You have read the previous reviews and nearly everyone states they have to wait for 1-2 hours for a table. Let me state that in no uncertain terms would I ever wait for 2 hours to be seated at any restaurant. But we had invited two family members to join us for dinner so we were committed. The evening was beautiful, the setting was gorgeous and we spent about a half hour looking around the grounds and the building. As it turned out, we hadn't talked for a while and after about an hour and a half and a few drinks, we were called for a table. Some brandy Old Fashions were ordered, we did have a bottle of zinfandel with our dinner and ordered appetizers. My Sunset shrimp cocktail was wonderful. Two others had escargots which were well presented and very good. My wife and I decided to share the Wisconsin Duck. The other orders were the Shrimp de Jonghe and the Filet & Butterflied Prawns. Of course we ordered side dishes of mushrooms and au gratin potatoes. Our food was well prepared, we were never rushed, and our server was very attentive. If I were ever to go back, I would show up when they open at 4:00 in the afternoon and be done with dinner at 5:30. The food is good, the setting is very interesting but waiting is a non-starter for me. A word of advice for newbies! If you not willing to enjoy the scene, relax and wait (can be 2 to 3 hours) on weekends if you get there late (5 pm'ish), then don't bother. Go somewhere else. If you are looking for an experience, willing to grab a drink and maybe appetizers, and relax playing cards or enjoying the music and devour some amazing food after the wait is over, at a very iconic supper club, then don't wait, GO! We have been here twice in the last month and would do it over and over again. Nothing beats the experience. You have to be willing to spend the time and enjoy the experience. I was a fan of Ishnala and went there for a quite a few years consecutively. I found the service and quality of the food slipped as the years went on and the place gained in popularity. The last visit was disappointing in a couple of ways. When we arrived we found there was a 2 1/2 hour wait for a table. We arrived at 7 p.m. and were not seated until 9:30. By then they were out of prime rib the only thing on the menu that my fellow guest wanted. A 2 1/2 hour wait for a table table to is outrageous. Any establishment that really cared about its customers would come up with a better system for seating people and keeping up with demands for tables. Food and service aside the most disappointing part of doing business with Ishnala is apparently their owner's disgusting political stance on America's Social Safety Net. Attached is a picture of a plaque that is displayed under a wood carving of an eagle on Ishnala's grouds. This "American Creed" is an obvious insult to anyone who's ever had to rely on government assistance. If you have ever collected unemployment or disability assistance, Social Security or Medicare in your life, I don't know how you wouldn't be offended. What makes it worse this bastardized "American Creed" is popular among Right Wing Zealots and American White Nationalists. I refuse to support a business owned by such awful people. read more

Come for the drinks and good apps and great service, but keep your distance from the security guard,,,,,, she's vicious (and rude). We found a classic spot on the beach, and with our terror of a 14.2# fluffy white dog. Friendly waitress took our drink and app orders; perfect Wisconsin summer breeze. Ten minutes later Ms Guard-dog came by and barked at us to leave immediately, no dogs allowed!!! So,,,,,, we're waiting for our order, and being asked to leave at the same time. Didn't give us any reasonable options,,,,,,, so our order arrives, and Ms guard-dog came back growling,,,, rather than cause a scene, we walked down the path and found a sappy tree to sit and enjoy drinks and apps. I get it, no dogs allowed, but kindness doesn't cost anything, especially when we're paying a premium to enjoy your restaurant. We had a party of four on Labor Day weekend. We checked in at 3:30 and were told 2.5 hours. We waited 3.25 hours. It was nice to walk around with a drink and have apps but it was hot and there was no room to wait at an inside bar. Once we made it to our table, we felt very rushed. The server ran over when my husband was refilling his own water and chastised him for doing it. As soon as you finished a dish, they were ready to take your plate and usher you on. The prime rib was fine, the old fashioned was very good, and the views were very nice. I would come back if the wait was not so long or they took reservations. Wow, wow, wow! The Sinatra tunes played over outdoor speakers & ample outdoor seating options including chairs, benches and tables on the beach facing the lake is reason enough to stop here. Not to mention the best Old Fashion I have ever had (Brandy. Sweet). We wanted to have dinner here. We arrived on a Tuesday at 4:30 pm and were promptly told the wait would be 1.5 hours! They do not take reservations and I believe they open at 3:30pm with dinner starting at 4pm. We were provided with a restaurant pager (one of those things that vibrates an lights up when your table is ready) and told we could go to any of the bars for drink and explore the property/gift shop. The place was packed. Patrons were a bit dressed up so something to note if you come here and don't want to feel out of place. Think nice summer dress for her and khaki shorts with a polo for him. The vibe is relaxed with stunning views of Lake Mirror. We loved every second sipping our drinks on the beach but just couldn't wait the full 1.5 for dinner so sadly, we had to leave without trying the food. This supper club is a Wisconsin classic with excellent ambiance. They have added multiple bars and paths on the property in the last 15 years, good thing, because you'll wait 1.5 to 3 hours to be seated. Because of this, many parties are hammered from drinking Old Fashioneds, but the wait staff is impeccably polite dealing with the enormous volume of guests. The sunset shrimp is fried sweet and sour shrimp with coleslaw and good. The prime rib and butterflied prawns meal was good, not great. The steak seamed like it was sous vide or maybe fried in butter, but had no flame char, which I very much prefer. Yet, it was enormous and tender. The shrimp were not very easy to peel but the tabletop butter melter made them tasty. Sides are all great. Now I finally understand why this place is in high demand! What a treat. Went with my husband and his parents for a night out, and it was amazing. The drive in is gorgeous, especially during the fall, when the leaves are at their peak of color changing. Upon arriving in the parking lot, we were shocked that there were quite a number of people already there, as we got there an hour before they opened. We really shouldn't have been that surprised, however, after hearing the stories from our friends who have been several times and had to wait 3+ hours. The hour and a half wait we had of didn't seem so bad! We also chose to go on the last day they are open for the year, so it made sense. We ponied up to one of the several bars that they have, and grabbed an Old Fashioned - WOW, best one I've ever had for sure! After getting our bearings, we ordered another round, and made our way down to the beach. Despite the chilly fall weather, it was beautiful - the body of water that Ishnala is on is absolutely breathtaking, and the forest surrounding us was cozy. After doing a little bit of exploring, we made our way back up to the main entrance, and the historic canoe that was pulled from the water is very cool. The rich history of the area is apparent, and the atmosphere of the supper club is reminiscent of the 1940s. When our buzzer went off, signaling our table was ready, we were seated in front of a large window. No matter where you end up sitting in the dining room, you will have an incredible view. Our waitress was very friendly, and offered us wine and some cold pack cheese and breadsticks that were very tasty, and definitely a nice touch, as it's a staple in Wisconsin supper clubs. The blue cheese wedge was so delicious, honestly I could've had another helping of that and been content. But on to the main course we went, and the ribeye was fantastic! The baked potato was alright, you could take it or leave it. But the jumbo fried shrimp was the main attraction for me - I wish I could eat those every day! How about a sign that says Lot Full - turn left to overflow lot. Once we finally arrived back, got a beeper. After several Old Fashion drinks, and two hours, we went to discover it would be another 1.5 hours. That is ridiculous and uncalled for - so we left. Now that it's October, the wait time for a table is down from 2-3 hours, to a little over 1. Parking was not an issue for us. We had a good amount of time to walk the grounds and enjoy 2 Old Fashioneds. I agree with other Yelp reviewers that cocktails and appetizers at the bar are more than enough of an experience if you don't want to wait. If you do, our meal was really good. We had the ribeye and lobster tail dinner. The meal starts with homemade cheese spread, which was a fun treat! The salads were fresh, steak & lobster was prepared well, and sides were ok. The standout side was the mushrooms. They were rich and bursting with garlic flavor - outstanding! Our server was kind and fast and organized. No room for appetizers, French onion soup, or dessert. It wasn't the wait staff, they were great. It wasn't the food, it was good. So why only two stars? It was the total chaos and the wait for a table for nearly two hours. This isn't the supper club we remembered. It used to be a quiet and classy experience. That was a while ago. Now there's nothing classy about it. It is an overly-crowded and noisy place. I don't remember the tables of the past, but they couldn't have been the clunky and heavy tables and chairs we experienced. It was like being in a lodge in the Rockies. I used to say that Ishnala was the only nice thing about the chintzy Wisconsin Dells. Now it's just the same as the rest of the area. For the life of me I don't understand why people consider this restaurant and it's counterparts in the Dells anything but a miserable tourist trap. Suggestion: go further north. Went with another couple. It was our first time, their 3rd or 4th. We arrived before they opened and waited in line. The property is beautiful and secluded. When the doors opened we hecked in and made our way to one of the bars to have Old Fashioneds and take in the view from the large windows overlooking Mirror Lake. The bartenders were all very friendly. We were seated at our table with another great view of the lake. Our food order was cheese curds, shrimp cocktail, French onion soup and prime spears. The latter was byfar the best of the four. The soup needed time under the broiler as the cheese was barely melted. After appetizers we had salads and rolls & mini cinnamon rolls. For dinner we had the New York with baked potato prime rib with au gratin potatoes, filet with baked, and filet with fries. The au gratin potatoes were undercooked. The prime rib was over cooked. Overall, the food was just okay and the atmosphere was amazing. We felt rushed by the waitress. There was a gentleman on a second tier of the restaurant looking over the tables on the first tier making notes on a small notepad. Went to ishnala for the first time yesterday. We got their waited in line 10 minutes before they opened the doors. Sat in the bar had a drink wait time 45 minutes we were the first seating for the evening. Their was only two of us and they stuck us in the corner by the front door far away from the main dining room. It was ok and not that bad I guess. Service was excellent and very nice, they have a nice menu something for everyone. I got the Prim Rib and prawns with salad escargot and scallop potatoes. My meal was phenomenal. We had the twin lobster tails, filet & fried shrimp, sweet potato mash, caesar salad, prime rib, breaded duck strips, cheese curds, chicken Oscar. All were surprisingly wonderful. Only downsides: No outdoor seating options. The servers are a little too attentive. They stand right next to your table and watch you. They also tried to take plates that we were still eating from. This place is a full experience of going back in time to the 1920s or 30s. The drive in is a welcome change from all of the hustle of the local entertainment of the dells. We try to stop in when we can and sometime make the extra effort to stay in the area just to come here for dinner. The food is good and there is plenty given per serving. The staff is always nice and interesting to talk to because they are likely to be collage kids working for money in the summer. The last time we had to wait 2.5 hours since it was one of the last days open. We arrived at 4:00. Lots of people just hang around the grounds or at one of the three bars. We have often had to wait but never this long. Still it was an enjoyable time talking to other who were waiting. I had the duck and au gratin. My wife had the scallops and asparagus. At 3:30 they started taking names and handing out beepers. We got an Old Fashioned and sat down by the lake. We were seated at 4:00. The food was unbelievably delicious!! This place is special! Unique and scenic right on mirror lake, ishnala is an experience! Be prepared to wait at least an hour, they don't take reservations and it's always busy. The property is cool to walk around with lots of different bars and views. We loved grabbing an old fashioned or sangria and sitting by the beach. They had live music the night we were there. This is unique even among Wisconsin "Supper Clubs" and it's an all-in or forget-about-it experience. And it is an experience. I can say almost nothing that hasn't been said many times here about this place, so let me just say this: When you order the smaller cut of prime rib, at most places, even some very expensive ones, the weight usually comes out of the layer of super-tender fatty meat on the outer ring. Not here. And I have never eaten a more flawlessly textbook piece of "medium rare" beef of any cut in my life. Done exactly enough to be medium rare and not one tiny bit more.
