Dan did an absolutely fantastic job on our project. We hired him to install a/c for our 2nd floor, since previous owners of our house had only installed it on the first floor. Dan specced out and installed a single new Mitsubishi heat pump that was capable of cooling both floors, installed new matching air handlers for both floors, ran new wiring for the 1st floor thermostat, and installed a new air return for the first floor since our existing one was undersized. This ended up being a 2w effort since Dan was short an expected helper, but he was here every day working hard and did a great job of keeping us informed of the progress. He ran into a few issues, but whenever he did he approached me with proposed solutions already in mind to get my approval. I'd give Dan 10 stars if I could... He responded within 15 minutes of my calls... Was courteous, very informative, and did something that proves that he's not just out to make money. I've had other contractors recommend a complete control board replacement for my furnace problem and Dan initially agreed, but spent some time reviewing other possibilities. He then picked up a new board but still felt that it might not be necessary and continued to check other interlocks, such as gas valve, temperature, sensors, and pressure sensors. he was finally able to isolate the problem to the pressure sensor which he replaced instead of the entire board. this saved over $400 additional cost... My 94 yr old dad's AC unit stopped blowing cold air, so we checked with our original guy from 6 years ago who installed it, who told us we'd have to replace the whole thing at a cost of $4k. (My dad was in total shock about that, so I told the guy we will get a 2nd opinion.) - Thankfully, after doing some research, I found South Bay Heating and Cooling here on Yelp, and the company's owner Dan came by the same day I called him to give us an estimate. He told us he could actually repair the unit (no need to replace it) by installing a new capacitor and provide additional fixes to a leaked coolant chamber, recharging the capacitor, etc., and was able to finish the job the next day at a fraction of the cost of a new unit and added 2 years of warranty to the parts and labor. Dan was just really knowledgable, helpful, humble, friendly, very thorough with explaining things, and it was amazing how timely he was with his service. Very quick turnaround on this job, to our relief, as I was worried my elderly dad wouldn't have a working AC this summer. Btw, my dad has dementia and was kinda looking over Dan's shoulder now 'n then while he worked, repeating the same questions a lot, (a common issue with dementia), but I really appreciated the patience Dan showed my dad...just friendly answers to dad's questions, with no judgement or frustration. I have to say... They are the best! Dan is a very professional, courteous, and honest person. He installed or unit in 2016. We had some problem with it this summer and we're unable to get a hold of Dan for a few days. I used South Bay Heating & Cooling twice. Dan is great to work with and on both occasions he did an outstanding job. First job was to fix duct attachment to several vents in the house as they were leaking air. They secured all duct ends to the vents boot and sealed the edges with foaming material which insured that the cool/heated air were not wasted in the crawl space. The second job was to install a duct loop solution to reduce the noise level when the furnace is running as the return was very close to the furnace. After he finished the duct work, the noise level went down from 60 dB to 45 which reduce the noise by more than half. Again the job was done on time and with high quality. read more

The most deserved 5 stars I could ever give. Typically when it comes to any contractor work I'm a little cautious that somebody isn't taking me on a run for my money (home improvement, car repairs, etc.). Always a fear that someone is shooting some outrageous quote for shoddy work. My experience with Dan and South Bay Heating and Cooling was the complete opposite of what I was used to. Dan was 100% transparent with a-z of this transaction. Its been extremely cold lately, and we find out our furnace isnt working. We give Dan a call and he comes over and gives a full inspection and diagnosis of the issue. He has extensive knowledge of the failure rates of specific units, the life expectancy of each part, and a rough estimate of how much each part costs to replace. After communicating all this information to me, he gives us his expert opinion based on his findings. Cracked pipe, possibly broken gas valve, and possibly broken motherboard(all of which was shown to me and explained in detail). Suggestion was to go with the full repair which would replace the whole furnace since our furnace was beyond the normal life expectancy anyways. Was bound to fail at any time. Dan is a busy guy and has quite a lot of work on his hands but he scheduled us as soon as possible the for the following week to save us from the freezing cold. He went over the pros and cons of each option and we went with the two stage gas valve because it fits our usage habits. After just two and a half days we have our new furnace and AC replaced and working 10x better than the old one. While going through the inspection Dan also noted some problem areas, rat droppings, holes gnawed open by rats, possible areas where air leaks out and he helped us address them all! Really went above and beyond just the heating and cooling issue. After the work was complete, he went over maintenance and how to operate the new thermostat. Bottomline: really impressed with the quality of the work. Respects the house. Respects our dogs despite their feistiness. An extremely pleasant person to work with. Our furnace stopped working and after calling about sixteen folks only to be greeted with either voice mail or a "we can come by in three weeks", I stumbled upon South Bay Heating and Cooking. Dan actually picked up the phone when I called (something that is increasingly rare) and said he could be there in forty minutes. He showed up exactly when he said he would (in fact a few minutes earlier). After inspecting the furnace and taking it apart, he identified the core problem (a broken part). Dan took the time to explain the exact issue. He needed to order the replacement part, which sous take s day, and said he could come once he got it to finish the job. The following day he arrived (again early!) and about half an hour later we had heat in our house. Dan was the consummate professional, identified the core issues, and never once tried to upsell me on anything I didn't need. What more can you ask for? Overall it was a superlative experience. Dan really came through when we were in a bind. My only hesitancy in writing a five star review is that if I have any future issues and call Dan, I want him to be available! read more
