If I'm in the mood for a steak and I don't want to drive too far this is where I go. The Maui ribeye is delicious and so is the NY strip. For me, the sides really set it off. The mac and cheese is one of my favorites ever. It has a nice creamy white cheese and is baked with breadcrumbs on top. The loaded baked and smashed potatoes are also great. The ribs and the burger are both very good and the cocktails are well made (nice and strong). The seating in the booths is very very comfortable and I enjoy the low lighting for dinner. So, I've had 2 weeks since I was last there, however, I can't erase the memory of what a deplorable experience I had and feel compelled to post. First of all the restaurant has recently imposed a corkage fee on bottles brought in (previously, if the wine you brought was not on their list, there was no fee...also, there was never a limit on how many bottles that could be brought...now the limit is 2; and with a party of 6, that's not enough...and it's not because they think you would be drinking too much either, as they happily sold us a 3rd bottle...now, on to the food...my steak had to be sent back 2X, with the Manager admitting neither were done, as ordered...steak #3 was tough and fatty but, since everyone at the table had already finished their meal, I ate a little and left a lot. Management advised that J Alexanders had been recently sold; and that it was "corporate" that compelled the wine import limitation...a call to corporate recently revealed that bottle limitations are left up to the individual restaurant. Lies and carelessly prepared food are marketing no-no's...and do nothing to make a long standing customer want to go back. read more

My customer said the prime rib was the best he'd ever eaten. I had steak frites and it was fantastic. All the steaks for the table were cooked perfectly. Our Waiter Joshua made our meal service outstanding, Fore even a less then stellar meal ( Which this was not ) , is elevated when you have exceptional service. I ordered the Prime rib , it did not disappoint , along side smashed potatoes , the ladies enjoyed petite filet cooked perfectly , along side their version of Mac N Cheese . All is well. The New England clam chowder however was watery and a tad over peppered. That was the only ugh moment . My girlfriend surprised me and brought me here for my birthday. A little disappointed because she advised the restaurant that it was my birthday and all they did was write happy birthday on a post card. The waitress saw it and didn't even ask whose birthday we were celebrating. The food was okay. Nothing out of this world. Another waitress brought the dessert and didn't even sing Happy birthday. Had a lovely time at J.Alexander's yesterday with 5 family members as we celebrated my nephew's 21st birthday. Four of us ordered the Steak and Fries which is our 'usual' as we only come here once or twice a year. Three of the steak group completely finished every bite including the huge portion of yummy fries! I took a piece of my steak home as I just couldn't finish it and it was too good to throw away! My mom loved her macaroni cheese. Her pork tenderloins were served a little underdone for her taste but the staff quickly took care of the issue and mom was good to go! Our server Nadia and the rest of the staff were quick with refills on drinks, clearing used plates, and checking on us throughout the meal. This restaurant has many employees unmasked and serving food during our Covid 19 crisis. Our waiter admitted he was not vaccinated and was not masked. How hard is it to wear a mask when serving food? It may not be possible for management to ask their employees if they have been vaccinated, but take into consideration your customers. I have eaten at the Plantation location although it was a little over a year since I had done so. My family decided to meet relatives at this location for dinner after a show. We were seated after only a few minutes of waiting even though we made a reservation. The restaurant wasn't that crowded and I was a little confused on why we had to wait. However, it was only about 5 minutes so it wasn't a huge deal. The service was outstanding. We had two servers taking care of us and they both were really fantastic. They refilled the drinks in a very timely manner and were always around if we needed anything. The only complaints that I have are that they need to include macaroni and cheese on the kids menu. Most kids eat it and they kind of had to improvise since our daughter really wanted it. I ordered the rotisserie chicken with fries and the chicken was very dry. It also wasn't seasoned well and tasted a bit bland. I probably would order something else next time. The front of the house is above average. J. Alexander's has such an "upscale steakhouse" look and vibe that I was shocked to see just how affordable a lot of there food actually is! I came here for a graduation dinner with my friend (which I was footing the bill for), and it totally didn't hurt my pockets as much as I had dreaded it would! I really like the dimly lit dining area, which makes for a calm and comfortable ambience. Our server was very attentive, friendly, and quick as well! The food was mostly good - I ordered the baby back ribs plate, and a slice of carrot cake. The ribs were what I found to be a little of a hit-and-miss...I'm not sure how they were cooked, but they were more chewy and even slightly on the tough side, rather than the tender, fall-off-the-bone meat you look for on ribs. They were slathered in some sort of plum bbq sauce that was very flavorful, but more spicy than I care for. They came with shoestring fries and coleslaw, both good! The carrot cake was great - it had NO RAISINS which made me very happy! But it did have currants in it, which I was still ok with. I loved the crunch from the occasional walnut, and the thick layer of cream cheese frosting on top - so good! My friend had gotten the Powerful Stuff dessert, which is HUGE and super sweet, but was also really good! All in all, with the great prices, great service, and solid food, I'd recommend this spot for dates, special occasions, get-togethers, or any other time you want a good environment with good food to share in good company. :) read more

Came here for a business lunch as I remember the burger being pretty tasty. We were sat promptly and order was taken pretty fast which was great considering we were limited on time. My biggest complaint comes from the end of our meal, I barely touched my salad and when the waiter came to pick up the table and asked if we wanted anything else, I told him I wanted to take my salad to go...well that didn't happen as he must have not heard me and next thing I know he placed everyone's plates over mine and therefore making the salad unsalvageable- there went 10 bucks down the drain. I've heard a lot about this restaurant, since it's the favorite of a friend. So, I figured it was time to try it. I had the Maui steak - a good sized prime rib with a sauce that was redolent with soy sauce, pineapple and ginger. The steak was a bit on the fatty side, but was properly cooked to medium rare. The sauce was a very nice accompaniment. The steak came with a side of smashed potatoes. These were red potatoes, mashed with the skin on. The seasoning was just salt and butter. They were nothing special, but went nicely with the steak. If you're planning on going during rush hour, they don't take reservations, so plan in advance. read more

I like their food, especially their salads, and usually get one of them, or broiled fish. Portions are large, and well prepared. Depending on the time of day and day of the week, service can feel rushed, like they want to turn the table around fast for the Boca crowd waiting. Or, you can be ignored, for the wait staff have too many tables. The service is somewhat impersonal, as the waiter/waitress takes your order, the food runner brings it, and you really don't see or interact with the waiter/waitress anymore. Too many times I have had to flag down someone, anyone, to get my coffee refilled, or another bootle of water. So, I return, although sometimes I leave wondering why, when there are so many other places to go to. And prices are somewhat high. And along with their no reservations policy, you have to wonder is it worth it to wait 30 minutes for lunch or dinner. For me, the answer is no. I can't go more than 3 stars. read more

So I'm just in love with this place. Yelpers seem to like this place a lot but J Alexanders is absolutely the right place for diner, or drinks or lunch. I truly have never had a bad meal here. I would suggest asking for Carl (manager) make sure you get the best of everything but truly this place is a standout in Boca Raton for great food, generous drinks and excellent service. You can't go wrong here, but take my advice am order the flowing for the best J Alexandre's has to offer: Filet medium with a side if Mac and cheese and order the Queso dip for an appetizer to cover all the bases. This place can get a little expensive but the value per dollar is truly the best value in boca raton. They game their call-ahead program to tell people they'll walk right in so they get mobbed and people are buying more drinks while they're waiting. Over promise and under delivery keeps me out of this McEatery run by the amateur hour and staffed with wait people using season dollars and a little more experience to move out of the BJS/Brewzzi/Alexander's factory restaurants to something a bit less hectic. We've eaten at Pf Chang's a number of times so decided to try this place instead on Friday night. Our server, Marissa, was super nice and attentive. She probably boosted this place up to a 4 star from the 3.5 food. * Buttered Wheat Toast and Croissant $0 - Hot, buttery croissants fresh from the oven and multi grain-encrusted wheat toast for free. Just ask for them and they shall be yours! But preferably mine, all mine! Muahaha! Seriously, the croissants were soo deliciously flakey on the outside and soft in the middle. I could've eaten a dozen on the spot. * Calamari $12 - Freshly fried with a light batter, served with marinara sauce and grated parmesan cheese. Really good. * Filet Mignon with Bernaise $30 - I got my steak medium rare, which was a little bit bloodier than what I am used to but was still melt-in-your-mouth good. Definitely worth the splurge. *NYO Mac and Cheese $4 - For a dish named "not your ordinary" mac and cheese, I was disappointed when it tasted well, quite ordinary... is it the bacon bits that's supposed to set it apart? * BBQ Danish Baby Back Ribs $24 - bleh... ribs were really dry and overcooked. I was out to lunch and ordered the cheeseburger, service was fine, burger was cooked how I ordered it with all the fixings I requested, BUT the burger was served cut in half like a sandwich. Now, any true burger aficionado knows you do not cut your burger in half ever or you risk all the delicious juices running out. Yeah, I missed out on the juiciness of this burger. What exactly because with the French dip sandwich must specifically requested that I don't get it but I don't like it. On another occasion I had the ribs. Avoid them. Then I fresh. They were reheated at least twice they were try the sauce was running and it was really bad. It was after Christmas and I was so over eating Italian food so I was so looking forward to beef. I ordered the prime rib which came with mashed potatoes and horseradish cream sauce. 3.5 ​The similarities are eerie. It this were a movie, Houston's would be Dickie Greenleaf and J. Alexander's would be playing the role of Tom Ripley to perfection. The menus are also comparable, though I think the food is better at Houstons. You go to J. Alexanders when you basically are too lazy to drive another 1/2 mile west on Glades or because you don't feel like gambling on a wait being longer than 30 minutes. That said, the food at J. Alexander's is what I would consider high quality chain restaurant. Reg or veggie burgers, salads, soups are all good choices. Their "not so ordinary" mac and cheese is killer, literally. For your basic lunch chicken sandwich, Hyde Park is the way to go. I will say, their side options are better than Houstons, orzo, couscous, smashed potatoes, shoestring fries and that heart-stopping M&C I talked about. J. Alexanders is a nice alternative and if you're starved while waiting for your food, ask them for some hot croissants to hold you over there. They're free! read more

I went here with my sister for dinner. I ordered a veggie plate and I was very impressed. I had ordered vegetable plates at other places and a couple of them there was no seasoning, but at this place everything was seasoned very nice. My sister had a veggie burger and she substituted out fries for mac and cheese. She had heard the mac and cheese was "to die for." I asked her if it was indeed to die for and she said although she has had better it was still very delicious. I like that you can call ahead for a table. We actually called on the way there. It was a 40 minute wait but because we called 20 minutes before we got there this decreased the waiting time to 20 minutes. We ended up deciding to eat at the bar because there was no wait there.
