Yesterday was the first time I've been to Jayd Bun. I found them on social media. The buns (BAO) were fantastic! I've been to China several times with my wife, and her parents gave me some; Chef Anne's bao revival those. A few years later, my in-laws moved to the USA, and my mother-in-law used to make them. Chef Anne's are better. Every dish is made to order, and you can tell. I cannot say enough good things about the boa. We will be back many times and will try many other dishes. read more

Finally made it to Jayd Bun today after watching all the yummy buns on instagram and Facebook and they did not disappoint! I placed my order a couple days in advance via email and it was ready pretty much on time and when I arrived there was quite a few people waiting for orders and I was greeted by the most pleasant young girl putting the orders together. I told her it was my first time there and she seemed just as excited for me to try the food as I was. I was extremely impressed with the food and they even gave us a couple extra orders of things to try that we didn't order just for being our first time. I thought that was very generous. Absolutely delicious! Jaydbun Asian Food completely blew us away! Every single bite was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. The bao buns were incredible, the wonton soup was comforting and perfectly seasoned, and the dumplings and noodles were next-level good -- the kind of food you keep thinking about long after the meal is over. On top of the amazing food, the service was so friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. We're visiting from Florida, and honestly, I'm already sad knowing I won't have this food back home. If you're anywhere near Jaydbun, do yourself a favor and go -- this is the kind of place you crave and wish you could bring with you. This is a manufacturered overhyped place. There is no reason they need to play games with the ordering ahead and whatnot. Every other restaurant on earth, including authentic Chinese places in Boston and NYC, have normal food prep and can deliver delicious made-to-order food in a normal amount of time. This place has created this fake demand that people are falling for, including myself, and the food isn't worth the wait or price. Save yourself the hassle. It's basically like "world's best pizza" on every street corner in NYC. The signs inside the place are all made up and framed, making it look like they're been around winning awards for decades. P.S. if you don't believe me do your own research here or on Reddit about how the owner has created a false demand, pay for overrated reviews, fights with people giving low stars, and offers free meals to those writing higher star reviews. We were excited to try this spot after seeing all the buzz on social media and hearing how popular it's become. You can definitely tell a lot of care goes into the food. The noodles are freshly made in-house, which is impressive and something you don't find everywhere. For us, they did tend to stick together quite a bit (we even ended up using tongs to separate them more easily), but it was still nice knowing they were homemade. The buns were ok- very doughy and clearly made fresh. The wonton noodle soup was mild and simple, which we didn't mind. The spicy wontons weren't quite what we expected presentation-wise compared to photos we had seen in other reviews, but flavors can always vary. My personal favorite dish was the Jin Jins ......those really stood out. We did drive about an hour to get there and ended up eating our meal across the street at Whaler Brewery, which turned out to be a highlight for our family. The kids had a great time playing games, and the atmosphere was fun and relaxed. Overall, we're glad we tried it and appreciate the effort and freshness that goes into the food. With the advance ordering and travel involved, it'll likely be a one-time visit for us. read more

Yes. It's worth the hype. We've been going here since day one which was 2019. and their quality has NOT changed from the best. They have kept it original since day one with their food and service. The food is amazing and it is such a feel good food. Unlike other Chinese, you don't feel like crap after it. This is REAL homemade food that you feel amazing after. They were huge! We had both the chicken and the pork. Spectacular! Now, I have to comment on the actual experience. I've been following Jayd Bun for probably 2-3 years now on Facebook. Drove 1.5h and had a 4.5h wait (no complaints about the wait. I was expecting that, they were very clear there would be a wait & food was warm and ready right when we got there). I took my first bite of my bun and it was just all tough dough. No flavor. The second bite had a lot of yummy flavor and it was great but for a restaurant that is #2 in the country, every bite should have flavor. Maybe I'm not taking big enough bites? I'm comparing them to ones my roommate's (who was born and raised in China) grandma made. With her buns, each bite had immense flavor and were super juicy. I wish I got the Jin Jin's I think those would have been SO GOOD, especially given how juicy and delicious the filling of the buns were. The ja Jen men was decent, but again, nothing worth driving 1.5h for. Perhaps they just had an off day but personally I didn't think this was worth the drive. I like jayd buns and I cannot lie. These were juicy! At first bite juices were leaking everywhere. The bottom had a nice crunch from being pan fried and good chewiness. Seriously these buns are authentic in flavor. Try it with the vinegar it balances out the richness of the filling. I have been dying to try this spot. We called in ahead of time (took 3x of busy dial tone but finally got through). Once arriving to pick up our food, the guy (Joe) at the front was SO friendly. His excitement and energy brightened my day. I appreciate when owners appreciate the new customers and not just cater to their regulars. We ordered pork buns and jing jing dumplings. Honestly, pork buns were a 9.5/10, but the dumplings were not my favorite. I'm a huge dumpling lover and they just didn't do it for me. The side sauces were yummy. I would come back for more pork buns if I'm in the area, but otherwise wouldn't drive 40min again for this spot. The parking situation was fine but the parking lot was not plowed/very icy after a snowfall multiple days prior. This place is one-of-kind. I'd heard rave reviews, but not until my mom was in town did we experience the amazing food and service that Jayd Bun is known for. Ever the indecisive duo, the owner graciously made recommendations and guided us through the menu must-haves (which is honestly everything, there are no misses), and let us sample an app we hadn't even considered. Flavor for daysssss, and you can just tell the food is made with so much love! We had such a nice conversation and heard the origin story of how the restaurant came to be- we were so happy to have made the drive from Newport for pick up. My mom lives states away but has spoken of this place frequently, and now that I've moved to Wakefield, she is so excited for her next visit so we can visit this local gem. Especially excited outside dining in the spring. As an aside- I popped into another local establishment and somehow we got to talking Jayd Bun, and that owner also talked about how nice this family was. Did a quick tour of URI with the family and decided to get some lunch. We just couldn't pass on the hype of being #2 in the country and hand made everything, from the noodles to the buns and wontons and what's crazy is, it's a takeaway joint. I mean... how good can a takeaway be, especially since the whole family are high standard foodies with a very seasoned, international pallet. It's a little shack from the outside, very little seating outside and a small carpark outside. I was looking forward to eating outside but it started thunder storming so had to pick up the food (an hour after calling and an extra 10min wait) after we grabbed a quick drink at a nearby tavern to wet the appetite. At this point we had no choice but to find a parking spot and eat in the car. This food had better be good at this point. We got the spicy wontons - these have a delicious spice that builds up bite after bite. The home made pork mix and wrapping, bathing in the authentic sauce slides down your throat and you can't help but get more. Jin Jin dumplings- excellent generous savory pork mix again wrapped in delicate wrapping that you can tell is home made as instantly as you bite into it. This was my 5 year old's favorite and I've never seen her eat so many dumplings ever. Pan fried pork buns - take your first bite from half the bottom and side to form a well to pour a little dumpling sauce into it, and omg is all I have to say. It's the perfect accompaniment to balance out the spicy dishes, just so you can go back to them. The spicy Yo Po- take your pick, are you the type to break up the egg and mix the yolk into the noodles or eat it in intervals? Either way the deliciousness of the fresh noodles absorbing the spicy sauce without being saturated is simply fantastic. The sauce is not the same as the spicy wonton sauce which made each dish unique and a pleasure with each bite. What an amazing experience.. it was only about the food, not the seating, atmosphere, the parking, the quality of service, the plastic utensils/ chopsticks. The place is take out or on a nice day they have tables out side also whalers brewery near by that lets you bring food in. But I think that adds to the vibe and lets you interact with owners ,they explain the different options and what would work with your tastes. I got the veg dumplings, the spicy noodles and pork dumplings it was so much food but it traveled well back to north Providence and was amazing reheated for lunch the next day. I ordered 2 days ago with the time I wanted to pick up & quickly got a confirmation back. I ordered their spicy yo po, Jayd fusion pancakes and the Jayd noodle which is a cold dish with this crispy Okra, it is out of this world. I asked to add some protein to it and Joe did it without any hesitation. Talk about accommodating! The customer service here is 20 out of 10. He is bubbly, funny, generous and thoughtful and his young daughter is the ultimate hostess passing out drinks, plates and cutlery with a smile. He wanted me to try their new Green Monstah dish which was amazing! I was hesitant at first as I am not a fan of olives, but could barely taste them. This noodle dish was packed with ground chicken, potato, red pepper, celery, zucchini, scallion, & garlic, if you like spicy, this is the dish for you!! We started with the Bun Combo - 3 pan fried buns (choice of pork, chicken or veg), choice of tomato noodle or wonton noodle soup, edamame & bottle of water. I wish I had taken a photo after I bit into it because it was flavorsome & beautiful. We selected the wonton noodle soup - delicious handmade wontons in a savory pork broth, baby bok choi, dropped egg, scallion & sesame oil. This soup will cure all that ills you! I was most looking forward to trying the spicy wontons - 12 delicious handmade wontons filled with savory pork & covered in the most mind blowing super spicy sauce you will ever taste & mixed with baby bok choi. Great to mix with all our other dishes! "Want it less spicy? Drink milk!" (Jayd Bun verbiage!) Yes, it was so spicy that my nose tingled but I could stop eating them. And we dunked our chicken buns into the sauce. We also poured some of the sauce over our noodles. You can't go to Jayd Bun and not order the noodles. We went with the warm noodles: October - perfectly thick and delicious handmade noodles topped with savory ground pork, pickled napa, scallions & mixed with a savory flavor you have never experienced. "If you like spicy, it's not very spicy. If you don't, then it is." (Jayd Bun verbiage) Next to the spicy wontons, this was tame but, by itself, I could see it being a bit spicy for some people. I was really excited to try this place, but I was a little let down by the noodles. I enjoyed the buns a lot, as they were flavorful, fluffy, and crispy on the bottom. The noodles were not as flavorful and tasted kind of Americanized from what I was expecting. My parents weren't huge fans of the wonton soup or the beef noodle soup and mentioned it was a little too salty. There was a long wait, but that was to be expected from the numerous signs they have about it taking time. The cost is pretty pricey compared to what you could get at a China town in Boston. I would probably go back for the buns and maybe try the dumplings, since driving here is a lot closer than Boston! read more
