Make sure you make a reservation for the weekend. I was done with dinner at 8:30 and there was still an hour wait. I admit they have stellar presentation but the food itself was only meh. I've had better and the prices are quite high for what you get. We only got one drink and spent about $250 for 4 people and I left hungry. Also the beer we ordered didn't come till 1/2 way through the meal. The eel with egg over rice was COLD. The egg was hard. Do not recommend this at all. Sushi was okay. Nice presentation but you don't get much. The quality of fish was decent. Brussels sprout tempura was hard and no sauce. Yakitori was decent but again, the meat was not hot. The curry egg rice was hot! Finally something came out on time or wasn't premade. Taste was okay. Nothing special. I didn't try the ramen but my husband didn't have any big issues with it. We ordered the Yakitori Platter (7 preset skewers for $26), Bun Nana ($8), and Oden ($12). If you check in on yelp you can get a free mixed berry mocktail, which is nice. Yakitori Platter: Pork belly had a light miso paste on top Chicken thigh and leek had a sweet and savory sauce on it, which is my favorite. Chicken tender was a little dry and salty, but tasted good with mild wasabi on top Beef Skirt was seasoned well. Chicken wings were okay. Zucchini and mushroom was grilled well with light sauce. TLDR: Very sexy interior. There are some strong dishes on the menu but some of the more extravagant ones fell short for me. Karaage is solid, a la carte yakitori is probably the better move. Chawanmushi and the lobster potato balls. Can get pricey quick though. Izakaya Nana is probably the closest thing to a true izakaya is this type of area. They put a lot of effort into the interior. It's very stylish, super clean and I dig the whole ambiance. Drinks. The cocktails are not cheap but they are generous pours. The Nana Punch was recommended, the serving vessel was cool. Personally didn't love the flavor but decent. Strawberry Sake Mojito was tasty but I might prefer it to be less sweet. Food. I've been here twice and both times, some dishes were good. Others were a miss. Nana Ramen. Was so looking forward to this. From the "cup noodle" serving mug to the lobster tail and wagyu, how can you go wrong? Wagyu was fine but wagyu is wagyu. Lobster tail was charred well, nice peppery smoky flavor. The noodles themselves, slightly overcooked for my preference but the broth was unfortunately quite bland. It was a garlicky tonkotsu but not quite enough tare for me. The garlic was there but not the salty umami punch I was looking for. At $30+ for this, was very disappointed. Smoked Salmon Fire. Very cool dish to look at. At $18, it's a bunch of smoked salmon slices over a torch-lit fire with some edible flowers. It's not bad tasting but for the price, I can do without it. It's very pretty to look at but cost to value.. eh. Yakitori Sampler. Decent variety but again, really bland. Most of the cuts were overcooked and dry, not enough salt or yakitori sauce. Enough bad news. What was good? Karaage was great. The batter is unique, it's brined well, nicely crisp, juicy, good garlic/ginger flavor. Chawanmushi. Ikura, uni, a touch of truffle oil. It's a very fancy chawanmushi but the flavors are all there. I don't care for chawanmushi but I would order this again. Lobster Potato Salad Balls. Not really traditional but this was good. Fairly priced and tons of flavor. Lobster chunks, tasty Japanese style potato salad and a very delicately crispy shell. Think of a Japanese potato salad pani puri but with robster. Individual yakitori pieces were good. Especially the eel. Staff is attentive and very nice. I've been back and will go back again but - I am very mindful about what I order. The dishes that were a miss for me, probably wouldn't attempt them again considering how pricey they are. I've been eyeing the curry omurice, I will try that next time. This has to be the most aesthetic restaurant in Queens! The place is deceptively huge and has multiple rooms as well a a huge center bar. We came here at 5pm on a Monday and were seated in a room right away. The popular Manga room was taken so we were seated in the one across. They have a ton of servers and we were attended to right away. Their menu is expansive and has a wide array of choices. We were surprised they offered complimentary drinks when you check in on Yelp. The house cold sake was ice cold and hit the spot on a sweltering hot day. Some menu items were pretty pricey but they had more affordable options as well. We went for the first time on a Friday 2 pm. No parking lot. Street parking with meters. Free WiFi. Great ambiance. The place was almost empty with 2-3 tables. We were greeted right away. We spent some time on the claw machine ( $1 for 2 tokens. 1 token per play). The we were taken to a private room. We ordered the three lunch specials ( M-F 12-4 pm ) and more: - Bento box lunch $15.99 - Nana lunch $18.99 - omakase lunch $ 20,99 - Japanese clam miso soup $4.99 - Yakitori platter (7) $ 26.99. ( meat or veggie skewers ) All three lunch specials did not disappoint. Sashimi was fresh and melt in the mouth. Clam miso soup is just regular miso soup with 3 small clams. That's disappointing. Yakitori platter was my kids' favorite, especially the deboned chicken wings. Price for lunch special is definitely reasonable, given the ambiance and the service. There's a red button to call for service, so least interruption encountered. We were served by 3-4 waiters with overall great customer service except the one that took our order initially. He'd definitely rather to be somewhere else. Why not 5 stars? Food is overall only luke warm, especially the rice and the skewers. The hot plate where they placed the skewers wasn't even hot. There was only 1 out of 2 ( one flame was off) candle lite under the hot plate. Hot plate wasn't preheated either. So nothing sizzling on a room temperature hot plate. Next, I suspect there were so many different elements going on in the lunch special bento box. Rice was prepared in the bowls while waiting for other food to be cooked or prepared. We love going to izakayas and used to spend a lot of time at the ones in the East village and midtown but now there is a cool new izakaya in Flushing with many private rooms and a large bar. They have a large sake selection and many small shareable plates. I had to change my mindset that they are like tapas style plates because they are all smaller portions. We have come here for a date night and as a family group dinner and have enjoyed both times here. The service is pretty good they didn't complain when we wanted to change rooms but every room has a different style and vibe. They decorated the whole place like you are entering a little alleyway in Tokyo. I enjoyed the dragon ball sushi over the sushi boat both were very fresh but the dragon balls come with dry ice to keep it colder. The tornado curry rice was a nice portion and quite filling. I also liked the smoky flavor of the mixed yakitori sampler. The salmon roe rice was really tasty and enjoyable. I personally preferred the chicken karaage over the wings since I enjoyed the crunchiness more. I didn't really sense anything extremely special besides presentation for the hanging salmon and wagyu dishes but for these they also cook and prepare these dishes for you so the little button on the table can summon a person to help if you feel you are waiting too long. Best to come with a smaller group but just be prepared to spend more than you would think because you will want to order the whole menu. Comparable to city prices. This restaurant looks so amazing with very intricate Japanese decor all throughout! The ambiance is incredibly warm and welcoming, with many staff members catering to all the customers here. However, despite the staff being friendly and the service was quick, (except our ramen which took half an hour...) they also seemed chaotic and disorganized, where they often brought in food that's meant for other diners. They also spoiled our birthday cake surprise by asking the entire room (including the birthday boy), if they're ready for the cake... We were situated all the way at the back room, which according to the staff members was why the central air was so weak, leaving us feeling very warm and uncomfortable unfortunately. The yakitori platter was decent, but was leaning towards the blander side due to the small amount of condiment that coated it, which is a very easy fix! The unagi don was delicious and paired perfectly with the sweet Tamago. The sashimi platter was also incredibly fresh! The fried dishes were a bit plain and could definitely benefit from having some condiment on the side. My personal favorite was definitely the lobster potato salad balls and the ebi tempura, which was fried to perfection with a light and tasty crunch! Overall this restaurant has a lot of potential and since they opened not too long ago, I'm sure they're still working through some kinks (I.e., the karaoke machine in the rooms doesn't work, certain rooms are warmer than others, some menu items were out of stock like the chicken skin, the butter corn, etcetera). I wish I could give this 3.5 stars because it so close to 4 stars if not for it's service. First off, the interior decoration is insanely beautiful. When you walk in, every single corner and wall of this place has been carefully curated with Japanese inspired architecture and decorations. When you walk towards the bar, you're greeted with an army of darumas and there's even what looks to be a building facade indoors to make you feel like you're walking through Japan. There are even themed rooms in the back which are super cute and look really fun. The food itself was decent but expensive. The wagyu fried rice was delicious, but it would have been better if there were some sort of vegetable too brighten up the color instead of it being all brown. The dragon Ball sushi was also very yummy with great seasoned rice, but the staff was unable to tell us what each piece was, which is a problem if you have any allergies (which we were not asked for when we sat down). The karage chicken was made with dark meat and was insanely delicious, but you only really got six small pieces. I really wanted to try the okanomiyaki but they were all out since yesterday. Drinks are amazing, and don't forget to check in for your free non-alcoholic berry mojito. I also got a strawberry sake mojito and it was huge and delicious. Definitely worth the money. Now the part that took away from the experience: it's clear the wait staff is very inexperienced. They are sweet and try their best, but there was a lack of coordination and a lot of waiting for things. The timing of food was also strange, for example, you'd normally start with appetizers, but we got that after the fried rice. When I asked about the sushi, the waiter said he was not the chef and could not tell me but he went to go get a manager, but no one ever showed up. He later came back and seemed to be guessing about what the different sushi was, so that wasn't very reassuring. I think this place has a lot of potential to be a super great hangout spot for parties and friends, but they need some work in training staff to really get there. Wishing them. I came here on a date and neither of us had any idea of what to expect. Izakaya was definitely an experience that we will relive again. The interior is beautifully designed. It's like taking a step into Japan (well, I'm guessing so since I've never been). The staff is super friendly and seated us immediately. The menu is pretty extensive and offers a variety that should fit anyone's palate. We saw so many items and opted to try them all. As such, I'm not going to go in detail for each item. Just know that everything was delicious. There are some oddities here, but if you approach the dishes with an open mind, I think you'll enjoy it all. I have to say that the drinks here were fantastic. We only got soft drinks, and they were all rich in complex flavors while not being too sugary or overwhelming. One thing that is really unique about this spot is the seating, you are either seated in a booth up front or have a private dining table with curtains so good for a small intimate group. What an experience! We've been eyeing this spot for a while and finally got a chance to try it. The private booths were a nice touch and gave us the ambiance we wanted for a romantic night out.
