This is an update to an earlier review when I downgraded them from a 4 to a 3 star. I'm revising them down to a 2-star. This was a beloved local diner that has turned. We went on Sunday and ordered the chicken fried steak, hash browns and eggs. The grease was old. Everything tasted like old grease. The food was greasy. Some of your staff and regulars were loudly laughing and bragging about their visit to Alligator Alcatraz. They talked about buying merch. About how "wild" it was. About how fun it all seemed. Let me be absolutely clear: Alligator Alcatraz is a concentration camp. It's not quirky. It's not controversial. It's a state-sanctioned site of cruelty and abuse, built on stolen land in the Everglades to cage human beings--many of whom are simply seeking safety. People inside are denied basic hygiene. They're being bitten by bugs in tents with no protection. They're served food with maggots. Lights are kept on 24/7 to break them. And your staff? Were laughing. About that. In public. So no--I won't be back. Not unless there's a clear, public statement from ownership condemning that behavior and confirming that the employee involved no longer works there. Great breakfast menu. Extensive. Restaurant adds their own touches that make each dish unique to them. I had maple sausage with my honey butter pancake. I had a grilled honey butter biscuit and an omelet style egg. The most different dish I had was the Açaí Bowl. I saw it first at another table. My favorite diner in the area! The servers are caring, efficient, and delightful -- always checking in about any needs, from coffee to hot sauce. I always go for either the "Two for the Road" or the "Three to Get Ready," which include generously-sized pancakes of several varieties. The banana nut and seasonal pumpkin pecan pancakes are awesome, and I also appreciate the availability of both milk and flavored creamers for the coffee. Not every local restaurant is great. This one baffles me that it's so busy. I guess these people have never had a decent omelet, but looking around, Noone was ordering omelets. I now know why. It was lackluster at best and wet. Cheddar cheese usually has a flavor. And so does ham. I couldn't tell. But the raw onions sure did. I've always had onions sautéed before. Best to ask next time. Stopped for a quick brunch with my family on a Sunday. Their service was so friendly and made accommodations for my 1 year old. Inside you will find it is a diner with Elvis themed decor. The inside seating is small but we had no problem being seated. I ordered the Greek burger and it was AMAZING! Juicy beef topped with feta cheese and toppings. Fries were cooked perfect to a nice crisp which I appreciate. My husband ordered the omelette with hash browns and a biscuit. He gave it a 9/10. Wife and I stopped here on a whim the other day. It's a small quaint diner with a pretty cool Elvis/1950's theme on the inside. Staff is typical "veteran diner waitress" they were all very friendly and attentive which was great and definitely know the menu back and forth which was nice. Our waitress did mess up on my order though as I ordered the Irish omelet and instead they brought the Irish Benedict. I didn't want to say anything but they insisted they would fix it which they did and our waitress was very apologetic. Definitely was an honest mistake but still made my first experience there not as great. Food was decent, nothing to write home about. My wife got the pumpkin pancakes and she thought they'd be sweeter than they were. I'd come back to this place. My real complaint is administrative. They charge a 3% surcharge to use a credit card. That is, in my opinion, nonsense. These days credit cards are a fact of life. Nelson's Diner is one my favorite little diners in Pompano. I'm a regular here for breakfast and I've also stopped in for lunch. You can order eggs, bacon & grits (or toast) and a cup of coffee for a reasonable price. Bacon was crispy - just the way I like it. There is a morning rush but the wait staff are on top of it with drink refills and check-ins. My boyfriend enjoyed their chicken fried steak and biscuits & gravy. And we tried several places in the Pompano/Ft. Lauderdale area to find a good gravy. I also had a turkey club for lunch. It was huge and delicious with layers of toast, tomato, lettuce and bacon. I came in to Nelson's diner after a walk for breast cancer at the Pompano Beach park nearby. The restaurant is located at a plaza where another favorite restaurant of mine is. Surprisingly enough I've never noticed Nelson's before. The diner it's not very big, but and has a few tables to sit outside. It is decorated like an oldie's diner, with red booths and all. It was actually quite busy when we came, we had to wait a few minutes to be seated. Service was very friendly and they always kept on top of things such as coffee refills and whatever else we might've need. I found the breakfast menu to be not that extensive for a diner, but that could be a good thing because there is less to think about. I opted to have the eggs Benedict with the hollandaise sauce on the side. The actual eggs Benedict were OK nothing to cry home about, and the sauce wasn't very flavorful so I ended up not using it at all. The hash browns, however were delicious, very crispy and cooked to perfection. Hi also like the fact they had flavor creamers to add to the coffee which I don't see a whole lot these days. The tables are retro and bright, red along with booths. It reminded me of a 50's style diner. I checked in on Yelp and I was able to get a free cup of coffee. For breakfast I ordered 2 eggs over easy with bacon and grits. It came with rye toast. The grits were really good and cooked perfectly. My mom ordered the exact same thing and she loved hers too. My bf ordered 2 eggs over easy with bacon and corned beef hash. He ordered whole wheat toast. He throughly enjoyed his breakfast. The coffee was delicious and hot.
