Long overdue review but I've been here twice and I have to say that the ambiance is better than the food. That being said, the service has always been great so I do have to give brownie points for that. The very first time I came with my friend, we got the sashimi platter and I really did enjoy it! The sushi was pretty fresh and there was a decent amount. I was not too impressed with the yakitori, as it did not blow me away. We also got the chicken katsu curry and I definitely felt the portion could have been bigger. It was just average. I've definitely had a lot better. However, they were testing out ice cream flavors and my friend and I got free matcha ice cream that tasted great! This was during the time when they first opened. The second time I dined here was with my coworkers for happy hour. This time around, we got a bunch of drinks and tried the yakitori platter, and the wagyu fried rice (I think it's off the menu now) but there was barely any meat in the dish. Perhaps the food has improved since but overall, it's still a nice date spot to check out because the interior design is very nice (there are lanterns, flowers, etc) but the food could be better for its price based on my past experience. A welcome addition to this block in flushing's northern blvd. Definitely needed a spot like this in this area and block with all the new buildings going up. It's a hip atmosphere, well decorated, and great music. Wonderful spot for a date night, a dinner with the family, or after work drinks. The tables and booths are decorated and private. The bar area is large and welcoming. Go to items are the yakitori sampler, sushi platter with a variety of items, and the takoyaki. All were great flavor, fresh, and satisfying. So I definitely can decide I saw this place all over social media. What I came for was the atmosphere and that definitely did not disappoint. I absolutely felt like I was in a Japanese village and the booths that you sit in are very private it was very nice. Our servers were very attentive and quick to come when we rang them with the button in our booth. The food was solid! However, nothing to write home about. The sushi balls were aesthetically pleasing but not necessarily good sushi. The edamame was delicious. The gyoza were good. The tornado fried rice was one that everyone particularly enjoyed. A few things to consider before coming here, yes this is the TikTok famous place and yes the interior designs are AMAZING. It honest feels like I am in a small alley way in another country , the lights and the decor. The environment and the individual rooms (if you are lucky enough to score one) is worth the travel. It's in queen/ flushing which means if your from anywhere else but there it'll take you a good 1-2 hours to drive. Now putting that aside let's talk about the food. It was mediocre at best, everything was decent and just what you can expect from an izakaya, nothing more nothing less. The infamous unagi don is great, just not amazing. Nor is the price, personally I didn't think there was enough rice considering the whole eel they slapped on but the tamago was soft and a nice compliment. Fries were alright, and so was the ebi fry. The skewer platter was decent. Nothing too special except the pork belly skewers. Had the best smoky flavor and was just seasoned perfectly. Everything was was meh, the beef skewers had a gamy aftertaste which I personally did not like Now on to the disappointment , the wagyu platter. Price terrible, meat terrible HIGHLY recommend to avoid. Not worth the price, the wagyu itself was not great either. We made a reservation for one piece room, but it was not available so we were seated outside which was also nice. Not a lot of food to choose from. For me i saw mostly appetizers than main dishes. We came on a weekday in the middle of the day. The decor is amazing. It feels like you're instantly transported to Japan. I love the private booth seating as well. The staff is really nice and attentive, while managing to give us privacy to enjoy the food. The fried rice was our favorite and the yakitoro was 2nd favorite. I'd say skip the uni oyster, and sushi. Stunning restaurant. The decor creates an atmosphere of an authentic izakaya straight out of Japan. The menu has a little bit of everything you could ask for in an izakaya. The ika geso was nicely fried, it does not come with any dipping sauce; I don't usually use the accompanying dipping sauce, so NBD for me. The cream udon was nicely executed, noodles cooked perfectly, heavy on the umami. Toro ikura don is for tuna lovers. Plenty of thinly sliced toro, a few scoops of diced toro, and salmon roe over a bed of rice. The Hako sushi was a new experience for me. Pretty much just a variety of sliced fish on sushi rice in cubes. Finally we got the wagyu foie gras; tasted great but wasn't worth the $35; two pieces of wagyu/ uni/ foie gras on a piece of toast. We booked a reservation a few weeks ahead for a Friday date night and was glad we did. We saw many people waiting. Once we let the hosts know about our reservation we were seated within minutes. The atmosphere really makes you feel like you're in Japan. They had a good selection of food and we ordered a little bit of everything. Food was tasty but was on the pricey side. Our group of 3 had a wonderful time at Izakaya Nana. We made reservations through Yelp for a Wednesday night at 7:00pm and were seated right away. The restaurant is so welcoming with the decor and spacious seating. It was clean and there are private/separated tables/rooms for you and your friends. At the tables, there are call buttons for service and to pay. We ordered the signature sampler to share as an appetizer and the Hana awaka sake. I had the Wagyu golden fried rice and okonomiyaki to share with my husband. My friend ordered the hako sushi and passion margarita. The signature sampler was a wonderful way to sample multiple different appetizers, but a little hard to share since some items only came in 1 serving. The Wagyu golden fried rice was hands down my favorite dish of the night. It was flavored very well and very filling. I also check-ined on Yelp and received a complimentary Berry Mojito mocktail. I am absolutely in love with the decor of this place - I wish I could go in with no one there and just take pictures of everything. Some of the rooms are decorated differently than others and I saw this really cool "One Piece" section. I will come back just to sit in there lol. There's this pretty bar section right in the middle and it's a decent size so you can roll through for just some drinks. The entire place is so my vibe! As for the food, it was decent and I would try more things on the menu. Some of the items are slightly overpriced for what you get - it's not cheap that's for sure. However, it's a good enough experience so it's worth it. I liked their sake which was only $15 - not sure if that's HH price so you'll have to double check. I was feeling the creamy Udon & I couldn't stop eating those lobster potato salad balls. The sushi platter was so freakin pretty and while it was fresh, I still felt like $89.99 for that was kind of steep. It's only good for 1-2 ppl max. The various Yakatori was delicious. The buns were not bad and a good app but they're on the smaller side. Service was good, attentive. It was easy to order and the dishes didn't take forever to come out. With different themes. I asked how you get those and was told you need 7 to 8+ people, and if you call to ask for it by the room #. I was like, "Oh, how do you even know what the room # is?" My friends and I dined here last Thursday evening. Important to note, if you are unable to book a table online, call the restaurant and try your luck. We found street parking close to the restaurant too so we were happy. It doesn't look like much from the outside of the restaurant but the inside is a while another story. Past our table, I could see other booths, a pretty big bar area and past the bar were themed dining rooms. I think you have to call and book those in advance because some of them were full. I think this place is good for groups, birthday parties and a night out. The ambiance is nice. We ordered Ika geso kara-ge (Calamari), Kari Fry, and momo (chicken thigh skewers) for appetizers. They were good. For entrees, we each ordered 2 Tonkotsu Ramen, Tornado omelet fried rice, and Impossible Unadon (the picture was misleading and the price was a bit much). Overall: Food - 3.5 stars, the food tasted good but it wasn't mind blowing. Service and ambiance - 4 stars, the themed dining rooms were cool. If you're ever in the Flushing, NY area, I'd highly recommend making your way here for a meal. It's definitely worth it. The decor is so adorable! Makes you feel like you're in Japan. This place is wildly overhyped. I have to give it to their marketing team though because I've seen more videos of this place than I can count. I can't say any of the food was bad but nothing was really that extraordinary. The prices are Manhattan level but the quality just wasn't there. The fried squid wasn't very crispy and the mentaiko pasta had no mentaiko flavor at all. I did really enjoy the chawanmushi though. It had a great uni flavor infused throughout the egg. Overall, we spent well over $100 but everyone was still hungry after the meal. I definitely have to give 5 stars for the ambiance though. A relatively new restaurant addition to Flushing. The decor is very inviting with plenty of separate private booths to isolate the noise. The food came out hot and fresh for every dish. We ordered the yakitori platter which was a nice variety on the different types. The ramen was pretty average to me but the broth had decent depth. The shishito peppers had great charred flavor with nice crunch with the added crisps. We also ordered the A5 Wagyu stone grill but was more for the show with dry ice and cooking in front of you. Since this is an izakaya, there were tons of beverages also to pair with the food. My favorite for the visit would be the shishito peppers, even though it was an appetizer it hit the spot for me. Great izakaya spot with a variety of options, but definitely errs on the pricier side. It makes me miss having Izakaya Mew nearby with their cheaper prices. But regardless, Izakaya Nana delivers in taste and quality of dishes if you can look past the price point. The sashimi deluxe offered a great variety of sashimi, with portions for about 3-4 to try. It's not quite enough to fill you up, so ordering other items is a must. As you can imagine, the prices add up quickly! I also enjoyed the unadon - the eel was perfectly cooked, tamago was sweet & fluffy, and the rice was tasty too. The app sampler was nice to have; the raw octopus was a highlight for me personally. The fish was fresh and there was a nice variety! I'm not a huge fan of raw fish, but my friend enjoyed it. - Yakitori platter: 4/5 This was delicious. The only one I didn't particularly enjoy was the mushroom skewer which had a strong alcohol-like taste in my opinion. - Wagyu fried rice: 4.5/5 absolutely delicious.
