Love this place. Great sandwiches and salads. I went today and got a salad and it was huge! At least you get your money's worth here. I've paid the same price or maybe a $1 less elsewhere but got half the food! Sweet workers as well. My only complaint is the music is always SO LOUD and then concurrently everyone is shouting over it. It makes me want to leave a place I'm enjoying being at otherwise. On Saturday, I came to Jack's for lunch. I ordered 2 salads, 1 to eat there & 1 to take home. Additionally, my mom ordered a salad and my sister ordered a sandwich. The young man that took my salad order was incredibly rude, unlike anything I have experienced at Jacks before. With each item I requested, he shook his head and his overall demeanor & body language showed that he could care less. I asked for the meat for the to go salad on the side, and he placed it on the salad. When I politely asked if he could put the meat on the side, he threw his tongs and walked away. Another employee took over for him. My sister ordered a tri tip sandwich, well done with only honey mustard. That is how the order was placed, yet it came out lathered in mayonnaise & fixings. She sent it back, and it l was returned with rare meat. Third time, 15 minutes later, was a charm. I've never had such a terrible experience at a Jacks location as I did here on Saturday - to have an employee throw tongs and walk away is absolutely unacceptable. read more

My coworker's a pescetarian and I'm new to Sacramento, so we were a little stumped as to where to go for lunch. We ended up swinging by Jacks so she can nosh on a delicious salad and I could grab a sandwich. After perusing the menu for a good 5 minutes trying to settle my mind on one of the 10 sandwiches I wanted to order, I decided on a new menu item, Sonoma Steak Sandwich. As I put in my order, I let the lovely girl and guy making my sandwich convince me to order the sweet potato fries... urban style. Boy, was I in for a treat! My meal was by no means healthy, but I guiltily enjoyed every morsel of it. The Sonoma Steak Sandwich comes with perfectly done chargrilled tri-tip paired with crumbled blue cheese, flavorful mushrooms, spring mix, and grilled sweet red onions atop a slightly grilled ciabatta. I rarely finish a whole sandwich, but I couldn't stop stuffing myself with this sandwich. Now, the urban style sweet potato fries is what I think as the high-end version of animal fries. These perfectly fried pieces of sweet potato are drizzled with melted blue cheese, chili oil, chili flakes, and parsley. These packed a pleasant zing of spice to my already delicious meal. All that aside, I could come back JUST for their delicious iced tea. I guzzled a whole 20 oz soft drink cupful of it during lunch and took another cupful to-go for the rest of my work day. I've had some really great meals at several Jack's locations, including this one. The service here is what crashed and burned. I understand that mistakes happen in a kitchen, and I was happy to let them be corrected. What frustrated me was that the staff/manager had absolutely no sense of urgency when it came to addressing the mistakes during my visit. The first problem I had last night was a typical one: I asked to have something held and it was left on the sandwich, and my food arrived much later than my dining partner's. No biggie, I brought it back up to have them remake it. A few minutes later, they brought me a sandwich that had a big raw section in the middle of the chicken. This should have not even left the kitchen! They were the ones who cut it in half, and it was visibly raw the moment they set it down. Do they not look at food before serving it? 20+ minutes into my visit and I've had to take the food to the counter twice; the manager asked me if I wanted a refund or if I wanted to order something different? Uh, no-- I just wanted what I had ordered, brought to me in an edible state. I went back to my table and watched as other customers continued to get their food and mine never came. 10-15 minutes more had me asking for the ETA and I was told nonchalantly that it would take another 5 or more minutes. This is when I had to ask why, if they made two mistakes for a customer who has been waiting for a half hour, they wouldn't expedite my dish? They couldn't even have brought me out the fries I ordered? My dining partner was pretty much done with her meal and I'd yet to eat a bite, and here the manager was asking me again if I just want to get a refund. Does he think people just like going to restaurants to sit around, watch people eat, and leave with an empty stomach? Ridiculous. After 40+ minutes my food arrives and the manager has some excuses about trainees that really were his problem and not mine, but he did apologize about his staff's mistakes, comped my dish and gave me a coupon for a free entree for another visit. Stars only for the food. Otherwise, won't be returning, because of terrible service. Made the mistake of visiting during lunch time. Staff has no sense of "urgency" to move the line or provide expedited service. We don't all have two hours for lunch!!! No managerial presence. No regard for customer service. We stood and stood and STOOD for ever, in a very long line, reaching to the door, while one person fiddled around making salads, another grill person making sandwiches glared at me the entire time. The person carving beef and turkey was far away in his own world. Finally looked up after a long time and asked "any sandwiches?" Hmmm. The idea is you can go right... get a salad. Or go left... order sandwiches. It is arrogant to think we should all stand in line because this is the Fountains! How about some efficiency and organization? The busser tried to clear our table before we were finished! I had to grab our glasses to save our drinks. LOVE their Urban Fries and their Buffalo Chicken Sandwich!

So many different food that I enjoy from here. First off, the tri tip sandwich is one of the best and is my usual when I come here. I recently discovered "banh mi" sandwich which is a nice version of the vietnamese sandwich. I was pleasantly surprised given I have eaten a lot of the original vietnamese sandwiches before from Huong Lan and Lee's. Will definitely eat this sandwich again. Lastly, the urban fries are so good and unique. It is always a must have side dish to complement my sandwich. read more

I love Jacks Urban Eats, and overall they have great food especially the BBQ TriTip. I go here a lot and to the one on Howe, and I can surely say the one on Sierra College Blvd is the best of all.. They do a better job making their sandwiches. Bread tastes better:) I'd still give this place 5 stars though. read more

I've been going to jacks for years now and it's a place I missed when I went off to college and it's a place I love to take visiting friends to lunch! Now whenever they visit, they'll go out of their way to eat here. Jacks has bomb salads, I've tried many of them although I'm a chicken Caesar kind of girl. Here is the problem...over the last 6 months the salad have been inconsistent. More often recently the portions of veggies added to your salad are very small. You used to get very nice fair portions of veggies for your six topping. It used to be consistently good now not so much....people stop paying good money when the food experience is inconsistent. Always good, consistently fresh and reasonably priced. We travel across town and skip many other restaurants along the way, to eat at Jack's. Very generous portions. As Jeff K., writes in the blog... I also like this place better than the Jack's at Loehman's Plaza... yes the staff are happier here. My wife and I have become very particular, as to where we will go out to eat. Most restaurants nowadays are chain stores with poor service and mediocre food. It's hard to find a mom and pop place, and one that has it going on. While there are more than a couple Jack's in our area, they are still family run and do a great job. I recommend the Thai Prawn salad, or the Classic Jack's Tri Tip sandwich.... it's the shiz! read more

I finally tried Jack's urban eats and loved it! I am not a huge sandwich person. But, after hearing the rave I figured I would try it at least once. My husband and I ordered one Cajun chicken sandwich with family size garlic fries. And, omg I loved it. The sandwich tasted fresh and flavorful. The meat tasted delicious! The garlic fries- family size- was huge. It is meant to be shared by 4 people and not two. Nonetheless, They were delicious. Not impressed. The music is so loud, it could be an Osha violation and they wouldn't turn down the volume. At lunch time, it shouldn't be as loud as a nightclub. Had a salad. It was fair. In fact I'd consider the food average (three stars). The ambience is one star due to the fact that you can't hear yourself think inside the place. Outside was a better--we were forced to go outside due to the music, but the ground was full of cast off food. The tables were dirty, although someone came by to clean them after we sat down.
