Jim is excellent. He came over and diagnosed an issue with an old air conditioning unit, and gave his recommendation as well as how we might salvage the old unit (needing old R22 refrigerant) if we really wanted to. Then this year, we promptly returned to fix our main floor air conditioning unit, which had some sort of condenser line blockage. He very patiently took off the hard-to-remove air handler face, and made a couple of tweaks, and reattached everything just like before. Have I really not written a review for Jim's yet? That's an unfortunate oversight. We've used Jim for routine service of our furnace and air conditioner for many years. We first were referred to him several years ago when our furnace stopped working just as the temperatures were starting to drop. We had fairly young kids at that time, and so it was necessary for this to be addressed quickly. I was certain that we would need a furnace replacement costing a few thousand dollars, as the unit that we have is quite old already. Jim was recommended to us by someone in the neighborhood, and I gave him a call. He was able to come out the same day, and after inspecting our unit he informed us that we just needed a blower motor replacement (or something like that - I can't remember exactly what it was). In any case, what I thought would be a major expense turned to cost only a couple hundred bucks, labor included. Our furnace has been working well ever since then. Now when it's time for routine inspections, we always call on Jim. He has been to our place about a half dozen times now. He is friendly and responsive and has never failed to return a call or keep an appointment. Very highly recommended. read more

Woke up the Wednesday before Thanksgiving (Nov 22) to a disturbing noise emanating from our furnace. Called our usual repair service. They were slammed. Called Jim. He was at our house in an hour. Problem was the water pump. He cleaned it to get us through the weekend. Came back today (Nov 28) and installed the new pump. Terrific service, very reasonable prices. Sadly he doesn't do water heaters (our next big replacement). Five stars. read more

He diagnosed and corrected heat pump noise very inexpensively in one visit, and quickly handled diagnosis and replacement of an older unit that would have been even more expensive to rebuild. I have used Jim's Air Conditioning Service twice this year. He came out before the summer to service my air conditioner and I was impressed at how thorough he was. So, I just called him again to service my furnace before winter sets in. He came and changed the filter, checked out everything. He even changed the batteries in the thermostat even though they showed full charge. Since I had never changed them he said it was better to change them in case they leaked. Our furnace fan stopped working. Called Jim. Answered the phone right away, asked some questions, came out the next day (lucky for us - otherwise it would have been two weeks). Late in the day on the hottest day of the year, my A/C stopped working. I saw Jim's business on Bay Area Checkbook website. I gave him a call. He answered, asked me to text him my details, and said he could come out the next day even though I live outside of the area he usually serves. He called the next morning and told me when he would be there. He was on time and very courteous. He repaired the central A/C quickly and charged a very reasonable amount. He seems very honest. Impressive service. When the 20 year-old ("heat pump")unit that heats and cools my condo was not doing much of either, I asked around and two of my neighbors gave me this man's name with the comment, "He's great". Jim arrived as scheduled and checked out the unit. Oiling the motors and adding freon was all it needed. He made it sound simple, but then took it apart and cleaned it up pretty thoroughly. He also noticed and pointed out a gap that was a probable source of lost energy and recommended a no-cost method for addressing that problem. Neighbors have used other service people who have not solved the problems, collected their payment, then disappeared. Jim checked to see that things were working properly and said to give him a call if I needed him to come back. The unit worked well afterwards and I especially appreciated that the screeching sound it made when I shut it off wasn't happening any longer. I considered his charges affordable and I will definitely call him routinely for maintenance. He worked diligently and thoroughly. And Jim is such a nice guy--so friendly AND he backs his work. Jim is the best contractor/repair person I've been able to hire in the Bay Area. I had some issues with my central heating and A/C and Jim came over the same day. He didn't try to sell me any extra parts or services and fixed the problem (blown capacitor) immediately.
