I accidentally discovered Java Beach Cafe during a long walk along Ocean Beach and what a lovely surprise too! I love love love this place. If its a sunny Saturday or Sunday this is definitely a go-to spot for me for a coffee and a snack. Located just steps away from Ocean Beach, Java Beach Cafe makes for one poppin' spot. With their outdoor patio, yummy grub and relaxed beach-vibe it is definitely a restaurant I would recommend to those who find themselves in the Sunset district. Food-wise, Java Beach Cafe serves up some mean sandwiches. Anything from bagels to BLTs. Today I had the pesto veggie bagel on Asiago and booooy was it good! The pesto cream cheese and fresh veggies were precisely what I needed to wake me up...the cappuccino definitely helped there too. Alongside the sandwiches they also have great pastries, including scones, muffins, croissants - you name it and it's fresh! If you make your way out to Java Beach Cafe on a beautiful day, don't be surprised if there is a line. My suggestion: WAIT! Line moves quickly and the food it worth it. You'll probably end up waiting for about 5 - 10 minutes for your drinks and food once you order at the counter, but the staff really work hard and do a great job. read more

I loved this place! Le fiance and I came here after a volleyball meet-up at Mission Beach. We were super hungry but didn't want to get too far into the city and face traffic the whole way home. Cute little beach cafe to the rescue! I'm gonna be honest, I had pretty low expectations. I figured it was mediocre sandwiches and burnt coffee. But I was pleasantly surprised! Le fiance got a mocha hot choc thing, while I opted for an iced coffee (still my thing, even when it's cold and rainy. Must be a SoCal thing). We split the tsunami sandwich, which has ham, mortadella, salami and melted cheese and the Caesar salad. All of it was super fresh and tasty! This place is amazing. I love the vibe and the people who works in it. Thier prices are good. Cheaper than starbucks for sure. Everytging they have is homemade. They even make homemade chai! I have tried thier teas and lattees. I love the yogurt bowl its to die for spacially after a long walk on ocean beach. I like to pretend Ocean Beach is my neighborhood because it's the closest part of San Francisco to where I live and I go running there several times a week. So by this logic, Java Beach is my neighborhood cafe. The coffee at Java Beach is good. I'm an espresso snob--I hate that burnt sludge they call coffee at Starbucks and Peet's. And they serve it in real mugs. Drinking a latte from a paper cup is liking drinking wine from one of those big red plastic cups. It's best left to college kids. Java Beach also serves beer and wine which raises it above most cafes. Parking is great, of course, because this is Ocean Beach. It can be hard to find a seat, however, even when it's cold and foggy. I was grading at Java Beach Cafe several weeks ago and I looked around and saw signs advertising parties for surfers, firemen, and Gaelic Footballers. Seriously? This neighborhood might just be perfect. I am so moving here. read more

Came to this little gem after work with my significant other because he knew I love hot chocolate. I didn't think about ordering a hot sub. But of course, I did. Even though it was 45 minutes to closing, the sandwich was made to my kind of perfection. I couldn't even talk to my partner for I was enjoying the sandwich more than expected. Dakota was such a sweetheart. Normally when I go to places that serve beverages and/or food late night, employees give off the impression like they want to go home. Dakota's presence was much more opposite. She greeted us upon arrival and made small conversation. I felt a sense of appreciation. Do your mouth a favor and order the turkey club... or the kale Caesar salad... or even just a simple bagel with cream cheese. You will not live to regret your decision! 8/6/19 Since I had to drop off my son around the corner from this place I decided to stop in again for the second time in two days and get an oat milk latte and a chocolate chip cookie. Oat milk latte was good but the cookie was inedible!! For a 4 dollar cookie it better be fresh. I got the same cookie yesterday and it was good. This cookie was old and tasted like baking soda and the plastic wrap it came in. I gave it two good attempts! I'm more then frustrated because I paid so much. The reason I'm giving them a 4 star is because I saw a man get a cup of offer in a white ceramic mug. The mug they handed him had red lipstick on it and he didn't even notice. I watched him fill it and then he set it on his table. I wanted to say something but couldn't muster up the courage. I feel guilty now that I left the establishment for not saying anything. If the cup was clean then I wouldn't feel this way right now and for that reason as well as the lack of cleanliness, they don't get the 5th star. A and I were taking a walk on the beach one Sunday morning collecting shells for a project he was doing for work. Afterward, we were hungry so decided to walk along Judah Street to find a place to eat. We initially walked by Java Beach to see if there was anywhere else we could find, but everywhere else was super crowded with lines out the door. So we decided to walk back to Java Beach. While there were people there, it still wasn't too crowded and we were able to find a table without any problems. I decided to get a croissanwich - turkey and cheese, I believe. It's a giant croissant that they toast for you and it was yummy. A got a humongosaur bran muffin that was as a big as my head. It looked really healthy. And no, he didn't finish the whole thing. He packed it up and took it home with him. I would've been really surprised if he did finish it though. Java Beach is a cool little place by the beach that has cool pastries and sandwiches you can eat. Nice place to hang out and not too expensive. read more

I've been here quite a few times, this place is great when you want to study or hunt for jobs in peace since it's right by the beach. This time around I got a hot chocolate, I also got one of their pilsners (yes they do serve beers on tap, pretty cool) and my fiance got their matcha latte and a pesto bagel with avocado. Let's start by saying that we were pretty disappointed by the hot chocolate and matcha latte, the hot chocolate wasn't thick at all and not sweet, and the matcha latter had just a hint of matcha flavor. Why the 4 stars you may ask, well the pesto cream cheese bagel was good, the beer was pleasant and I've had their coffee and it's pretty decent, however you definitely can't beat this location and laid back ambiance. I definitely recommend this place if you're trying to get some school work done or if you're just at ocean beach and need to grab a bite or a brew. read more

I ordered a Tsunami sub and waited over 20 mins for it. Got home and the sandwich had no meat in it. Went back because I live in the neighborhood. When I told the person at the counter, he did not apologize. I've worked in the industry before and a screw-up that big deserves an apology and some attempt to make up for it, especially if the customer came all the way back. Remake also took over 20 min. I will take this review down if the owner messages me. I've been coming here for over 10 years. Retrain!!! Update: manager responded to my post in under an hour with a profuse apology and offered a refund. And that's how you manage a restaurant. Turn a 1 star into a 5 star. read more

What a nice and cozy coffee place. I came here after a day on the beach.. So close, just across the street from the ocean. I had the BBQ chicken sandwich, even though the chicken was a little cold, the sandwich was delicious! Hubby even wanted to eat the other half.. But I only gave him a couple bites. He had the Tsunami sandwich, the bread was so crunchy and tasty.. I took a bite to try his sammy but we liked mine better, and so did my dog. The coffee at this place is great! I had the French roast and is strong just like coffee should be. I love that they have beer on tap, this time I was in the mood for a nice coffee.. Prime location for a relaxing day to get some work done at a coffee shop. They have a good amount of tables, a bar area and a few tables outside as well. It does seem to be quite busy most of the time but never crowded. They offer free wifi, however the day I was there it seem to be down. I asked a worker to reset it, but still had problems getting connected. I'm hoping this was just a bad day...definitely a place I would like to comeback to eventually if I can actually get wifi service to work. All of their food selections looked delicious. They have a range of baked goods, bagels, sandwiches and salads. They also offer a few beers (some that were even on tap), if you're looking for an extra lax afternoon. For how busy it was while I showed up, their staff always seemed welcoming and worked hard to get orders made quickly. Overall, I'll definitely be back to give their wifi another chance. Was probably one of my favorite coffee shops I have found in SF so far. Great atmosphere, great food/drinks, great service. read more

TLDR: Great coffee and great place to study or have a nice conversation with a friend, too small for groups of more than three unless you want to sit outside Environment: Java Beach Cafe is a wonderful place to study or complete work, which is the main reason I come here. It a small beach cafe vibe that is similar to one you might find in Santa Cruz. The music isn't too loud, perfect level to have in the background while conversing with someone. The coffee: very good. I'm a fan of Coffee Bar and Blue Bottle and I'd say that Java Beach is on par with both of these places, but no better. Food: I'd recommend the chicken club. Needed a place to study in the Sunset district of SF and found this nice joint in the Outer Sunset. They had everything I needed--power outlet, coffee, and food. I had a good 3 hour study session here. Be prepared to get cozy with other people when its busy. This cafe is literally right next to Ocean Beach so expect surfer crowds inside and ocean winds when you're outside. A proverbial walk on the beach is warranted here during study breaks. I haven't been to Java Beach in FOREVER! It's definitely been 5-7 years since the days that we would come here after school, but I have to admit - it's still money. Today I had the Kelly Cove - turkey and pesto. It was delicious! I practically had to force myself to finish it because I didn't want to waste such a tasty sandwich. All of the sandwiches come with some pretty tasty chips. I don't know anything about the chips, but they were crunchy, yummy, and looked of the homemade variety. I love the mix of people here as well. Today I saw San Jose Bike Police (supporting the breast cancer walk), older-aged tourists, a group of laptop-clad students, and a couple of surfers. All of the people working today were pleasant. The weather was gorgeous. I enjoyed the outdoor seating and free wi-fi on a nice San Francisco afternoon. I would definitely come here again! read more

Java Beach is a great place to sit down and read a book or do some work on your laptop with free internet access. The house coffee is nice and just the overall atmosphere is nice with indoor and outdoor seating. I've been here a couple of times and have only been disappointeda few times. Once was for gross bagels and the other for narsty piroshkis. I think if I go to a coffee joint, I'll just stick with the coffee or hot chocolate. Other than that it's a nice cozy place. read more

This place has gone to shit. I grew up going here and now the quality and vibe has suffered Most recently was my last straw. I ordered a hot veggie sandwich that is $14. The price is one thing but they fucked it all up. I said no lettuce and even the ticket says no lettuce and it's loaded with lettuce. They smothered it in mustard and the last failed to mention it comes with mustard when I asked. Also, literally the tiniest slither of Avocado and only on one side. For a veggie sandwich that's $14 you expect at least a normal amount let alone a slither on one side. Lost my business for good, and to think I drove I t of the way to support a business I grew up going to. read more
