New Mandarin noodle Deli is located on the corner of Primrose and Las Tunas. There is street parking directly in front of the restaurant. We were seated immediately and the servers were very nice. We ordered Dry Noodle with House Special Sauce (zha jiang mien), Boiled Fish and Leek Dumpling, Stirred Bean Curd Sheet with Cold Sauce, Fish Fillet in Hot and Spicy Sauce, and a bowl of White Rice. The bean curds were the appetizer and came out first. It was very tasty and savory and was a nice start to our meal. There were thin bean curds mixed with carrot strips. The dry noodle came out next. We chose the thin cut noodles but there are a variety of other noodle types that you can choose from. I thought the noodles were a bit Bland but my wife enjoyed the texture and the chewiness of the noodles. The fish fillet in hot and spicy sauce came out next and we also added a bowl of white rice for a $2.50. I thought this dish was the best order that we had for today. Don't be frightened by the amount of chili peppers you see in the menu. The actual dish itself comes out with a lot less Chili Peppers and has more fish than what the picture shows. There also bean sprouts mixed in with the salt as well. The fish, bean sprouts, and sauce went very well over the white rice. You can address the spicy level to mild or regular. We went with the regular and the dish tasted just right. I would definitely order this again! Lastly, the wild fish and the dumplings came out. I think these took a while to come out because they make their dumplings in house and they were made fresh. Nevertheless, they were pretty good and we both enjoyed them. Our go to place when we're feeling some dumplings, noodles and just overall Taiwanese food. All the noodles are made in house and you definitely won't be disappointed. I don't know why we bother to look at the menu anymore cause we always order the same things. Here's our staple menu: Crushed cucumber appetizer. Just Persian cucumbers lightly smashed and marinated in some vinegar, oil and raw garlic. I will admit, it depends on the day cause some days the marinade sets in better than others but overall the cucumbers are always good and fresh. Simmered noodle soup with handle pulled noodles. My daughter's favorite and if we go with a bigger party that our family of four, we have to order two of these or else she gets sad that there's not enough for seconds (and thirds). The soup is simple and has cabbage, spinach, tomatoes, woodear mushrooms and pork but tastes like it's been simmered a while. It's a solid soup. We like the handle pulled noodles for maximum effect. Scallion pancakes are a traditional and must have Taiwanese dish. If it's done right, they're addicting and you won't be able to stop eating them. They're composed of many layers of dough and scallions so they're crispy and delicious. Think savory flat croissant. Pan fried meat dumplings. There's 8 pieces on a plate but I could order one plate just for myself and that would be enough to make me happy. They're fried just enough and they're still juicy inside so be careful of squirting hot liquid. The sauce that it comes with is delish as well, a perfect mix of soy sauce and vinegar. I always eat this over a bowl so that I can slurp up any soup that spilled out at the end. We've also had the knife cut fried noodles which are good but just not our fav. I got the cucumber salad and of course the beef noodle. The cucumber salad was flavorless. The beef noodle was decent but not the same. Service was okay. It was not busy but I still had to sit there and wait while the staff chit chatted. I always order the combination fried noodles with knife-cut noodles. It's extremely filling, basically two full meals for well under $20. I've been fewer than a handful of times until recently, and after one great visit we went back again within a week and a half just to see if it was consistent. It absolutely is. The food tastes incredibly fresh and you can tell the noodles are handmade. Super authentic, full of flavor, and very comforting. Every dish we ordered had that from scratch feel and nothing tasted rushed. The value is hard to beat. There were about nine of us, everyone ordered their own entrée, portions were huge, and we still had plenty to take home without the bill getting out of hand. That's rare these days. The kids loved it too, which makes it even easier for big family meals. One of those longtime neighborhood spots that reminds you why it's been there for so many years. It's my family's go-to spot when we are craving authentic comfort chinese food that tastes homemade. Their taste hasn't changed since we first visited, which I think says a lot. You can tell they put care into their quality. I highly recommend ordering the pork pan fried buns, pork and leek fried pancakes, beef noodle soup, and scallion chili oil dry noodles! The buns are always crispy and juicy and the braised beef tender. I've learned that they hand-make all their noodles and buns to order! Small mom and pop type standalone restaurant on a small corner in SGV. I came here a few times when I was working in the area specially to try their noodles and their pork pan buns. I would say the service is solid. I think there's just a little bit of timidness due to cultural or language barriers, but I thought the service was fine. I wasn't able to order the pork buns the first night (they need a certain amount of time and I arrived too late before closing time) so I came back a second night right after and they actually recognized me and laughed. On one visit I ordered the Shanxi house special noodle soup - w/ knife cut noodles. On another visit, I made sure to come in a little bit earlier to order their leek with pork pan cake (buns). They need a little more time to prepare those buns so I couldn't order them within the last half hour of closing on my previous visit. I think both dishes was a very good representation of what they are. Super delicious and I crave them from time to time even now. Delicious comfort food at its best. I also had their pork fried noodles (with mushrooms and bamboo shoots). Also very delicious and well prepared. This place came on my radar because I saw it on a post from an IG food account. The BF wanted to try this place tonight. We went with the House Pan Fried Dumpling, Beef roll, Pan Fried Buns with pork and leeks, and sauté green beans. Our favorites were definitely the house pan, fried dumplings, and the beef rolls. The House Pan fried dumpling had really thin skin and the pork was juicy and had great flavor. The beef rolls had a really nice crispy scallion pancake wrapped around lots of beef slices. It was definitely one of the best ones around the San Gabriel Valley. The pan fried bun had nice flavor, but the skin was way too thick. My least favorite was the green beans, they looked really sad and the flavor was just OK. Some pieces were salty, and others were bland. We will definitely be back to try more of their dishes, especially their pan fried dumplings. The food here is pretty good. The portions are great for the price and you definitely leave feeling full and getting your money's worth. The soups do tend to be a bit salty so just be mindful. The service is quick and prompt- exactly of what I'd expect of this place too. I've come here multiple times previously and have never left feeling disappointed nor sad so overall that's pretty good for me. Not sure why this place has such low ratings as we had a great experience. I ordered food ahead of time via their online platform. The do only accept day of orders, but you can still submit an order before they open. They had it ready for me on time. It's easier if you tell them it's an online order as they seem to keep those separate than call in orders. We got the shredded chicken cold noodle, beef wrap, and pan fried buns. We thought the chicken cold noodle was going to be a sesame cold noodle but with chicken. It's not. It's a drier sauce that's your typical soy sauce and garlic based mix, it was ok. The beef wrap was delicious though, very tender and flavorful meat with a flaky wrap, and then the pan fried buns were also amazing. Very juicy on the inside. The dough is a bit more airy and doughy then I'm used to, but still good and other who like a softer outside may prefer it. The shanxi noodles were next damn level, just order them cuz yeowzas! My husband is a self appointed hot and sour soup expert and he thought the soup here was phenomenal. Heavy on the black and white pepper but in a good way. The cold dishes were a delight, especially the dried bean curd sheet with cold sauce (not the sexiest name. lol) My favorite hands down though - Shanxi fries pancakes. One of my favorite noodle place around town. Serving authentic northern China style noodle, dumplings, wraps etc. A local shop that I frequent before the pandemic. Just gone back the first time after these few years, the the taste is basically the same as before. We order a noodle soup (the knife cutting style), an appetizer of marinated beef and tendon, and also XLB. The soup noodle tasted the same, huge portion to be shared among two. The noodle is chewy and did exactly right, the marinade beef is slightly spicy but overall yummy. The only problem that I had is the XLB. Maybe I am too used to Din Tai Fung kind of XLB, their XLB skin is a lot thicker than DTF. But I remembered that this is the kind of XLB that I ate when I was a kid. I can tell that someone just made it at the back (as you can tell by the irregular shape of each XLB). Overall, it's not bad, maybe not the kind that I like now. But it's still ok. read more

Pretty epic noodles here. Came twice this month because 2 friends were craving it. I tried the following items: TOMATO EGG NOODLE 8.5/10 - very flavorful, a little salty, and a delicious comfort meal. I'm pretty sure I can make this at home though SESAME COLD NOODLES 7/10 - They super undercooked my noodles so it was very al dente/hard. Flavor is not bad though. PORK AND CABBAGE DUMPLINGS 9/10 - Delicious dumplings! Plump, juicy, and the filling is generous! You can tell they make the skin in-house. BEEF BURRITO 10/10 - wow this is one of the best beef rolls I've had in a while. The skin in nice and juicy and the beef is super tender. Veggies inside are fresh and it comes with the perfect amount of sauce. LAMB NOODLE SOUP - 9.5/10 - VERY good lamb noodle soup. The noodles are chewy and satisfying. We ordered lamb noodle soup, house special noodle soup, beefcake, and two cold dishes, it takes good, Unfortunately, we both got stomachache afterward. I think is because the water they used is not good. Or maybe from the cold dish or maybe it just we had a sensitive stomachache on that day. After the much-undisclosed drama and change of ownership the monicker was changed and so did the quality of food. The menu has remained mostly the same throughout decades with this location seemingly having additional items. The quality and taste do appear to differ from their origins though. Although they offer more hand-pulled options, the dumplings here are not as delicate tasting and often times bland in filling. This restaurant specializes in knife-cut/hand pulled- noodles from the Shaanxi province of China it seems. What we tried: Braised beef noodle soup (good - 4 types of noodles to choose from), Pan Fried Meat Dumplings (very good), Beef Rolls (good), Cold Spicy Bean Curd (very good), Garlic Vinegar Cucumber appetizer (refreshing); and lastly the Xiao Long Bio Dumplings (XLB were awful: thick skin and undercooked).
