Terrible to-go service! We have eaten inside the Chattanooga location many times.. so when I order to-go I should expect nothing different... a favorite of ours is the Mr. Jacks crispy chicken tinder appetizer and when we order in house we get minimum 7/8 tinders and a very healthy portion of fries (definitely enough for 2 people to share while waiting for your entrée). But today 7/25/23 I order it online and when I go to pick up they handed me the to-go bag, I checked the food and they only gave me 4 tinders... this is a 16 dollar appetizer.. I asked the hostess if 4 tinders in this is the norm and she said YES!?... so kindly I explained my confusion of when we eat in the restaurant we normally get more and especially for the price I was expecting the same amount.. she went to the kitchen and came back to tell me they are making me extras... she brought me with a container with only 1 chicken tinder... I was so stunned by the bullshit stunt they just pulled on me I walked out... I am so disappointed in the "service" if you can even call it that.. I will not be a returning customer.. and I don't want see the lame ass generic comment from the "manager" on here either.. this restaurant and workers are complete SHIT.. and if aren't in their "normal" customer demographic (old, white, a regular, or look wealthy) you won't receive proper service.. y'all are lucky the old white rich people with no taste buds keep y'all in business.. read more

J Alexanders is known for their steaks... and they do have some great steaks! I ordered the special and it came out perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned. In addition to my steak, I got a huge mound of smashed potatoes, which were also great! Be prepared to pay for this plate of perfection though. J Alexanders is *very* proud of their steaks and rightly so. The service was also excellent. The server was very personable and wasn't just a stiff taking orders and delivering food. He kept the drinks flowing and made sure our meal was perfect in every way. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for some great food, especially a great steak! read more

He MADE my trip ! Suuuuuper friendly and up beat. What a bar tender should be. He recommended something great on the menu. J. Alexander's has become our "go to" on date nights. The food and service are always on point. We love the Prime Rib, but have also been happy with everything else we've tried on the menu. The Chocolate Cake is a perfect compliment to our meals. We normally make a reservation if we go on a weekend. On weeknights, we normally walk-in with minimal wait. read more

What can I say, J Alexander's is great! While on a business trip, my boss insisted we come here for dinner to get the club sandwich. As he said, "this is the BEST club sandwich that I have ever had." I don't know about you, but I don't want a club sandwich for dinner. Apparently, others feel the same way, as this item isn't even on the dinner menu. However, before I could speak, he ordered me the sandwich. Oh well, a sandwich will work just fine. So the club sandwich with a side of mac 'n cheese shows up at my table. WOW! That is not like any sandwich I have ever had before. The restaurant got quite, the world slowed down, and a southern baptist church choir started singing. Every bite seemed to be better then the last. The honey mustard sauce pulled all of the meats, and cheeses together in a way that can only be described through interpretive dance. Must say was quite pleasantly surprised for a multitude of reasons. First where else but chattanooga and J Alexander's can you feed 10 from a work event for $300 plus tip! Yes some of us had a drink. I've yet to have anything bad here. By far the best restaurant on this side of town. I'm not really a fan of chains but J. Akexander's always delivers. Their prime rib is perfect. The rotisserie chicken can sometimes be overcooked and a bit dry; I imagine they know this about themselves so they include chicken au jus with the meal. Their rattlesnake pasta is flavorful and a huge portion. The veggie burger is surprisingly good; it's their own recipe. It tastes nothing like meat but is delicious, which I appreciate. People always get into trouble when they try to create something that mimics something else. The skinny fries are annoying to eat but they do taste good. Their dinner salads are huge and aren't overshadowed by too much dressing. If you're afraid of that, just get it on the side. My fav appetizers are the smoked salmon and queso. The carrot cake y'all! First of all, it's a mammoth piece. Enough for 2-3 ppl to share, I'd say. It comes warm and gooey with a cream cheese frosting (not thick) melting all over it. I'm not a sweets person but this cake is crazy good and will somehow make you feel ok about overeating (because if you finished your meal, you're definitely full at this point). Ambiance is always the same: romantic but not too much so to make it uncomfortable if you're there alone or with a friend or family members. Be careful if you're on a budget! I was here recently for a graduation celebration. For a guy who's been living in Chattanooga for more than three years i have never been to j Alexander. I got recommendation from my boss to try the food here. We reserved a table for five on a Saturday night at 7:45. We got there at 7:30 and was sat down right away. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The staff service is excellent. We ordered new York strip and were not disappointed. This was the first time i ordered steak at a restaurant and got what i asked for. We also tried the ahi tuna fish cooked rare and it was the best tuna I've ever had anywhere. We had a pleasant time at j Alexander and i would recommend anyone here for the excellent food and customer service!! We will be returning soon!! read more

Came here for lunch to bring clients. Great lunch menu and dinner menu for this upscale steakhouse. Decided to get the soup of the day which had rice spicy sausage and chicken and very spicy but also very tasty. The bread to dip in the broth made it even better. For my lunch I got a salmon Caesar salad and was a great size portion of salmon and very good Caesar salad. The croutons were awesome. For the area it's a good option. Compared to the restaurants in Atlanta, I'd give it a 2. We had a reservation for Valentine's Day expecting brunch, but lunch menus were given. Our server was semi-engaging and only needed reminding a few times. I ordered a salad with avocado and baked potato. It was pretty standard. Potato a tad overlooked. My husband had a Veggie burger with fries that he enjoyed was didn't wow him. Bathrooms were clean and bar area was secluded from restaurant. Overall a good experience! Thank you J. We literally waited for 30 mins to be on the waitlist. Not to mention that they texted the wrong number. When being seated, no server came to greet us or take our drink orders. I have eaten at J Alexander'a on multiple occasions and have typically had good experiences. Today I made a reservation online and was told by the hostess that she wasn't sure why the website allowed me to make a reservation because there was a wait. There was no apology of effort made to find a table to honor the reservation. I called and asked for a manager to make sure they were aware of a situation that should have been handled a bit differently. i spoke with Alicia who did offer an apology and thanked me for letting her know. Service absolutely sucked! Our waitress came by 2 times before our food was delivered, once to get our drink orders and twice to drop them off to our table and get our dinner order. She NEVER came back to our table. Our food was delivered by another server. She stopped by other tables around us but never stopped by to check if everything was ok after our food was delivered or even ask if we'd like another cocktail! And this was an early dinner, and they were not crowded when we arrived but started to get busier when we left. We had to flag her down for our check! We were shocked by the lack of interest with our table, maybe because we were only 2 and her other tables had 4 or more. Maybe she was looking at bigger table....bigger tip maybe....but unacceptable! We are very generous with our tips usually we will tip 30% or sometimes more to support wait staff because they do work hard and deal with a lot of demanding customers but this wasn't us. So maybe she should've considered not basing her service on a tip. The food is not that great to go in and get poor service! We've tried J Alexander's several times since moving here from Dallas and the menu, service and food have gone downhill. We will not be back. Our fav go to restaurant for my husband and I. We probably go once a week or once every 2 weeks and the service is ALWAYS on point and food is ALWAYS consistently great. This is the first time I have gone to a restaurant where I had to add no seasoning to my food. it was perfect. we had the prime rib which was served with mashed potatoes. both were perfect. for starters we had the spinach queso dip was very good. also had the carrot cake.
