I like this hole in the wall. The service is good. Seats are extremely dirty with food . Sadly, there was a hair in the taco salad that we ordered. When we watched the server take the dish back, the cook looked extremely annoyed. I'm good on coming here anymore. I understand that these things happen but the way it was handled was unprofessional. There are so many choices in Reno and I will definitely make a better decision next time. If the plates werent over $12 for omelets, french toast, and biscuits, gravy and sausage, itd be 5 stars. Generally breakfast is the cheapest meal of the day, but for our family if 5, the bill came in over $80.my 8 year old daughter had mac n cheese in a small bowl, Seems very steep. The food wasnt bad, the restaurant is in the ghetto, and the server was nice. Single bathroom which is baffeling for a restaurant. Didnt have to wait to be seated, but all in all, there are other places for breakfast and they wont cost $80 for our family of 5(3 young kids). read more

I love "Holes-in-the-wall"... Jack's Diner on Victorian is exactly that. An old style Diner with classic American touches. I stopped in here a few days ago for breakfast as a Takeout. It was pretty good, so I thought I would return today for lunch. And yes, you guessed it! I had breakfast again. The wait staff is very friendly and laughed at my jokes. I ordered the porkchops and they were great. Plump and not over breaded or overcooked. The eggs were cooked as I asked over medium and tasted great. The coffee was also great, who has breakfast without coffee, even in the middle of the day? I'll be back again, if you decide to go, go early because they close daily at 2 PM. read more

I had time to kill before my flight this morning and I'm always looking for a good diner. In comes Jack's ! The atmosphere is the typical diner one. Formica table tops and counters. Bead board paneling. Somewhat dated but traditional and kitschy. The food. Well I ordered the traditional smoked country bacon breakfast. It came with 3 massive slices of country bacon (ham), 2 eggs, 2 slices of toast and home style potatoes smoothed in cheese sauce. The pros. Lots of food. More than I could eat. Great taste. Quick service. Snickers jellys including marmalade. The cons. Too much cheese sauce for my liking. My over easy eggs where a little under done for my tastes. The price. 10.99 for breakfast. Good price for the portions. 2.99 for an orange juice. 2.49 for coffee. So my drinks were half the price of my meal....I thought that a bit high. And the coffee was not anything to write home about. My wife and I went to the new Jacks on Prater and had a very good breakfast. My chicken fried steak and her item were very good. Tried the new location on Prater. Service was great but the little cups for coffee is ridiculous. If the coffee mugs were bigger the waitress or waiter would not have to keep coming back and forth so often. The food was ok; I had the chicken fried steak and eggs and it was a little bland. The biggest gripe I have is that we were charged $4.50 for a cup of coffee that wasn't all that great. I have enjoyed Jack's for many years but they need to step up their game at the new location or they are going to end up like Sizzler. read more

OK so I was in Reno this weekend and it was incredibly hard to find a good place to eat on a Sunday so I decided to try this please I had to put my name on the list and the host has passed me up three or four times and kept asking me is my party was here however my party will sit in the car because it was cold and she acted like she didn't want to seat us! Group of 4 took about 25 minutes to seat at the peak of breakfast but they waitress was very attentive and the food was great! The best country potatoes I've had in a long time. Darn. This used to be my favorite breakfast place. The last year though, the quality of food has gone downhill. I think they've changed cooks. This past week, I ordered the huevos rancheros. My favorite. I got the plate and there was no cheese, and only a scoopful of refried beans. The beans were under the corn tortilla with 2 eggs on top with some red sauce with celery and bell peppers in it. I can always pick those things out but it was just horrible. I think the cook makes this dish the way he wants to with no consistency. No beans, no cheesed?? Come on! My husband ordered french toast which was cold because it sat in the window while the cook was busy screwing up my order. Will never go back here. read more

Ah, Jack's Cafe. It takes me back to when I was a kid and would visit every Sunday morning with my family. On my recent visit to Jack's Cafe, I was a little disappointed. The menu options were plentiful, but everything that my table ordered was exactly "A-OK." I ordered the eggs benedict and the hollandaise sauce was very basic with not a lot of flavor. Their home potatoes are still to-die-for and my family likes to get them drenched in queso - I think they are perfect plain! Jack's is pretty well known for their scones which are really delicious fried bread. On my last visit, they were pretty hard and very greasy. The food seems to be pretty underwhelming as of late. Stopped in on Friday the 13th around 10:30am to enjoy a nice breakfast with my father and husband. This was actually a first time restaurant for my hubby. Upon entering we were seated in a booth, no waiting here, which was nice. Since it is the time if Covid19, masks are required. We ordered our waters and coffees and perused the nice sized menu. They literally have something for everyone! The nice waitress, (unfortunately, I didn't catch her name) came back after a bit to get our orders. My father went with his go to favorite corn beef hash and eggs with home fries and wheat toast. He had no complaints, and actually finished the whole plate, except for 2 pieces of toast which I brought home for my pups, they had no complaints either. I chose the chicken fried steak which included 2 eggs, home fries, and 3 biscuits and gravy. The home fries were definitely the star of the plate, then the gravy. The chicken fried steak I felt could have used some seasoning, sometimes just simple salt and pepper can go a long way. The portion of this plate was huge! I ended up bringing more than half home. For the hubby's first time here he went with the chilaquiles. He enjoyed it and said the only complaint he had was that his plate was served last making the chilaquiles a tad soggy, but he's excited to come back and try other items in the future. While everything went pretty well, I am knocking one star off due to the looks of the bathrooms. The women's bathroom was quite dirty and did not feel covid compliant. I actually felt more comfortable in the rail city bathroom across the street, that I used when we headed there to gamble. My hubby also mentioned the men's bathroom wasn't well kept either, and that a cook came in while he was in there with no face mask on but he did wash his hands, so there's that. All in all it was a pretty good breakfast, and we will be back again. I'll also remember the pics next time but we were pretty hungry lol. read more

This is your classic diner. No-nonsense, un-elevated breakfast grub, available in gigantic portions if one wishes. They have a large menu and after some hemming and hawing I settled on the French Toast Buster, which consists of two pieces of french toast, two eggs, and two sausages or pieces of bacon, of which I opted for the former. The french toast was soft and fluffy and the scoop of whipped butter that topped it quickly melted on and enhanced the bread. The eggs were perfectly over easy, with gently solidified whites that ruptured to release dippy yolks at the poke of the fork. Our waitress was extremely, above-average cheerful and friendly, not accepting just "okay" for an answer to "how are you?" (the answer is "super!" or "great!" or something along those lines). She asked where our large family group was from and chatted about how she grew up in the Bay Area as well. For the specific category of American diners, the lack of amazing-ness actually increases my rating of them. My college boy bro-in-law ordered a meal designated for hearty eaters, and his steak was a wonderfully stereotypical diner gray color. My other bro-in-law enjoyed watery plain coffee. This local café is fas and friendly with a nice selection of items. The breakfasts are generous and tasty. We ate here three mornings while staying at the Nugget. Ample parking is available, too. The only negative is what is playing on The TV in the mornings: gory movies! Which don't go with a nice breakfast! I'm eating my eggs and a teen horror movie is on with teens falling into a fire with gruesome burn injuries displayed. . The next day there was a shoot-em- up drama with dead bodies everywhere. I asked them to please change the channel as I'd didn't care for blood and gore with my breakfast. Both days the nice waitress said she would ask the manager If they could change the channel: no change happened. The manager likes to have gory movies playing? Really, get a clue! read more

This is a review for Jack's Cafe and Jack's Cafe #2, since my partner and I ate at both locations on consecutive weekends and had pretty much the exact same experience -- a good hearty breakfast at reasonable prices. This is your typical all-American breakfast diner that does all the breakfast and lunch basics very well. The menu is pretty extensive with a bent toward some Mexican-style foods. Fajitas came super hot off the grill with a ton of grilled peppers, onions and spicy grilled chicken with delicious beans and rice. Huevos rancheros is excellent. Omelettes are big and hearty. Service is attentive. Coffee is nothing special, but what coffee shop java is? I will definitely eat here and again and it may be my new favorite breakfast spot. Locals love this place. It's worth a short drive from a nearby downtown or Sparks hotel with expensive breakfasts or crappy continental breakfasts. read more

People been telling me this place was good from when I first moved here about 2 1/2 years ago. We were supposed to go here a few times but, for some reason we never went until recently. We visited the one on Victorian for Sunday breakfast. As we pulled into the parking lot, they looked busy, which to me means they must be good right. We were seated right away and our table had a good view of the football game on T.V. I'm not from Reno so I don't know the history of the food places here but, this place has an old school coffee house / dinner type feel which I like. I'm getting hungry writing this review. After not being able to make up my mind as usual. I decided on the Corned Beef Hash and Eggs. Oh, and just to let you know, I brought 2 Tupperware containers of rice because I'm from Hawaii. The Corned Beef Hash was good but what I really liked were their biscuits and gravy that came with it. The thing that made it so good was that their biscuits and gravy are over a bed of what I think was country potatoes. Oooh, so good! I like biscuits and gravy so kinda biased. My sister ordered the deep fried cheesecake for everyone to try for dessert. I didn't try it but they said it was "Oh wow"! Weird thing was I didn't try anyone else's food that day. I'm watching my figure.... get bigger! Ahahahaha, that's a good one! Anyways, everyone liked their Meal's and my cousin said thats one of his go to places when he's in Reno. I didn't try to much different things like I usually do but my breakfast hit the spot and our waitress was on it. Just to let you know, we're a really nice, friendly, easy going family. As a family, we don't complain much but, we can be pests sometimes because we ask our servers for a lot sometimes ( usually because there's so much of us) and we ask at different times. Usually my moms the worst. She pretty much remembered everything we asked her to get, was always checking on us and making sure our drinks were full, we had enough napkins and she was very friendly and professional. When we first moved here three years ago, we were in search of a local, traditional cafe for breakfast. Nothing fancy, just old fashioned, down home type meals. My husband loves his breakfast, but has no interest in fusion, foodie kinds of meals. As soon as he saw Jack's, he felt he had found his breakfast place. They offer a good hearty breakfast menu with plenty of sweet and savory options, as well as a senior menu and of course, healthier choices. We stopped by this morning for breakfast. Now that COVID19 has changed the service industry, one is not quite sure what to expect. Jack's staff took us in to be seated right away. No reservations are required and being a Monday morning, no waiting. All the staff I observed wore a face mask and tables were designated in a way to respect social distancing. We were attended to right away and had coffee and water within a few minutes of being seated. My hubby ordered bacon and eggs, I ordered the breakfast burrito, with bacon, dry. Food was delivered promptly from a very friendly and attentive server. Both meals were quite good. The huge burrito came with home fries, so I pretty much took nearly the whole burrito home after devouring my home fries with a side of salsa and sour cream. The burrito was huge, packed with bacon, egg and cheese, and I didn't have to search around for any of it, it was layed out throughout. I want to love this place more because the customer service is great but the food always seems to let me down. This most recent visit I was torn between two options and asked the waitress for her suggestion. She recommended the chiliquilas (sp?). I told her that sounded great but it needed to be really mild in terms of spice. She assured me it wasn't spicy. I agreed but again reminded her I cannot handle spicy at all - mild all the way please. The food came out fast and one bite in I knew it wasn't mild as promised. She came back by and I asked for sour cream. She asked if it was ok and I told her it was way too spicy. She said she didn't think it would be a big deal and she was happy to bring me sour cream. Sour cream didn't help. That means I am only eating half my meal. I had to leave them all off to the side and eat around them. Serious bummer. The coffee never stopped flowing which was nice but serious downgrade for the food. I recognize spicy is relative but after several reminders a simple warning would have been a better route. I don't think I will come back for anything other than the traditional offerings like waffles and pancakes. read more

But on my second visit??? It was horrible! Our server seemed to be a little racist? We're mixed Asian and the server is mexican? She already had a VERY NASTY RUDE ATTITUDE! She took forever to get us drinks.. and gave it to us in dirty cups with lipstick stains on the rim and my water had some stuff floating in it?? OMG SUPER GROSS! Mind you guys, their were only 5 tables that had guest dinning in and that's including our table. And their was another server. This place is not that small. Their were at least 15-20 tables total. Jack's is located on victorian across from rail city. Situated in an old dennys building, this restaurant has been a main stay in sparks for years. When you arrive you are greeted promptly,and shown to your booth or table. Jacks is only open for breakfast and lunch, closing around 2pm. The wait staff is extremely friendly and attentive,refilling beverages and checking the meal was cooked correctly. I ordered a hamburger on a french roll with cottage cheese. The burger was garnished with pickles ,onions,tomatoes,and cheddar cheese. It was good, just good. Nothing earth shattering. I would say the food here is better than black bear diner, but you feel like it is still dennys, food you can count on, but just not alot of wow. So in closing, i will be back to try there breakfast, and maybe a different item for lunch. read more
