Had my fingers crossed on this night looking for a memorable evening to spend with my wife celebrating my birthday. Jackpot! We were first timers to Jakes, and now have plenty of reason to return. Thank you to the staff. Our lovely and attentive waitress Mairim. Chris behind the bar making a couple of perfect Old Fashions, and Christian for keeping our water glass filled and clearing the table without feeling rushed. The food was off the charts delectable and delicious. Tuna tartare and portobello salad to begin. Tasty and light on the tummy. Then it was time for the main event I had short ribs on the brain and the kitchen did not disappoint. Just melt in your mouth good. My wife went all in with the 35 Day Dry Aged Bone-In Rib Eye(check the picture). Just Wowzaaa! Cooked to perfection, and fed us for a couple of days after. The gift that kept giving. No room left for desert. So finished off with a sambuca, a scoop of ice cream with candle and a birthday wish... that we won't wait too long before our next reservation made. It is good for carnivores or all stripes but I wish they served grass fed and grass finished meats to cut down on people's health issues caused by factory corporate farms and grain fed cattle that are naturally meant to eat grass! I think the demographics and consciousness of the neighborhood is changing and Riverdale needs to step up its game. For those neighbors who don't care then Jake's is the place for you! We re-visited on a Thursday evening and was much more pleased with how the food tasted. If you're looking for a good local steakhouse, this is it but I would recommend going on a weeknight. There is no doubt the food at Jake's is good, but they have this attitude: "oh we are steakhouse and we can grab a bunch of your money and you will like it." Having a business lunch, one member of our party decided to add a few anchovies to his Caesar salad and wham the bill was hit with a 6 1/2 dollar charge for a few little slimy anchovies! I'll bet when the poor little anchovies were alive they had no idea how valuable they were! I brought this up to the server who essentially said sorry not my job and ran away lickety split. You would think when a customer is annoyed like this a manager would at least come over to say something but nope nobody came by. Another member of our party brought a bottle of kosher wine, and unscrewing hit us with a $25 corkage fee! She had brought kosher wine before because it's not available and they said you're welcome to do it again. So as the bottle was unscrewed we were screwed. Plus the menu has this very bizarre thing where there are two price columns one credit and one non-credit. How insulting and bush league is this. While the food is certainly good don't be surprised if you leave annoyed along with empty pockets. read more

I want to give it more stars but it's a little hard. The fact that there is only one waiter on a Friday is telling of the owners commitment to their patrons. Seems like that is more staff hanging out vs serving their customers. 6 tables on the first floor for one waiter is unacceptable to be honest. Went to this steakhouse to eat. I got low on cash and couldn't tip. After everything, I went outside to go to my car and the waiter came out to me to question why I didn't tip him. This place has got to have the most lowest class employees and management I have ever seen. What gives these people the right to follow customers out to their car to question them about being tipped? Sadly, I'm happy you didn't get a tip, your attitude was horrible during our dinning experience. You had a monotone voice and rarely checked on us to see if we needed anything. Honestly, do not go here to eat unless you want a horrible experience. To the waiters, have some class and don't go bothering customers when they finish and leave to ask about a tip that you may or may not deserve. Went for my younger brother's dinner at 7:30pm. (A group of 7 )We were immediately greeted and sat . Staff are all welcoming and attentive. We took our baby niece unexpectedly and they gladly accommodated us . Food was delicious. Prepped and season as requested . Drinks were the perfect match. Our waiter was super friendly and patient . Again another great meal at Jakes. My family celebrated our oldest sons birthday. T-bone, filet, petite filet garlic mashed Brüssel sprouts creamed spinach were all served to perfection. Mac and cheese served nicely and tasting even better. Steak sauce on the side was terrific to dip in as well. Desserts were yummy and beautifully presented. Service and ambience were impeccable. A true gem in the Bronx. Had another great experience at Jakes last night to celebrate Valentine's Day a few days late. Appetizers of Caesar salad and fried calamari followed by TBone filet mignon and petite filet with garlic mashed and asparagus. Steaks cooked perfectly. My husband and I had our first visit there for my birthday tonight. We were a little early and the hostess sat us upstairs on the top floor. It seemed nice until the cackling, yelling and drunk patrons (7 ppl) right next to us began to be sooo loud that we couldn't even hear each other in conversation. There was no bread served or even asked if we wanted any. The clams oreganato were okay; my husband really liked the french onion soup. But as we sat there and cringed each time the table screamed....we were absolutely disappointed that a steakhouse of this caliber would allow the patrons to turn it into a sports bar environment. The filet mignon was not seasoned well and extremely "spongy". We didn't wait to finish because we wanted to pay the check and get out. We will NEVER go back. read more

Terrible customer service skills. After spending a lot of money on an incorrect pickup order, essentially no help was offered to remedy it. The initial person I spoke with even asked me, "what do you want us to do about it?" Next employee I spoke with had nothing more to contribute. I enjoy the food, when I get the correct order, but after such terrible "hospitality", I will never order from Jake's again. I've lived in the Bronx my whole life and can't believe this restaurant has been sitting here for the last 15 years without me noticing. I'm not a big red meat eater, but family friends had good things to say about Jake's so I chose it for my birthday dinner. Jake's is located in Riverdale right on Broadway, easily accessible from the Henry Hudson Parkway and not a far walk from the 1 train. The restaurant is two floors; the first floor contains the bar and a few booths and the second floor has more tables and booths with large windows providing nice views of Van Cortlandt Park. The decor is typical steakhouse: low lighting with a variety of browns, reds, and wood tones. I started with Jake's crab cake; it was super fresh - tasted just like the ocean! The outside was crispy and it was paired with chipotle and dijon dipping sauces which complimented the crab well. For my main I had the petite filet mignon which was super tasty; we decided to carb out and ordered family-style sides of macaroni and cheese, hash browns, and cheddar bacon croquettes. For dessert I had the bread pudding which was paired with vanilla ice cream. Everything was delicious. Service was great, our waitress was attentive throughout our meal. I really enjoyed my experience at Jake's - definitely a place to come for a special occasion. It really made my birthday dinner exceptional and I look forward to returning. read more

I really enjoyed this spot during my meat-eating days. Jake's is located 5 minutes from my house. The decor is like something out of the 20's; it feels historic. My husband and I have come here on many occasions to share their porterhouse steak for two. The best sides have to be the mac & cheese and creamed spinach, in my opinion. They have a nice beer menu with beers from all over the world. We've tried a few of those, as well. The staff is attentive, the have valet parking and it's in the Bronx. That's a win-win in my book. I've eaten at Ruth's Chris in Tarrytown and I would have to say that Jake's kills it, hands down. Oh, and there is another Jake's Steakhouse in Long Island and I've heard good things about that location also. read more

My husband took me here for my bday several years back. The food was just OK, nothing memorable. The main memory I have from that very basic meal was of the very rude server, "So you say it's your birthday?" Like they were gonna deduct the dessert from her paycheck. I don't even remember if I got a dessert. Sometimes, you can just tell when white folk are upset they have to serve POC. Too bad for her b/c we usually tip very well.
