Excellent steak house. We had steaks, scallops, shrimp, dessert and wine. All great. Service was a little slow after they delivered the main course. We had a mix up on our sides and wanted dessert and both times had to wait for our server to come back. Expensive but worth it for a special occasion. read more

Nice airy restaurant that is part of the Marriott Hotel. Great friendly attentive service, but the food is mediocre at best. Started with pineapple martini, and a loaf of warm sourdough bread which were both tasty. Appetizer of calamari and carrots was not good...was not served hot, and tasted very fishy. Let my fellow diners "enjoy", which they did not. Stand out was the side dish of creamed corn...delicious. I ordered a Kansas City bone in strip steak, medium rare. Very thin, (Strip steaks are usually thick) over cooked, and had a funky taste...like it was marinated in smoky teriyaki. Also, did not have the mouthfeel of "prime grade beef". Took a few bites, and left the rest on my plate. Dessert was also not memorable...coconut cake with passion fruit sauce. Cake was extremely dry and flavorless. Tasted like it was days old and in the fridge for a while. I will not return. Spencer's is next door, and for my palate, consistently has the best steaks in Omaha. Started out with great appetizers (blue chips, pretzel crusted onion rings, oysters) and then had the 3 course option: started with the best wedge salad, filet with two sides, and delicious chocolate cake. The waitress, Amaya, was very accommodating to every request and had great suggestions. Not to mention the cocktails were great and the atmosphere was very comfortable. We had dinner at the bar on 11/17/19 and our server was Dave C. or so I think. The bartender was our waiter and can't remember what he said. Anyway, service was great, fun cocktails, 1/2 price wine on Sunday night on all bottles under $100. and food was excellent. Both of us had filets both were cooked just right & very tender. Both of us had the same sides which were some of the best mushrooms to go with a steak we have had in a restaurant. The other side was brussel sprouts and they were great. We are not potato people. We split the wedge salad and the blue cheese was different and outstanding...maybe a little horseradish was added? Music on Sundays I think 5 to 8 was very lovely. If only rating the food I'd give it at least a 4 star, but when including our experience it is all down hill from there. Bread was the best, but our ribs, Lobster, and Salmon were a close second. This is hands down the best place to get a steak in Omaha so far!! Not to mention, the service was AMAZING. Ashley was our server and she was so knowledgeable, helpful and friendly! We had a filet combo with scallops, mushroom risotto, and Brussels sprouts and the ribeye, crab cake, fries, and asparagus and everything was delicious. Creme brûlée and cheesecake were also perfect. Had a long flight and needed dinner. The food here is GREAT and service as well! We were promptly seated and greeted by our waiter. We ordered the three course meal. The soup and salads were divine as was the meals. The best crab cakes I ever had! Not too little crab like some places do and fill them with fillers. It was the perfect amount of lumped crab! Asparagus cooked perfectly and the most tender steak I ever tasted- and I know a good steak. I believe this is a standard for this place and our experience wasn't unusual. Dined with a group of 10. Great food. Service good for the most part. We ordered a bottle of wine that our waiter opened and served. Luckily it was good wine but not the bottle we ordered. When I brought this to our waiters attention he just kind of blew it off. I added shrimp to my steak order but didn't receive it. But, I also did not remind the waiter after we were served as I already had too much food. All of us said we would go back again. read more

Had reservations on a Friday before the Eric Church concert. Evidently they can take a reservation but don't hold them on big event nights. We didn't get seated until 45 minutes past our reservation time even though we arrived early. Even ran into some friends who were there that were seated who didn't have reservations. We weren't the only party to experience this that night, probably at least 6 other parties in the same situation. When we tried to get a drink at the bar we were ignored, this was when we met other parties with the same problem. We brought it up to what we were told was a manager and she just looked at us like what are we complaining about. When we were finally seated the waiter did an awesome job getting us our food, we did only order appetizers and were rushed to eat so we could get to the concert on time, so we really didn't get to enjoy it. This had nothing to do with our waiter, I would give him 5 stars for attention to us in a terrible position he was put in. Don't think I'll be going back. Went back for round 2, I have to say it was a better experience. We were there before another concert and when we arrived there were quite a few people waiting to be checked in. Glad to report that management let customers know that if you didn't have a reservation then the only open seating was at the bar. This made checking in for our reservation easier. I was greeted by Carolyn - fun charming personality- who introduced me to Megan, the most amazing bartender and right sized conversationalist. We had a private room reserved (sat 8 comfortably) for a birthday party. The food was great but things went down hill when it was time to begin the soup and salad course. Two of us didn't get our soup/salad until after everyone else was entirely done with theirs. Then the dinner came out and one of the steaks that was supposed to be prepared at a medium temperature came out at a well-done temperature. I pointed it out to the waiter who then offered to take care of it and the shy recipient of the over-cooked steak didn't want to draw a lot of attention to herself so she said she would keep it -- He should have let her keep it and then brought out another one that was properly cooked. We requested salt and pepper and it took 10 minutes for those to arrive. The waiter also didn't refill waters until it was too late. I believe this is all due to the fact that they spread their waitstaff too thin. I wouldn't recommend the au gratin potatoes as they were clearly purchased frozen in one of those tin pans from a food service company. They were very watery and lacked flavor. The onion rings appetizers were great! Drinks were great as well. Our total tab was around $900.00, but the service and food quality was closer to the $400 price point. read more

Our first time at J. Gilbert's was about 3 weeks ago. It was honestly one of the best meals I've ever eaten and I've eaten a lot of good meals. It was so good I couldn't wait to come back. My wife and I were excited to visit this new addition to Omaha--even more so with the emails offering discounts as part of their grand opening. We arrived on time and were pleased that they offered complimentary valet service for our vehicle. We were seated promptly and the atmosphere is contemporary/upscale. Very nice, in my opinion. But from then on it was ok at best. I had seen earlier reviews raving about the wait staff and I will agree that they are on top of things from the word "go", without overdoing it and interrupting constantly. However, our waiter did make a comment that was snarky, making us feel temporarily uncomfortable. Also, my wife and I both ordered a 6 oz. filet. While hers was tender, it was dry. We both also had a side that came out room temperature. For the money, we could have had a better meal elsewhere. read more

Visited last night for a special date night. Man, were we surprised! This might have been one of the most wonderful dining experiences my boyfriend and I have ever had! We were impressed as soon as we walked through the door. The atmosphere is phenomenal; cozy, calm colors, spacious, no echos, and perfectly lit. Our waitress was top-notch. She was able to answer all of our questions (we had a lot), and did so with a smile. They have a great wine selection and she was even able to help me decide on a wine! We both decided to try the Prix-fixe menu, each coming with a choice of soup or salad, entree, and dessert. I went with the $45 level and selected the crab bisque for my starter. Everything from the presentation to the taste was phenomenal. For my entree, the 4oz combo with scallops, lobster Mac and cheese, and their house green beans. Again, was NOT disappointed. My steak was cooked perfectly and the sides were decent size and unique flavors. My boyfriend got the Cesar salad for his starter and again, it was great! His entree was from the $55 level, the lamb rack with mushroom risotto and green beans. The Demi sauce on those babies was to die for! Neither of us were able to finish all of our entrees due to the hearty starters and bread they bring out. By this time we were pretty full and happy...and then I remembered we had dessert coming. I had no idea where I was going to put it but knew I definitely wanted a bite! I selected the cheesecake and boyfriend got the creme brulee. Again, we were not let down! I can confidently say I have found the best cheesecake in existence, and yes, I eat a lot of them. There is a cake crust instead of the boring graham cracker everyone else uses. The cake seems to enhance the density and vanilla flavor. The texture is very New York-style which I love. There was a strawberry and orange coulis on top that offered a welcomed acidity to help cut through the creaminess without being overpowering. The creme brûlée was equally as wonderful. The melted sugar crust was of perfect thickness, there were visible vanilla beans throughout, and the texture was spot on. A few fresh raspberries atop were the perfect accessories. All-in-all we cannot recommend this place enough. I know we will be again many times for special occasions. We have been to most of the high dollar steak places in town and this sides-included chain gives each one a run for their money. read more

I am always fairly critical when I go to a new restaurant that calls themselves a fine dining establishment, but I have to say that I was impressed by J. Gilberts. Our server, Jake, was knowledgeable and friendly. He took us through the whole menu when we first arrived and this was very helpful in making our decisions. I appreciate it when servers go the extra mile to make sure a dinner is special and he definitely did that. The food was great and so were the drinks. Will be back very soon! read more

I wish I could give this half a star. I'm not a yelp user but I added it to give a review of this restaurant. We had a reservation at 6 pm that we booked days in advance, we got to the restaurant at 5:45 and were told to wait 15-20min. We decided to go to the bar for a drink, not worried by our reservation, after 15 minutes of waiting to be helped at the bar, we got frustrated and went to the hostess. We explained to the hostess we'd been waiting and our reservations were at 6pm. She told us it would be 25min or more until we had a table. By the time we got to our table we were very hungry, it was 7:30, the service was terrible and the food average. We were all extremely disappointed in the service and food. We tried to put in our review at "open table" the app, where we booked, and found that they deleted our reservation and said we canceled our reservation at 10am. Clearly not a reliable restaurant. Good luck going there, maybe get 2 reservations! read more
