Had "The Duke" martini and it was as perfect as it sounds, classic and so pretty. The extra olives make it even better. Their calamari appetizer is very good and the marinara sauce is lightly spicy. The steaks are just as good you would expect at a high end place like this, and the Mac & cheese side is a perfect accompaniment. Such a nice spot for a dinner date! There's a variety of dishes and they all sound delicious. I always get the Thai Kai salad (not pictured), but decided to try something new this time. The salad is super fresh and it's a huge portion. The fish tacos came with a jalapeño sauce and it was an absolute flavor bomb. You can never go wrong with tacos! I absolutely love J Alexander's!! There are so many wonderful food selections to choose from. I normally do the ahi tuna salad, which is heaven!!, but I decided to try something new. I'm so glad I did! I had the mahi tacos, with the salsa. 3 perfect tacos with a nice salsa blend and avocado. The mahi was fresh and seasoned very nicely! I didn't snap a pic because I was too busy eating! Sorry not sorry though, these tacos were delish! We finished with the carrot cakes which is served warm with a cream cheese gooey frosting. This place has always been a favorite! The reason I go there isn't for the wonderful chicken tenders or the artichoke! It's for their amazing martini drinks. Their lemon drop martini is absolutely the best in town! And only 2 of those get you drunk! Most menu items changed since the last time I was there, however, the Mountainous Onions Rings was always the favorite and still there! Of course, I ordered a to-go box for that one because my fiancé wanted them. I was being good that night because I already ate a lot prior to arriving, so I ordered the Cypress Salad (I know, a healthier option). It consisted of chopped crispy chicken tenders, pecans, avocado, bacon, cheese, croutons and ranch dressing. My goodness, it was a lot of salad (I mean dang, so much). I've been to this location several times and have never been disappointed. I recently ate here for lunch and dinner and both times the food was really good. My go-to is usually the veggie burger that I absolutely love with the shoestring french fries that are delish! The veggie burger is flavorful and for those looking for a burger look and consistency this hits all the marks. For those with a gluten allergy the veggie burger (minus the bun) and the fries are available. On one of our visits my daughter had the steak and mashed potatoes that she raved about. The service is always consistently friendly and efficient and the location at the St. Johns Town Center is ideal if you're shopping and want to take a break for a good meal. The only negative I feel compelled to mention because I was so mortified to witness is when I saw a server grab a cherry with her bare hands from the bar and plop it in some unsuspecting guest's cocktail. I saw tongs available, but for whatever reason she chose to use her fingers. This would never be acceptable, but at a time when guests are expecting restaurants to adhere to the highest standard of safety and cleanliness this is just completely impermissible! That kind of behavior violates diners' trust and makes me question what else is happening. I'll have to think long and hard about returning. read more

Before you get too excited, it wasn't good. Our server took forever on everything she did. After we were greeted it took her about 10-15 minutes to return each time; to take our order, to check on us, to bring us more water, to bring us the bill, to bring us Togo boxes. Surprsingly, I popped my J. Alexander's cherry this past week when attending a business dinner with my lady's office. First things first, the restaurant is gorgeous. It's vast in its layout, the lights are dim, and the seats are comfortable. Aka, the mood is set for success. As for the meal itself, the upscale menu delivers big flavors. Prices are high, but I can justify them every now and again. Apps: calamari, deviled eggs and fire-grilled artichokes. The first two were standard, but the artichokes (at least to me) were the favorite, especially the rémoulade. Main course: French Dip ($19). Sliced prime rib was piled high, tender and unbelievably juicy. Horseradish provided the kick to balance out the saltiness, and the au jus, well who doesn't love au jus? Accompanying the sandwich were a mountain of fries, which were shoestring style; delish! Overall, a very solid meal. Service was great, considering our party of 10. No hiccups throughout the lengthy dinner. Loved seeing local beer options from Engine 15, Intuition, and Bold City. Is it worth the price? Yes. Can one afford to eat here more than once a week? I even split a second dish of the cilantro shrimp with my cousin and that too had my mouth watering. Every plate was cleaned off!! The only reason I took off a star is because they are just too over priced for the quality of steak that I had. Yea it was thick juicy and delicious but I could also get a thicker, juicier, more deliciously seasoned steak from Outback with more sides and with a difference of $10 maybe more depending how hungry you're feeling . Let me begin this review with "Frankie was magnificent!" Excellent service from pleasantries to packing the takeout boxes; she was a gem. My group of 10 diners second this notion. There was a 20-30 min wait when we arrived for dinner at 8pm. My group retreated to the bar where I enjoyed an Angel's Envy at the recommendation of the gentleman bartender. I'm not usually a drinker of dark liquor but he topped it with maraschinos making it a smooth libation that created the perfect Segway to dinner. If your plan to go for happy hour make sure you do it on a Wednesday. You can't beat top shelf Martinis for only $6 and after they fill your glass you also get whatever is left in the shaker which almost adds up to 2 drinks. You just can't beat it. The Filet is normally my go to but this time I got the French Dip and let me say it did not disappoint. Easily one of the the best I have ever had.
