Once upon a time, JCPenney was one of a number of department stores at the Paradise Valley Mall. From the late 1970s until 2021, the PV Mall took up the space that is now considered the new PV redevelopment with new apartments, stores, restaurants, and more. JCPenney and Costco are the only stores on the inner part of the old PV Mall that are still there. JCPenney has functioned during all of the initial construction and continues to be open as new construction projects take place. My wife and I went to JCPenney this past weekend to take advantage of a Black Friday Doorbuster Sale. While the products, prices, and customer service were fine, the store didn't wow me, though I would consider stopping by for a specific item in the future. We must be on the JCPenney e-mail list as my wife got an e-mail from them marketing Black Friday deals where thousands of items are on sale from $5 to $50. We went for a St. Johns Bark Dog Sweater on sale from $22 to only $5.99. We ended up getting two of them as they were in stock up through large sizes. There are even women's sweaters that match the dog sweaters. While we didn't get any of the human sweaters, we thought it was adorable that there were matching sweaters. We looked through some of the other sales and then checked out quickly where we had a short wait and then a quick transaction. We were pleased with the overall experience. This particular location is open on Monday through Wednesday from 10 AM to 9 PM, Friday from 5 AM to 10 PM, Saturday from 9 AM to 10 PM, and Sunday from 11 AM to 8 PM. They are closed on Thursdays. Their departments include apparel & accessories, for the home, jewelry, mattresses, salon, beauty, and portrait. If you sign up for a JCPenney card, you can get a $10 CashPass Reward (or if you reactivate an expired card, you can get a $35 CashPass Reward. Thank you David for all your help hetting my armful of personal and gift clothes downstairs to the register. Be a Pro. Wear your name tag. I am SO very glad I can still walk into a JC Penney store and find top quality items. In particular Stafford Premium Crew Tee shirts. Woolite runs a really insulting ad where a guy in a tee shirt shows up for a date with a well dressed, attractive woman turned off by his stretched out tee neck. If this was real life, pay attention to how you dress guys. Sharp looks and shined/clean shoes make a difference. On collars - it's the tee makers, not you people. They care not about collars - except maybe Penney's Premium Crew Tees. My family knows I love a pocket tee, so they spend $24-$40 for Pendleton pocket tees. A little branded pocket tag does not add $18-$36 worth of quality to a shirt with a neck stretching to overcooked lasagna after 10 washings. Stafford Crews are $9 each - should last the rest of my life. My vee necks are at least 15 years old. These Stafford tees will mskr a princess think you're a frog - and handsome too. I got white ones. I'm dyeing them a nice shade of brown using walnut hull dye. I also love Gold Toe socks. My nephews are getting tees abd socks I'm here in person shopping my bricks and mortar off. You should give it a try - try a fitting before you buy - old school cool. read more

I was shopping here earlier today in the Men's department to buy things for my Dad, and they had a really great selection of what I was looking for. Barbara was the saleslady who took care of me, and she was so nice and such a sweetheart. She was very helpful and walked the sales floor to find what I needed, and she wrapped my purchases nicely and I enjoyed talking with her. I LOVE the ladies at JC Penny optical! Yvonne is the manager and I have nothing but the best customer service. These days that is a bit more scarce than it is to be. JCPenny is obviously on the brink of disappearing from the retail scene pretty soon. By having only 1 employee for an entire floor isn't helping. Neither is having only one register open in the entire store. This caps the reason they're headed for disaster. Only ONE person is working on the entire 2nd floor! Good luck getting any assistance. Most departments look like they have been abandoned 20 years ago. The 2nd floor is dark and dangerous! Young men running wild are threats to safety of other guests and statistically most likely to shoplift. This store needs to close - there is little of value or service here. Pretty dark and dinghy inside the store and lighting is very dim in some areas. They need to make this a more happier and brighter place to shop given the fact most pennies have closed in the area. The associates do not tell you about additional discounts and noticed we never got the additional 30% off. Nobody answers phone calls at the store and customer service is practically no help. This particular location at Paradise Valley Mall doesn't have the biggest selection but it does make things easier to find. This location also has a Sephora, which is a bonus. Penney's has several brands that I like including Worthington for career clothes, Luz Claiborne for casual wear, and Xersion for workout clothes. I was so happy to see that JC Penny Optical returned to the PV location. I was pleased to see Nationwide Vision leave. Over the years (many years) I have always been very pleased with the service and wide variety selection of eye glass frames. The opticians are excellent and very helpful. I'm torn on how to review this particular JCPenney location. We browsed around a bit and I stopped into the bathroom and unfortunately left my phone in there - which I noticed not even five minutes after I left it. I asked every worker I could find on the second floor if a phone had been turned in and received mostly the same reaction from each - "Nothing was turned into me" and they would walk off. Not super helpful and no attempt to call other register bases or the office or LP to see if it was turned in anywhere else. So, eventually I was able to find my fiancee and we walked to a register downstairs which was had an employee that was nice enough to point us to the management office and they had my phone turned in by one of their employees. This probably would have been a much quicker find if the personnel upstairs had made a simple phone call down to the office - but all in all my phone was there and turned in so I can't be too frustrated by the situation. Once the fiasco was over, we were able to return to shopping, and we found some really great clearance deals in the baby / children section for both our nieces and stocked up on clothes for the holidays on the cheap! Got about 15 pieces of clearance summer clothing for $27 - can't beat that pricing! Overall: B Not the best start, but the deals we found really helped to even out the experience. If you need employee help you might want to go elsewhere, but if you know where you are going and like a good deal - this is the spot! read more

Oh, JCP, you so tricksy. I used to be an avid JCPenney shopper - they had great deals and weekend doorbusters. Then they introduced this 'square' pricing. I baulked at this and stopped going. Then on a whim I decided to stop by again and found they have clearance racks galore. I found shorts and tops for $2.99 a pair! Both men and women! It was shocking and I was in a shopping coma. Bed sheets? No prob - $19 for queen sheets. Earrings - yeah, $2. Since I hadn't been in the store for a while, I noticed they are doing a lot of upgrades. Cash registers at every corner and fancy touch screens. Even the employees carry around iPods (or some version) and use that to ring purchases up. It was so tech savvy. They were even working on adding a Sephora beauty area. I really wish this JCP was much closer to where I currently live. I'd be there all the time! read more

So I made an online order and went to pick up my package, the store "supposedly" ask the costumers to make 2 lines , 1 to pick up, and another one to make returns. No JCPenney employee was on my counter, so I was waiting patiently for the only one helping with returns to take care of me next, then another costumer arrive and line on the returns "line", a new JCPenney employee comes to my counter and called her to be next... Excuse me? Good thing I didn't had to make a scene, the 3rd costumer who just arrived recognized I was there first. And i just mentioned to the employee i thought that was the Pick up line....not Returns. Ughh... Why they have signs if they don't care to follow by themselves! On my way out one "sweet and friendly" employee approached to us, uhhhm just to try to enroll us on their credit card program. As soon as I said , No thanks, the friendliness disappeared, I tried to explain my reasons but she just didn't care and left me talking by myself. They have good stuff online when they have good promotions and you can get good promotions codes. One employee was helping somebody, I was waiting to be helped...the only one waiting to be helped. Two employees ignored me for over 8 minutes until the lady helping someone saw me. Do not come to nationwide vision inside jc penny. The worst experience I've had three times in a row. One person running the store each time and the wait is insanely unacceptable. Ordered three pairs, never got a call that my glasses were ready. When I came to pick up they had ordered one pair with the wrong prescription. Another 10 days waiting for a pair of glasses and no call from anyone. I finally called and was told they were there. I came to pick up and here I sit waiting while there is only one person who doesn't know to multitask. I just want to pick up my glasses, and then you can sit back down to chat with your guests for a few more hours if you like. So annoying. read more

Great prices when there's a $10 off coupon. Lots of fun screen printed shirts for teens/tweens. (hint: Star Wars) Do the math before buying one at regular price and getting the next for a penny. Just sayin' use the arithmetic from elementary school. They do have a better selection online. Love that when a size was not in stock at tje store, they ordered it for me online for store pick up and applied the store coupon and I didn't even have to ask. Are all the staff that nice? I ordered a washing machine on jcpenney.com and had it delivered yesterday. They called a few days before delivery to tell me that they would be here to install between 4 and 7 in the afternoon. A little after 7, they called and said the delivery person was running two hours late. Then 2-1/2 hours later, the delivery driver calls and says he has two more deliveries then me. Around 10:30 PM, the delivery finally arrives. They install, start a cycle and are on their way. This evening I decide to wash my first batch of clothes. Went in on Black Friday to get my brother some new suits for his Concert gigs and a sales associate named JARED went above and beyond in his commitment to helping us. He was very patient and kind and went out of his way to find the right size and fit. If they didn't have it on the floor he would check online or at other stores. He even stayed with us a half hour after his shift ended to make sure my brother had everything he needed. He rung us up as well and we never once were made to feel rushed or like we were a bother. We used to come to the optical place when it was still part of JCPenney, now that they bought NationWide Vision service and products are horrible. I got an email for a back to school offer for $39.99 for one pair of glasses or 2 for $69.99. First the 2 for 69.99 has to be for the same person, ok, fine, btw I have twins. The choices were not that great so I was not going to do the transitions, so I wanted to just get a pair of regular glasses for them as back up. My girl picked a $129 frame, when I asked her to give me the estimate, she tells me $144. I was, WHAT? Then she said the overage was because the frame was over $59. I showed her the email that showed "frames up to $100, to what she replied, I cannot find that offer. I wasted over 45 minutes, I ended up going to Costco and buying them two pairs of transition glasses for what one pair would have cost me here. I will NEVER come back. read more

Used a company to ship my order called LASERSHIP. Company never came to the house (cameras showed nobody, car or delivery person) and no product was delivered. JCPenney said it's not their problem and I have to file a police report. Looked up the shipping company and it seems to be a theme for them to not deliver packages and just keep the money and products, based on other reviews. I dislike the PV Mall and try to avoid it as much as possible but I was on a hunt for a specific pair of Dockers trousers for my husband that I couldn't find at Macy's so I ended up here. I interrupted a couple of chatting teenaged sales clerks to find out that Menswear was upstairs. When I located the escalator it was fenced off and out of order so I had to find either the stairs or the elevator. I found out later that the escalator had already been out of order for a couple of weeks! The sales guy that attempted to help me was very sweet but he must come to work on a short bus. I told him the style I needed - a 36 waist and 34 inseam. He must have brought me about 6 different pairs , none of which were 36-34. I literally had to ask him if he knew that 38 was not the same as 36! I finally found the proper pair myself, and they were on sale, so Penney's earned a purchase and a 2nd star. The new and improved JCP.....first time I visited this locale since it was "restructured" I like the open space.....no more clutter anymore with all the 20, 30,40,50, etc....% off sales of racks and racks of clothing. Now however I do miss the chaos somewhat....there were more deals in the past than there seem to be now. Today was 1st Friday which is supposed to be the best deals of the month....however there was not a great selection of items. Ok, so I've never really been to a JCPenney before and this had had been the first JCP I'd been to, and I have to say since my first visit I've been an avid shopper here. The first time I came here was in late 2012 and this location has been changing and evolving since then. Here are the things I like: their prices on clearance items are just crazy! If you look in the right places and browse long enought you are sure to find some awesome deals! I've bought a lot of jewelry here at a great low price, I even scored on a big statement necklace for only $3! It was originally priced $25; I know, awesome right? I also scored a sick Pink Floyd tee for $4! For me nothing is better than under priced retail items ;) So, this place is perfect for me. The employees here are also abundant, every which way there's someone folding, organizing, picking up clothes, and ready to help you if you need it. Now the negatives, which I'm working really hard to find... The only thing I have to say is that sometimes there are long lines. But that just shows you how awesome this store is, that everyone comes and therefore there are long lines. That's really nothing the store can control, I'm just being nitpicky now. I needed to get a professional headshot for my company website, so I decided to make the appointment. My photographer, Felicia, was absolutely wonderful. She made sure I was at ease during the entire shoot, and took her time to get great professional shots. She even helped me after the shoot choose the three best images for the CD and the one to print. Great customer service. I am definitely pleased with the experience. read more

This was my first time ordering progressive lens an in doing so they took their time in explaining and answering any and all my questions. Rip off artists! I ordered an item online for a Christmas gift and to save $, I opted to pick it up at the store instead of paying shipping to my home. The original email said I would receive it in 7-10 days; that was ok because that was still plenty of time before Christmas. After 16 days I finally received an email that my order was in. But later in the day I received a phone call from the catalog department, asking if I received a receipt when I picked up my order. But I hadn't picked up my order yet?!? I immediately drove to the store to get my order and what a mess! They couldn't find my order and said finally "oh you must have cancelled it", which I had not. They finally admitted that "oh sorry we must have given your order to some other customer without checking their identification". That wouldn't be a problem for me except now the item was out of stock in the entire JCPenneys system and they had absolutely no idea when I would receive it. They did offer a full refund, ok, but since i had to wait over a FULL MONTH to receive my money back due to their ineptness in mishandling my order, I am saying without regret that they are ripoff artists. Btw I also canceled my JCP account with much difficulty, considering how much the customer service rep practically begged me to reconsider. read more
