Went to Jams on a Saturday afternoon (around 3pm). This was my second time here and the place was full and lively. Our server was very sweet and attentive. When asking about items on the menu or drinks she described everything as "oh that's really good." Lol. Super cute. I got the Jams breakfast sandwich. It was delicious! And the crispy home fries that came with it were the best! Super crispy on the outside while the inside was still fluffy. The sandwich was on a pretzel roll with scrambled eggs and ham. I recommend it! The drinks were great too! I started with the Bloody Mary which was refreshing and balanced perfectly. Then I got the a cocktail from the menu called The greenhouse. It basically makes you feel healthy because it was green juice with vodka. Lol. I recommend making reservations during peak hours for sure! read more

My wife and I really enjoyed our brunch visit here. What a calming break from the hustle of the city. Decor was done really well, a very calming feel while there. Service was also excellent, we wanted for nothing. Wife had the chicken sandwich and I had the roast chicken. Both were excellent. While the roast chicken wasn't a new taste experience, it was executed perfectly and in that, it was became exceptional. The chicken sandwich was slo really great. Hard to describe the nuanced difference execution makes for something so common as a chicken sandwich, but it makes a difference. I'll be back in NY in another month and I can't wait to come back and have it all again. read more

Came here for brunch with a couple friends. This has a great location right near the park and the interior is bright and welcoming. We ordered a few of the cocktails right off the bat. They were very nice to make us an espresso martini and bloody mary even though these weren't listed on their menus. One downside is it became very challenging for us to get our waitress' attention after the initial order. For the food, we split the pancakes and I tried the fried chicken sandwich. The pancakes were rather plain without much presentation but tasted pretty good. I did really enjoy the fried chicken sandwich which had very juicy chicken. Overall, I enjoyed the ambience and it made fo ra fun brunch place. The service could have been improved but I'm overall satisfied. read more

The ambiance here is so delightful. I've never been to a restaurant filled with the fragrance of frankincense... it was actually wonderful. By coincidence , the soft music was my favorite artist from Cape Verde. The restaurant is attached to a hotel lobby with matching decor. The food was very good, not excellent... for NYC, at least. This is a great location for lunch or brunch, within walking distance to Central Park. This is an Organic Health Aware-style restaurant. I will admit my son said the chicken was too blent, unspiced & too overpriced for its taste. I thought it was a HUGE piece of organic chicken, literally half of it ... He had a "JW Chicken + Fries" ($34.00) & I had a "Point Judith Crispy Calamari" ($20.00). I thought my Calamaries were fantastically cooked & nicely spiced. Not overpriced for the size either. Ducked in her during a rain storm for some coffee and a lite lunch. Ambiance is open, airy, garden like, with outside seating option.Very, Very loud. Food, coffee, drinks were good! Service was S L O W. Took a bit to be acknowledged once we sat down, food came fast! And then again S L O W- it took way too long to get our server to bring the check....literally could not make eye contact with him when he moved in and out...so my husband finally took the credit card to him. And now as I wrote this post...the sad lil card is sitting in front of me waiting to pay the bill...waiting...waiting....thankfully we aren't in a hurry. ZERO stars. THE WORST service we've experienced in the city. Had a reservation, we were on time, sat in the back. No problem. Watched a waiter prance around doing nothing except being impressed with himself while a 6 top sat patiently but visibly annoyed and ready to order. He literally walked by them 5 or 6 times and looked at them. He also looked at us several times but never bothered to say hello, or welcome us. After 20 minutes of waiting for WATER, he came to the table next to us and poured water for one gentleman who sat down about 10 minutes AFTER US. He tried to wink at me and tell me he'd be right with us. We got up and left, complained to the gal at the front and she didn't seem concerned. I saw the server smiling at me. I had to check out Chef Jonathan Waxman's restaurant! The decor is simple but chic.The host greeted us and we were seated.There was no wait which was great. The waiter was friendly and attentive. We ordered the margarita and grapefruit daiquiri which were potent but tasty. I wanted to ordered the butternut squash soup but they did not have it so I opted for the tomato and chickpea soup and the house made gnocchi.The gnocchi was delicious and the tomato soup as well. Beware the tomato soup has bits of pepper flakes which I did not know about ...let's just say I needed 3 glasses of water to calm my taste buds down! Ofcourse, you guys know I can't leave a place a without. We had the chocolate budino and apple crisp. Dessert was scrumptious! I'll try this place again for brunch. 3.6 stars... everything is well made here and the service is on par. It is also a family friendly restaurant. The interior is rustic and has a two story volume with clerestory windows that makes it very comfortable to be in. I had the Jams omelette which is the signature dish here. Its exterior texture was super smooth like the Japanese tamago but the fillings were too little. It was the smallest omelette I had in my life, seriously. The portion is almost like a joke because the croissant we ordered at $4 was a mini croissant that should cost like $1 where I come from. So the value is lacking here for sure. Generously rounding up to 4 stars because they deserve it for the quality and the venue BUT I will likely skip this place next time around. read more

But we came for food and reviews were promising. I don't understand all the rave reviews because the food was meh at best. Under seasoned, over cooked, just super disappointing. Lamb chops were over well, and the gnocchi was "seared" until it dried up like cardboard. No amount of sauce could rescue either. Maybe brunch is better? The side of Parmesan potatoes were okay but still needed the aid of sauce. The staff were all very friendly, which is the only reason I'd give it another chance. The food just isn't good. No flavor. Portions are small. Everything is way over priced. For $55, I expect a good steak. Not a poor quality piece of meat that I can cook at home. I wasn't around for the original Jams, but I was glad to try the new version tonight at the 1 Hotel near Central Park. As expected, the food was all delicious. Unfortunately, as you would also expect from a hotel restaurant near Central Park, the prices were all on the very high end. It is a very nice, bright space, with floor to ceiling walls and a similar feel to most restaurants of this type opening these days. The service was ok, but you could definitely feel that they are still getting their bearings. On to the food: - Kale Salad ($14) Better than your average throwaway salad, this was a tasty and refreshing way to start the meal (note: no bread though to start the meal unfortunately). - Pizzette ($17) This was a pretty good little pizza to start, topped with pesto, goat cheese, burrata and cherry tomatoes. All of that stuff made for a bit of a mushy texture overall, but the bread itself was great. - Jams Pancakes ($25) As alluded to with the preceding "Jams" in the name, this is one of the dishes made famous at the original location. By far the most expensive non-entree, this consists of three tiny pancakes topped with red pepper, smoked salmon, corn sauce, creme fraiche and caviar. It's obvious from the ingredients why this one is on the pricey side. Nevertheless, it's also delicious and definitely a must try. - Short Rib Tacos ($19) Moving back up to the top of the menu in what must be a horrible typo, the tacos and the burger are listed under "Bar Snacks" alongside little bites like nuts and olives. Based on the size of this dish, it could practically be considered a bar snack, but the price totally disqualifies it from that section. This dish consists of two pretty small tacos that are pretty good, but not $10 a piece good. - Jams Burger ($21) Also not a bar snack, but the burger was closer to being worth the price, as it was a large size and very satisfying. It's a cheffy burger, but with the standard ingredients of bacon, lettuce, tomato and cheddar. The patty is great, and it comes with a small serving of the JW Fries (just in case you weren't sure who cooked them), which is enough to go with your burger, so make sure not to order the side of fries for $10 unless you really want a ton of fries. - Jams Chicken ($25) I never order chicken unless it's fried, but like he's known for at Barbuto, apparently Jonathan Waxman is a master of chicken, so we went ahead and tried it. It wasn't particularly memorable though, so I would probably go with a different entree. - Baked Alaska ($12) This was ok, but very far down the list of the great baked alaskas available throughout the city. It's also really small for a pricey dessert. - Pistachio Layer Cake with Blackberry Jam & Mascarpone ($8) This was actually quite good, but surprisingly lacking in presentation. At a place of this caliber, I was expecting to be wowed by a nice tall slice of layer cake, but this slice looked pretty thin and sad. Perhaps my expectations were skewed by a recent visit to Untitled and the incredible slice of cake they serve there. This is a really nice restaurant and possibly a good place to take your parents or guests from out of town to impress them and then show them some touristy stuff nearby at the Plaza or Central Park. Some of the dishes are definitely worth a try, but make sure you don't mind dropping a good amount of money on your meal. read more

Hotel breakfasts in NY these days serve some of the best NY breakfasts and Jams is top of the pops. Some of the usual breakfast faves are on board plus regional stars and housemade pastries with a farm to table sensibility. Ordered: Toby's Estate coffee The Californian Chocolate croissant The ingredients of the food tasted super fresh and flavorful- warned tortillas with perfectly cooked eggs a chile and the tastiest pico and guacamole paired with the coffee and croissant was a killer California style breakfast right here in Manhattan. read more
