I am writing to express my disappointment with my recent dining experience at this restaurant. Unfortunately, the food quality and service did not meet the standards I've come to expect from J. Gilbert's. The dishes we received were not prepared well, THE FISH WAS RAW, the food lacked flavor, and overall, it was not worth the price point associated with the establishment. To make matters worse, when I raised my concerns, the management's, TRIPP, response was dismissive and unprofessional. Rather than addressing the issue respectfully, I was met with rudeness and a lack of accountability, which made the entire experience even more unpleasant. I truly value good service and have never been to J. Gilbert's in the past, but this visit left me extremely disappointed. I hope they take this feedback seriously and address both the quality control in the kitchen and the management's approach to customer service. read more

I went here with my wife and extended family over the holidays. They were pretty busy, but the server was not necessarily the best. Very nice...but not the best. The bread was delicious.....It came with some different butters, and was backed with Hickory I think...GOOD! I had a steak which was good as well, but the service was lacking during the meal. The manager was talking to us the whole time trying to make it seem like it was not that long of a wait I guess, but it was too long. He did give us a dessert to split at the end of the meal which was courteous of him, but it still left a bad taste in my mouth about the wait. My fiancé wanted to try this place after seeing some ads in her email. After a long stroll through the parking lot, we found our way to the restaurant. We were sitting in a booth near the entrance when something hit my head. I tried to steer it, as our waiter approached. My fiancee wanted me to get surf and turf, because that's my favorite. Food was ok. The waiter was quite rude. He felt the need to make inappropriate remarks about my order. I wanted to try my steak, so I decided to take it home. Our waiter ran to grab my fiancee's plate, returned with a paper bag that could fit kitchen utensils and walked away until she was ready for her tip. I had such a great experience here and will absolutely be back! The atmosphere was warm and inviting, cozy without feeling stuffy, and the service was excellent from start to finish. My steak was cooked perfectly, with a perfect sear on the outside and juicy inside. It's also a great deal since you get two sides included! I went with the cauliflower gratin, which was super creamy with a cheesy top, and the truffle wild mushrooms that were incredibly flavorful. Even though they were busy, my wait for a table was less than five minutes. My server was attentive and acknowledged me within a minute of my being seated. The meal started with rolls that have a honey butter glaze on the outside. They are served with cinnamon butter. The butter itself adds to what would otherwise be an ordinary dinner roll. I ordered water and coffee. Kudos to my server for asking me if I wanted lemon with my water. That hardly ever happens. Coffee was strong, but not bitter. For my first side, I chose a house salad with Caesar dressing. I was informed that all salad dressings are made in-house. The tomatoes were fresh. They used a variety of lettuce, so it wasn't all iceberg lettuce. The croutons had just the right amount of crunch. In addition, the salad had a nice blend of shredded cheese, red cabbage, and carrots. For an appetizer, I ordered fried pickles. They were lightly battered but a little on the salty side. This is something I'm very picky about--I'd rather have other spices like pepper than salt on my food. They were still tasty. When I go back, however, I'll make it a point to order a different appetizer. The fried pickles are served with either a basic ranch dressing or a thousand island-based sauce that has some kick to it. Both are good, but I prefer the latter. I did have ample time to finish my salad before the 12-oz, Fort Worth Ribeye arrived. It was well-marbled and flavorful as advertised. I ordered it medium. My server asked me to check the steak and make sure it was how I wanted it. The steak was somewhat thin, so it's to their credit that it was cooked to perfection. The ribeye comes smothered in mushrooms and onions unless you request it otherwise. I asked for my onions on the side and that turned out to be a wise move. I also ordered a baked potato which was loaded with sour cream, butter, bacon bits, and cheese. I ordered my dessert to go. The server suggested apple pie. It comes with caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream. It's good, but it's also very sweet. Overall, I had an excellent meal and great service. Now, if they could just work on those small tabletops.

We were called for our seating but I was unable to tell who was seating us. It was actually awkward as so many people was walking by and none was signaling or stated to follow them. I looked back to the attended to asked who were we supposed to be following. She had to quickly scanned the area herself. When she pointed out who we were following to our table, then stated "she grabbing bread and utensils, she will be right with you." The lady did not have a pleasant face. Seemed like we were going to cause her an hassle to serve us, or she was forced to come to work. I understand that people have lives outside of work and I dont know what she have going on in her personal life. She walked us over to our seat and I kindly requested a table instead of a booth due to my mom's inability to navigate it. Needless to say, she created a scene and had attitude when I asked about a near by table. I offered to wait in the front until a table opened up although seeing some that were emptied. The MOD was kind enough to seat us at a different boothe that didn't have a step up, although that wasnt my request. I went with it nevertheless to say. Our Server: Ethan saved the night! I almost left because I hate the feeling of embarrassment or feeling like I am a bother to others. I told Ethan about our experience and he apologized. He was so soft spoken and seemed genuinely sweet. He gave us recommendations and checked on us frequently. I ordered a steak, however it was not done to my liking. Was overcooked more than I would of like and I actually didnt care for the mushrooms I added to it. I wrestled with the idea of sending it back due to earlier experience. I'm glad I brought it up with Ethan because he actually encouraged me to send it back because "he wanted me to enjoy my meal and have a great time." I'm glad I did, because the replacement was DELICIOUS! It was brought out by the manager and he waited at the table for me to cut into it to make sure it was just right. I'm glad I didn't leave because I ended up having a great time with my family and we all enjoyed our meals. The location is perfect especially if you are out shopping because it is located in a shopping center with plenty of parking!

While it's a steakhouse, they also serve great pizza. I overordered and had leftovers. However, I could not take the leftovers because I was staying at a motel. The next visit, I ordered their "Tucker Burger." More than a 1/2 pound of ground chuck fried on a grill. This burger is my favorite hamburger of all time. Little mustard, mayo, ketchup, onion, and pickle. Served with fries. Jules Winfield sums it up from Pulp Fiction: "That is a tasty burger." The ambiance of Tuckers is of course St. Louis centric. Overall, the food was good, but nothing compared to what I've heard people rave about over the years, so I was disappointed. I wasn't a fan of the pork chop. For being such a thick pork chop it was dry. The zucchini was slightly undercooked. Nothing really impressed. I'm glad I finally tried it but disappointed that it wasn't what I was hoping for.
