Let me first start by saying I've been a mechanic and have worked on cars for quite some time. I was faced with a very unfortunate situation where my son needed a new engine for his car. I was tempted to do the work myself but a friend suggested reaching out to Gio at JDM for a quote. At first, I didn't know if I wanted to invest more cash into this car, but given the alternatives, I dove into the deal which was to have them supply the used motor with 60k on the ticker along with the install. Everything went incredible smooth. Gio was efficient, professional, and met his commitment to me. The car is now running fine and I'm glad that I went this route instead of dumping more cash into an old worn engine. Just bought a k24a RBB for my TSX, only reason it is not a 5 star is that the initial motor I got was definitely bad for some reason. It felt low on power and vtec was not kicking, I assumed it was the Vtec solenoid but after pulling it out, the mesh part on the gasket had metal shavings on it. I was told to replace and grab the parts from old motor, after doing so it did not fix the problem, I didn't want to make the motor worse and cause a knock so I just pulled the motor and brought it back to them. When calling, I made sure in no way, i voided my warranty so they gave me a completely free good replacement when I brought it back. Great service and communication when asking about my problems. 30 Day warranty was respected well, happy with my purchase but had to do an extra swap due to first motor being bad. read more

Bummer we have to write this review but felt the need to forewarn others. We purchased an engine from JDM and Gio and the experience was really smooth as Gio seemed very knowledgeable and was cool to talk to. Unfortunately because of this we also took their recommendation for mechanics to get it installed. Gio stated that he was sending us to his friends shop, the same guy that works on his cars. So after picking up the engine we drove straight to the shop and dropped it off and had our car towed for the swap. About a week and a half later we're told the cars ready to go. We get there and it struggles to turn over but we get her running. On the drive home CEL fire and we have two codes. We call and speak to them and we're told to replace a few sensors which we do. We still get a rough idle and codes fire again. During this time we also change the oil as advised me noticed it was watery with a metallic gloss to it. We FaceTime the shop and are told don't worry about the oil and clean out the banjo bolts. We do and still no improvement. A few days later the car dies on us and we get it towed to our house. At that time we had our friend that's a mechanic stop by for more help. He advised taking it to the shop as it's still under the 30 day engine warranty. We call the shop and explain what's going on and have the car towed to them. They sit on it a few days then we're told to order new TGVs which we do and have sent to them. During this timeframe we've now passed the 30 day engine warranty it still have the 90 day work warranty. About two weeks later we get a video from them talking and showing us that something was sucked into the new turbo they installed. About two weeks after that we get a call saying they can't do anything further and please come get our car. During this time we reached out to the B.A.R. and they found that the shop we got referred to by Gio isn't a certified mechanic and shouldn't be operating a business. Even worse the person was unable to provide any form of US identification much less anything to run a shop. The B.A.R. was able to help us mediate a resolution with the shady unlicensed shop that JDM and Gio referred us to and that gentleman did hold up his end of the deal. I wish the same could be said for JDM Engine Bay. At first we were questioned about every move we made. Once we began providing very detailed notes, videos, and texts they offered to help (Please keep in mind that Gio is in the video at the shop that they sent us and mentioned in many texts). That help was to purchase another engine from them but this time instead of the $825 it would only be $500ish plus tax. Unfortunately at this point our only option is small claims court which is the route we're certainly going. read more

Me and a couple buddies went into to the shop looking for a k24 for a engine swap, and the owner Gio (not sure if I spelt it right) was super helpful. Easy to talk to, knowledgeable, and just a humble guy in general answered all of our questions and the transaction was very very easy. The shop isn't only engine and is filled with goodies such as rims, front end clips, exhaust and basically anything you can think of. My son's Subaru Legacy blew its head gasket, bent its valves, fried its radiator, and basically gave up on life. He apparently was driving around with the temperature light on and didn't think that he should probably ask his dad what that means. After driving to pick him up at almost 1 AM and 45 miles from home we got the car towed to Livermore Subaru to see about getting it back on the road. They quoted me $2500 just to pull the engine out to see how dead it actually was and told me to expect a more than likely $8000 bill to replace the engine. Now I don't have anything bad to say about the dealership as a premium for work like that is to be expected, but dang! I had decided basically to get rid of the car at this point as $8000 could get a decent used car for an 18 year old until I happened on JDM. For the WAY better price of $2848 I got a used Japanese market engine (actually better than the American market engine) a radiator, and a very happy son who didn't really want to part ways with his first car yet. The guys at JDM Engine Bay were extremely polite and professional and took awesome care of us. The bonus is also being able to support a small business. Basically a win, win across the board.
