First time here so im giving two stars in case it was an off night. My wife and I were staying at the marriott coonnected to this restaurant and after reading reviews, we were excited to give it a try. Very disappointed on several fronts. First, front of house needs work. I worked in restaurants and very high end steak houses(Morton's) and learned that as you sit table to spread them out accordingly. Don't sit two tops next to tables of 6 or more. A couple looking to have a nice dinner out doesn't want to hear the party going on next to them. When we arrived we were asked to sit in the bar. We politely declined and went to the dining room. We were told no problem as they were not expected to be busy at all. Very little reservations on the books. There are probably five tables being used at this point. They escort us to our table and try to sit us at the two top in the corner. Now look, I'm a bigger guy and I'll admit I could loose a few. But nonetheless I asked if we could sit somewhere else. She turns around and says "I'm not sure where. We are reserved on a lot of these." Ummm ten minutes ago there was no one. Now there is someone. I get it. You sit people with different thoughts in mind for waiters. Making sure everyone has a shot at some tips that night. But come on! You weren't busy and were not going to be. Help me out. So she sits us at a table in the middle of the room. We ordered off the Prix Fixe menu. The bread was out of this world. Pastrami butter was unique and I liked it but my wife did not. Then keep in mind restaurant is empty. A 6 top of guys comes in. They sit them right on top of us on the left. No big deal. There were 20 other tables open at least but ok. Then 8 more guys come in having brought drinks from the outside I assumed they were off to a fun night. They were asked to take the outside beers out and leave them elsewhere. Once the couple of them chugged the beers, guess where they get sat? On my right...now, I do not begrudge anyone a good time. More the merrier. However, see the first rule I learned at Morton's. Be mindful of seating. The entire right side of the restaurant is open. They now have sat a 6 seat and 8 seat. Party tables around a two seat. My wife and I could not talk anymore. I could barely hear her. Our food comes and the Mac and cheese was not cheesy and more watery. Honestly, it was bland. Steaks were very good. Wood fried. So if you like that taste. I do. My wife doesn't. Our vegetable sides were cold. Like they had been sitting out too long. The dessert was ok. Nothing to be excited about. Carrot Cake was bland and dry. The chocolate cake was very good if you like a rich chocolate taste. Very rich. Our waiter was good and do not begrudge him at all in this process. Also, final note, change the music selection. The vibe I get is classy steakhouse. The music cheapens it. The doo wop classics are always fun but can overpower the conversation of the tables. I'm sincerely impressed since I have left reviews with constructive criticism before and no one has ever reached out. Roland Day might be one of the best managers of a restaurant in Omaha. It's ok to have a bad day. My wife and I will go back at least once more to see if it's changed at all. But any restaurant's management that reaches out and cares like Mr. Day is going to be just fine. read more

This place has some of the best steaks I have ever eaten and I've been to my share of top notch steakhouses. It's nice that the sides are included so you don't break the bank. This is a great place for a date, anniversary, business lunch/dinner, or when you just want a great steak. Its not my favorite but it's definitely near the top. I'll be back. read more

First time trying this place and it was delicious! I had the 4oz filet with scallops, green beans and burnt ends Mac and cheese. Steak was perfectly medium rare and sides were delicious. It took 15 minutes to greet us but as soon as the manager noticed, we had great service after. They even took $25 off our bill for the inconvenience. For a chain restaurant is was totally impressed. Went with my parents husband and friend to celebrate my birthday. The steak was cooked to perfection and well seasoned. Also indulged in the crab cakes and was surprised with a nice piece of cheesecake. The service was a bit touchy. We still had are super large menus when our appetizers came which made it awkward. People would always tell me to go have steak when visiting Omaha. After 4 trips to Omaha I was starting to get very skeptical about weather or not there was good steak here. After trying a number of different places that presumable served good steak I always found myself disappointed thinking that the steak back home was so much better. J.Gilberts has finally proved to me that you can get good steak in Omaha. We came here on a sunday night rather late with a party of at least 30 since we were here on a business trip with our collegues. The staff here was very accommodating with such a large party considering that the kitchen was going to close in an hr of us being seated. The best part yet was that bottles of wine under $100 were all half price so we ordered like 8 bottles of wine which ended up ranging to about 40-50 dollars which is very reasonable. My wife and I both ordered the rib eye steak. The steak was cooked perfectly and was well seasoned. No complains here. Everyone at our table loved the food. Staff was great too, it was a really good dining experience. If I could give 4.5 stars I would. read more

Great ambiance. Seafood was okay. The shrimp seemed slightly overdone and the oysters were very small without much meat. I'd say stick to the meat here. Great cocktails though and the carrot cake was best I've ever had. read more

I went to J Gilbert's before a concert across the street. There was no wait which I was super pleased with because of such a large event night. I give it 4 stars for some little service issues. The food was divine. Amazing flavor. We had a Caesar salad that we spilt which is plenty big and shocked that we both had what seemed like starter salads in size after splitting. They did not have bread baked until our entrees came which seems like something that shouldn't happen at a high end restaurant, but still not that big of a deal. We then both ordered steaks with their golden mashed potatoes and asparagus. The only issue with these were that they had clearly plated early and the potatoes had sat under the warming light because they had gotten a hard outer layer on them. They also switched our medium and medium rare steaks so I had gotten through quite a bit before I noticed it wasn't the right one. (Thank goodness my date was chill and didn't mind medium rare for half his steak). The food is delicious, but for the price I do expect closer to perfection. This is me being picky though and I would happily return for another dinner! read more

This place looks like it's brand new and I've only been here once. My other disclaimer is that the only time I was here was on Thanksgiving, and both me and my dad ordered the prixe fix menu, which can be inherently risky, as it is hard to make that much of the same food and not have a dip in quality. That all being said, i found this place very disappointing. The menu was very pricey and the food was not great. The turkey that they gave us was all dark meat and gristle, no white meat included. The mashed potatoes and stuffing were fair, but those are admittedly hard to mess up. The green beans had toasted pecans and caramelized onions were actually a highlight, which I feel is a pretty low bar. The sweet potatoes were just regular cooked sweet potatoes with a slightly sweet glaze. Obviously, this place is a steak house, so hopefully this doesn't speak to their quality in general, but based on what I experienced, I would not go back. read more

While the food was outstanding, the service left a lot to be desired when three of us ate there tonight. First, the steaks: MMMMM! They absolutely know how to cook them right. All three had small filets, cooked three different ways (including Pittsburgh rare) and they were perfection! The vegetable sides were excellent and the bread, fresh and tasty. Now for the service and the two point deduction: 1) The waiter spilled wine when pouring one of our glasses, and walked away without doing anything to clean it up. He came back shortly with a napkin, sopped up most of the spilled wine and put a little bit more in the glass that had been spilled on. 2) The meals came out in spurts. Two got our steaks, then the third, the female of the group, got hers a few minutes later. 3) Repeat #2 for dessert. Two got gelato, then a few minutes later the female (once again) got her creme brulee a few minutes later. 4) One of the sides was supposed to have pecans, but none were found. When we brought it to the waiter's attention, a few minutes later he came out with a little bowl of pecans. It wasn't that busy, people, and you should be able to plan around when to serve a party of three at similar times! Your food and prices are excellent, so improved service would really benefit your restaurant. read more

I ordered a filet that was mushy and I found the potatoes were overly rich and salty. I also wasn't a fan of the crab cake I ordered but I don't order that often so it may be right for a crab lover. We came here for my boyfriend's birthday. They have complimentary valet out front which makes it nice since it's right across from the Chi and parking was a little crazy on a Friday night in the area. We had made a reservation for 8, and checked in a few minutes early. We were sat promptly and our waiter got to us right away. He was very nice and walked us through the menu and their specials. We both started with the Caesar salad, which was very good. Then bone in rib eyes. I ordered the poblano au gratin potatoes and creamed corn with bacon for my sides while my boyfriend did the asparagus and burnt ends mac and cheese. He also added the maple bourbon shrimp to his steak. Everything was delicious! The burnt ends mac and cheese might have been my favorite side though! Next time I would get that as one of my 2 for sure so I could have the whole thing! They also have a selection of compound butters to top your steak with, next time I would try one of these options. The steak was really great without it though. Very smoky flavor and cooked just right. Our server called our car up from valet for us, which made it nice and minimized the waiting time for us. I went to J. Gilbert's to celebrate my birthday with my boyfriend. I ordered a medium rare steak and specifically said I wanted the steak to be pink but have no excessive blood. My steak came back well done and I hardly ended up eating any of it. I would have asked for a new one but our waitress that was serving us you could tell that she was annoyed with us for whatever reason. We were polite when ordering and said thank you whenever she came back to our table. When my boyfriend and I ordered dessert we forgot we wanted it to go and he had then asked her when she came if we could have the dessert to go and that he was sorry and she rolled her eyes and didn't even say anything and walked away. I will not be going back there again. Customer service at a "nice restaurant" like that should be served with a smile and respect at all times. this is right next to our marriott hotel. u literally take a few steps and you're there. the place says dress classy. but no u don't have to. my friend ordered the prefix menu (crab bisque, lobster tail, mash potatoes, asparagus, dessert) for $58 (this whole order was good). I ordered top sirloin (comes w/ two sides) I picked lobster mac & cheese (a little dry, can be creamier) and cream corn bacon which was good. waitress was friendly. overall good experience. read more

Very under impressed tonight. Ordered a dozen oysters and they were embarrassingly small, surprised they even had them on the menu. Then my wife's medium rare steak was overcooked and when we asked for a corrected steak, it was barely seared and almost raw. Mine was medium well instead of medium rare but I ate it. Had to return the au gratin potatoes for a potential hair in it. But what really galls me is the manager never took the time to come over and express an apology. Yes, they comped one steak, but I dropped almost $300 for dinner. Our son's UNO graduation dinner, my birthday, and Mother's Day special night out was not special at all. Best steakhouse we went to in Omaha and it was cheaper than the others as well. We were staying at the Marriot and asked the worker checking us in where was a good place to eat for steak. He surprisingly said J Gilbert's right in here. Usually I get suspicious of a worker reccomending their own restaurant, so I checked up reviews on Yelp and was reassured it was a good place to at least try. Got the prefixed meal with ceaser salad, ribeye, and creme brulee. Ceaser salad was big enough for 2 and that was great with fresh lemon drizzed over. The steak was done right and have no complaints on it. The creme brulee was also done right. Service was on point as well. Keep in mind this place was around $20 cheaper than the other steak places we went while on this trip. read more

My husband and I wanted to have a night to ourselves from our kids and decided on this brand new restaurant. It was amazing! We came through the door from the hotel and there was this magnificent girl standing there named Kristen. She was the best dressed host I ever seen and so young! Well spoken sixteen year old with a contagious smile! She walked us up to the front desk and offered to take our coats. Impressive. Now to the food... heaven in our mouths. I had the Penne and my husband stuck with the lobster Mac n Cheese because it was so filling! We ordered more for our children and next time we will be bringing them! Ron stopped by to talk to us and he was a delight! Kristen came back around at the end of our meal too! I asked her more questions about the restaurant and the people she worked for and she only had amazing things to say. It was nice seeing her as we entered and left. Full disclosure: I'm a big fan of the J. Gilbert's in Glastonbury, CT so I was anxiously awaiting the Omaha opening. Had a very early Sunday dinner today and the food was perfect. The Maryland crab bisque soup is poured table-side with ample amount of crab. The beef filets and scallops were cooked exactly as ordered. The sides didn't fail to deliver either: mashed potatoes, asparagus and Brussel sprouts (thank you for keeping them recognizably green and not charred black like some area restaurants!). Even the hot sourdough bread was fresh and delish. Half price wine bottles on Sunday made it even nicer. Too full for dessert we took it to go and it was amazing carrot cake and 7 layer coconut cake. Ambience is relaxed and yet upscale. Nice bar area; a definite must if your looking for dinner before a show at CHI or just need a good steak dinner out. Special kudos to our server Caroline who was very attentive, funny and could easily handle a couple of transplanted east-coasters. She was just great. We will definitely be back again, and again, and again....... read more
