There is also a bakery take out window with fabulous home made items and Jackie's caters as well. Famous for a chocolate bag, yes literally one you can eat, filled with other goodies should you want to order for a party or special occasion. In door/Outdoor seating as well as order and pick up. For Chicagoans like myself, it is interesting to not Jackie had a well known restaurant in Lincoln Park before falling in love with New Buffalo and opening her restaurant here. I attempted to take my dad and mom out for breakfast for father's day here , and the rude host/ waitress asked people behind us in line how many people they had. The people were confused and pointed us and said "they were here first. " the server said " No I'm talking to you guys ." ( the other people. ) we were all confused. She then actually seated the couple behind us, before us. Within a few minutes they then had drinks while still no one acknowledged us after we eventually got a table . After waiting another 10 minutes with no acknowledgement by anyone at all we walked out. The prices on the menu were extremely expensive as well . What an amazing surprise! We are renting a VRBO house (off season) in Michiana/New Buffalo, Michigan. Jackie's was subtly recommended by our "hosts". Wow. Only open for breakfast/brunch/lunch, it reflects the artistry of its chef/owner. Lovely (small) deck, appropriately spaced for Covid19; creative (minimalist) menu; turns out the chef has an illustrious Chicago career. They do takeout, catering, pastry and more. Jackie's was great! The food and the service was so good. The kids 2 and 5 split an order of oatmeal and and a healthy pancake. They cleared their plates and they never do that... My wife got a crepe and destroyed it. I just got two eggs and bacon both were very good. Jackie came out and talked to us a bit and took our check and cleared the table. read more

we got there and there was a 20 minute wait, while we did get in and a table after 15 minutes the waiter came up and took our order then took 40 minutes to get food on the table and it wasnt terribly busy. the hashbrowns were mushy and flavorless. the toast was the best part (only because you cant mess up toast) the bacon was undercooked. took us 30 minutes for the waiter to get my friend a coffee then slammed the bill on the table and didnt ask how the food was once or say whenever you are ready you can pay. horrible, slow service. read more

Really good stuff, with room for a bit of improvement. Came here with my family for Father's Day at 9:30A.M.; we were seated right away. Although we were seated quickly, we were some of the first people there and it quickly picked up between 9:30A.M.-10:00A.M. My Dad and my wife had the eggs benito, which is a take on egss benedict served on top of jalapeno cornbread with a cheesy jalapeno sauce. All very delicious, although my wife's eggs were very overcooked. The sauce added plenty of moisture, however, so she ate it without mentioning it. The scramble that my Mom had was tasty - fresh pork sausage, spinach, and swiss cheese with toast. Coffee a touch weak; I had green tea that was really tasty. The decor is clean and bright but nothing great. With the prices they charge, around $10-$13 for each breakfast, it could be a bit more upscale in that department, but hey, I'd eat in a barn on top of a donkey if the food was good. And it was. The service was not the best. The two waitresses are good looking and reasonably polite, but they do not go above and beyond to be friendly and responsive. I had to ask twice for an extra chair for our fifth party member (I would have grabbed one myself but I didn't want to rudely take one from a table someone was sitting at) and when I was asking for a box, the lady just walked away and brought back a box later, not acknowledging my request. Still, if you're looking for a great, home made breakfast in New Buffalo that is a little more creative and upscale than the usual diner fair, this is a great choice. I am also curious to try the lunch options, because they had some interesting choices - Taiwanese peanut noodles, an Asian shrimp salad, sandwiches, Egg Foo Young, yum! First time at this restaurant and I have to say I was disappointed but not in food however, the staff. The hostess kept ignoring us while we were waiting to be seated, then it took quite awhile for someone to come and even ask if we wanted coffee...toast came out when we were just about finished. There appeared to be plenty of staff working and several were hustling and then there were some just walking around and looking at cell phone. When I asked one for something, I never saw her again. We have been coming to New Buffalo for years. Not sure when Jackie's opened up but had never noticed this cafe before. From the reviews it looks like about 3 years ago. Anyway. Our food was great. My husband had the Ahi tuna salad and I had the turkey sandwich. His was cooked perfectly and mine was piled high with meat. The pickle salad and potato salads that came with the sandwich were also yummy. The restaurant is quaint so I can see how it may be crowded during breakfast. Thinks we're starting to die down when we got there. Including our server who seemed to not only forget our food but to refill our water and then lastly our check. Breakfast with blueberry French toast, the ultimate crepe which is likely the superstar of the whole NW Indiana region. We were a little disappointed after having breakfast here this morning. It was a busy morning, and we are usually patient and don't mind some waiting to be greeted, order, food, etc. But we experienced an extremely long wait to see anyone for anything- it took well over an hour in total for breakfast. Maybe understaffed when waters are empty, and everything takes this long. We are also pretty underwhelmed with the food. My husbands hash browns were not cooked- just soggy and raw. First things first...The term "diner" and the pathetic slices of bacon do not represent this place at all. Every bite was delicious. I don't often finish my meals and I scraped my plate here. We sat on the patio, had great service. It wasn't too busy when we went. For lunch...I ordered the egg foo young open faced, which was essentially a kick ass breakfast sandwich...scrambled eggs and the works inside, with Sriracha mayo on a delish brioche. Just typing this makes me want to go back now! My husband ordered the tuna tar tar and got it on spinach instead noodles. It came with a healthy portion of tasty tuna. Went back the next day for breakfast...it was a Thursday morning and we had our choice of seats on the patio, much like lunch yesterday. I ordered the blueberry French toast which was heavenly. Blueberry bread with a really yummy crust. Reminded me of a donut but not so sweet. My husband got the egg scramble which was great. The home made sausage was excellent. Food was great, but service sucked. Food took forever to come (at least an hour), and we had to ask at least three times for coffee and iced tea refills. Waitress was extremely unprofessional and didn't have a clue. The host was indifferent as well. Total mope. The table he sat us out was filthy and never was wiped down. My brunch companion did it herself with pocket Kleenex. They charge $1.50 for a credit card swipe, which I wasn't willing to pay. First time visiting this restaurant for breakfast and I don't even know where to start... The service was terrible: had to wait about an hour for food, the waiting staff was distracted and we had to constantly ask for various items. For example, they don't have straws for drinks due to environmental reasons but no substitutes with paper or bamboo straws. In addition, they use tiny plastic cups with lids for everything such as butter, jam, syrup, ketchup, etc.. go figure. No spoons to mix your coffee with creamer, instead they brought knives claiming the silverware is taking too long to be washed. Asked for a box to go several times. The food was OK but people who ordered eggs benedict were disappointed and many customers around us returned the item claiming there was something wrong with sauce. Many angry customers left the place with disappointed breakfast. The place was busy but no management around to be seen. No recommending and will not return to this establishment. read more

Everything was excellent. They were slow in taking our order, but the food was worth the wait. Beautiful outside area with birdhouses around you. We would go again, to try something else on the menu. Fairly weak. Eggs Benedict served with ham not Canadian bacon, a hollandaise that did not taste like it was made on premise served with only 3 small chunks of melon. A bargain for $13.50! Some home fried potatoes or hash browns would have helped. The spinach crepe sounded great but the crepe was obviously not peppered to order and the spinach barely wilted, mushrooms were advertised as sautéed but you wouldn't know it to look at or taste them. Cute and clean and the tomato soup was good, that's why I gave two stars. My dad and I both got the shrimp hoagie. It was some greens and shrimp mixed with some sort of yogurt and lemon juice. Everything on the menu is very simple and familiar but Jackie puts her own touch and makes something as simple as pancakes taste so much better than anywhere else you've tried before. Ambiance is modest and understated, much like chef and owner, Jackie Shen, known as one of the 1st Asian fusion chefs in the Windy City across the lake where her signature chocolate bag dessert gained her notoriety. Bread is made on premise served with homemade preserves and lemon curd ( if you ask for it).
