When something is scheduled in advance, as the owner of the business, Martha you should know how to handle situations without hostility and be able to work under pressure without snapping on your guests. Snapping on the bride and her pregnant friend is pretty horrible service and so disappointing. Thankfully my friend is not easily moved and she was still able to enjoy her night! People, if you want to support a small business, maybe find one that doesn't have multiple reviews about the owner of the place being incredibly rude to her guests. If you're in helotes looking for real authentic Mexican food, exceptional service and some pretty cool stuff to look at while you're inside I'd recommend El Chaparral Mexican Restaurant.

When I looked at the menu, my eyes went directly to a plate that had my choice of two enchiladas accomapnied by my choice of a chalupa, crispy taco, fajitas, or puffy taco. Each of those had choices like chicken or beef. I also had a choice of refried beans or borracho beans. I opted for two beef enchiladas, a beef puffy taco, and refried beans. The server put my steaming hot plate in front of me along with a separate plate for the puffy taco and a container of tortillas. It was an amazing amount of food. Now, if you know me, you know I evaluate Mexican restaurants on their rice, beans, and tortillas. Mia's rice was some of the best I have ever had. The texture was perfect, and the flavor was absolutely delicious. The beans were also very good. They were nice and thick and tasted of lard. Where Mia's fell a bit short was with the tortillas. They did not pass the smell test, they were a bit dry, they were a bit hard, and they did not taste that good. However, my wife has brought me tacos from there, so I know that they are capable of making some damned good tortillas. Maybe today they had problems. I don't know. The enchiladas on my plate were substantial. There must have been at least ¼ cup of ground beef in each one. The enchilada sauce was very good. It was not too salty like so many restaurants have started making. The puffy taco was as good as any I have had anywhere. It was huge, so I ate it with a fork. I could only eat about half of it. I was STUFFED. Trust me... There is no better STUFFED than when you are stuffed with delicious Mexican food like they serve here. My wife ordered and enjoyed an al carbon salad. She had some dental work recently and has to be careful about what she tries to chew. I'm glad she enjoyed it. I am not a salad eater (hence the big butt and belly). It did not look appetizing to me. The restaurant vibe reminded me of Mexican restaurants from my childhood. The music was nice. Everything was clean. The servers and hostess were awesome. I need to go back when I can get someone else to drive so I can have a margarita with my meal.

This is a necessary review update to what was previously a decent new spot in the area. Yesterday, I ordered my usual 12oz steak and shrimp, medium rare. They served a steak portion that was, at best, 5oz, and it had been cooked far beyond well done. The meal included 5 tiny rubbery overcooked shrimp (menu says 6) that had not been deveined before overcooking them. I asked for a manager and was told there was not one on duty, but 'he' would be back at 9:00pm. I called at that time and got voicemail. I asked for a prompt return call... that never came. I called today and spoke to "Oscar," who was belligerent and argumentative, at first refusing to provide me with the manager's name, then claiming he was the manager. When I attempted to share my experience with him, he repeatedly interrupted and shouted me down. My guess is that the owner doesn't know that Oscar and crew are torpedoing his new establishment.
