The bartending staff at Chaak always treats customers like family, but unfortunately, they close early, so my sister and I would often end up at The Swinging Door afterward. This past Friday night, the bar was not busy, yet Jacqueline, the bartender, repeatedly ignored us. After our first drinks, we tried to order a second round and flagged her down several times, but she showed no interest in helping us. Her behavior came across as dismissive, rude, and completely uncalled for. I had not been back to The Swinging Door in a long time because of a similar experience, but I previously chalked it up to the bar being busy that night. Unfortunately, this visit confirmed that poor customer service continues to be an issue. No one goes to a bar on a Friday night expecting to be ignored or treated poorly by the bartender. Lesson learned. I sincerely hope management retrains its bartending staff and reminds them that being attentive and kind to customers is a basic part of the job.

We were walking around the Irvine shopping center and found this place. Though they don't take reservations, we were able to place our name on a list. We were eager to have a sit-down meal at a restaurant even though it was only out door (California opened up for outdoor dining about a week ago). We were seated promptly by the host close enough to a heater, so even though it was in the mid 50's, it was tolerable. Our server was cool and he was friendly and took care of us as best he could. We ordered chips and salsa, I ordered the fish tacos (Corn tortilla) and my wife ordered the Beach Bow, which was chicken, veggies, brown rice and Teriyaki sauce. We never got our chips and salsa so I had to remind our server to make sure to remove it from the bill (which he did). The fish tacos were really good. The portions was just enough and the fish and spices was exactly what I was craving for. The Beach Bowl was good but as a suggestion, see if you can get the teriyaki sauce on the side because it's on the salty side. Overall a good experience, so my wife and I will be back to try other items on the menu. TIP: Your 1st time check in on Yelp will give you a $5 discount if your bill is over $25. read more

Do not EVER get food to-go here EVER. After a very long day we finally decided on Islands for a take-out meal. We ordered 2 cheeseburgers and a quesadilla. The buns on the cheeseburgers appeared to be about a week old and stale so you can't tell by a photo. But please see my quesadilla that is supposed to come with scallions, green chilies, pico de gallo and sour cream. Literally 6 small bits of scallions and a cold tortilla and cold rubbery cheese. Zero pico de gallo and sour cream. It's now 8:30 at night and I really didn't want to make my poor husband drive all the way back. So I called the manager, so irritated at this point, and all he did was give me a very lackluster sorry and offer to take the quesadilla of my bill! Really? I really am not looking for a discount or something for free. My true desire was just to get something to eat because I am too tired to cook. But with this horrible service and "resolution," I definitely won't be going back. Would they ever serve something like this at their restaurant? I could have just stuck a tortilla and cheese in my own microwave for this! read more

Visited this restaurant during a typical Thursday lunch with a few of my work colleagues. Since it's located in the Market Place Plaza, there's plenty of parking available. The restaurant boasts a tropical-themed ambiance with ample seating. Their burgers are generously sized, and with a side of fries, they make for a fulfilling meal. For those looking for a lighter option, they offer a burger bowl and a beach bowl. The beach bowl with fish, however, was a bit too salty and didn't quite hit the mark, while the burger bowl was pretty good, though the portion size was a bit on the smaller side. The service was a little slow, which was surprising given that it wasn't a rush lunch. I am writing to express my disappointment regarding a recent visit to your restaurant. Despite there being plenty of open seats available, I was left waiting for 15 minutes without being acknowledged or seated. To make matters worse, multiple staff members clearly saw me waiting, yet none took the initiative to assist or address the situation. This lack of attentiveness and service is extremely frustrating and does not meet the expectations I had for dining at your establishment. Seriously disappointed. Been eating with this chain for many years. And worked for their brea location about a decade ago. Fist off, the wait was kind of excessive for two tacos. But what really bothered me was the take out girl hovered over me as I signed the check. Literally watching the tip I'm adding to the bill. You just don't do that. And then, once I got my food, I found out that what I ordered no longer comes with French fries. It used to. So I'm walking out of islands with 2 tacos for $15. No sides. Idk what the hell islands is doing, especially this islands on jamboree, but I'm pretty much over it. I stopped by before catching a movie and had an amazing experience. The bartender Mayn cute, curly-haired, and incredibly friendly--made me an outstanding flight. She really went above and beyond and made the visit feel special. The male host Anthony was equally welcoming and attentive, making me feel right at home. Between the fantastic service, delicious drinks, and great food, this spot completely made my day off. I'll definitely be making this my go-to pre-movie hangout. Horrible service period! We tried to eat at the bar and no one came to us and asked us what we wanted. Waited 15 mins no one came up to us what's so ever we waved at some lady with red hair it appeared. She totally ignored us. As we were waiting we saw a manger who was a lady with black hair she walked by us but talked to and brought food out to others at the bar but didn't even try to get our order!! The only reason this review is getting four stars is because the quality of their food is relatively good and I enjoy every burger creation that is on the menu. The only thing I did not like about the place was the wait staff. Myself and three colleagues went for lunch at 11:30am and were told that we would have to wait 30 minutes for a table, when the place was clearly empty. They need to manager their labor more efficiently and ensure that there are enough servers during lunch. read more

I even met owner Wing Lam over the years and designed a few ads for him back when I worked at at OC Weekly. But enough about me, let's talk about the food. I kept it simple and ordered two classics, the 1988 Taco and the Crispy Fish Taco. Both came loaded with fresh cabbage, pico de gallo, melted cheese, and Wahoo's signature sauces. The 1988 Taco has that classic Baja-style flavor with tender grilled fish, while the Crispy Fish Taco takes it up a notch with crunchy beer-battered Alaska pollock, melted cheese, citrus slaw, and cilantro sauce. Everything tasted fresh, from the crisp cabbage to the chunky pico, and the sauces tied everything together without overpowering the fish. The crispy taco had a nice crunch, while the grilled fish taco let the flavor of the fish shine through. These are the kind of tacos that remind you why Wahoo's became so popular in the first place. And for the beef lovers out there, you've got to try their teriyaki beef bowl. Back in the day I think it was called the Number 13, and it was one of my favorites. Honestly, it's hard to go wrong here. Everything I've had over the years has been consistently good, and that's probably why this place has lasted as long as it has.
