Holy yum! This is quite possibly the most delicious food I've had in a while. I ordered the Gujarati Thali for dinner to go and just devoured most of it in my bedroom. It was a pretty large portion, I'll have some left over for tomorrow (yay!). I highly recommend this meal at least, and since there was such a variety of delicious things in it, I feel safe recommending the restaurant. I can't wait to go back for more already! read more

We were at this restaurant on Wednesday 9th November around 630 pm. Ordered our dishes and sat down for the waiter to bring our food. When the food was served I started to eat and I found that the green chatni wasn't eno ugh,so went to the counter to request for more. It was delivered but before I put it in I thought I would taste it just in case it was spicy,but to my surprise it was fermented. Now this place has been here for Sooooo many years. they have no idea how to store a simple sauce? Anyway my friend got up and asked the gentleman at the counter "when did you prepare this green Chatni" guess what was the answer...we make this fresh every day....so I told him it's bad so he goes in the back never showed up at the counter...there was no apology ...how sad is this? its pathetic... read more

Very inexpensive with a lot of kick. It's surprising how hard it is to find cheap spicy food in LA, which is only odd due to the wide variety of cultural influence southern ca has. However this little spot in Artesia has really great food for a very reasonable price. The staff was very nice, and made special efforts to teach us the proper way to eat our meals as well as when we wandered up to pay and were eying their selection of treats, gave us a few samples to help figure out what we might like. The standouts were the samosas and the masala dhosa, which paired well with a rose lassi. For dessert the burfee triple gold, which tasted as though a spice market exploded in my mouth, but in a good way. read more

I like the place because the food is solid, the prices are low, it's clean, and the service is good. Still, I don't like the way they prepare patra (dried out and crunchy, lacking serious savory flavor), and I've yet to be excited by anything I've tried (even after sampling 10+ of the mithai sweets). Was going to eat at The India Restaurant but since it is renovating, had to find a new place to eat. So in yelp, found this place. Parking lot is tiny but at least it has an entrance and an exit. No crazy U turn. Parked down the street it was easier. Have to grab a table then go order at the counter. It's hard to figure out who is helping whom but they do have a menu you can take back to look at at your table. Anyway... food was tasty. More like a hole-in-the-wall place but the food was good. Dosa's were tasty and the Idlly were also. Their pista kulfi tasted pretty good also. Except I ordered Pista Bulfi but whatever, got ice cream instead! woo! Only bad thing is this place has slow service, got our order wrong, and the food comes out in little spurts...guess they want to make sure everyone gets at least one plate of food while they wait for everyone else's food. Had an argument with the guy about our food not coming. He said it came but it didnt. Good think i remembered the names of the dishes. Not particularly friendly. Definitely some good Indian food here. They got these plates there that have a variety of curry and other Indian dishes. I recommend getting one of those, although I can't recall the name right now. I definitely liked it. As a note: I only saw vegetarian things on the menu. Everything had great flavor, and the food came out quick. I didn't like the yogurt drink... just not a fan of that stuff. The dessert they give you with it is sweet and delicious. Would come back more for just that, but definitely one of the better Indian foods I have enjoyed eating. read more

Tried pani-puri, dry veg manchurian, khandvi and chiku shake. Puri were not crispy, manchurian masala was good but from inside it was chewy and empty (like no veggies in there). 3.5 stars. I'm rounding up for the rating because I grew up on this stuff. BAD: I'm Gujarati, so I avoid all the thali dishes (since I can make better at home). Truthfully, that's the one thing at the restaurant I avoid. It's the typical Gujarati meal, and if someone wants to know it, I tell them to go there. But it's pretty embarrassing when I take people there and don't get it, because I find it terrible. I find the veggies greasy, the dal dull, and the rice washed out. I also find the food terribly salty. GOOD: But the appetizers and the South Indian stuff (because, face it, EVERYONE loves South Indian food) are great. When things get catered, it's usually these items that are served, not the thari dishes. I also like the veggie burger. It's aimed for the children of the parents who go there. It's funny, because I'm a gosh darn grown up. At the temple growing up I always went with the adult choices instead of the kid's option. But, well, their veggie burger is good. But lacks protein, so I get it with an order of kachori. So, if you want a typical Guju meal...find a Gujarati person and invite yourself over (usually we'll be happy to feed you, we love it when people love our food). But if you want yummy appetizers, a great veggie burger, or decent Gujarati interpretation of South Indian food, go to Jay Bharat. read more

Their pizza samosas are the best kind of samosas in the WORLD! Never gets old. The thali is delish. I took my Tajik friends here and some of the veggie dishes in the thali were a bit too spicy for them and when I tried it, it was mild and this review is coming from someone who can't eat spicy food. Ok, anyone who gave this a few stars: the lease is up on the loner taste buds, please return them to the service department at Walmart (either that or put the cap back on the model glue, you've had enough). This place is a culinary adventure of the highest order. This is not just another indian place turning out huge helpings of gruel. It is like a tasting menu at a fabulous gourmet restaurant. Every time there are surprises, and yet, plenty of regularly great stuff you can order to keep the whole experience grounded. The little standard issue desert that came with the combo Thali I had today was insanely good!: a wild, tangy, creamy concoction with little bits of pistachio providing crunch. If this place were down the street I would be there 2x a week; puts most indian restaurants to shame. read more

This unassuming place is clean, well-lighted, and not expensive. For these reasons, I keep going there instead of Ashoka or Rajdani.

As I say in other reviews, I am sucker for service. Now, Jay Bharat is a place where there is no service component to rate, since you order your dish at the counter, and they just get the food to you. But the food - oh its the best in Artesia. I am Indian, and tend to prefer Indian veg food when I eat out at Indian restaurants. Having eaten at the other alternatives like Rasraj, Rajdhani etc (which are all great- dont get me wrong). Jay bharat has that little extra that makes me want to drive 30 miles every now and then to eat their Kathiawadi thali again. Even for those who are not used to the concept, you should try the Bajra Roti with Gud (jaggery) combo that is part of this thali. read more

This is my favorite place in Artesia! So much that I often drive down 20 miles to eat here. No frills place so don't expect 5 star service. The food more than makes up for it though. Chat is awesome! So are the South Indian dishes. Makes me miss home less! read more

Absolutely terrible experience this time around. We have been a regular customer for several years now and the quality of this restaurant has gone downhill significantly-both in their food and their service. First off, if there's a party of 7 or more people, they should call in ahead of time. A group of people just walk in and stand in the middle of the restaurant like chickens with their heads cut off. It's an utter disturbance to the people already sitting and eating. Secondly, when ordering food, the meals should come out of the kitchen at the same time. There was about a 15 minute wait between our orders coming out. The food was subpar, at best. Lastly, the noise level of this restaurant is through the roof. The people here have no manners or common sense when it comes to proper restaurant etiquette. Overall, terrible experience. So horrendous that we are never coming back here again. A bit on the spicier side sometimes compared to Gujarati flavor so maybe ask for less spicy but better than some of the other places around it that have a better brand name. The food is incredible and the prices are unbeatable! You go up to the register to order your food and it comes out really fast. The masala dosa had a really authentic texture and the filling was great. The puri with two veggie curries was so good for only $4. It really filled me up.
