Both breakfast and returned for dinner. Great food and staff. The location is great right at the water. Breakfast sandwich on a croissant with scrambled eggs, cheddar, thick bacon. So large I could not finish it. My husband's omelet was also great. Back for dinner and a prime rib sandwich. Oh how wonderful! And don't miss the French fries. This is probably one of my favorite spots in the keys. The coconut shrimp are awesome!!!! My first time back today since they reopened and combined we got, two different salads, kids mac n cheese, and mahi fingers. Also, obviously two orders of coconut shrimp. They even rebuilt the seating area similarly to the old place. Excellent ambiance. Open air dining with a dock right at the edge of the seating area. They also have a small beach now over by the outdoor bar. Bottom line: this place is an absolute must for tourists and locals alike. Get the coconut shrimp. read more

Island Grill was recommended by a few friends as a "must stop" on our way down to Key West. The location was lovely (minus the highway noise), but the food was ...okay? The "original" tuna nachos might (might) be original, but other places have done them better, and a few pieces were still frozen-ish. The avocado caprese was super sad - no salt, no pepper, no basil, no olive oil, no flavor. The red and white sangrias were basically wine with liquor or juice sinkers (as opposed to floaters). The cucumber margarita was fine. The only thing that was legit good was the Cuban sandwich (not the unseasoned sweet potato fries we got with it). The restaurant would benefit a WHOLE lot from some salt and pepper shakers. read more

If I had to choose a "go to" restaurant when traveling between the middle/lower keys and mainland Florida, it would more times than not be Island Grill. Over the years, they made some positive alterations to the building; my favorite change being the covered outdoor eating area at the entrance. I wish I could say the service and food have made some positive changes too but sadly they have remained the same for about a decade. The food and service aren't typically bad, just a bit inconsistent. SERVICE: The servers are almost always upbeat and friendly (although the last visit was scarred by a server in a miserable mood). Most of the time they do a good job servicing the table but small errors are common (easily fixed and not normally ruining the meal). FOOD: They have a few dishes that never disappoint such as the mahi rueben sandwich, graham cracker crusted calamari, spicy tuna roll. Other dishes are quite good too but these dishes get my "time tested seal of approval". Be forewarned, some of the dishes (including my recommendations) can be a bit greasy. AMBIANCE: The whole place just oozes with laid back florida keys charm. Grab a seat facing the open water in the A/C or under the covered patio dining area and watch the boat traffic, or better yet get a better view sitting at the beachfront tables. Overall, the food and service are on par but the with the "sometimes" blah service or errors I just can't give that 4th star... sorry, but still worth recommending. read more

Probably the best Sushi in the Keys. Exceptionally fresh and very well presented. Their signature Tuna taco plate is huge and extremely delicious. Located right on the canal outlet to the ocean at 85 degrees, the cool ocean breezes actually called for a sweatshirt! The beach and seating area and outside bar setting is awesome. The good: The outdoor patio is a dynamite place to sit, relax, eat and drink. Boats were cruising by throughout our meal. We enjoyed the atmosphere, thoroughly. The bad: Food-wise, 3 out of 4 of us were extremely disappointed with our meals. Personally, I ordered the Lobster Roll with a side of coleslaw. Although the portion sizes were on point, the flavors were non-existent. The bread of the Lobster Roll had a few strokes of char, but the bread wasn't buttered. The Lobster was chopped finely and drenched in sauce, ultimately blocking out the flavor of the meat. The coleslaw was the absolute worst I've ever had. Took two bites, and left the rest for the birds. The ugly: Our server was non-attentive. To the point where we had to flag her down continuously. Her tip reflected her poor service. Uglier: The prices are outrageous. Entrees were over $30 - for lunch mind you! And if our sandwiches were any indicator of the flavors they're producing, I'd protect your wallet. I will say that the "Asian-inspired" dishes looked great, but then again the Lobster Roll had nice presentation, but tasted like a shoe. Ugh, this was disappointed and frustrating. If anything, order a few drinks and hang out at the bar, because the deck is legit. read more

10/25 - We stayed at The Postcard Inn and walked from there. There is a sidewalk that end here. It is a safe walk, and a very scenic one. The restaurant is on the water and it is very charming. You can bring your boat here and just step right into the restaurant. It is a little bit hidden right by the bridge, on mile marker 85, but there is a huge sign so you can't miss it. I'm glad we didn't ,I found it through Yelp. We came here for breakfast. I ordered the Mahi Mahi with scrambled eggs, potatoes and rye bread. They serve a nice size portion. I was a bit disappointed with the Mahi, although a great spicy taste, it was flat. It was not fresh. The potatoes were my favorite, nicely seasoned. The eggs were not greasy, cooked perfectly. Service was ok, they did what the job required. The views are amazing here, you see the boats driving by at all times. read more

These two employees should be FIRED. Disrespectful and unprofessional. The worst experience i have ever had at a restaurant. They were using foul language with our party all because I did not have my physical ID with me to drink a pina colada (i shared with them a photo of my ID and did not allow it) which was no problem whatsoever, they took my drink and when we asked for their names they did not want to provide us with their name and proceeded to call the cops. They cops came and looked at my picture of my photo ID and said no worries continue on. The cop himself said "this is ridiculous, you are over 21.. don't worry, if you do not like the service, leave otherwise just continue your meal and try to enjoy the rest of your night." The two managers were trying to fight us because we said we were going to leave a bad review. NEVER COME HERE unless you like bad service. I hope the owner of this restaurant understands he is and will continue losing business because of the type of people running the restaurant. I called the restaurant ahead of time to ask if there was a wait time for a part of 7 and was told there was 0 wait time. When we arrived the host said he never spoke to us and that the number we called was the incorrect number ... we proceeded to call the number and the phone rang infront of him and he was shocked (he clearly lied and did not want to seat us because they were almost closing) he did not want to do his job! Absolutely incredible. RESPONSE TO OWNER: You must have been completely mislead by your manager and your staff as there were absolutely no underage women in our party. I would also love for you to provide a copy of said police report and video evidence that confirms and/or proves that anyone in our party tried to physically assault any of your staff. The police officer simply advised that your establishment can refuse to serve us an alcoholic beverage if a physical ID is not present (none of which i am arguing) but the issue still remains that the lack of unprofessionalism from your staff was completely unwarranted. Additionally, had the police officer observed "UNDER AGE" drinking or an attempt to purchase alcohol, Im sure someone in our party would have been detained. Also for further clarification, the officer NEVER took a statement nor wrote a police report. Please get with your staff and do your job and actually review your surveillance footage (if you have any) rather than just trying to put the blame on others to justify the incompetency of your employees actions. There is a reason your managers gf did not want to provide her name. That within itself speaks volumes. Furthermore, your host informed me over the phone, prior to our arrival that there was a 0 wait time. Upon our arrival, no less than 10 minutes later, he advised the wait was 1 hour. The host claimed to have never spoken to me and that the phone number on google was incorrect but when i proceeded to call the SAME phone number i had previously called, the cell phone rang and he was in utter disbelief.
