I came here for dinner and it was an unpleasant experience. So it was three of us and we ordered ramens. First the waiter was not very helpful he rushed us and didn't help us when we ordered the food. So I ordered the ramen and it was lukewarm almost room temperature, so with ramen you can see when it is not hot enough because the fat is on the soup. So I returned my soup for them to make it hotter. Then my friend's soup was also cold and he didn't want to heat it up and when he did it was still cold. Ramen should always be hot to be enjoyed properly. We also ordered bao buns and the boa buns texture was off; bao buns should be soft and pillowy. These bao buns were dry and flat. It was also cold and not appetizing. I would definitely not come back here, the last time I came years ago it was really good. So I am unsure of what happened but it is disappointing because there is not alot of ramen options in Harlem. We also saw other people receive their soups hot with steam coming out so I'm unsure if our food was the only one who came out unappetizing.
We happen to be walking by and just walked in and we are so glad we did. It's a nice and cozy small spot rich with its beautiful history of how they came about making their mark in the food industry. The food are decent sized portions & the drinks were good. The Japanese curry was very delicious. We originally walked in this area craving a former Japanese curry spot that closed down but found this place and they did not disappoint. Everything was very tasty and you could tell it was made with love and care. The service was great staff was nice, they had some great recommendations I highly recommend you make a pit stop and try it for yourself.
Both of us were unfamiliar with West Harlem and we ended up coming to Jin Ramen, a ramen spot recommended in Michelin Bib Gourmand. They have an extensive menu with all types of ramen and brothless ramen. Overall it's a good ramen spot and worth a try if you're near one of their three locations in the city. The kuro tonkotsu features a rich broth packed with black garlic oil aroma. The grilled cha shu was smoky and perfectly glazed with sweet sauce. The soft-boiled egg was cooked to perfection. They used thin noodles which held the soup pretty well. My friend ordered their signature spicy tonkotsu. The broth was quite spicy in Japanese food standard, but not overbearing. A nice option if you want to spice up your ramen. You can get a complimentary yuzu drink if you order an entree. It was so refreshing for this weather and cleansed our palate after the meal.
I ordered the Spicy Tonkatsu ramen, which had broth with the perfect level of spice. Although it was starting to get hot out, the broth hit the spot. The noodles were al dente and chewy, but they didn't particularly stand out to me. We were also given complimentary yuzu green tea -- although I might had misremembered the exact drink. The drink was refreshing, both tart and sweet. I also tried the bacon okonomiyaki, which was honestly my favorite part of the meal. All the flavors just worked so well together, and I kept wanting more. I would go back for just the okonomiyaki alone! The decor was very vibey, tying into the wooden furniture and walls. The Jin Ramen story and noodle-making process playing on the TV was interesting. The service was very attentive, and the staff was friendly.
Stopped in here for a lunch break while on a 20 mile hike through NYC. This place was the perfect spot to break for an extremely filling lunch and pick me up. The food was served hot and fresh. The employees were kind, but did forget to bring our sauces - no worries it happens. The place was empty for a Sunday, there was lots of seating. I must say the lunch special is a great deal - you should definitely try it. The prices were more than fair. I would definitely add this to my list of places to eat at again in NYC for how convenient, quick, and fresh the food is. Excited to try different items, like their ramen! For a vegetarian, it was good to see multiple options.
Came here with my friend for our annual ramen date-- a little tradition we unintentionally started a few years ago. The space is small but can has many small tables and the ambiance is cool with dim lighting and different photos and even action figure pieces on the walls. We got the veggie gyozas and karaage to start which left a lot to be desired, to put it simply the food lacked flavor :/ as our time there went on and we waited for our main dish, ramen, our waiter barely attended us and we had to flag him down several times to ask for more water, napkins and drinks. Even when my friend returned her drink bc she didn't like it after just one sip, the waiter rolled his eyes and gave us such a deep sigh, we found the interaction very rude as if we had insulted him directly. Finally our ramen came out. I got the shrimp ramen and my friend the chimi ramen. It was much more flavorful than the appetizers but nothing very special. The consensus: we've had better elsewhere. I wouldn't highly recommend this place considering the service was significantly lacking and the food was mid at best....
Came here for dinner in a Sunday in a group of 3 at around 7:15pm. We did not have a reservation but were seated right away since the place wasn't too busy. There is plenty of seating in the front but also extra tables in the back/side area. Our server was very nice and attentive of our table. Our food was ready pretty quickly after arrival. We tried: - Chicken Nanban Buns: the buns were soft but they were cold. The chicken filling was a little bit warmer but it just tasted sweet without too much more dimension. The cabbage salad on the side was pretty bitter. Would not order again. - Shoyu Ramen: I've had very good ramen since I'm from the West Coast and had high expectations for this place but they definitely fell short. Even though the noodles were really well cooked and had a nice texture/thickness, the broth was way too salty and did not have any other flavor to it since it was so overpowering. The portion of pork that it came with was also significantly smaller than what I'm used to. The half boiled egg was good and added some balance to the ramen but again it wasn't enough to overcome the saltiness of the shoyu based broth. - Japanese Curry Ramen: my boyfriend ordered this and he thought it was good! I tried it and I agree that it was pretty good! I loved the curly noodles and how well cooked they were. The sweetness of the curry with all the spices was very nice. There was also a nice umami kick from the Parmesan cheese and some acidity from the lemon. The chicken katsu portion was generous and flavorful with a good crisp to it. If I came back here this is probably what I would order instead. - Tonkotsu Ramen: my mom tried this and she really enjoyed it. She is a big ramen fan and said the portion was generous. She was particularly fond of the thinner ramen noodles here. She said the broth wasn't too greasy but also said that the pork portion was small. However she really liked it in general. Overall, even though the ambiance and service were great, I was a little disappointed by the food I ordered. I think if you are craving ramen there are some dishes here that are good but it doesn't seem to be good across the board and might be more hit or miss. I will likely come back here to give it another chance though since it is well liked amongst some of my friends and maybe it was just a blip!
I dined at Jin ramen with a friend who has tree nut allergies. They were very careful and accomodating of her allergy. The food was delicious, the service was warm and the atmopshere was laidback! I will definitely be back Lunch - Hiyayakko, Chicken Gyoza Dumpling , generous portion of edamame, chicken nanban buns (SO good) as is the coleslaw they are served with! + dog friendly for outdoor dining
Compared to its sister restaurant in the UWS, much more space is available here. Prices aren't cheap, but the food is solid. Lots of options on their menu. We got a chirashi rice bowl ($29) and a Tonkotsu ramen ($19) , and they were both really good. The sashimi in the rice bowl was very fresh, and the broth of the ramen - even though it could have had more vegetables - was very flavorful.
Came during lunch & ordered my favorite tonkatsu ramen, tuna yukke don, & pork belly over rice. Everything was fresh & delicious. Servings were generous & the price was fair. The wait staff were friendly & efficient. We don't feel rush although the place is bustling. Well come again. This is my all time favorite ramen spot. Highly recommends.

I came here almost every month in undergrad and this was the exact order I'd get. It's been a while so I was super excited. The baos were pretty good, just a little sloppy which made it difficult to eat. What disappointed me was the ramen. It didn't taste like the tonkotsu that I remembered; it wasn't rich in umami and thick, characteristic of tonkotsu. It was quite thin, and darker in color. It also tasted strongly of ginger and soy. I was so confused I thought perhaps we got the wrong order but it was not. The service was my least favorite part of the meal. Our glasses were never refilled; the server disappeared for so long that we waited over 40 mins before we could ask for our check. To this day I'm confused where he went. Not gonna return anytime soon. 3 stars because the baos were good and food wasn't bad but this place is no longer the same.
Decent food, but poor service. Came here today to get lunch with my husband. We were seated right away. What we ordered Rice bowl - flavorful Tonkotatsu ramen - broth was lighter than other places but good. The noodles were chewy and the chashu was delicious. Service was disappointing and failed to do the basics. By basics, simple things like getting your guest a glass of water upon being seated. Our server asked us if we wanted water after we placed our order. We said yes but she never came back with the water. Getting the bill was another struggle, my husband tried to catch her attention but she never came back. So I had to call out "excuse me, can we get the check?" I understand if it was busy but the lunch rush was over by the time my husband and I came in.

Solid ramen place that's taken me WAY too long to get to, considering it's been right in my neighborhood for quite some time. I'm currently getting over some kind of sinus infection and I wanted a nice comforting bowl of ramen while avoiding the Knicks chaos this past Wednesday night. Walked in around 6:30pm and the place was bigger than I expected (did they expand into 2 storefronts?) and it must have been pre-dinner rush because I was immediately seated. They had SO many different appealing ramen options including a whole list of "New York Style" ones inspired by different city cultures, but I went with the basic Shoyu Ramen because the garlic and ginger-based broth called out to my sinuses. Tasty, well-seasoned, great noodle texture (Shoyu Ramen contained thicker noodles than standard ramen), delicious broth and quite hearty! I was quite stuffed after finishing. Only thing I would say was the egg. It seems they may have skimped on the egg quality and that's my favorite ramen topping. A better-tasting egg would have made this 5 stars. Also got a Yuzu Green Tea Lemonade. Bit of an initial tastebud shock at first, then quickly becomes refreshing and addicting. Staff were very friendly and attentive and made it a pleasure to have a solo bowl of ramen there. The mark of a good ramen spot that left an impact on me? When I'm still thinking about it the next morning. Well-played Jin Ramen, I'll most certainly be back. There's so many options left to try! read more

First time diner but definitely will not be my last. We arrived on Saturday right before the afternoon rush. We ordered a few appetizers and Ramen bowls. Their Yuzu green lemonade is such a palette cleanse. My favorite appetizers were the Purple yam fries with this banging sauce in the side. The fried shumai were big and full of flavor. The Tuna ceviche I had as my entree with two sides of wonton chips sooooo tasty. Katsu was my least favorite no flavor profile at all. My partner had the chicharron ramen didn't get a picture because someone didn't wait lol. Ambiance is very authentic to the culture which I can appreciate. read more

Really had no complaints about this place! Super accessible by train (literally below the tracks but dw you can't really hear inside). There's actually a lot of seating. Ordered: Vegetable Ramen 5/5 The broth was absolutely delicious! Probably one of the best broths I've had at a ramen spot. The flavors meshed so well together! Ramen was served pretty quickly on a thursday night. Service was good! No complaints really, they checked in often. I would for sure come back here. read more

I walked into Jin Ramen on a whim--I had seen some people going inside for lunch and I was craving some noodles. I had heard Jin Ramen's menu was created in partnership with a Japanese noodle consultant, which I thought was interesting. The indoor dining area includes bar, booth, and table seating. I sat at the bar and watched the chefs putting orders together, which was nice. I ordered the tonkotsu ramen, which was $18 and comes with chashu pork and an egg on top. The soup is fine and noodles were good, but the toppings were so weirdly sweet--the pork, the seasoned egg, and the bamboo shoots. It really threw me off and immediately gave me the ick. This place definitely gave me a warm home feeling. I came here to try their bao buns (unfortunately they didn't have it but something similar) And the ramen noodles, we arrive just in time when they opened (1130 AM) parking was a breeze, there's parking everywhere We had the 2pc tofu bun ($10) Kimchee ramen noodles ($20) spicy Vegetable ramen noodles ($17) Everything was very good and came out at a good time. The Resturant is very small and intimate, not much of decorations just straight to the point. read more
I have been coming to Jin Ramen for years! I have never had a bad experience. The staff is always friendly even if all you are doing is ordering take out. I love their different ramens. My favorite is the Kuro Tonkotsu. The black garlic oil and the creamy broth is delicious. I'm not really a fan of pork buns but I do enjoy their Chicken Nan buns. It has a nice kick and I love the cabbage they give you to eat with. It's a block away from where I live so I will continue to come here and enjoy the food read more
Solid ramen! The broth was quite flavorful, and the noodles were chewy and delicious. The bowl was very large and very deep. The volcano tonkotsu wasn't necessarily spicy, and it wasn't the best ramen I have tried, but I enjoyed this bowl nonetheless! The service was great and the food came out quickly. We were pleasantly surprised; especially considering that we came in as a large group with no reservation. read more

Was excited to try Jin ramen based on the reviews but unfortunately it really missed the mark. The service and ambiance of the place was fine and they put up these barriers between the seats indoors which is great. They also actually check for ID and COVID vaccination card unlike many places in NYC. We tried their karaage, Tonkotsu ramen, and Shio ramen. The karaage was slightly dry but flavor was good and the dipping sauce added a nice touch. Unfortunately, both ramens were disappointing. The Tonkotsu broth was a little lighter than what we were used to and the noodles were soggy. There really wasn't much depth of flavor in the broth. The Shio ramen, despite being a chicken broth, had absolutely no flavor other than salt and I could barely tell it was a chicken broth. The noodles were these flat noodles that resembled pho noodles and were extremely soggy. One of the first times I didn't finish my bowl of ramen. I don't think we'll be returning to Jin. read more

Jin makes good for the hood. I am so glad to have a solid ramen go-to whenever we get the crave (which is probably about once a month). We almost always get the Spicy Tonkotsu and the Kimchi Ramen, but have also had the Green Curry Ramen, Fried Gyoza, Kara-age, Pork Belly, Pork Buns, and Dry Ramen. Never a wrong choice. read more

Came here with my boyfriend as he wanted to try this Ramen place . We ordered to go . The customer service was good & we didn't wait long for our order . I ordered the Shio Ramen. The ramen was just okay to me . It is pricey , however you get a good amount . Maybe the ramen I chose just wasn't up to my standards compared to other ramens Ive ate . read more
Came here on a Saturday night -- relatively busy as expected. Wait time versus the estimate was a bit long and it took a while for our server to come around to our table once seated, but the food came out pretty quickly. You can expect to pay average prices here for ramen; the buns are pretty pricy. Pork Buns - While relatively expensive, these buns melt in your mouth and leave you wishing you had just ordered a bunch of these and called it a night. The pork is incredibly tender and breaks apart very easily; sauce is sweet and smooth; buns are fluffy. Kuro Shio Ramen - Ordered with the additional bamboo shoots, the ramen was pretty good. The broth was mild, but pretty tasty; the noodles were tender. The fried chicken was good, but of course the breading doesn't hold up very well sitting in the broth, leaving a somewhat undesirable texture on the otherwise tasty chicken. CAUTION!! Ramen will be more filling than it appears!! I've been to lot of ramen places in NYC and sometimes you still have some space after finishing your bowl, this definitely was not one of those places. I had Hiyayakko with beautifully presented ingredients for great texture and balanced flavors, also got vegan miso ramen which was not too salty but still had flavorful punch with creamy broth, plenty veggies and bouncy noodles that definitely more than filled me up! I'm one very satisfied customer!! read more
Super convenient local ramen place in Morningside Heights. Whenever I have friends over and we're craving ramen, this is our go to spot. Super fast service if you're dining in, but if you're trying to get take out, it'll be a wait. read more
I'm still in the restaurant and I have never ever been served so disrespectfully in my life. I will continue when time permits but I could not wait for the disrespect that came with the food. Now that time permits, first things first. I made a reservation online, called in and the young man on the phone said that they don't honor because a lot goes on so we can just walk in and we might not be seated right away Ok. Fine. I get to Jin and I am greeted, I use greeted very lightly, by a young hostess/ waiter. He explains to us in a very very low tone why we can't be seated right away because of social distancing guidelines. I could not hear him as he was very soft spoken, I ask him to speak up he proceeds to roll his eyes and I said you know what nevermind. We wait maybe 5-10 mins and we are seated right after someone gets up. The vibe was kind of off as I kept observing and sitting there. I honestly don't know what the issue was because I was giving the "greeting" the benefit of the doubt. (I'm almost at the food) I go to wash my hands and I realize there is a whole other section that was completely empty except for a couple who had the whole section to theirselves (picture below)This was really confusing being the front room was as full as it gets. Now to the food: the edamame was not well prepared. The Karragge chicken was good this was not served hot at all. Still I stay because the Ramen. I eat Phõ and Ramen a lot a lot. I had to place my order with a different waiter as our waiter never came back over to us, I requested mushrooms in my Ramen, when my Ramen came it only had two pieces of meat. I was informed that I had to pay extra for more. Beware if you want more than two pieces of meat DO NOT GO HERE. I have never seen anything like it. I will definitely stick to my favorite Ramen spot in Washing Heights from now on. What ended it for me was the insult to my intelligence. Mushrooms were not present in my Ramen and the waiter tried to tell me that the mushrooms were present in my Ramen when they were not! I forgot to mention I mistakenly spilled the soy sauce for the edamame, pointed this out to the waiter and not only did he not offer to help me clean it, extra napkins were not provided until I asked. I know this is a lot, but it doesn't compare to how I felt from this service received. I have never been treated this way in my life. I am the least disrespectful person known to man. The service was inexcusable. The special treatment and cater to other patrons made me feel like I was back in the 50's. I will never be back here! Ever! Good job at treating people unequal. An empty area as we walked in. They said there is no available seating However, there was only two people that was seated near the window with the rest of this space by them and only found out about this seating as I went to the bathroom. After, ordering ramen (which I asked for mushrooms) they proceeded to bring me a bland ramen bowl with ONLY two small pieces of pork and NO mushrooms. Then tried to act dumb when I said there're no mushrooms. The waiter pointed to the seaweed & said that was the mushrooms. I eat ramen all the time and cook myself so I KNOW that was mushrooms. Service was disappointing. I will NEVER come back here neither will I ever recommend this place! read more
