I used to live across the street from this place on Loring and it was my go-to place for coffee and food when a terrible hangover was upon me. I absolutely love their iced Mocha. I actually haven't tried any other coffee there because I liked it so much. It is the perfect blend of chocolate and coffee without being too sweet! I also always got their spicy chipotle turkey sandwich with avocado and chipotle mayo with a side salad. Deeelicious. The real winner is their acai bowl know as the "Acai Works". It's an acai sorbet topped with bananas, strawberries, granola, and bee pollen. My boyfriend and I add some honey on top to seal the deal. It's an awesome breakfast or healthy snack on a hot day. While visiting friends in San Diego, I asked where I could grab a bite to eat during the day while they were at work. With nearly unanimous consent (all except Evan, who is contrary by nature) they recommended I swing by Java Earth. I looked it up on Yelp to read some reviews (I'm skeptical by nature) and it looked promising. I pulled up and parked out front of a funky little building lined with chairs and shade umbrellas. When I walked inside I was greeted with an energetic, "Hi!" and a great big smiles from the girls behind the counter. I was almost taken back by such a warm greeting after having spent hours traveling and dealing with service industry drones at airports, serving processed patty pucks with a vacant stare. These girls were not soul-broken service drones, but were pleasant and cheerful girls who were genuinely happy to see me. Having never been there before, I leaned on the daily special for my lunch order. I had a turkey sandwich, layered with tomato, avocado, cucumber, humus, and a homemade balsamic dressing. The whole experience can only be described as comforting. It was the kind of wholesome, delicious sandwich that a man gets when visiting parents after a long absence and his mother over-zealously works in the kitchen. With mellow music on the stereo and a stomach full of sandwich, I didn't want to leave. I went back to the counter where I was again greeted with a warm, friendly smile. I ordered a latte to serve as my digestif. I watched as the barista carefully measured the portions rather that haphazardly whip it all together. As a result, the latte was balanced and smooth, with a wonderful flavor. I grew up in a small Idaho town, the kind where everyone knows you personally and have since you were just a kid. Stores were owned by individuals, not corporations, and the shopkeepers were always thrilled to have a customer and treated you like family. The regulars hold early morning hours outside greeting everyone with a smile and a "good morning" there's often a quick chat before and a pet of a dog on the way in/out. After a couple of visits the baristas will know your name. It's Mecca for people working remotely and it's set up to accommodate the many laptops on a community table while still having plenty of space for non-laptop packing customers to eat. 5 stars for the fact that I get to take my dog in with me while I study. Completely relieves the fact that sometimes I'm out studying and my little man is in a cage cooped up. Besides that delightful fact, the staff is extremely nice and accomodating, the place is nice and clean. It can be a little cluttered but I think that's what gives it that cozy home-y feel. THE COFFEE: okay for any regular place a 12oz coffee drink generally has 2 espresso shots if not sometimes one. This place adds THREE, count'em THREE! This place is honestly the place to be. Java Earth Café is a super cute cafe located in North Pacific Beach. Finding good customer service is always difficult but not at this place. The second you walk in, you are immediately greeted by the employees with a warm smile. The food there is always great. The first thing you notice upon walking in is the warm and comfortable atmosphere. They remember you by name and if you come here enough they will start your 'usual' before you even have to ask. I was wrapping up a 20 mile run with some friends and started getting that crazy rumble that indicated the I better get some food FAST. It was late morning on a Sunday in PB so as you can imagine, everywhere was swamped. My girls and I realized we really just wanted a smoothie or ... an acai bowl. Java Earth magically appeared and we wandered in. First, their coffee is exceptional. The inside is so airy and bright and they have some really cool art on the walls. The patrons were pretty quiet for PB, lots of student-types with their laptops etc. They have soy milk which is awesome for me as I'm lactose intolerant. We all decided to get the Pitaya Bowl. The staff was so helpful at explaining what the fruit tasted like and what to expect, they even ran to the back to double check that the granola topping was gluten-free. The Pitaya bowl was like an acai bowl, blended fruit, granola and fresh sliced berries/bananas all topped with honey. So. freaking. good. I went to Java Earth Cafe because I was staying in PB for a week and it was close by and had good ratings. I opted for a chai latte and the girl asked what kind. I love when places have multiple types of chai lattes because it means they're popular. Or maybe it doesn't, but I like to think that it does. Anyway, I went with the girl's favorite because it sounded good - the coconut chai latte. This was the most unique chai latte I've had in the U.S. and it was delicious. Very coconuty due to the coconut milk and coconut syrup(?). They also have almond milk which is a big plus in my book. My boyfriend got a mocha and it was better than most, but not as good as the chai. They sell a lot of food (sandwiches, salads, pastries, and acai bowls) so I want to go back for breakfast/lunch some time. Java Earth is a Sunday tradition for me. The staff is fantastic, and there is a good amount of space to chill out or study or whatever you find yourself doing. The drinks are great, though I'm not actually a huge fan of coffee, I have found their honey latte to be delicious, and for those days when aren't feeling coffee, they do have a good selection of teas, smoothies and other drinks that I have always found satisfying. This place used to be a lot better, but recently they did a remodel. The remodel looks nice, quaint, good for studying, except it's noisy as noisy gets. The sound bounces off the walls, there is nothing to absorb it. You can hear EVERYTHING. Including the baristas gossip about their lives and their customers, which is unprofessional and uncomfortable. Additionally, they should put up a wall to block the noise of the dang espresso machine banging every five minutes. They have very soft music which seems to only be playing for the baristas. Why Java Earth!? Somehow, someway try and get the noise down. I agree with other recent reviewers, a couple of the baristas are always COLD, and seem like they are being bothered by...everything. Also food has gone WAY down hill. Cook must have changed in the back. My sandwich the other day was dry on one side, pesto on the other, the old cook put pesto on both sides! Also the side salad was wilted, dry, and brown. The good thing? The espresso is great. And they have lots of choices of milk. But I don't want to hear about drunk shenanigans the baristas get themselves into. It could all be fixed with something to absorb sound! Java Earth is not as hippie-dippy as it's name would have you believe... there's a good mix of breakfast options, a full coffee bar, and the interior doesn't reek of wet hemp sandals or dreadlocks. In fact, it's pretty cute. My mom ordered a bran muffin, which was sweeter than a cupcake. Dieters beware: you'd be better off just getting a danish. My sister had a breakfast bagel panini sandwich, which was smaller than anticipated, but she really liked it (I guess it's the perfect size for a 15 year old). I ordered the acai bowl with soy milk. The consistency was the thickest and creamiest of any bowl I've had in San Diego, and it came with a shitload of sweetened granola on top and on the bottom. The berries and banana were fresh and tasty, and there was even a bit of bee pollen sprinkled on top (bonus points)! The only downside was that it was too sweet for me, but if they tone down the sugar level, I'd definitely order it again. Overall, Java's a sweet little cafe with options to please every just about anyone, and one of the better acai bowls in the area, especially if you're a granola fiend. read more

I always order a soy latte because I can't have dairy so my bill is about $4.15 for a medium...that includes 3 shots! unlike Starbucks stingy 2 shots per medium for around the same price! Great breakfast spot in PB and the service is always good. If you like breakfast sandwiches, try the mediterranean breakfast sandwich on a croissant. It's vegetarian, but also very tasty. The croissant is always so fluffy and delicious and not too greasy. The kalamata olives and pesto give the eggs a great mediterranean testure and taste! SO GOOD! Also add avocado for extra freshness. By my third or fourth visit they knew my name and had my favorite cup waiting for me by the time I got to the front of the line... No joke. They now have a patron for life. Nice little coffee shop close to home. I stopped in and ordered the pitaya works bowl but they were out of pitaya so I got the acai instead. I also ordered an iced coffee. Prices are decent and the bowl was very good. My boyfriend got a matcha and it was delicious as well. 4 stars because the service was pretty slow despite the fact that not many people were in there. They have a ton of breakfast and lunch options ranging from bowls, to wraps to salads. They also have a good seating area that would be perfect for studying. I'll be back. read more

Stopped in and there was quite a line...booo. It was a little slow to get food/drinks, but I'll take slow and a great drink and food anyday. The girls that worked there were nice. I have been coming here for years, i don't usually have my phone because i usually go after we hit the beach. Hence the low number of check ins. In coming here for so long there are a couple things that are pretty constant. 1) the menu is solid, ie pretty good. The honey vanilla latte is off the hook good and the coffee is pretty tasty too. 2). The service is usually awful. You can be standing in line with no one else in line and four people behind the counter and you wont get acknowledged. This has been a common trent whenever i come here no matter who is behind the counter. And if there are a bunch of people in line, the service is even worse. This leads me to believe that service isn't something that is important, however they have the opportunity to give tips every where. Ie tip jars and in credit card receipts. Thus, their crappy service is quite perplexing. I will continue to go here when it is convenient but i wont go out of my way to go here. read more
