Had a delicious and fulfilling meal at Ishoni! We got various cuts of beef, including an Australian wagyu, and all were melt in your mouth delicious. Also got the ishoni rice (pretty big bowl; one could share), the golden kimchi, and a salad. Service was attentive and straightforward.

If you're looking for premium Japanese bbq, this is a great spot to go! They have amazing cuts and the A5 Wagyu is absolutely delicious. I highly recommend getting the Ishoni rice to pair with the rich meats. This was such a lovely experience and is great for a special occasion.

My partner and I came here for restaurant week. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Right when you come in, the decor is very calm, open, and beautiful.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We ordered the $65 Australian Wagyu combo, a mackerel dish, the mushroom medley, and the calpico high cocktail. The meat tasted very fresh and buttery, and the mackerel had a crispy outside and paired very nicely with the wasabi salt seasoning. The mushrooms had a nice assortment of mushrooms (I think shiitake, oyster, & enoki) but the broth was pretty light in flavor and oily to me. I decided to try ishoni yakiniku during seattle restaurant week (srw). Even though they had a special set menu, you could also order food off of their regular menu as well. Since my friends and I like to eat a variety of food, we ordered one set of the srw deal, and other dishes such as the beef combo, mushroom stew, takoyaki, ishoni rice and a fish!! In the end it came out to be ~$45/person which is not a bad deal. I really enjoyed the wagyu and cuts of beef, and thought the free yuzu ice at the end was a perfect dessert. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I liked the clean interior and the staff were super attentive with taking our order and filling waters.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It was such a nice experience if you feel like treating yourself!

On a random day we were really craving some grilled meat and we decided to go here! We were glad we did because it was all amazing! The food was great, very tender and delicious! You also get special cooking from the server if you order the wagyu! Our server cooked our meats to perfection and we loved it! I've now been to this place twice! I loved it so much that I invited my friends to join me to celebrate my bday there! This is Japanese cuisine where you cook your own meats! Their meat selection is great and the flavor is amazing! I think about this place and I immediately feel happy! The only reason for the 4 stars is because both times we have been there, I didn't feel very welcomed by the staff and we were kind of neglected. We constantly had to flag them down or ask a different server for something. I'm pretty sure I will visit again, just because the food is really that good, but I am on the hunt for a place that is just as good, but also makes me feel welcomed!

Everything about this hit the spot, the meat was fresh and high quality, with a variety of cuts. I visited during Seattle Restaurant Week and so cannot recommend the specific set that I ordered (it was a restaurant week exclusive), but their regular menu sets look excellent as well. The grilling experience is over a proper grate instead of the metal pans popular with modern bbq experiences. I found the flavor/taste to be more similar to bbq in Asia (although charcoal grills would put this in another tier altogether). My least favorite part of the meal was not the meat at all, but the takoyaki, which just had a bit too much sauce to eat comfortably.

We went for Seattle restaurant week and didn't end up ordering that set because we didn't like the options very much after looking at the rest of the menu. The service is really nice and really fast here. We got the creamy udon which we all thought was the worst thing we had there by far and I would discourage ordering it, it was creamy and cheesey but weirdly we felt like the noodle didn't have much taste? Hard to explain but how all 3 of us felt. We got 2, one was the Waygu skirt and some other, and the Waygu with bbq sauce was by far better than the other with salt and pepper. We also got pork which was fine. The Takoyaki was pretty good though . Overall everything was good and they even give you a complimentary treat at the end which was sour and light and good

We had a reservation for this place. I would definitely recommend this place for japanese bbq. Their menu is a QR code you scan to see. It was easy to follow. The staff are very friendly and efficient. With waters ready and ordering. At the end of your meal you receive a little refreshment as a complimentary. I would love to comeback and try different things on the menu.

TLDR: Best non-AYCE yakiniku experience I've ever had. Highly recommend the Ishoni Beef Combo (or Flat Meet) and/or their Seafood Combo. - - - - - - I had a strong itch to have yakiniku and was glad I stumbled upon Ishoni Yakiniku while browsing Capitol Hill. I ended up visiting with a friend, and we were welcomed by a nice wooden interior well decorated with Japanese pieces and friendly staff members. We ordered their Creamy Mentaiko Udon with Seafood, Ishoni Beef Combo, Seafood Combo, and Salmon Ochazuke. The Creamy Mentaiko Udon with Seafood was a surprise, since I wasn't expecting this when thinking about yakiniku. Nonethless, it was a very solid dish with clean clams, juicy tomatoes, and creamy pasta. The creaminess with a bit "watery chunky" and a solid 4/5. The Ishoni Beef Combo... now THIS is a good sampler to get. Between all the meats, the best one is the tender flap meat and rib fingers. The other meats were also delicious, but those were the ones that stood out, especially with their garlic butter. We also added on the Seafood Combo which included cuttlefish, shrimp, and scallop. When grilled, the shrimps and scallops were crisp - even more delicious when dipped in their citrus sauce. The cuttlefish was also tasty and best eaten with their darker sauce. The salmon ochazuke was a nice palate cleanser and light carb. Though there was not much salmon, the rice was smooth and went down nicely. Its submergence in green tea made it even softer and smoother - yum! Once we finished, we were also treated to a small cup of yuzu sorbet, an unexpected treat. I'm generally not a fan of sweets, but I ended up finishing the entire cup!

After trying a few times, I finally got a reservation here! The atmosphere is great and it is really spacious for covid precautions. The service was fast and good. We were able to put our order in right away since we were hungry. They also have not raw food for you to eat while you wait for the meats/veggies to cook. My favorite dish is the thick cut beef tongue. Since that is one of their specials, you can only order one of them per table. I would also recommend the wagyu nigiri since they flame up the meat in front of you. The only downside to this place is that it is a little pricey. This place is amazing!!!! We came in without a reservation and they still sat us within a minute. Our dinner came out to be $60 per person and everything was so well priced and prepared, worth the nice meal, service and ambience. Perfect place for a romantic dinner. Ordered the lunch Togo menu for company lunch. Everyone love it. Even the ordinary salad is 1st class salad, way better than the normal teriyaki salad. The best of all is the cheese pork chop rice with curry. Ginger pork is my no. 2. Creamy seafood udon is no.3. The golden kimchi side dish is amazing among all the dishes. Another great grilled meat restaurant in Seattle! This place has Japanese style grilled meat which is a bit different from the KBBQ that's all the craze, in that there aren't pickled veggies and usually I order a little rice bowl on the side. We got the combo meal and I must say, definitely order the soy marinated beef!! Other than wagyu, that was for sure my favorite. read more

Had a great time here! I highly recommend their A5 Wagyu Sandwich (which I think is their specialty) as well as the Beef Finger. We ordered like 3 rounds of it For the sandwich, the waiter comes by to cook it for you which is nice. They only give you one choice of sauce which wasn't optimal, but all in all the meat was good. I would recommend ordering a sample platter of the meat you like the most and then ordering more based on that! read more

Nice spot to check out if you like Japanese bbq. Ordered premium beef tongue, tongue with onion, pork jowl, and wagyu nigiri. We wanted to try the thick cut beef tongue but was sold out prior to our reservation. Great quality and selection of meat. Highly recommend any of the beef tongue options and wagyu is worth a try. Amazing Japanese barbecue bar! It typically gets busy so be sure to make reservations ahead of time! And everyone dining in will need to be 21+. The meat quality is A+. I'd recommend getting the beef combo! There were 5 of us and we ordered 2 combo and 3 additional meat cut and some appetizers. The meat portions are not the biggest, but they are very high quality. Each cut is so thick and juicy, I promise you won't be disappointed. Besides the combo, I'd recommend the thick cut beef tongue, pork belly and short ribs! If you're going for a full on dinner I'd recommend getting the rice dishes on top of the meat. It's a great selection if you're chatting with friends over some beverage and some very delicious bbq meat post-dinner! read more

This is a fantastic Japanese BBQ place. The meat quality is top notch. They're gonna cook the Wagyu stuff for you because, you know, they're expensive. We got the meat platter with many different cuts of beef. The beef tongue was better than some other place that I've tried before. All of the other meat cuts were great. They're all so tender. Honestly nothing to complain about the meat cuts here. The price justifies the quality of the meat. And as always with Japanese BBQ, the exhaust fan for the smoke is all around the grilling pan. So, unlike KBBQ where you're gonna come out smelling like BBQ and have to wash everything from top to bottom, you don't have to worry about the smell after eating from this place. read more

Ishoni finally open on capital hill, store is much bigger than the Bellevue location and is always packed but with social distancing still maintained, make sure to make reservation ahead so you get a table! - Full bar with fantastic cocktails (especially the "HANA") - my favorite is the a5 shabu slice, the bbq dipping sauce with egg yolk makes perfect combo. - great atmosphere, interior is very elegant and comfortable - servers are kind and friendly, always checked up on us to make sure we're doing okay. I was very hyped about this place but came out hungry and disappointed. Their employees were nice but inattentive, it was hard to find someone for help, they never changed my grill plate, forgot my rice, and never came over to fill water. When we need them, we couldnt find anyone to reach like I understand it's a Friday night but still like ??? The food has nothing special plus the sauce has pretty much bland taste. We left hungry and unhappy with the service. The worst thing is we went home, received an email from Yelp saying we didn't come for our reservations and got charged the fine, this restaurant has so much to improve and I hope they do because they have great location and we don't have as many Japanese bbq in Seattle city but there will be no coming back us. read more

I've never had the opportunity to get Japanese barbecue and I was super excited to try this out! My fiancé had offered to take me out to celebrate my new job and so we finally got the opportunity to do so! Onto the review! We got the meat platter and it had beef tongue, beef rib fingers, beef rib, and a cut of wagyu that I can't remember what cut it was. Let me just say, it was heavenly! The meat was all so tender, juicy, and seasoned beautifully! It all just melted as I was biting into it and was so flavorful! The beef rib fingers and beef rib were marinated in their barbecue sauce which tasted similar to a teriyaki sauce and it was so good! The other cuts were seasoned with salt and pepper and all seasoned perfectly! The meat was melt in your mouth tender and juicy, and I couldn't have asked for a better experience for my first time getting Japanese barbecue! We also ordered the yams, grapefruit and lychee beer, and the spicy beef soup. The grapefruit and lychee beers were very tasty but more along the lines of a cider than a beer. The spicy beef soup was tasty and was a nice edition to the meal! There were large chunks of beef in it and the beef was all so tender when eating. The only thing we didn't enjoy was the yams with an anchovy sauce. The yams didn't seem seasoned at all and the sauce didn't really add anything to it and it just came off as blah. Overall, most of the items were great and I definitely would come back again to do it all over again! read more

I recently revisited Ishoni after they opened their Seattle location years ago. I used to be a regular at their Bellevue spot, where they food and experience were consistently excellent. Unfortunately, this visit fell short of expectations. The grill at our table was insufficiently heated, it wasn't even hot enough to cook the meat, causing each round of cooking to take an unreasonably long time, like 10-15 mins +. Everyone in my party, including my 10yo grew impatient as the food took so long to cook, and she became quite hungry. Despite bringing this issue to the attention of the staff and manager, it took multiple conversations before we were offered to switch to a different table. Even one of the staff members mentioned that this problem was a known issue with our table. The new table wasn't much better. It seemed like the grill setup at larger tables might be the issue? Additionally, the Ishoni Rice we ordered was a disappointment. It was something I always get but this time it's nothing like it used to be nor did it resemble what was shown in the picture. We had to ask a staff member about it, and she eventually brought us more toppings. After spending over $300, the meat was chewy and dry as it had been left on the grill for over 15 mins in order to cook. Our party of four came to Ishoni for a friend's birthday on a Thursday night. Every table was full and it was very lively with music playing but not excessively loud. We each got their Flash Deal meal set (disclosure: posting a review entitles you to a discount on the set) as well as a Mentaiko seafood udon (limited 20 servings a day on Tues/Wed/Thurs) and they were both awesome. The set comes with a large variety of meats with beef, pork, and calamari as well as side dishes like rice, salad, and kimchi. The meat was all fresh and well marinated and tasted great. I recommend the udon if you're a fan of mentaiko and it's still available. The servers were really nice and came by multiple times to change our grill grate and fill our waters. They also helped us store a birthday cake in the fridge and gave us plates and a cake slicer to celebrate. The grill itself is somewhat small so it may get cramped at times for four people but that just gave us more time to eat and chat. It's important for any restaurant, particularly one that charges a premium price, to provide exceptional service to its customers. Firstly, the quality of the food provided was not up to your expectations. It's disappointing when you go to a barbecue restaurant and the meat isn't cooked to perfection or isn't of high quality. This is especially frustrating considering that you're paying a premium price for the food. Our experience at Ishoni Yakiniku was not a good one. The combination of mediocre food and poor service left you feeling dissatisfied and disappointed. Overall, the dining experience at this restaurant was quite good, with satisfying food and friendly service. However, I did encounter a small issue: we ordered a bottle of wine, and since we didn't finish it, I asked to take the remaining wine home. According to Washington State law, wine that has been properly re-sealed after dining may be taken away by the customer. Nevertheless, this restaurant has its own policy that does not allow it. I understand that the restaurant may have adopted this policy out of caution, but I'd like to point it out here. Perhaps in the future, the restaurant could consider aligning more closely with state law in this regard, which would provide guests with a more convenient experience. I had the pleasure of dining at Ishoni on Mid-Autumn Festival, and it was an incredible experience. The quality of the meat is outstanding--fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. I recently visited this restaurant and while it was a decent experience, it was not outstanding. The atmosphere of the restaurant was nice. However, given the price I honestly expected better quality of meat. The food itself was good, but not exceptional. Overall, it was a decent experience, but not one I would rush to repeat. If you're looking for a Japanese BBQ, there are probably better options in the area. read more

We tried the set for Seattle dinner week. Loved the Sumibi flavor on the meat. The induction was well done and the store not Smokey at all. The meat quality was good. The marinade could be a little sweeter to be more like Japanese yakiniku. Also personally would prefer no furikake on the rice. Whole point is eating it with the meat but I'll know to ask for that next time. Favorite cut in this set was the kalbi. read more

Overall I think the food is good and for the promotional price it was worth it but the normal price might be too expensive for what we had. The meat was well seasoned and the variety was good. I think the cuttlefish was the standout option. The only really weird thing I noticed was that the set salad that was using Costco salad mix. I came here for a birthday celebration with some buddies, and they are excellent at social distancing. The service was excellent, and our server was delightful. Ishani rice, cucumber salads, kimchees, beef tongues, beef rib fingers, tofu salad, wagyu beef short ribs, miso soups, a5 shabu slice, corns, and a large amount of sake were among the dishes we had. First time here at Seattle location, definitely a big step up from the previous location. Spacious, beautiful decorations. Paid street parking or public parking. Food is a little bit pricy but very good quality. Service is great as well. read more
