[Grade: A] [Worth it ($)?: 7.5/10 - Great flavours, but a little expensive] Realizing I forgot to write my review from my visit a while back, I needed to make sure people knew that this place is the real deal. I drove an hour to get to Jayd Bun and let me tell you, it was worth every second of that drive. When people say they're rated #1, it makes you wonder why right? After my visit here, I didn't have to wonder anymore. Let's start with my star of the show: the Jinjin dumplings. These little pockets of heaven were saturated with flavour. The filling was delicious, but it was the sauce that really blew it out of the water. It had just the right amount of sweetness and tanginess to complement the savory filling, and it was so addictively delicious that I couldn't stop dipping my dumplings in it. I definitely have to double my order of these next time I make my way back! But that's not all - the Pan Fried Bao Buns were my runner-up to this incredible show of flavour. They were the perfect size, not too big or too small. The pork filling was juicy, savory, and perfectly seasoned, while the buns themselves were cooked to perfection with just the right amount of crispiness. I had to stop myself from finishing all of them so I could try the rest of my food! And then there was the Chinese beef patty - a delightful explosion of juiciness in every bite. If you don't believe me, you can see how juicy it is in my photos. The beef was cooked to perfection and had a wonderful aroma that made my mouth water. To round off my meal, I tried the Jayd Beef Noodle Soup, a warming bowl of comfort and pleasure that hit all the right spots. The broth was incredibly flavourful and the beef chunks were tender and succulent. While I enjoyed the dish, I did feel that it could have used a bit more bok choy, as I only had a couple small pieces. I'd also suggest serving the broth and noodles separately to prevent the noodles from becoming overcooked as it all came in one container (just a small thing tho!). Overall, Jayd Bun is a must-visit for anyone looking for authentic Chinese comfort food. Yes, it's a bit pricey, but the quality of the food and the work that goes into each dish makes it worth every penny. I can't recommend this restaurant enough - order ahead and go check it out!! What a pleasing surprise! Friend suggested this place for a quick lunch near University of Rhode Island and it wasn't disappointing. The Bao Zi is authentic and is delicious. Though most orders are take outs, they carved out a small area in parking lot and neatly set up three tables for quick lunch onsite. It takes time to cook hot and fresh Bao Zi. Each batch takes 45 minutes. So it will be smart to call beforehand and avoid the wait. read more

My boyfriend and I stumbled upon Jayd Bun when we stopped during our bike ride and needed some water. Joe was so kind to us then, and when we looked at the dinner menu, we knew we had to come back and try more than just bottled water (lol). We ordered the same night and got the Jayd Fusion, pork Jin Jin dumplings, and pork buns. To say these were delicious was an understatement! Normally Jayd Bun is 5 stars every day. I will need to post next time they are to make up for this one. First mistake was not ordering early. Went to Whalers (5 stars also if you could rate) to have a beer and catch up with my wife after being away all week. While there decided to order before the kids got home. We decided on Jayd Bun. Was told it would be ready in 50 minutes. Got there and had to wait which is typical if you don't order ahead. Young lady gave me a drink for waiting and said it would be a little longer. I asked how long and said it was because I'd take my wife home and come back. That way she could get home before the kids. This was not said in frustration. I just wanted to know how much longer because we needed to have someone home before the kids got back. I'm not sure what was said in the kitchen, but next thing you know the young lady said they would get it to me now and handed me the bag. When we got home we were one bun short per the picture below. Of note, they were busy and seemed like they were a little stressed. Again, need to order early. If you saw how much thought we put into the number of buns we needed for us and the kids at Whalers it would be comical. One other thing that added to the experience was trying to get a gift card for a charity event. After I walked out to the car my wife reminded me to get a gift card so it could be raffled (I wished we checked the food while I went back in hindsight). I walked back in and asked for the dollar figure to apply to the gift card. Owner was very appreciative. Because I was paying with my debit card (I rarely carry cash) there was an up charge to the gift card we were getting for the event. Although there is a note on the shelf I hadn't noticed it before and didn't realize I was paying an extra charge every time I used my card there. One of the staff told me to pay cash if I didn't want to pay the charge. I decided to get the card at another restaurant. This was based on principle of having to pay more for a gift card I was donating than its value to the end user. Some may say carry cash and that is fine. I'm so sorry to do this. I had high expectations. Lots of hype on this little hole-in-the-wall takeout joint. (It is literally a hole-in-the-wall!) The buns were ok. Not sure they were worth the effort. Ordered b phone with an hour wait time, then waited inside this tiny, crowded no frills spot for over 1/2 hour. The gentleman/owner is hilarious calling out the orders and having conversations with the regulars and customers. Very upbeat. I'm just not someone who craves buns. They are rated the #1 place to eat in Yankee Trader ... and are on all the "must try" lists. It's just not for me, but definitely worth a try for bun lovers!! Hands down, the most flavorful and best quality Chinese food you'll find in South County. I can't say enough great things. The buns are obviously a go-to along with the Jin Jin dumplings. This is an authentic (Baozi) Chinese noodle and bun place. If you want the traditional American Chinese food restaurant with the menus that look the same, this isn't it. I had the Spicy Tomato Noodle. It was fresh and flavorful. The noodles were tender and delicious. It appears that nothing sits in a pan anywhere. It takes 15 minutes or so to get your order. I appreciated that all the more, and the food is worth the wait. The husband of the husband-wife owner team is extremely friendly (in a genuine way). He clearly takes pride in their little place. (I didn't meet his wife, but I'm sure she is as well.). He offered me a taste of their family recipe Congee (a spicy porridge with ginger). We drove down from PVD to check out this restaurant. Be aware, this place is takeout only, which definitely cuts down on the ambiance as you are either eating at home or on picnic tables outside. So be aware that you should call in an order ahead of time. To cut to the chase, I thought the food was pretty good but far from Best in New England. My family was largely underwhelmed. We found the apps better than the entrees. The buns were tasty. Dumplings were ok but pretty standard. Jade fusion pancake was decent fare. Would be great at half the price. $12-16 for apps to eat on picnic tables is a bit much IMHO. We were less enamored with the entrees. The cool part was the fact that the noodles were handmade. Love that. However, the wonton noodles were rather bland and lacked flavor. The October noodle had an odd spicy flavor that my son just couldn't appreciate. Spicy yo po was probably the best and had a kimchee-type flavor which seemed more Korean than Chinese. Lastly, I had the Ja Jen men noodles. Traditionally these are considered peasant food by the Chinese (although they are enjoyed by Koreans), so I found it funny that they were some of the priciest noodles on the menu. They were OK but nothing to write home about. Conclusion: Decent Chinese food? Yes. Amazing? Not really. Best in New England? - especially with the takeout experience, it's gotta be a no. Yesterday we finally took the 45 trip from CT to Jayd Bun in South Kingstown, RI and man we were beyond pleased with our surprise choices. I call it surprise choices because I got there and I gave Joe some ideas of what I was looking for and he delivered. We had the Yo po Noodle with the egg on top, wonton soups, spicy wontons, chicken bao buns and pork JinJin dumplings. The thought put in every ingredient and flavor on each of the dishes was very impressive, no wonder they have received so many deserving accolades. When my picky grandkids ate it and my preggo daughter didn't complain of heartburn after eating it proved that the food was for the whole family. I wish this spot was closer to me. I rarely venture out of South County so I was excited that hubby had some errands to run in Wakefield. We ordered 3 orders of pork buns. Yes. They are THAT good. 3 boxes is enough for a family of 4 (3 adults one 10 year old). I really like the little changes they've done (with take out). The sweet soy sauce (heavenly manna) is now in black cups. The black vinegar sauce is still in the clear cups. It has a very pungent and sour taste. But I found that if you mix both sauces together, you get a near perfect dumpling sauce. You can also distinguish them apart by the scallions floating inside the sweet soy sauce. The boxes of buns now have a snazzy Jayd Bun logo. Also they are now offering their sweet soy sauce and their Dragon Fire-Yum-Tastic hot chili paste for sale in larger containers. I'm quite certain they did that for me. I would bring my mason jar and have them fill it up for me. Please please please come here and support a wonderful local business! Whalers brewery is right across the street so it was a great opportunity to check that out as well. I would wait hours for this food.
