So I got the crab bisque and the wagyu burger ordered medium. The bisque was delicious and one of the best I've ever had. Maybe slightly too salty but still delicious. The burger was OK. When I first got it I took two bites and the meat was tough. I then took out my phone flashlight and looked inside. It was cooked completely through with no pink in sight. I'm not normally picky. If this happened at a mom and pop diner I would just continue to eat. However, for a $20 burger not to come out how I ask, especially when there are so many great burger options in Omaha, doesn't sit well with me. So I sent it back. I got a new burger and it was cooked properly. I would say it was very tasty and it's accoutrements suited it well. However there was too much bun (its a thick pretzel bun) and not enough meat. I had a burger at Blatt Beer and Table right around the corner. And there you can get a better burger for only $12. It has more flavor and more meat with better fries. So the food is tasty but I can't say I was impressed,especially with better, cheaper options so close by. read more

Best steakhouse we have ever ate at! My husband and I just ate here New Year's Eve for our anniversary. We made a reservation online, which it said there was only bar seating left, but we went ahead and reserved it anyways cuz there is regular tables in the bar area. We ended up showing up about 20mins early and they got us right in and ended up giving us regular seating! When we got seated they gave us an anniversary card with a complimentary dessert or champagne toast as well! On top of that our entrees were to die for, my husband ordered a ribeye with lobster mac n cheese and mushrooms, and I ordered the filet mignon with the brisket Mac n cheese and scalloped potatoes (The steaks came with a two side option which was another plus!) Amazing food! I shared the special which was bone in Filet with loaded baked potato and grilled asparagus. The filet literally melts in your mouth, seasoned well and very tender. Topped it off with Creme Brûlée which was also very good. The restaurant was packed on a Wednesday night and fairly loud. I would suggest if your trying to have a more intimate dinner request a quieter spot. We did but it was still very loud and hard to hear each other still. I took my parents here for several reasons as some of the better steakhouse options weren't available. Otherwise we would not have come here. Let's start with the appetizers, the oysters that we ordered were paltry, at best, unable to be scooped from the shell, they shredded as soon as you tried to pull them out. We were told these were the bigger of the two options and well they were probably penny-sized. We could've gotten better oysters at Shuck's Oyster house for cheaper, but that's not why we were there. When asked how they, the oysters, were, my dada even told the server how disappointing they were and that they didn't seem worth the price they were charging. Let's move to the entree's. Out of the four steak meals that we received, my 14oz was the only one cooked correctly, the others were all overcooked. My mother's we sent back and what we received was a steak that had been seared and then thrown in the convection oven. I believe a manager dropped it off and said "be careful, the plate is hot" first indication. Second indication, it was VERY spongy. When my mom cut it open it had a slight brown sear but 98% of it was rare, dark red rare, she had ordered it medium rare. My dad's and girlfriend's steaks were both overcooked, they also ordered it medium rare. We continued eating and about halfway through one of my sides I noticed what looked to be a hair, I brought it to the attention of my server, who upon returning to the table said the chef believed it to be a corn silk as I had ordered CREAMED CORN as my second side. The asparagus that my parents ordered were extremely smokey, but if you like that then, bully. Throughout the entire experience a manager never came over to our table to ask about our meal or anything. Even after all of this our server was able to take off one of our meals on a $300 dinner. This was unacceptable and I won't be returning or recommending J. Gilbert's to any, ANY, of my friends. Our server, Armando, was the highlight of the experience. read more

I dined here this evening based on both the good reviews of the food quality and the inconsistency of past service. All I can say is that both the food and the service was outstanding. We sat in the bar area, though the restaurant was about 85% full. The service was friendly, prompt and knowledgable. We had the beef carpaccio for an app, and for entries, the lamb and the bone in KC Strip -- both cooked to perfection. The atmosphere is chic, clean, with a great vib -- but most importantly still able to carry on a conversation without having to raise a voice. read more

Wonderful food and service. I had the steak and my wife had the salmon. Both were cooked to perfection.

I'd like to start with the pros. The ribeye was great , the New York strip was mediocre at best, and the pretzel crusted onion rings were perfect! Now for the not so ideal experience..... After making our reservation on line 3-4 weeks prior, I called The day prior to verify the time I had reservations for, and they could not find my reservation. Luckily they were able to "squeeze us in" The burnt ends Mac and cheese tasted like something straight out of a microwave. No flavor at all, and cold. The asparagus had zero flavor whatsoever and was also not even room temperature. There were a colony of gnats congregating on the dining side of kitchen window RIGHT AT OUR TABLE. I had to wave someone down to bring a knife to cut the steak And we were not offered the opportunity to pick our own steak knives, even though all of the guests around us were offered this service. Now it came as a huge let down as with having children it's not often I get out for a quality date without bringing the children. My husband wanted to spend this rare evening going to Sullivan's steak house, as we know for the SAME price we will NEVER leave disappointed. However, I convinced him we should give j Gilbert's a try. Boy was that a mistake and a huge letdown. I did mention it to the on duty supervisor and she offered me a drink "on the house". $160 meal and the only edible food was the steak. read more

We had dinner for our anniversary and were seated upstairs due to social distancing. Our waiter Patrick was outstanding! He was very friendly, upbeat and had a great understanding of the menu. He listened to our preferences and made perfect recommendations. We both had the 6oz filet I had the crab cake and my wife had the George's bay scallops. We started with crab bisque which was delicious and loaded with crab and my Cesar salad had a great dressing with plenty of anchovies, the way I like it. Everything was perfectly prepared and delicious. We've been to a lot of great steak houses and until J Gilberts my favorite filet was 801 chop house, the filet at j Gilbert's just took top billing. Not only is this a chain, but it's in a Marriott. So I really should have known what I was getting into, but based on a good review from the former Omaha World Herald food critic, I figured we'd give this place a shot. We were seated on time and our reservation was honored. Drinks were average. The "Whiskey Basil Smash" was just a whiskey sour with a basil leaf floating on top... lame. Bread was brought out with two little cups of whipped butter. We were told one of them was "pastrami butter". Um... what? Pastrami...butter? It was just another cup of regular butter so I'm not sure what that was all about. My husband's wedge salad came out with about a teaspoon of dressing on the side of the plate. We had to wait 5 minutes to get our server's attention and then wait another 5 minutes for additional dressing to be brought out. The caesar salad was average. Someone other than our server brought the salads and we weren't offered any fresh cracked pepper like the table next to us was. The most disappointing was the main course. Again, someone other than our server dropped our plates down on our table and walked away. I called her back stating we needed steak knives in order to eat. She brought out this huge tray of knives and just stood there with it staring at us while we awkwardly grabbed one. They coated my filet in some sort of rub that tasted like it had liquid smoke flavoring and sugar in it. I assume this is to give it a "wood fired" flavor without actually cooking it in a wood fired grill? A filet should be seasoned with coarse salt and pepper, and that's it. The seasoning detracted from the flavor and made it taste very artificial and unappetizing. They did cook it correctly to medium rare. The au gratin potatoes were swimming in grease. The asparagus was overcooked and yellow tinged, as were the brussel sprouts. Our server was awkward and absent most of the time. She came over to ask "how is everything" when she clearly could see we had not even taken a bite or cut into our steaks yet. I said "we haven't tried anything yet" and she never returned to check on the food. Dessert was fine. The coconut cake was good. The "vanilla bean" creme brulee didn't have any specks of actual vanilla bean in it. It's clearly just flavored with vanilla extract, I assume to cut costs and not have to actually use vanilla beans. This place is just... phony. Like it's cutting corners wherever it can and just doesn't know how to be a legitimate fine dining establishment. I didn't bother complaining about anything because I don't think there would have been a point and we were just over it. We just paid our bill and left. I won't ever be back and will never recommend this place. Experiences like this remind me why I avoid chain restaurants. read more

Fabulous. 4 of us went to dinner after a round of golf not knowing what to expect. Everyone of our dinners were so delicious. From the house salads to the filets cooked to perfection, the scallops were so very tender. My husband had the ribs to die for! Gluten allergy and keto requests happily accommodated. The food was served sizzling hot and in a timely manner. Ended with a cool dish of berries with cream , perfect for a keto diet and a summer evening. We had our Rehearsal Dinner here this month and it was fabulous! We worked with Matt and Chelsea--they were both terrific! In fact, every staff member we dealt with from servers to bartenders to managers were friendly, very helpful and excellent at their jobs. We chose their second catering menu option which gave our guests a wide variety of choices for each course. Everyone loved their food. We also had a separate bar and cocktail hour before. The space in the loft was the best we found in downtown Omaha for the 42 guests we had. It was big, airy, pretty, and they allowed us to bring in any decorations we wanted. Plus they had wonderful screens to accommodate our video. Since our out of town guests were at the Marriott, it could not have been more convenient. Since I was from out of town, the attentive and knowledgeable help I received from Matt and Chelsea was invaluable. I most highly recommend this place for a private event. Great atmosphere and it was in the Marriott so it was nice and close since I was staying there and it was cold and snowy! I ordered the lobster Cobb salad and at first I thought it was pretty good, but then the lobster started tasting pretty fishy so that was disappointing as I had to move all the lobster to the side...kind of defeats the purpose of a lobster Cobb salad. It said it had avocado, but I swear I only had one bite of avocado. It was just missing something. Not a ton of flavor...i will go again because they did have a nice menu and I loved the atmosphere.
