Personally nothing was insane best thing for me was the potstickers(savory beef I think) and my wife liked the chicken buns but even then we've had way better. The potstickers, and buns weren't well seasoned and lacked flavor. Spicy wontons was pretty much chilli oil flavored and the October noodles just sucked straight up. It costed 70 something which was kind of a rip off. Very disappointed honestly I hate influencers online who think they have an actual palette. It's not hard to know what actual good food is. Drove 1.5h and had a 4.5h wait (no complaints about the wait. I was expecting that, they were very clear there would be a wait & food was warm and ready right when we got there). However, I quickly learned that perhaps their marketing skills are the superior skill. I got chicken buns, pork buns, and ja jen men pasta. I took my first bite of my bun and it was just all tough dough. No flavor. The second bite had a lot of yummy flavor and it was great but for a restaurant that is #2 in the country, every bite should have flavor. Maybe I'm not taking big enough bites? I'm comparing them to ones my roommate's (who was born and raised in China) grandma made. With her buns, each bite had immense flavor and were super juicy. I wish I got the Jin Jin's I think those would have been SO GOOD, especially given how juicy and delicious the filling of the buns were. Yesterday was the first time I've been to Jayd Bun. I found them on social media. The buns (BAO) were fantastic! I've been to China several times with my wife, and her parents gave me some; Chef Anne's bao revival those. A few years later, my in-laws moved to the USA, and my mother-in-law used to make them. I like jayd buns and I cannot lie. These were juicy! At first bite juices were leaking everywhere. The bottom had a nice crunch from being pan fried and good chewiness. Seriously these buns are authentic in flavor. Try it with the vinegar it balances out the richness of the filling. The upbeat upbeat friendly happy service I received was delightful! I brought my meal home, googled the best way to reheat dumplings, and found it worked beautifully! The dumpling dough was thicker than I expected and it, the pork filling, and the dipping sauce were delicate, perfectly flavored and delicious! Honestly, pork buns were a 9.5/10, but the dumplings were not my favorite. I'm a huge dumpling lover and they just didn't do it for me. The side sauces were yummy. I would come back for more pork buns if I'm in the area, but otherwise wouldn't drive 40min again for this spot. The parking situation was fine but the parking lot was not plowed/very icy after a snowfall multiple days prior. Flavor for daysssss, and you can just tell the food is made with so much love! We had such a nice conversation and heard the origin story of how the restaurant came to be- we were so happy to have made the drive from Newport for pick up. My mom lives states away but has spoken of this place frequently, and now that I've moved to Wakefield, she is so excited for her next visit so we can visit this local gem. Did a quick tour of URI with the family and decided to get some lunch. We just couldn't pass on the hype of being #2 in the country and hand made everything, from the noodles to the buns and wontons and what's crazy is, it's a takeaway joint. I mean... how good can a takeaway be, especially since the whole family are high standard foodies with a very seasoned, international pallet. It's a little shack from the outside, very little seating outside and a small carpark outside. I was looking forward to eating outside but it started thunder storming so had to pick up the food (an hour after calling and an extra 10min wait) after we grabbed a quick drink at a nearby tavern to wet the appetite. At this point we had no choice but to find a parking spot and eat in the car. This food had better be good at this point. We got the spicy wontons - these have a delicious spice that builds up bite after bite. The home made pork mix and wrapping, bathing in the authentic sauce slides down your throat and you can't help but get more. Jin Jin dumplings- excellent generous savory pork mix again wrapped in delicate wrapping that you can tell is home made as instantly as you bite into it. This was my 5 year old's favorite and I've never seen her eat so many dumplings ever. Pan fried pork buns - take your first bite from half the bottom and side to form a well to pour a little dumpling sauce into it, and omg is all I have to say. It's the perfect accompaniment to balance out the spicy dishes, just so you can go back to them. The spicy Yo Po- take your pick, are you the type to break up the egg and mix the yolk into the noodles or eat it in intervals? Either way the deliciousness of the fresh noodles absorbing the spicy sauce without being saturated is simply fantastic. The sauce is not the same as the spicy wonton sauce which made each dish unique and a pleasure with each bite. What an amazing experience.. it was only about the food, not the seating, atmosphere, the parking, the quality of service, the plastic utensils/ chopsticks. To start off, the food was absolutely amazing. Everything was delicious and everyone was ecstatic about their order. The process: Ordered food for 14 people in total and the whole ordeal was painless. Placed the order a week in advance and heard back from them on Wednesday confirming the order. I was really excited to try this place, but I was a little let down by the noodles. I enjoyed the buns a lot, as they were flavorful, fluffy, and crispy on the bottom. The noodles were not as flavorful and tasted kind of Americanized from what I was expecting. My parents weren't huge fans of the wonton soup or the beef noodle soup and mentioned it was a little too salty. There was a long wait, but that was to be expected from the numerous signs they have about it taking time. The cost is pretty pricey compared to what you could get at a China town in Boston.
