Let me be absolutely clear: Alligator Alcatraz is a concentration camp. It's not quirky. It's not controversial. It's a state-sanctioned site of cruelty and abuse, built on stolen land in the Everglades to cage human beings--many of whom are simply seeking safety. People inside are denied basic hygiene. They're being bitten by bugs in tents with no protection. They're served food with maggots. Lights are kept on 24/7 to break them. And your staff? Were laughing. About that. In public. Stopped for a quick brunch with my family on a Sunday. Their service was so friendly and made accommodations for my 1 year old. Inside you will find it is a diner with Elvis themed decor. The inside seating is small but we had no problem being seated. I ordered the Greek burger and it was AMAZING! Juicy beef topped with feta cheese and toppings. Wife and I stopped here on a whim the other day. It's a small quaint diner with a pretty cool Elvis/1950's theme on the inside. Staff is typical "veteran diner waitress" they were all very friendly and attentive which was great and definitely know the menu back and forth which was nice. Our waitress did mess up on my order though as I ordered the Irish omelet and instead they brought the Irish Benedict. I didn't want to say anything but they insisted they would fix it which they did and our waitress was very apologetic. Definitely was an honest mistake but still made my first experience there not as great. Food was decent, nothing to write home about. My wife got the pumpkin pancakes and she thought they'd be sweeter than they were. I'd come back to this place. Nelson's Diner is one my favorite little diners in Pompano. I'm a regular here for breakfast and I've also stopped in for lunch. You can order eggs, bacon & grits (or toast) and a cup of coffee for a reasonable price. Bacon was crispy - just the way I like it. There is a morning rush but the wait staff are on top of it with drink refills and check-ins. My boyfriend enjoyed their chicken fried steak and biscuits & gravy. And we tried several places in the Pompano/Ft. Lauderdale area to find a good gravy. I also had a turkey club for lunch. It was huge and delicious with layers of toast, tomato, lettuce and bacon. The club sandwich is served with hot, crispy French fries (or tots). I'd definitely recommend Nelson's Diner! read more

I came in to Nelson's diner after a walk for breast cancer at the Pompano Beach park nearby. The restaurant is located at a plaza where another favorite restaurant of mine is. Surprisingly enough I've never noticed Nelson's before. The diner it's not very big, but and has a few tables to sit outside. It is decorated like an oldie's diner, with red booths and all. It was actually quite busy when we came, we had to wait a few minutes to be seated. Service was very friendly and they always kept on top of things such as coffee refills and whatever else we might've need. I found the breakfast menu to be not that extensive for a diner, but that could be a good thing because there is less to think about. I opted to have the eggs Benedict with the hollandaise sauce on the side. The actual eggs Benedict were OK nothing to cry home about, and the sauce wasn't very flavorful so I ended up not using it at all. The hash browns, however were delicious, very crispy and cooked to perfection. Hi also like the fact they had flavor creamers to add to the coffee which I don't see a whole lot these days. All in all it was a good experience. I would definitely come here again, but I wouldn't get the eggs Benedict. Service is very good and everyone he's quite friendly. read more

I was immediately greeted by a friendly server. On the walls are all different kinds of famous Memorabilia and dedications to famous people. In one corner, there's a section dedicated to Elvis. The tables are retro and bright, red along with booths. It reminded me of a 50's style diner. I checked in on Yelp and I was able to get a free cup of coffee. For breakfast I ordered 2 eggs over easy with bacon and grits. It came with rye toast. The grits were really good and cooked perfectly. My mom ordered the exact same thing and she loved hers too. My bf ordered 2 eggs over easy with bacon and corned beef hash. He ordered whole wheat toast. He throughly enjoyed his breakfast. The coffee was delicious and hot. We went here for dinner and had a good experiences, so we decided to try it out for breakfast. Unlike dinner, we were rather disappointed and it mainly had to do with the service. While I appreciated them telling us it would be quite a while before we'd get out meals, I am wondering why they'd keep taking mobile orders rather than make in-house customers their priority. I witnessed many people complaining about the time to get their food, and I caught a server rolling her eyes as she walked away from one table. An older server yelled once at a man to "move!" while near the kitchen. As another man was walking toward the exit, seemingly not fast enough for this same server, she made a visible mockery of his slow pace. The service was off putting and downright rude. We get you're swamped, but don't make a mockery of paying customers. As to the food, the avocados were past their prime. The omelet was rather tasteless. I ordered the country eggs benedict, which is two scrambled eggs over a biscuit topped with sausage gravy. It was good, but I found myself having to add salt and pepper, and I never do that....so it needed a little more flavor. The price was right at $8.49. The atmosphere of this place is really cute, with Elvis memorabilia and other music items. It also seemed really clean. We had to wait a while for our food to be delivered, which was fine, because we weren't in a rush. However, if I was starving, it may have been questionable, because the place wasn't overly crowded and they seemed to have enough staff.
