I hadn't been to a J. Alexander's for over 10 years but our group chose to come here because of location, parking, and ability to make reservations. Food was good, drinks were good, and we thought service was good until our bank notified us that two hours after we left, several fraudulent charges were attempted on the card we used there. Because we hadn't otherwise used it in a while, we knew someone there must have skimmed or taken a picture of it for their own purposes. We called to make JA aware of what had happened and were transferred to a manager who picked up and immediately hung up. Subsequent calls were ignored. We then called the corporate office in Texas who said they'd look into it. I hold out no hope that any action will be taken but because our bank is so great and proactive, we were protected. A quick search tells me the same thing has happened at other JA locations too, so maybe looking into it isn't a strong enough of a response? tl;dr version: food good, fraud bad. You know it's going to be good when they have an open California kitchen, and they didn't disappoint. The restaurant is beautiful and gives off a romantic vibe but is yet so chill that you can go with your mama or just some friends. I was in the mood for a steak and while I was a little disappointed they didn't have a ribeye, they did have a prime rib that didn't disappoint. It was cooked expertly and just as butter rich like I like it. Mashed potatoes were a little too salty but my dinner partners were made to order and were delicious. Maybe I just got a bad spoonful. The icing on the cake was my lemon drop martini which was just fantastic. It rounded out the night with amazing customer service that makes me want to go back tomorrow! read more

Was a regular customer since 2016. Food still good but today service absolutely terrible. I sat at the bar for many years through Covid they had competent servers who stayed there until this year. I was there a few weeks ago there was still one or 2 familiar faces. Today a whole new crew. Had to ask to order food came had to ask for utensils.wasnt given daily specials. It wasn't crowded. Interesting thing 2 days ago I sat next to someone at Bricktops down the street we both agreed food better at J Alexander's west end but service makes it now almost untenable. Not crowded when we walked in but no plates had been picked up from previous customers and bar not wiped down. A health issue. Please do better. Long term customer. Please bring back the quiche and maybe old staff. Not sure why they made changes but if something was working don't change it, terrible service, Sad to see this happen I'll stick with Bricktops on west end until I hear better reviews on service. read more

Visited J Alexanders in Nashville and was very disappointed compared to other visits. We were used to great service and great food. This visit JA missed both. We did not have a reservation, but were able to be seated fairly quickly on a Thursday. After that things did not go well. The service was very spotty. Our waiter would disappear atvtimes and not come back for 10 minutes. Also, multiple times we would order something and he would say he would be right back, but not come back for 5-7 minutes. The food, not as good as we usually receive overall. we had queso which was good. A couple salads, Caesar that were good as well. For main courses 3 steaks, lasagna, chicken, and another item. The chicken was good and the lasagna positive. The steaks were all overcooked. The strips were just slightly and were well received the filet was but not close to the medium rare that was ordered. Great price for wine was a positive. Also, we were celebrating my wife's birthday and the chocolate cake they served was very good. Overall, this was for sure the weakest meal we have ever had at JA. The food & service is always very good at J Alexander's downtown. Parking is tight and reservations are strongly recommended because they are busy even on nights when you may not expect it (e.g. Sunday, Monday). The prime rib is excellent, as is the salmon and fried shrimp. Last night I had Alexander's salad with grilled shrimp. The amount of shrimp was very generous. We dine at this restaurant frequently because of its proximity to Sarah Cannon Research Institute and there is one consistent issue: it's freezing in the restaurant. Does anyone know what happened to the veggie burger? It used to be my absolute favorite and unmatched! The last two times I went, I told my husband something's off. I gave it one last try this weekend and sadly told him I'll never order it again. The waiter pointed out I barely touched it but I didn't have the heart to tell him I didn't like it. I've been eating the veggie burger for 11 years but something changed! The last few times it didn't have the glaze, it barely had anything but rice and no beets! To be so busy we got our food super quick. It was lunch time, and we were craving something delicious. I was worried the lunch hour wouldn't be long enough since the parking lot was so full. But we sat at the bar and ordered right away. It food was out in minutes. My friend enjoyed her burger and fries. I enjoyed the chicken sandwich and Ceasar salad. I must worn you the salad is a $6 up charge. My only critique is everyone has to calling spicy chicken sandwiches Nashville hot chicken. Got into town late on Jan 1st. Called and they said they would close soon but if there in 5 mins they would seat us. We got there and the sat us as there were a few empty tables. First off the place was not clean. Ok we were there at the end of the night on a holiday so I can give them a pass. However at least get rid of the food on the floor under the table. Ok now for the rest of the review. The service was good and even with us being there just before closing staff was smiling and accommodating. We each had a drink and the better was the pomegranate martini. My son had a Caesar salad that was excellent (wish I had it). We both had burgers his a classic cheeses and mine the two patties. They were just ok. Mine was very salty. Overall pretty good but I liked when they gave bread before. read more

Not our best experience. We live in Brentwood, and usually go to the Cool Springs location and it's always on point. This Nashville location, was a total fizzle from beginning to horrifying end. Starting with drinks. My gin drink tasted like limeade watered down with flat seltzer. Then, our appetizer came out: no silverware. I went to the host station to get some, because the bartenders were MIA. I go to put some of the appetizer on my plate, and the app plate is filthy. Main dishes come out. Wife's is fine, but someone over salted either the meat or the dressing for my salad. It was off. But with a healthy chaser of water, I forced some of it down. Which brings me the the water glasses. After drinking about half my initial water, I noticed water rings around the glass, and my wife's glass. Disgusting. Clearly, they're having issues in the kitchen. I should also note that while sitting at the bar, the smell of the grey water trap, and rubbing alcohol was wafting up above the bar, to sour our meal. And, the piece de resistance: when we got home, I had a bit of leftovers, and found a piece of plastic wrapper in the food. Had that happened in the restaurant, I would have walked the f^ck out without paying. Just an absolutely horrifying experience, that followed me home. This location is just disgusting. read more

Redlands is one of those places that feels like home. I'm from the Atlanta area and they have a couple locations there, so I went here growing up and it's consistently yummy. This location definitely has some differences from the GA locations, which was nice! Giving it a 4 because it's more of a chain-like feel, but still yummy! Parking: Soooo much parking, not an issue at all. Ambiance: Good date night spot or spot for families if you're looking for a nicer dinner! Dim lighting, almost like a chain steakhouse without the emphasis on steak. If that makes sense! Lol Service: Stephen was our waiter and he was fantastic! Knowledgable, funny, he was great! Food: As I mentioned in the food pics, the martinis come with a sidecar so you basically get 2 for 1 and we were like... ooookayyy this is amazing, see you every week haha. We started with the Avocado Bomb and it was amaze!!! It had crab & spicy tuna in the middle and honestly one of the best starters I've had- not too filling, tastes yummy. I got the Grilled Chicken Salad, which I always go back to cuz the flavors are soooo good together. Love it! The husband got a Double Stack burger and he said it was super good. The bun wasn't too thick and he's a fry guy so obviously enjoyed the pile of fries. We ended with the carrot cake (we were celebrating), but got it to-go cuz we were stuffed. I loved that they didn't heat it up yet like they normally would, so we did it at home (as pictured)! And omg YUMM. Just order it. Cons: N/A Everything was great! This was one of the best veggie burgers I have had in a long time. It is made in house and tastes very fresh. The beets color it well and the texture reminds me a lot of hamburger. It is a huge sandwich and definitely shareable. I was disappointed that they use chicken stock in their spinach dip and their macaroni & cheese. I didn't get to try those but would likely return for the veggie burger when I'm craving it again. There are not many vegetarian items here, so I doubt I will visit often. I'm glad I tried it though. Typically when traveling I do not like to go to places I can go when I am home in Florida. However this location was right outside our hotel so it was a good choice for a quick meal. We actually went twice. Once for lunch and once for dinner. Being veganish they don't have a lot of options, so my friend and I shared a veggie burger and a side of bok choy. Both times the kitchen split both and both times delicious! Most times I hate veggie burgers, but they really know what they're doing. It wasn't mushy or odd tasting. What made us go back for dinner was the coffee! For $3.00 you get a pot of French pressed coffee. From the moment they deliver it and press it, the aroma draws you in. It is absolutely delicious. You get about 3 cups or more of it from the press. One night we wanted to go just for coffee but we didn't want to take a table just for that. Service both times was very good.
