I did get here basically when it opened so I didn't need reservations, but because this place is small and cozy I would definitely try to make reservations ahead of time. Food is small plate style and shareable. Cocktails were yummy we had 2-Seoul mules, the Rigatoni, cucumber salad, and the half order of their Chimmelier Sijang Tongdak OG chicken. All was tasty with good flavors, and textures, everything you expected had a crunch. No soggy chicken, and nice crisp pickled veggies. My friends and I went to Jilli's on a Saturday night ; we made a reservation. Although we were seated a bit later than expected, they offered us free makgeolli for the wait, so that was such as nice gesture! We ordered the kimchi pasta, shrimp toast, mushroom riosotto, uni tteokboki, honey butter chips & hotteok cheescake. I personally really loved the honey butter chips and risotto! The chips were super light and good for snacking. The risotto was very flavorful and comforting. I loved loved the ambiance in the resturant; it was so cozy and cute. The anime on the walls, the warm lighting, the decor was top tier!! The best part of the entire dinner was the phenomenol service. We had a very enjoyable first visit to Jilli on a Saturday evening before catching a friend's show in Hollywood. We made a reservation but it seems they were also able to take some walk ins too (plenty of bar seating). Space inside was small but not cramped. We had looked at photos online and had a general idea of what we wanted to try. Sadly, they were out of ttekboki and Crudo, so we'll definitely have to come back another time for that. We really enjoyed the dishes we ordered, however, I found the pork jowl to be too fatty. I hadn't had much experience with makgeolli so starting with the flight (plenty to share between two people IMO) with some guidance from our waiter was very helpful. They were all excellent and unique in their own way! Everyone working there was so friendly and attentive! I believe our waiter was Mitchell and we were well cared for throughout our dinner. It's pretty small inside so would def recommend making a reservation. But on a Wednesday night we would've been fine without one. There's street parking and a valet parking lot behind it but it's expensive (16.50). It is super cute inside though! Service was fast and friendly. The rigatoni was SO good and I would come back to get it again. The tteokbokki and tuna dip were good too! I found out I don't like roe but that's my own problem lol, I just didn't eat them and the dishes were great. I was such a big fan of Chimmelier, that I had to try their sister company Jilli! I definitely recommend making a reservation if you're planning on dining there because they have extremely limited seating. Now let's get into it! I came with a group of five and we had all intentions of ordering one of each item on the menu, but they were out of a few dishes from a busy holiday season. Regardless, we got everything, except for those three items and doubled up on the shrimp toast (which you can also get at Chimmelier). Here's what we got: * Honey Butter Chips * Perilla Oil Noodles * Silken Tofu * Shrimp Toast * Meat Jeon * Wagyu Yukhwe * Salmon Fried Rice * Rigatoni Alla Kimchi Vodka * Chimmelier KFC * Cucumber Salad * Soy Vin Pickles To be completely honest, I enjoyed every single item that we ordered. But I'll give you my top three - 1) Shrimp Toast. It has the perfect golden crisp and amazing texture. You also can't beat the chili vinaigrette dipping sauce that comes with it! 2) Rigatoni Alla Kimchi Vodka. Super creamy kimchi flavor with a touch of bacon in each bite. A Korean-fusion masterpiece! 3) Silken Tofu. I honestly didn't think that this would make it to my top 3, but I'm a sucker for soy and vinegar, and this sauce was just that! It was very reminiscent of Japanese agadashi tofu, which is also a hit for me. Surprisingly, the Chimmelier KFC was probably my least favorite and it's because it was boneless popcorn chicken. Wagyu Yukhoe (Spicy Beef Tartare) Incredible quality beef, balanced heat, and layers of flavor from the sauces. Silky, spicy, and deeply satisfying. Tuna Dip with Trout Roe Think elevated tuna salad -- rich, creamy, and topped with that signature roe pop. A comforting yet refined dish. Uni Tteokbokki Creamy uni sauce meets chewy rice cakes and briny trout roe. A luxurious, ocean-kissed twist on a Korean street food classic. Jiajang Poutine Fries taken to another level. Possibly one of the best Korean fried chicken bites we've had in a long time. Pork Jowl Jeyuk Tender pork with a vibrant salsa verde -- think Korean BBQ meets chimichurri. Savory, herbaceous, and totally addictive. Rigatoni alla Kimchi Vodka This one was a flavor bomb. The funk of kimchi, smokiness of bacon, and creaminess of the vodka sauce all blended into an unexpectedly delicious pasta dish. Basque Cheesecake To end on a sweet note: rich, creamy, with a beautiful char. Every flavor component worked in harmony. A flawless finish. I don't know where to begin! I came with a friend on Tuesday to catch up and the restaurant was surprisingly busy and lively! The ambiance was great! Music choice was excellent and wasn't super loud to the point where you can't have a conversation. My friend is a vegetarian, so we stuck with most of the vegetarian friendly options. We had the honey butter chips, cucumber salad, rigatoni, and perilla noodles. The rigatoni with no bacon (a bit spicy) and perilla noodles are to die for! Highly recommend! I ordered the normal version of the rigatoni with bacon to-go because it was sooo good! In addition to the food, the service was excellent! I'm sure the bartenders weren't expecting a packed Tuesday, but they managed so well and took great care of my friend and me. The vibe is cool, but I have a lot of issues with the food. I think we've all gotten a little carried away with the whole "tapas" thing. I came here because the picture of the kimchi vodka rigatoni looked really good, but was disappointed to see how small the portion size is. Now, I think the tapas thing could have been cool - people could try a bunch of small dishes as they chat and drink. Yes, very cute. What's not cute is charging people full entree prices for a tiny portion and slapping the "tapas" label on it to justify it. I mean, no matter how you look at it, it's a tiny plate of pasta that you're charging $21 for. $21 is a price for a regular portion of pasta, not the kid's meal portion they served to us. It was good pasta though. Maybe a little runny but that's the least of its problems. And the Chimmelier KFC was some of the worst fried chicken I've ever had. It was so dry. It was essentially popcorn chicken - stuff I would expect from a Tastea (except Tastea's would taste better). And the biggest joke is that they're charging $25 for it. The Meat Jeon... it was a very good omelette. Like if you told me it was just eggs, I would've been like "oh this is a really good omelette." But this was the eggiest Jeon I've ever had. There was almost no flour content in it. I don't think you could call it a batter. It tasted like if you had nothing in your fridge and decided to crack some eggs in a bowl, whisk 'em up, and fry them with some bulgogi you had leftover in your fridge. With some sliced green onion on top. There, I just described to you exactly how it tasted. My drink was the Kace Study. I actually wanted to try the Makgeoli, but our server recommended this cocktail to me. It was ok. Soju with a hint of tea flavor without the biting feeling of alcohol with a stick of gummy bears in it. It was good. Very clean, but kinda simple. Lowkey I've made a better version using the peach tea in the pink pouches at Hmart and mixing it with peach soju. Service was decent. We were sat immediately. It was kinda hard to hear our server because it was so loud. I asked for recommendations but I couldn't hear a thing she said to me haha. Jilli is a Korean tapas bar. We went before a show at the Wiltern (only 2 blocks away). The restaurant is small, but has a fun vibe. The food is very good and perfect for sharing. The Hamachi crudo and the Pork Jowl Jeyuk were the stand outs for me. I really loved the sauces for the pork lettuce wraps. We also enjoyed the Shrimp Toast, Rigatoni Alla Kimchi Vodka. The staff was friendly and checked in with us to make sure had everything we needed. We had an early res and were able to take our time getting to the Wiltern. But, the restaurant really starts filling up by 7pm. Go early or make sure you have a reservation! It's almost a shame my friends and I started our Saturday night at Jilli because our experience here set an insurmountable bar. Our party of 3 arrived to put our name down around 7:20 and were told it would be an hour's wait due to their extremely limited table (3-4) and bar (~9) seating options. After 45 minutes of milling around the area we popped back in and were seated at the bar. Colored neon lighting, lively conversation, and the intimate space create one of the most memorable eating surroundings I've had to date. Makgeolli Flight: 4 glasses of Korean rice wine. Favorites included the light and melony Sang and the muted, classic flavor of the Hana that was greatly enhanced when consumed with food. I personally wasn't a fan of the strong banana flavor of what I believe was the Angma and its very nasal burn. Wagyu Yukhoe: Standout dish of the night and my whole LA trip. House-fried chips inserted into a decadent cheese-dusted beef tartare, all sitting atop a layer of salty and tangy nori relish. Kevin, who I later found out was the owner, was delighted to discuss the process behind the seaweed sauce with me as I shared some of the other interesting ways I had consumed seaweed at other restaurants. Rigatoni alla Kimchi Vodka: hearty, spicy, and a wonderful accompaniment to the drinks. However, the concept isn't much more than a simple twist to a popular recipe and I would be more open to trying a different dish on my next visit. Kace Study Peach Ring Cocktail: This wasn't supposed to be available until the day after our visit, but Kevin was nice enough to make one for us to try that night in addition to another shot made with blue curacao! I stopped by here on Saturday evening and did not realize it was reservation only! I came solo and asked if there was seating for 1. They were unfortunately booked for the night. I asked the hostess, Hwang(sorry if I spelled your name wrong) who is so nice by the way, if I could take my food to go and she said that was fine! She even offered me her work station to sit while I waited and offered me some water and a drink. She made me feel very welcomed and made my experience there very pleasant. She gave me a recommendation for which makegolli to try and that was so good!!!!!! I can't remember the name of it but it started with an N and was like 12% alc lol. I ended up getting the summer burrata and ate that there because she recommended it would be better to eat there so it's still fresh!!! and took the tteokboki and rigatoni pasta to go. The summer burrata was so refreshing!! The prosciutto on top was very good. This was my first time trying the tteokboki so I wasn't sure what to expect with that. The rice cakes were perfectly chewy and the sauce was sweet. The kimchi rigatoni was my favorite and had a nice spicy kick to it. The atmosphere inside was more on the intimate side. Darker space and close seating arrangement. It is a smaller space but they have the tables set up in order to accommodate a lot of people. There is bar seating that sat what looked like 6 people. Ambiance is definitely 10/10, smaller than I imagined with tight spaces between tables tucked behind bar seating, but I think that's what makes this restaurant so lively. Service is amazing as well! Partner and I came here after dinner and for late birthday celebration! Marvin was great at explaining the menu items, and the recommended fried chicken was bomb. It did take a while for fry up, so we got some crackers and tuna dip to munch on while we waited. Marvin came around at good times to check in on us (didn't need to nod awkwardly with full mouths at "Are you finding everything okay?"), and he definitely matched our energy for this low-key second dinner and made the experience very comfortable. We also got the makgeolli flight, and it deserves its own paragraph. The first two on the left are from Sang and Angma, and they had the more familiar profiles of makgeolli that I've tried - slightly sweet, fruity, and fragrant rice - while still distinct from each other. Angma's (I think "Two Flowers") had a bit more complexity. The Red Monkey was new to us; the red yeasted rice gives the drink a crimson / carmine color, and the drink has some rich floral notes and a silky mouthfeel. Lastly, the Omija (from Hana Makgeolli in NYC) was also pretty special. It's very dry, unlike the limited makgeolli I've had in the past, and the bubbles are very fine and tingly. It pairs fantastically with the fried chicken, and I could see it being great with any of the fried dishes on the menu. Overall, I think the experience is unique and enjoyable enough to justify the slightly higher price point. Important note that reservations seem to be practically required to get a table, at least on the weekends. We had a reservation this time and were seated pretty quickly; we had walked by here a few weeks ago, but it was about a 90 minute wait for the next open table. read more

The Golbi short rib fries were amazing and the Kimchi Rigatoni was delicious. The Seoul Mule was very sweet and just tasted lile $17 juice. No, but they were sure tasty. The shrimp toast in particular was my fave. It's a crispy piece of toast topped with minced shrimp and deep fried until perfection. I also loved the rigatoni alla kimchi vodka because it tasted familiar, but that kimchi slides in there and gives the pasta a big ole kick. Contrary to other reviews, I felt like everything was reasonably priced, if not on the cheaper end. You get A LOT of shrimp toast for $13. And the Chimmelier KFC is generously proportioned for only $20 bucks. It takes tremendous effort to dine at Jilli. Parking in this part of Ktown is pretty much nonexistent especially on a Friday night. And again, it takes tremendous effort to converse once inside. It is. So. Damn. Loud. Jilli is so up my alley it feels a little like it was made specifically for me, a second-gen Korean Angeleno who loves alcohol and lives 15 minutes away on foot. I do think it's also great for you, though, a person on Yelp looking for a fun place to eat and drink in Koreatown. I went with three girlfriends last week, and I found it pretty ideal for a leisurely Wednesday night catch-up dinner. The restaurant was small--Jilli occupies the slim 6th Street slot that used to house an old favorite of mine, Sushi One--with cute decor and a comfortable atmosphere in keeping with the modern suljip concept. You might think of Jilli as a Korean American wine bar or izakaya, where the food is meant to be eaten with booze. It definitely reminded me of Korea, where every bar is also a late-night restaurant. Service was friendly and attentive. Our waiter took care of us when we needed her and left us alone when we didn't. We ended up hanging out for over three hours, until close to 11, when we were gently told the place was closing. This seemed reasonable, though I do see that the listed hours are 6PM-11PM on Wednesday nights, so we weren't unduly lingering. Jilli offers beer, wine, makgeolli, and soju, as well as a handful of low-ABV cocktails. We drank Hana Makgeolli Yakju, a fruity rice wine made in Brooklyn, and good old Chamisul Fresh, which we got with lime wedges. The food was fantastic and easy to share. The honey butter chips were addictive, sweet and salty homemade potato chips with honey butter. I loved the tuna dip and trout roe, which came with Ace and Charm crackers, still in their distinctive packaging. The shrimp toast might have been my favorite dish of the night, and also the least Korean (honey butter chips = super Korean). These were crispy, deep-fried squares of toast made with chopped shrimp and white bread, served with lime and a chili vinaigrette for dunking. I also enjoyed the cucumber salad, an elevated banchan with crunchy cucumber drizzled with a spicy, vinegary gochujang dressing. Of the larger items, I would highly recommend the uni tteokbokki, a unique, delicious take on the ultimate Korean street food. The fried rice cakes were chewy but soft, and I loved the creamy, briny uni butter sauce, heightened with parmesan and bright bursts of smoked trout roe. The salmon fried rice was another winner, fluffy and flavorful, with egg, soy-cured salmon, scallion, and seaweed. The only miss was the Chimmelier KFC. I guess this used to be made with wings, but it was "K-popcorn chicken" last week. Not dreadful, but bland and dry as Korean fried chicken goes. I did like the accompanying yangyum sauce and soy vin pickles. There were no desserts on offer, not that we needed them (though I just want to point out that honey butter chips and ice cream are a classic combination). We finished our Chamisul instead. Parking: It's Koreatown so you know it's TOUGH. I went on a Sunday evening and circled for like 15 minutes before parallel parking at a meter spot. Experience: I made a reservation 5 days in advance for 7pm on a Sunday and we were immediately seated. I was able to get a same-day reservation at this spot, which was exciting since my friends and I had been wanting to try it for months. Our reservation was at 6:30 PM, and we got there a little early at 6:25 PM. They seated us right away, and since we already knew what we wanted, we ordered pretty quickly. We got two drinks and six dishes: shrimp toast, uni tteokbokki, salmon fried rice, rigatoni alla kimchi vodka, Chimmelier KFC, and cucumber salad. Here's how everything went down: 6:38 PM - Shrimp Toast (4.1/5) Tasty, but a little too salty for me. I enjoyed the crispiness of the toast. 6:44 PM - Uni Tteokbokki (3.9/5) I liked that the uni flavor wasn't too strong, and the rice cakes were nice and soft. 6:46 PM - Cucumber Salad (3/5) Why did this take so long to come out? 7:10 PM - Rigatoni alla Kimchi Vodka (3.75/5) The portion was tiny for $21, and it took forever. Taste-wise, it was just okay. 7:17 PM - Chimmelier KFC (2.8/5) Basically just popcorn chicken/nuggets. Again, why did it take so long? 7:25 PM - Salmon Fried Rice (3.4/5) Pretty average, nothing special. The weirdest part? The restaurant wasn't even busy--only about 11 people were there when we ordered. But somehow, our food took forever, and we even saw the table next to us get their rigatoni within 10 minutes of ordering. Payment by Venmo is available. The parking attendant is gone after 9:40pm, so if you are not careful you could be locked out of the lot. It was small inside with only a few tables and bar seating. I thought the ambiance would be pocha-like but it's more similar to a wine bar. My friends raved about how good this place was, so this was on my list of top places to try. However, in all honesty I just found my experience here to be just okay. The food was decent, but I would say it wasn't worth the higher prices. I liked the kimchi rigatoni the best, despite the small size because the white sauce in the dish which contrasted the tangy kimchi sauce was good. The rigatoni was also cooked well. However, I didn't even taste any bacon as mentioned in the title of the dish. I also tried makgeolli for the first time here and it was okay, definitely an acquired taste. The shrimp toast was okay, but I feel like it was the same quality as the air fryer shrimp toast you can get at H Mart. I also wasn't a fan of how dark it was inside, not even the good dark mood lighting. The service was good though. read more

Jilli is a new hip spot in Ktown, and you definitely need a reservation. The first time we came without a reservation, we were told the wait would be 1.5 hours and we never got a call back that night. So we learned our lesson and made a reservation. The space is pretty small, it almost feels crammed. If you want an intimate dinner for a date night, this is NOT the place for you. If you're looking for fun vibe Friday night, jilli is a good time. Vibe is 5/5. Food wise, it's kinda hit and miss. I'm torn. Such an aesthetic place with great vibes. Some of the food items on the menu were a hit or miss though. Got the shrimp toast which was amazing. So much shrimp and it cakes in giant chunks and a spicy may like sauce to compliment it. Was a bit oily but it was also perfectly crispy. The kimchi rigatoni was amazing also. Flavors paired really well and the kimchi didn't overpower the dish. The cheese on top was also light and creamy without being too sharp. Everything was mild but in the best way. Also my first time eating pasta with chopsticks. The fried chicken in the other hand was very disappointing. Dry, white meat with no flavor. Feel like they prioritized looks than taste. We also got a not so good sitting spot with the view of behind the counter/kitchen. There is also one seat that faces outside with the view of waiting customers. Every other spot seems good though. I love all the food here and I never go home hungry! I came on a Sunday night around 8pm - there were plenty of open seating and no wait. The host seated us at the bar and totally forgot about us. We had to wait a bit before flagging her down to place our order. After our food came, again, we had to spend some time flagging down the server to provide us utensils to eat our food lol... the server was definitely not very attentive and she left several tables half cleaned.
