I used to love this place but their customer service has really gone down hill. We spent quite a bit of money on dinner for 6 people and the food wasn't great and did not have any flavor. We did order 3 deserts and one person ordered an after dinner coffee when 2 other guests asked to get another glass of wine with desert they were told no because they wanted to close. It was 9pm and they don't close until 10. In the end they allowed them each have half a glass of wine to have with their desert but I have never had a restaurant say that before. We will not be going back. Sad because this used to be a great place to go in Dana Point. read more

I am a foodie. I have been a waiter for many years of my life. That being said, I just had a bad experience at Jacks in Dana point. The waiters were great but they forgot my order, forgot to split an entree, and forgot an ice bucket. All that is easily forgivable, but the food was not. The steamed clams were tasteless. The lobster ravioli was bland, barley warm , and overpriced. the veal Marsala was very flavorful but also very very chewy.. The warm salmon salad had potential but the tomatoes were terrible, they should have left them out completely. I am very sad to say i will not be recommending this place to my friends. Hopefully this restaurant can get it together and compete with all the new one instead of going out of business . read more

Excellent service, great menu, good quality food. Make sure you try the carrots. Wonderful citrus salad. Enjoyed the halibut. Others had the salmon, chicken piccata and eggplant parm. Compliments all around. update: recently returned during covid to sit in the garden area. Food was still excellent, service still excellent and everyone was wearing masks and so pleasant. Recommend this restaurant! Would love to see some creative menu updates. They do a great job with the food they do prepare and can only imagine how it would thrive with a few creative starters or small plate options. This restaurant is a hidden gem! The best high quality food and they have vegetarian and vegan options! It's a favorite with the locals. I saw the mayor eating here recently. We came here for our Valentine's dinner and it was very nice. There was live music where a guy played nice ambient music all dinner, it was a real nice environment. The steak was wonderfully cooked. I got the medium rare and my wife got the medium and we both enjoyed our food very much. I wish they had more variety of food for a budget price, but that's okay. Memories...last night was my first time in Jack's Restaurant since the late '60s when I worked there as a dishwasher! [In the early 60s it was a Swedish Smorgasbord.] This new elegant Italian version is fantastic. They have remodeled everything and it's beautiful. We met with some high school friends for their Happy Hour [4:00 to 6:00] on their recommendation. We are all convinced their Happy Hour is the best in Orange County! We were fortunate to be seated at a high top table in the bar area where the bartender served us. He not only made the best martinis we've tasted in years [only $9 each and served with the shaker which holds enough for another glass] he was also a comedian who regaled us with comical quips throughout the service [no extra charge for the floor show]. A free basket of fresh yummy breads had us ready to order right away from the long list of discounted appetizers/entrees offered at Happy Hour [including the day's specials which were a shroom burger or an Italian roast beef sandwich]. We had the eggplant parmesan, the roast beef sandwich, the octopus, and the halibut carpaccio. Everything was beautifully presented, tasted delicious, and were such large portions, we opted for a decadent tiramisu dessert to share rather than order dinner entrees. Such a wonderful experience that we all agreed it will be our "go to" place in future. read more

In the Bizarro World we now live in, Kathi and I were driving down the coast looking for a spot to be near the beach and get some good food to go on Sunday. As we drove into Dana Point we saw "Jacks." Called in an order for Seafood Alfredo and Seafood Arriabiatta. It was around 6 pm when we pulled in and, Jack, the owner brought out our food. Since we had never been there, I asked if he was the owner and he said "Yes". We thanked him for being there and pray that small business like his survive. The portions were generous and pasta perfect. As America 2.0 opens back up, we will definitely be back and seek small locally owned business. I ordered the eggplant which is a signature dish. Happy hours is a great deal because its only $7.95 which is a nice savings from $11.95. Use to come here all the time when I lived in the area, and today i returned for the eggplant. The lasagna is a little taller than a remember. It use to be larger but definitely flatter. I guess only people shrink with age but not this eggplant. lol. read more

If you are cultured do not come here blonde strange tasting food and I get that the staff want to be welcoming but asking me ow I was 4 to 6 times just being seated got annoying it is nothing but old white people who come here and so many people stare very uncomfortable I highly do not recommend this place to anyone of culture. read more

My family and I enjoyed Jack's Restaurant very much. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by super friendly staff who were helpful and put forth the vibe that they were genuinely happy we were there. It was very welcoming. To top that off, the food was great! Several of us got different pastas and one got a pizza. They were excellent (the pizza and ravioli were stars)! We also ordered several desserts and they were again delicious - my favorite was the cheesecake - tasted homemade and delicious. There was ample parking and our waitress was very friendly and helpful and our water glasses were never empty. I would highly recommend this restaurant not only for its delicious food but also for its ambiance which felt like you just stepped into your Uncle Jack's house and everyone is thrilled to see you. Right away I loved the location because it was on this quiet street parallel to PCH . The dinner was fantastic, the staff was very attentive and extremely nice. We met up there for a birthday. Never been there before. The waiter was very attentive to our table. Great service. Delicious appetizer; we got the mushrooms and they were not disappointing! Yum! They came with bread and the sauce was amazing. The dinner went well and the waiter even told a joke and adjusted the temperature for us as it was a warm evening. This felt like spot for the locals in Dana point. Very good food, what stood out for me was the value. Rack of Lamb, chicken Piccata, drinks , and Calamari for under 100 dollars? I have to admit I was mega skeptical after seeing these Macaroni Grill prices, when the food came we were sucker punched with delicious food. I recommend this place to those who don't want get very dressed up to have great food, casual inviting atmosphere but with high quality food. The location is very hidden and we almost walked by not even knowing if they were open. The only thing I would say is that they might want to add to their whiskey selection, other than that we are definitely coming back this place isn't directly on PCH so map it and you won't be sorry. Overall, the experience was OK. We went to this restaurant for the first time. The staff was friendly, the ambiance was nice, albeit it had an old feeling. Ultimately, the food is what does the talking, though, and it was just ok. Not bad, but not memorable. We ordered the chicken abruzzi and the new zealand warm salmon salad. Although I enjoyed the rub on it, I would have preferred one piece of a normal, thick salmon filet instead of multiple pieces of thin, tail-like sections. It felt like they used up whatever little pieces were left. Perhaps New Zealand salmon is smaller, but I've never seen that. Overall, decent experience and good service, but not sure if it merits a return visit. read more

Sorry, but I do not feel Jack's is worth 4 or even 5 stars. This restaurant serves just basic Italian food. I had better -- I had worse. Unfortunately, the food tasted blend. I guess, spending a lot of time in Italy (different regions) made me more critical of the Italian food in the US. The service was somewhat impersonal / not very attentive. First time here and reading the positive ratings, we wanted to give it a try. I am not sure we will be back. read more

My wife and I happened upon Jack's randomly for happy hour. We had reservations at another restaurant just down the street for later. We were so taken by the staff and clientele that we stayed for dinner. The meal was fabulous. We had a wonderful salad, tasty entrees and desserts to die for. This is our go-to restaurant for special family occasions and Jack's has never been anything but exceptional. We were greeted warmly at the door, seated promptly, given tasty bread with oil and vinegar to nibble on while we were reviewing the menu. The wait staff was patient with our meal related questions and took our order in a timely fashion. As always, our meals were delicious and the desserts did not disappoint. I also noted during the meal that the wait staff was attentive while we ate, but did not interrupt us unnecessarily. Lastly I would like to add that the bathrooms were clean and well stocked. As a family we were worried that this small family restaurant wouldn't make it through the pandemic, but we are sure glad they did, so we can celebrate more family milestones at Jack's read more

Kiro Ricardo and the main boss Kack truly made our experience as if we were in Milan Italy gave us a mini vacation and the food as a doctor from Boston who hung out at the little Italy in North End the food was amazing. I got the trout and wife got free range chicken mushroom and a bottle of wine very reasonable. This place bring Italian memories.
