Went to the Java Beach by the SF Zoo on a rainy day. The interior was warm and inviting. I got a chocolate soda muffin which was moist and delicious. The chocolate wasn't overpowering and the jam and butter were sweet and savory. The coffee was smooth and creamy. The service was great, too!

Whether you're going to the zoo, heading to Sunset Dunes, or just live in the neighborhood, Java Beach is a good stop for a snack. Java Beach has several tables both inside and outside. I often see people bringing their babies or dogs and eating outside when it is sunny. They keep a bowl of water out for the furry friends. I usually get their sandwiches, with the club being my go to. You can get a standard club sandwich but you also have the option of having it on a Dutch Crunch. I almost never turn down a dutch crunch option, and it does well with club ingredients (turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato, mayo). The house coffee is solid but not always consistent day to day. One thing that could be improved is speed. It's a relatively low staff cafe for the amount of foot traffic they get, so you might have to wait a while for your order. Also, they don't always get the order exactly right (e.g., wrong cheese in my wife's sandwich, wrong bread on an order in the past). It's also not cheap, but hey, it's a cafe near the beach. Overall, pretty solid food and coffee, and worth stopping by if you're in the area.

After a red eye and arriving on an overcast day, all I really needed was coffee and a hot breakfast. I looked at convenient spots to stop along my route and found this place. It's located near the zoo with plenty of free street parking around. Also walkable from the zoo if need breakfast or a place to take a break. Ordering inside was a snap, the staff was quick with orders. They have a great selection of coffee, pastries, and hot sandwiches. I opted for the breakfast burrito which came out super hot and fresh. Prices were reasonable. They have outdoor seating, and indoor bar and table seating. With the quick nature of their menu, seats opened quickly even on a busy day.

I don't know about you, but if you spend a couple of hours at the zoo like I did, watching cuddly animals doing their thing, you may not be in the mood for eating meat at lunch afterward. It's not as if I had a conscience. I just had a "Circle of Life" moment when I got up to the order counter and decided to get the $15.95 Beetnik Salad, a healthy veggie compilation, along with a $6 Arnold Palmer (Photo 6). It was a blend of arugula and romaine lettuce mixed with roasted beets, Full apple slices, chopped dates, roasted almonds, and Parmesan cheese (Photo 7). I asked for their thick housemade green goddess dressing on the side but ended up tossing it in myself since it was pretty tasty. All around my solitary table were laptoppers who were in for the long run. The subs and wraps looked delish. Next time. FOOD - 4 stars...genuinely fresh salad you shouldn't drown with dressing AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars..pleasant enough but swarming with laptoppers SERVICE - 4 stars...attentive at the counter TOTAL - 4 stars...nice place for a post-zoo nosh RELATED - Exploring the Sunset? Whether you're going to the beach or zoo this spot is in the perfect place for a quick little pick me up. There's food, drinks, and everytime I pass by there's a good amount of people are sitting and enjoying their items or people waiting for their drinks to go. The ambiance gives cute little beach town cafe. I'm not gonna lie I had low expectations for my drinks but I was blown out of the water with the quality. Only thing that sucks is that they have small shop hours and close pretty early in the day. So if you get the chance to go I say take it!

I am so sad to say this, but Java Beach is no more... They changed all their food vendor to Sysco and now everything tastes like garbage, along cutting half the menu. I have LOVED their Tsunami sandwich for over a decade and now it tastes nothing like the old sandwich. The bread is thin and airy, the contents all feel cheap. I am going to finish my meal and bid goodbye. I wish them luck with this new direction while I morn the death of Java Beach.

Habit not to check reviews and only my personal experience A breakfast burrito, one cup of orange juice from gallon jug and a coffee all with no bag roughly 27.00 and some change Would never again for this price and quality. Eggs and bacon have been somewhat consistent in pricing tortillas the same as well don't believe there's any cheese in there if so never tasted can't really justify the amount of money for a burrito like that but limited selection near the water online photo of their menu, showing the burrito compared to what was received Drastically different Orange juice and coffee taste OK coffee was lukewarm

If you want to get a coffee before or after visiting the SF Zoo, this is the place. There is space to sit down inside or outside (WiFi included)The associates were really helpful and delightful. I ordered a large Mexican Vanilla bean latte, my first time trying it and it was a pleasant surprise. They sell ice cream too. Highly recommended this place.

Cute cafe by Ocean Beach. The veggie bagel was delicious. Good bagels and large selection of coffee, espresso drinks, teas, soda, and beer. Perfect stop after the beach!

I've been here twice. First time I got a leg of lamb and more recently some double cut pork chops…read more I'm sure they are helpful if you ask questions but they were pretty busy both times I came in and it felt like you needed to know what you wanted for the most part. For the leg of lamb, I think most people get a whole leg of lamb. That was way too much for me and I think the butcher thought I was confused when I asked for less and asked me what I was doing with it. He ended up saying he could give me a half leg of lamb and I agreed. Thar was about 3 and a half pounds (bone included) which was the perfect amount. I seared it and then braised it and the meat fell off the bone. Delicious and the price was pretty good. I was cooking my first pork chop and decided to come here to get it. Their pork isn't labeled as Berkshire or Duroc or anything but that probably keeps the price down. For chops, they had boneless, bone in, and double cut (which was also bone in). I mentioned I wanted it to be about 2 inches thick and the butcher said to get the double cut.I got 2 beautiful thick pork chops for $6.99 a pound so about $18 total. The regular cut bone in pork chops were the same price though obviously smaller. I brined this overnight and reverse seared it and it was great. The chop was a loin chop- loin and then a tenderloin nugget- not a pure rib chop. Cooked really nicely and was tender which I think was partially the overnight brine and also their pork. They do sell some vegetables and grocery supplies if you want to just make a single stop. They also have a deli with some sandwiches that looked good and prepared foods. I was very focused on buying the things I came in for and getting on with my day both times but I would like to take a closer look in the future as it looked good. Solid butcher shop and clearly loved since it was busy both on a weekend and during the week. I'm sure I will be back.

3.5 stars. The staff and meats are what I like about Guerras. I've never encountered a bad staff…read moreperson here. We popped in to get sandwiches. A roast beef for hubby and turkey havarti cheese in Dutch Crunch for me. At the concert, hubby thought the bread was too dry and didn't like the sandwich. My turkey meat was good but I'd agree the bread wasn't so great. I ate the leftover 1/2 sandwich at home the next day and it was better after putting it thru the toaster oven. But I think sandwiches taste better from the nearby Safeway even.

This is probably the only place where the sandwiches don't taste like the store's essence…read more I mean, don't get me wrong, a store's essence from any given deli/liquor store definitely adds unique character to the sandwich and sometimes I want that in a sandwich. But when you want a sandwich that only tastes like its ingredients, Irving Subs is the spot. Their Dutch crunch is famous for being fresh and actually crunchy. Their lettuce is shredded but fresh and crispy. The salt content is just enough to bring out the flavors. And the overall composition of their sandwiches are very well proportioned. You're not getting skimped, but you're also not biting into a mouthful of a packet of deli meat. They definitely know what they are doing. Service is good and ambiance is a small humble shop on the corner of 12th Ave.

I went here on a Thursday around 5:54pm for a quick and early dinner to go and there was no wait!…read more I ordered the TABLT and a Potato Salad. I loved how the Potato Salad had thick cubes of potato in it, since that gave it a nice bite without it being too mushy. The TABLT sandwich was also really good too! The sandwich was thick and has lots of meat in it. For the sandwiches, they also let you choose what bread you want it on and I chose Dutch Crunch which went well with it. The sandwich was very filling too, so I ended up only eating half of it. I'd recommend this place! I like how stuffed they make their sandwiches, but I've only tried one sandwich from them so far so I'll need to try more later.
