I'd had Jimmy John's sandwiches from a party platter, and I was bored with the plain ham and cheese or turkey options, but recently we ordered Jimmy John's for a working lunch meeting and we each got to pick and customize our own sandwich, and this was SO much better. I somehow earned the title of "food ordering girl" around my office, which is fine by me because that means I get more control over the free food I'm getting. I ordered about 15 sandwiches online and every single one of them was perfect and labeled with our names correctly. The sandwiches were securely packed in a box and the chips weren't smashed in to pieces upon arrival. The delivery was also 15 minutes early, which was very nice. The customizable options online are very thorough and include "scooping out the bread" in your French roll, extra mayo/mustard, mayo/mustard on the side, lettuce wrap un-wich or sliced wheat bread among other customization options. I personally like the bootleggers club (roast beef and turkey). I highly recommend you put oregano, mayo and oil and vinegar on any sandwich here -- it's kinda their thing. read more

I was going to call in for my sandwich cause I was in a rush, then I decided it wouldn't really make a difference since they prep your sandwiches so fast!! JJ is great because it's quick, cheap, and tastes way better than any subway or quiznos that you might be thinking about. The only valid contender in my heart (or stomach) is Potbelly. The bread is amazing. They do put a ton of mayo in your sandwich (probably why it tastes so rich), so watch out for that. However, the value that you get from a JJ sandwich is unmatched. I love this place. The sandwiches are great. I usually don't stay to eat, most times I pick up. I love that they deliver if you're lucky enough to live in a delivery zone but alas I am not that lucky. The inside isn't the best environment for a eating out experience, unless you like the fast food feel of dining. But the subs are top notch. I don't know if they bake their own bread, but it's amazing. They definitely don't skimp on the meat either. I can barely get the sub around my mouth most times. Jimmy John's is a decidedly average fast-food sub shop in terms of food quality, but they make up for it with excellent service. I've ordered JJBLTs from here and they usually arrive within 20 minutes - it's amazing. For this particular location, I should add that their drivers are very familiar with the Rice University campus, so it's a good option when you don't want to meet your driver all the way on the edge of campus. Even when I've ordered in-person, they typically have my order prepared in the time that I place it and pay at the cashier. JJ's is wicked fast and incredibly professional, which are the main reasons why I order from them so frequently. The problem is, the food isn't really that phenomenal. Their sandwich meats are really salty, even more than should be expected of fast-food 'lunch meats.' Also, the bread often tastes hardened or stale, sometimes almost to the point of being comparable in texture and taste to cardboard. If you're not in a rush or if you have a car to get around in Houston, consider another location like Jason's Deli, Quizno's, or even Subway instead. But if either of those two previous conditions apply, then Jimmy John's is an acceptable food choice because of its fantastic service. read more

We like this place a WHOLE lot. I go with my boyfriend an average of once a week. You order 2 sandwiches, and they are ready before you filled your softdrink. The veggie sandwiches are to die for- think sprouts and avocado spread deliciousness. I'm always the right amount of full after one of these sandwiches. They also do NOT skimp on the cheese (like Subway, boo). There are a lot of options. Also, one thing I like about this place is the people who work there. They get things done quickly, compared to some place like Jamba Juice where they sometimes have a line out the door and still, no sense of urgency. They are also polite at Jimmy Johns. Jimmy Johns, why won't you let me love you? OK, here's my steeze on Jimmy Johns. Yes, I said steeze. My hubby loves it. The prices are good. Plus, after a certain number of sammiches on your punch card (I forget but less than 10, I think), you get a free one. Plus, they have good pickles. Plus, they have yummy chips. I love the environment -- it's fun, and they usually play good music. I love how fast they are, and that the dudes behind the sandwich counter are generally in good spirits. Here's my explanation for the mediocre star-age, given the amount of praise I have just showered on the place: 1. For a long time, all I ever had was the veggie sammich (#6, I think?). But I stopped ordering after getting sick to my stomach several times (that sick feeling a vegetarian gets in the stomach when one accidentally eats meat). I don't know if they are getting things mixed up back there, or if they need to change their gloves or what. This made me sad, though. 2. After not having luck with the veggie sandwich, and after expanding my eating habits to include fish, I ventured out to try the tuna. The first time it was good. The next couple times, not good. Here is where Jimmy John's is breaking its own corporate philosophical standards. Consistency is supposed to be high on the list, but at least with the veggie and tuna sammies, it really needs some work. 3. This is nit-picky, but while we are at it, how I do wish they would deliver on the other side of 610. We are literally like two minutes outside of their delivery zone. That is so annoying. Boo. I've been to Jimmy Johns in several cities and several states. They are almost always the same with a small chance of error (one time in St Louis, I ordered a #9 and the guy forgot the lettuce, tomatoes, onions and dressing). As a business model, they always have fresh bread, fresh meat, fresh produce, the sandwiches have an exact formula so they're the same every time and they don't offer many bells and whistles to keep things simple and fast. This Jimmy Johns is exactly as it should be. The people that work behind the counter are nice, laid back and very fast. They will start making your sandwich before you finish paying! I typically order the Gargantuan or the #9 (Italian Night Club). I really like their italian vinaigrette and fresh onions. The wife likes their #3 (Tuna), however she says that the consistency of the tuna is different each time. Maybe they haven't perfected the tuna-to-mayo ratio yet? They also offer a vegetarian option, but my wife says it's not very good. You know how subway's "fresh bread" is usually kind of soggy (undercooked) or hard (left out too long)? That is never the case at Jimmy Johns. I sometimes come in and order a sandwich at 9:30pm and the bread tastes like it just came out of the oven. They deliver, but even though our place is only 3.1 miles away, they don't deliver to us. So, you're pretty lucky if you're close enough for them to deliver to you. Unbelievably fast delivery times and decent sandwiches. Online ordering system allows for extensive customization of your order with mostly free additional vegetables. Out of business or laziness, I think I've ordered Jimmy John's at least eight times in the past month or so. I cannot stress how fast the delivery is. I've gotten sandwiches in 10 minutes before and never had to wait more than 20. To me, this convenience factor more than makes up for their other faults. Food: Two quick things: 1) The sandwiches themselves are fresh but are probably not going to blow your mind. 2) Adding some oregano to your sandwich is a game changer in the best possible way. My go-to order here is the Hunter's Club, which is essentially a roast beef sandwich with your choice of vegetables. I will also vouch for their Club Tuna and Billy Club. Given how typical most of these sandwiches are, it's up to you to customize the sandwich to your liking and experiment with different combinations. Most of the non-meat additions are free of charge, which is nice. I'm a big fan of their french bread despite being aware of its limited value to my health. I feel the same way about the copious amounts of mayo that they put in by default. Service: I've only had experience with delivery, but the drivers are extremely timely and always very polite. I know, I know, its a chain... but I just have to give JJ's some props for the unwich. I used to LOVE a good italian sub. You know salami, cheese, peppers, le sigh. These days though I don't eat gluten so the old sub sandwich is off limits. However, the JJ's unwich that uses lettuce instead of bread actually manages to do the trick for me. I recommend going when they aren't too busy so you can ask them to change gloves and use a cutting board without feeling like a pain, but they are usually quite accomodating. However the last few orders have been extremely slow- once it was an hour for two sandwiches and we live less than a mile away.
