If I could save one person from the horrible experience I had with this business, and Lindy and Calvin, by writing this review, then it is worth my time. I always want to support local businesses, so I ordered a door with them. They never delivered the door, it took 4 months after the promised delivery date, to get our deposit back, and at the end of at all, Lindy became angry and abusive, as if we had done something wrong. We repeatedly asked, in person, and on the phone for our door or our deposit back... Lindy and Calvin's choice. We waited patiently for 6 months. Not one single time did Lindy ever call us with an update about our order, although she promised no less than 10 times to contact the manufacturer and get back to us. I even offered to call the manufacturer myself if it would be helpful. I have to guess there is something else amiss at this business, when people like ourselves who want to support local business are treated so very poorly. It was really shocking and upsetting how Lindy treated us, when after 6 months we had done nothing but asked for our door to be delivered or our money returned. It took us a couple of days to shake it off. The way we were dealt with by Lindy actually hurt my heart. So, take your business elsewhere if for no other reasons than, 1) you might actually need a product delivered to you in a timely fashion. 2) you are not up for an abusive and emotional battle with the owners of a local business you are trying to support and give money to. Actually, zero stars for Calvin. I couldn't agree more with the multiple other negative Yelp reviews of JR Hardware Sash & Door. We moved into a house in La Canada that had five Milgard windows installed by JR Sash & Door. Of the forty windows in the house, these five windows in two rooms, the only ones installed by J R Sash Door, literally have pieces flying off them when you open or close them. A window in my teenage daughter's front bedroom facing the street spontaneously falls open in the middle of the night. The window fell open again the morning before Calvin arrived, and was broken when he saw it. Calvin told me I was "operating them wrong." I have a Masters Degree in Architecture; I think I know how to open and close a window. And again, out of 40 windows in the house, the J R Sash & Door installed windows are the only ones that are defective. I was hoping that Calvin would man up, care about his Company's reputation, reach out to his contacts at Milgard, and help me get these obviously defective windows fixed. Instead, Calvin tells me (I'm not kidding) "I don't have time for you. I'm installing fifteen hundred windows right now." Hmmmm. This statement gave me pause, because I worked as a Project Engineer on the Walt Disney Concert Hall, and I don't think we had fifteen hundred windows in that entire Project. So I asked him, where is this project that you are installing fifteen hundred windows right now? He told me, "None of your business." This is what Calvin and JR Hardware Sash & Door should get . . . I have never in my life dealt with such apathy and disregard for customer service until recently trying to navigate a Fleetwood Door warranty inquiry. We spent over $40K on our 8-door Fleetwood back in 2016. It was purchased through JR Hardware, Sash & Door. We love our Fleetwood. However, the weatherstripping has pulled away from or ripped around the door frames in about 4-5 different locations (its a 24' wide 8-paneled door). In my journey to determine if this is covered by warranty, I have contacted Fleetwood's customer service directly. They say they cannot process a warranty claim until I can furnish the quote# that they would have given to JR, HW Sash & Door at the time of the transaction. This quote# is nowhere on any of my paperwork but it is necessary to validate the actual transaction (model#, date of purchase, etc). They were unable to look it up on their end because JR Hardware, Sash & Door is NO LONGER one of their certified channel partners (shocker)! I called on 8-13-18 and spoke with Jake, who took my info and said that Calvin would have to call me back later that day. After no response, I called again on 8-23-18 and spoke with Jake again. He said, "I was just speaking with Lindy about this and she's going to have to look into this. She will call u back." After not getting any follow-up call, I tried again this morning (3rd time's the charm, right?). When I called this morning, Lindy answered, not Jake - I thought to myself: "Yay! I've got Lindy on the line. All I need is this simple 6-digit quote # that they would have received from Fleetwood at time of order. Finally!" WRONG. After a brief and very frustrating conversation, Lindy hung up on me. Unbelievable. I have since called Fleetwood to escalate and they will be chasing this down on their end. Worst customer experience ever. read more

What a bummer. I had a great guy come out to do an estimate. He seemed with it and ready to do the job we needed. After several phone calls left to them and weeks upon weeks of waiting to hear back I have still not ordered any doors. Now I'm ticked and got another $1,000 dollars tacked on to the same job because it wasn't added at the beginning. Forget it. Now I gotta go through this again with a new company. Yikes! Had a bad experience today on the phone with the lady who answered. Asked for someone to come by my house to take a look at a couple of windows and doors that need to be replaced in my garage. She told me that I needed to come by the showroom first to pick out what I want. What happened to the good old days when someone would come by with brochures and explain what they can do and what options are available? I've had work done by JR in the past and was very happy their work but I guess those days are gone. Take your business elsewhere. JR isn't interested in quality customer service anymore. Don't ever ever do business here. 6 months later, we don't have a door and they won't refund our deposit. They are crooks.

We were referred to JR through a family member and we had them install a new front door and frame and everything. The gentleman who came out to do our quote was incredibly professional and knowledgable. He explained things so thoroughly and didn't do the annoying sales pitch that we got from some other contractors. The process with JR was incredibly simple. Pick out your front door and hardware and schedule a date. The installers showed up on time, they were also professional and they didn't leave the entryway a mess after. Next step... After living with the plain white door for a few weeks, we decided to have it painted red. JR referred us to Kevin Morrissey, painter extraordinaire! This guy was great, he communicated so well with us, when I called him with questions, he took his time to explain everything and when I was confused at Do It Center, he met me there and saved me from buying the wrong shade of red. He spent two days painting our front door, making sure that the red color was solid and rich (apparently red is a very difficult color to paint). He was perfectly pleasant and cleaned up after he was done working each day. Overall, we had a fantastic experience with JR. The only reason I give four stars is because it took a while for our door and hardware to come in and I, like many others, want things NOW! In all fairness, I understand that they were waiting on the supplier. We love our new front door and will definitely recommend and use JR in the future. THANK YOU!!! read more

Owner not truthful. I came home from work and was on time for my estimate - by my cell phone, car clock and home clock - but when I got to the door the owner Calvin had left a card claiming he was already here miraculously at the same time I was staring at his card (I guess he knows how to time travel). OK, so people make mistakes, but when I called JR's office from my home number exactly at my appt time to report he could not have been there at the right time because the right time was now, they contacted him and he apparently told them I was wrong and he wasn't coming back anytime soon despite the evidence. I left work early for this appt - very disappointed and would not recommend - wasted my afternoon. You don't want a contractor who thinks he's right regardless of the evidence and denies, denies, denies. That's a bad situation. Going elsewhere.... read more

Wonderful on the front end -- giving estimate, completing sale, and finishing installation. Horrible when follow-up servicing was requested. Over the years I've had all of my windows replaced by JR Hardware, and even several closet doors and a screen door. The interior and screen doors were done in early 2017. I contacted them approximately August 2017 when I thought the screen door started sagging and catching on the bottom. I first visited the shop and spoke to Lindy (Calvin's sister); she took my name and number and said that Calvin would call to schedule the follow-up. When after a week I didn't hear from anyone, I called. This time a male employee said that Lindy wasn't available, but after I explained why I was calling, he took my name and number and said he would pass it along to her. When I again received no call-back, I again called the shop and had the same experience with the male employee who answered the phone -- Lindy not available, I explained situation, he took name and phone number. I never was contacted by Calvin, Lindy, or anyone from JR Hardware. This was three attempts to schedule the repair. Life interrupted further attempts to have the scraping screen door checked until late October 2017. Again I visited JR Hardware and spoke directly to Lindy. I explained that the screen door was still a problem and that I was requesting a service visit. This time I specifically stated to her that whatever they charged for the service call wasn't an issue; I understood that the fee would be whatever it turned out to be. I just wanted the door repaired. This time she had a male employee write down my name and phone number, after which Lindy again said that Calvin would call me after he checked his schedule. I never received a call from anyone at JR Hardware. After two more call-backs, in which I asked for Lindy, was told she wasn't in, I explained the situation and left my name and number with a male employee, I still did not receive a call-back. Once again this was three attempts to schedule the repair. I patiently made these repeated attempts because Calvin, Lindy, and I all have ties to Hawaii, and I thought (mistakenly!) that that would be a connection that might help to get the service that I was requesting. Obviously, I was wrong about that. I do not know whether the "roadblock" to my being contacted was Lindy, Calvin, or the employee. All I know for sure was that when I asked for follow-up service, and even made it clear that I expected to pay for it, they did not have the decency to call me. I would have even understood if they contacted me and said that they do sales and installation, but not follow-up repairs. Instead, no call, just empty gestures of being friendly and helpful. Repeating my initial comments: They are fine giving estimates, making the sale, taking your payment, and doing the installation. But my experience after that was that when follow-up service is requested, Lindy and the office employees smile and appear helpful, but that never translated into a call or return visit, much less a repair. Noticed as I was completing this review that there are other 1-star reviews describing similar "no call-back" experiences. Maybe they are too busy to properly service small individual accounts. Maybe they don't care. Whatever the case, it's sad that they choose to run their business this way. read more

Calvin (Kaipo) does phenomenal work. He was friendly, helpful, and clearly knew what he was doing. We would use him again anytime. The price was fair for a local small business that specialized in Doors. We feel we got more than what we paid for. We also through talking with him on the site realized he was incredibly invested in the community and gives much time and effort to helping the CV thrive. An overall great experience! read more

Wow. The other bad reviews are warranted. I needed a door handle and was ready to support a local business. I asked questions and the two men there were not helpful. When I told the man behind the counter that they weren't being helpful, one of them told me that " I was not not nice" and said "bye! You can leave now!" So I did. Unbelievable. read more
