We had the hardest time finding a Chinese place for dine-in. Finally we found Jimmy Wen's. It had been years since we had been here. We went with the family style dinner that included fried shrimp, won ton soup, chicken salad, potstickers, orange chicken, sizzling beef, and steamed rice. Everything was amazing. What I especially appreciated was that the orange chicken was not cloyingly sweet, and nothing was overly salty, which is something you encounter at many Chinese restaurants. We ordered through Door Dash, the Chinese chicken salad. Generous amount of chicken and veggies. We did not like the sesame dressing at all. It was made with mayonnaise. Not at all like the typical sweet? vinegary sesame dressing. It was not tasty at all. We won't order that again. read more

Jimy Wen's is our go-to Chinese restaurant. The food is so fresh and delicious. If you want something changed around, just ask, and the owners/chef will accommodate you. They never disappoint. My favorite is the orange beef, not a dish you can find everywhere. The small intimate dining room is very comfortable. There are booths and tables and room for a large group on one side. Beer and wine are served but we always order hot tea as it's freshly brewed. Service is impeccable and attentive. There is a large parking lot. You can also get takeout. read more

We have gone to Jimy Wen's since the original owners opened the restaurant. After the original owners had a bad car accident they ultimately had to sell it. They went through a few changes in ownership and dipped in quality, until NOW! The newest owners have brought back quality Asian food to Jimy Wen's! We have been a few times since the current owners have been cooking their menu and they have steadily improved. This last Friday 5 of us went at about 3:00. We ordered chicken salads, House Special Won Ton soup, a small egg flour drop soup and two orders of the House Special Chow Mein. All of the dishes were delicious! The soup was filled with dumplings, vegetables and protein, the chicken salad was crisp and full of chicken, dressing light and flavorful, the egg drop soup had deep flavors. The owner/chef came out to let us know he was making a fresh batch of homemade noodles for the chow mein, he gave us a choice of using the noodles made for lunch or waiting for the fresh, we made the right choice of waiting. We've never had homemade Asian noodles and they were WORTH the wait!! So fresh and tender, not at all greasy or rubbery, we can't ever go back to packaged noodles! Because of the wait, the owner sent out a plate of fried shrimp and a plate of pot stickers; all excellent! He also sent a to-go container of Chow Mein. We shared the to-go food with others and they were also wowed by the noodles. A simple, restrained menu and wonderfully mellow environment. It's a calming restaurant with nothing more than the sound of a fountain, no music, no obnoxious blaring TVs or light shows. Eating in a quiet restaurant these days can be profoundly enjoyable. They have become rare. The service was wonderful with a pleasant Asian woman who took care of me. And the food was more subtle, not overly salty and blow your taste buds out like a lot of other places. The ingredients were fresh and good quality... I ordered several items all of which I enjoyed. But I found the wor wonton soup to be exceptional. The broth was not overly salty while still being rich. The shrimp were quite large and tasty, and the chicken and pork work good tasty cuts and not scraps... oh but the wontons were large, soft and fluffy with a wonderful flavor and slight complexity lacking at other places.. Jimy Wen's used to be one of my 5 star places to go to regularly. However, this past week my daughter and I were sadly disappointed. The menu has changed- no veggies in anything-special chow mein had nothing but noodles - fried rice only rice and egg. The lemon in my iced tea was spoiled making the tea taste bad. The soup tasted like water with soy sauce and mushrooms in it. We heard others complaining about the Chinese chicken salad as well. It was not a good experience this time, I am sad to say. It was looking really great for a while. After the Wen family sold the restaurant, the new owners really worked hard and stepped up to the table adding some absolutely delicious items to the menu. I was informed that it has been sold again and unfortunately it's nothing like it used to be when the Wen family owned it. The flavor of the food was nowhere near what it used to be unless you call salt a flavor because that's the only thing you could taste. We were so hungry we chose to eat the vegetables that we could off of our meals. (We both ordered the tofu and vegetables) I ordered mine spicy and I thought that it was horrifically salty until I tried my husband's. He ordered it with no changes and the sauce was so incredibly salty that he scooped as much sauce as he could off of the plate to try and eat what he could. We were really hungry that day and going somewhere else was about an option because it was getting late. I wish them the best but being served almost half the amount of food ( less vegetables and only five or six pieces of tofu), being charged more than what it was last time we visited, it became clear that we would not be back. I understand that everything is getting more and more expensive and because of that it's getting harder for many of us to eat out. Restaurants aren't the only one that feel the pinch. We went back tonight as we have been going for 17 years! A couple of months ago it tasted good. It was similar to when Jimy and Karen owned it finally. But tonight was awful!!! They tried to say it was the same recipes and it definitely was NOT! It didn't have the same clear sauce, none of the same vegetables, the pieces of chicken were different and everything. Because of the recent article I read in News Break on this place re-opening and the sympathetic story behind it, I decided to try this restaurant. AND IT WAS TERRIBLE! The food is very cheap quality and average price for each of the two different dishes I ordered was $15. The Kung Pao Tofu had NO peanuts, as we know the dish should have and is advertised as having, so sloppy careless work there and the special request I made of Orange Tofu instead of Orange Chicken was so bad I am throwing it out. There were these tiny strips of some kind of tofu, the kind you would likely see at the bottom of miso soup, so an extra firm silken variety, then fried, which is not the correct type of tofu for this basic substitution. When I called and asked POLITELY to see what they would do to try to make things right, which I never do in this situation but it was so bad I had to, the hostess had to go back and forth to JIMY HIMSELF who said he would put more peanuts on next time, so to make the dish incorrectly TWICE was his remedy She then said I could receive a refund for the Kung Pao since a key component was left out of the dish. The experimental dish was not refundable. I agreed to this and told her I would stop by later today. Then I received a call directly from Jimy who angrily told me that since the peanuts were left out he would refund me $1 only! I have lived in lots of big and smaller cities and like to try local eateries that come recommended but this quality of food and even worse service BY THE OWNER takes the cake. So, to sum up, cheap and terrible food with very few vegan options, unlike most Chinese restaurants, and also HORRIBLE service. He yelled at me that he doesn't want my business and he has no need to worry about that happening. I was ready to write this off to the new owners and possibly new chef, since that is who the article says is now in place but since Jimy called me himself, no excuses whatsoever. Hope the new owners eventually reject Jimy's customer service advice as well s hire better chefs. And for what it's worth, their small containers of chili oil spilled all over the containers of food several times. The hostess had to repack it after the second try and even after I asked her to put them in a separate smaller bag inside the larger take out bag, the lids still popped off and oil spilled everywhere. This is not my usual experience when eating take out Chinese or any food with these containers of sauces. Save your money and go to Helen's Gourmet on Fresno and Alluvial or China Bistro on Perrin and Champlain and there are likely many others better than this dive claiming to be a decent restaurant. I also can recommend BluFin Sushi as an extraordinary sushi place for vegans and non-vegans that is a couple of doors down from Jimy's in the same strip. I am going to give plusses and minuses for Jimy Wen's. We went there for the first time recently for lunch, and I can applaud the quality of the lunch plates and price. We had orange chicken and Mongolian beef lunch plates. Both were tasty and very adequate lunches for reasonably heavy eaters like us. $12. I do wish they had entrees for lunch. I didn't notice any on the menu--just lunch plates. I can't say the orange chicken is better than Shanghai's, but this might be a personal taste issue. It's certainly fine. My overall assessment of the fare was that it was decent Chinese food at a good price but nothing I would rave about. I would certainly go there again. Now here is the negative... There is a sign they have ready to put out when necessary (apparently frequently necessary) that there will be a 45 minute wait. There are two reasons for it: Limited wait staff (2 very nice ladies), and the biggest reason of all: JIMI WEN'S NEEDS TO MAKE A CHOICE BETWEEN TAKEOUT AND DINE-IN CUSTOMERS, AND FOCUS ON ONE OR THE OTHER BECAUSE TRYING TO DO BOTH IS ROBBING DINE-INS OF QUALITY SERVICE! We waited an inordinate amount of time to be waited on, to get our food, and to get the check. It was clear that they were swamped by phone orders for lunch, and diners were getting ignored, hence the reason for the 45 minute warning sign. (Note it was almost empty when we got there for lunch, and we still had problems getting our food.) It took over an hour to dine, and typically we take about 30-45 mins. anywhere else. At my recommendation on Facebook, a friend went there for dinner. Here is what she posted afterward: We went tonight but after an hour and a half never got anything more than our first appetizer, the waitress was as sweet as could be and didn't charge us but unfortunately the cook seemed to be focusing only on to go orders and not paying attention to his in-house customers. THAT IS THE PROBLEM! Either this is a restaurant or a take-out place! Diners are getting ignored so the cook(s) can take care of phone orders. That turns me off and is disrespectful to customers. Cut one or cut the other, but insulting your diners by making us wait an inordinate amount of time for basic service because you're willing to take endless phone orders makes this a restaurant many people will want to avoid. I'll try this restaurant one more time for sure, but if I get the same issue of waiting 15 minutes for a menu, and 30+ minutes for a meal because the cook is swamped with phone orders and there aren't enough staff, I'll stick with Shanghai. Again--I recommend people try the place, but be warned: we and friends I know both encountered uncomfortable wait times because of all the phone-in orders that tie up the kitchen! Came here for dinner with a coworker on a Tuesday. Apparently, they close at 7pm during the week...so no late night dining here. This place is located in a small strip mall so there's plenty of parking available. But closing at 7pm probably means they don't get enough business to stay open after such time. Does that also mean the food isn't that great? Guess I'll never know! read more

Went in for lunch today with my granddaughter and what a nice experience! I had the lunch special with spicy chicken and the flavors so perfectly balanced ( thanks for some SPICE ), as were the proportions of meat to noodles/rice to vegetables to sauce. So tasty. Reasonably priced and big portions...We gladly took home "dinner." Will be back when you reopen next month....can't wait! read more

We read the reviews, they were good. Some locals were absolutely raving about the place. So we tried it. It wasn't off the charts like we expected by the reviews and word of mouth. There were some good things. The orange chicken was meh... sweet and sour pork was mushy..and sauce was orange...no taste just orange. Everything else had a layer of fat on it that coated your lips and inside of your throat.. not a pleasing feeling unless you are in an eating contest and want an advantage to swallow your food faster. One thing I can absolutely say is that their Miso soup was amazingly good and loaded with shrimp and mushrooms and everything else that makes Miso soup delicious. I might give them another try if we ever get out of this covid lock down. Maybe a sit down meal will be better rather than pick up. I will definitely return for more Miso soup though. read more

What can I say about this place but WOW! It's been a long time since a restaurant has truly wowed me. The food was served very hot and fresh which was surprising since usually I receive my food always semi-hot to Luke anywhere else. All three dishes on our table were flavourful and the chefs kiss. Usually Oriental food I've had is always smothered in msg and sauce but this was a perfectly well balanced dish of noodles meat and vegetables. The soup my husband ordered came piping hot which he loves. The chili oil was the best I've had to date. I loved that the chili oil wasn't stored on the table because you never know what has been done to it and never looks appealing sitting on the table top. My ordered the egg rolls they crisp hot and had a wonderful side sauce. This place may be my new favorite place. Our server gave us a rundown of the restaurant history and the re-opening under new ownership and how the take the time to always tweak the recipes to fit different tastes and experiences.
