I have to admit this place caught me off guard. Without a doubt the best martinis I have had in south OC. By far. The blue cheese stuffed olives...next level good. Haven't been in Jacks for a bit but was super surprised to see the remodel, flooring, paint, art, etc, just really nice. Can't say for sure, but maybe a new chef as they offered 3 specials last night, all of which sounded fabulous. We each had the fettucine with sliced filet and mushrooms in a cream sauce. Went to jack's as a party of 8 and the food from entrees to main course and desert were excellent. The eggplant entree was the best we've ever had. The salmon main meal with angel hair was amazing. The halibu and filet mignon we're quite good. Finally, the deserts were to die for. We will definitely be back on our next trip! read more

First time here, recommended by a co-worker. Decided to take the wife on a date night, the setting is elegant, classy, and cool low playing music and a nice scenery. The pictures they have hanging up is a great touch as well. Now to the food, I had the King salmon, it was delish above and beyond my expectations, the flavorful, carrots added an extra kick to the meal as well as the mashed potatoes. This was the third time we went back to Jacks. It was as amazing as the first two times. My husband had the trout almandine which he said was fabulous our son had the chicken Marsala said it was the best he ever had and I had the linguini with garlic shrimp again fabulous. They were so accommodating for our party of 8. We had 2 babies in our group and they were packed, but they still found a way to seat us all. We hate when restaurants try to make things difficult, so it was refreshing to have a spot go out of their way to make things work. Helps a ton that the food was delicious. I had the Pinot Grigio (Scarpetta) and it was honestly the best part of my experience. So delicious. Husband had a filet and it was cooked to perfection. We love the food, the service and the hospitality of Jack's Restaurant. We always get the eggplant appetizer, the Caesar salad and one of the desserts. I have lived in Dana for a long time and somehow had never made it to Jacks, so I was excited to have dinner a few weeks back. The restaurant is cute, old school and I loved it! The "hostess", which might be the owner was funny, waiter was a lovely and you could see there were many regulars. I'm giving this 3.5 stars because I felt the food was not the greatest...the calamari was perfect but the pizzas were ok, chicken picatta was REALLY lemony and much "thicker" pieces than I'm used to having. On the flip side, my husband loved his chicken parm! The tiramisu was ok, and the coffee yummy. Maybe we hit it on a bad day, that happens. I would recommend it but just advise the person my expectations were probably too high. read more

So I understand hair happens, but twice in a row eating there hair happened. Both times retrieved from my mouth (gross) and both times I mentioned it. The second time I went straight to Jack (the owner) and explained I had been going to his restaurant(s) for over a decade., and that this occurred twice in a row and I suggested that maybe his cooking staff need hairnets. Instead of a apology and thanking me for my comment, he was VERY rude and stated "so?". Although this was a couple of years ago, I'll still never set foot in that establishment again. Maybe if Jack doesn't own it or work there anymore I may be tempted but memories and the lack of courtesy and manners displayed by him has kept me and will keep me OUT!! A solid dining experience. Service was impeccable with a smile and fun chit-a-chat! Servers were responsive checking in and keeping us rolling with food and pouring the 3 bottles of Paso Robles wine our dear friends brought along. The wine flowed. There was 1 tiny spill of a glass and a server was on the spot in a hurry for a quick clean up, where wine was rolling over the table and heading for our laps. Our server was quick! The wine complimented fresh breads with olive and balsamic. Cesar and greek salads were very good. Main entrees were great tasting and the presentation was yummy-looking. And the quality was impressive to this Portland foodie. Listen to this---grass fed filet mignon, New Zealand lamb rack and one of the best egg plants we've stuck our forks into! I was at Jack's yestetday with 3 family members- 2 in their 40's and my husband and I in our60+. I would have given it 5 stars for the service(Nadia was great), bartender was great and the food was solid. But 2 hours in and spending $300+ a guy (who I think was Jack) comes up to our table outside and told us to leave because he had someone else that wanted our table. We were not rowdy we were just enjoying our time together. It was not as if there weren't other tables that could be used. It was incredibly rude So beware you may get kicked out for no reason whatsoever read more

Very nice place. We were walking by, Jack was very welcoming, like we were coming to his home. He encouraged us to come in with our dog. We sat on the clean, comfortable patio. Where am I ?? My date brought me here as a surprise. Blast from the past or blast to the future ?? Felt like the only youngin' here. So this is where all the cool elderly folks hang out ??? First impression: Dark/dim - that usually doesn't appeal to me, but this seemed to go well with the clientele. It's old school. Like ooooold schoooool ! Outdated interior in my opinion with dark wooden furniture. Restrooms weren't the nicest, but hey it's a hole in the wall type place and it's a bit run down so what do you expect ?? If you're not a local then you'd probably be a little put-off, but don't judge a book by it's cover. I was hoping there would be a positive to this experience. Upon entering we were greeted by Jack (I assumed was the owner) and my date quickly asked him if they had vegan options. Jack happily said they did and even had a separate 'Raw, Vegan and Gluten Free' menu !!! He briefly explained the dishes as well. How cool is that ?? Perhaps Dana Point is also for the health conscious so I appreciated this so much ! We were seated immediately in the back room passing the bar which seemed to be the focal point of the restaurant. Complimentary bread as a starter. Usually these are just fillers so I don't really devour this. Date did though. He likes anything free. :) I also ordered hot tea which took awhile to get. Waitress even forget the hot water and only gave me tea bags ?? uhh really ? I browsed the vegan section of the menu and opted for the 'Raw Spaghetti' - Raw zucchini pasta, raw yellow squash, tomato, raisins, pine nuts, sundried tomato, cold pressed olive oil and Kung Fu Tonic (optional). Waiter asked me if I wanted this 'special' tonic to add onto my dish ! WHY OF COURSE !!! He busted out with a vial dropper (kind of sketchy) out of his pocket and applied a few drops of this magical tonic onto my plate..haha Weird, but I rolled with it !! How often do you get that kind of service ?? Special tonic at a non-exclusive vegan joint FTW !! The dish was nicely plated, but I didn't think the portion was enough (see pic). I mean dang it's just spiralized zucchini ? I make that at home. Put a ton of that in ! It's not that expensive and this girl can EAT ! But overall, it was flavorful and unsure if that special 'Kung Fu Tonic' made a world of a difference. I thought I'd be doing back flips or karate chops after. Sadly no. They even had raw vegan pizza ! Awesomeness. Date ordered a seafood dish. I believe it was 'Wild Caught Lemon Sole' with lemon buerre blanc sauce and sautéed spinach and red mashed potato. He raved about the quality of the fish. For $27.95 it better be FRESH. He was happy. We ended the night with some white wine. Cheers ! Overall, the customer service was good. No complaints there except the tea mishap and the food came in a timely manner. Although I appreciate the vegan options, it just didn't WOW me ! Not so much that I would drive up here from San Diego. We consider Jack's to be a reliable place for good food at fairly reasonable prices. This time, I was happy to see Branzino as a special. The fish was cooked properly but was covered with WAY too much garlic. I tried to scrape off as much as possible but it still overwhelmed the flavor. Not everyone loves or can tolerate garlic.
