is too fast, now my boys are adults. Dr Dudow is still our Optometrist. I wanted to make sure that every time we change our insurance, his name is there. He is very thorough and detailed. He explains everything what's going on regarding our vision. Last year, we have a different insurance, but my new prescription is the same as what Dr. Dudow did. This year, I came back to him for an eye exam and told me that my prescription is almost still the same. In fact, I did read line no. 14. It was an improvement on my part. I was also amazed, when he did a very detailed exam on my husband's vision. We felt being taken cared of. He took his time and we never felt being rushed. Living in this area of Sun Valley for 19 years hes the closet private eye doctor around. I have to say reading one of these reviews I have to agree he is stupid business man. We all know that contacts are not covered by Insurances so its cash all the way. Kaiser member for many years and they have the same benefit contacts arent covered. So Dr. Dudow been caring and supplying contacts for my son about almost a year and months. So recent I paid a good amount of money for exam and contacts and oder three month supply. So I called the office to put in a new order and the office manager/biller/etc. Susy she called me back and told me my son was do for a eye exam and due for a pair of glasses, I had explain for the million time that we have private insurance and he was not do for his annual exam, so she told me that unless my son had proof of eye exam and new glasses that they are refusing my sons order of contacts but when I started with them a year ago they never have ask me for any such thing and all off the sudden? Ok something wrong with this picture?. So my thought was this man is taking advantage of my situation Im paying cash for contacts he wants to force us to pay out more money. Hes doesn't care about my son, Dr. Dudow just trying to get more money out us and it ant going to happen! No more abuse. Hes thinks he can con me for more $$ not happening. And by the way hes supplies contacts that have been use to other patients he made my son give a pair back while we where waiting for our last order to come or he was going to charge us or take a pair out when the order comes in. He will take a good amount of time to give you the best examination of the condition of your eyes and is very patient in explaining what this means to you. Worst eye exam experience of my life. I have been wearing glasses since I was eleven and contact lenses since high school. This was the first time that I had to go in twice for just the exam, then a third time for the contact lens fitting. He did not advise me in advance that my exam would require some drops to numb my eyes, I thus had to wait in my car for an hour for them to wear off so that I could safely drive home. He was insistent that I get glasses instead of contacts because my insurance plan was more "generous" for glasses. I had to insist on contacts. Once he agreed he pushed a particular contact lens brand on me, for two-week lenses. I explained to him that I preferred monthly ones because two-week ones tend to tear, he assured me that this would not happen. But it did, and when I tried to order more from 1800 Contacts, he did not want to give me my current prescription unless I went in for another exam. I had to get my company's benefits department involved to get it. Don't go to this doctor unless you are extremely patient and/or have a lot of time to waste. read more
