    Side dishes

Very comforting Taiwanese side dish and porridge spot - lots of side dish options to pick from and all are done pretty well. Side dishes lean on the oily side but we're all pretty good! Great place to go with other people so you can pick multiple side dishes and split - ended up paying ~13 per person for 3 side dishes I think you can opt for no porridge and do regular rice but the porridge is done pretty well. It is a soupy type (I know some places go thicker) and cooked well because the starch from the rice was extracted into the soup. Also has yams in it for a nice sweetened touch. I also saw if you go an hour before closing (9 or 10 I think) you get a discount

Oyster omelet, egg plant, ti pang aka pork shank

We went at 8pm when they had the 20% discount. Ordered 3 dishes along with porridge for 2, and the total came out to be around $30 with tax. Very good value! The porridge was bland but all the dishes we got were flavorful. My fave was the soy-braised egg plant. The oyster omelet was yummy but oily. The pork shank was also tasty - mild spice, a bit too salty but went well with the porridge. Service was fast and no-frill. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It wasn't too busy when we went.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Note that they do start cleaning up around 8:45pm, so I'd recommend timing your visit accordingly.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We didn't see any hygiene concerns this time around, though the tea pots did look pretty old.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Overall, I would recommend based on this first visit and will come back to try more dishes!

This was one of our favorite spots for years. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Not having been here in awhile because of their other closer location, their cleanliness went down, way down.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I was kind of upset because the stainless steel teapot they brought out was just nasty dirty, sticky, and gross![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I did let them know as I left and the young man promised to clean them, but I won't be back for awhile. Another complaint I have was everything was just a tad warm. Even the first pot of porridge out, although the second pot was steaming. I feel as if they no longer care about their quality, room temperature food is not good when it should be very warm or at least hot!

A great spot for to go or DoorDash delivery. I always get the family combo which comes with 4dishes plus a porridge. The meatballs are a must and switch up the other options, but usually do the fish fillet and the ground pork with the veggies like the sautéed a choy with garlic.

Been here for over decades and I always come back every time I visit. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is very homie and casual and for the price, it's worth it.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My friends and I got 3 options and 4 options lunch plates and that was plenty to eat. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Shop is small but still clean and service was great.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Highly recommend for those that like casual porridge and soul food.

Outright Terrible service !!! We came in at 6:40pm and ordered at the counter. Our meal receipt ...... note time: 7:05pm at 7:08pm this waiter pushing the cart has the nerve to ask us to leave!!! Claiming there is 1 party waiting needing your table. There are other empty tables! Plus, we were in the restaurant less than 35 minutes!!! Yes. They serve us fast but we are fast eaters! 15-20 minutes, we finished the meal. There are two other parties near our table came after us and still eating, but we already boxed up our food & paid! They asked us (not politely) to LEAVE!! ZERO star!!! Will not be back!! Food is 2.5 Porridge is pretty good cooked with yams (4) ; Ground Pork with melon is extra fatty (2); bacon meat with tofu is not bad. The bacon like meat was stewed to soft & tasty with its braised sauce (3); on Choy with garlic (2) is too salty with salt sticking on the vegetable. Please finish cooking before bringing it to the table. Cafeteria style restaurant. One has to order up front & the wait staff was cordial, bringing the food to the table quickly. Very efficient.

Rice Sweet Potato Porridge, Eggplant with Soy Sauce, Sauteed Spinach with Garlic

I ordered their basic rice porridge with eggplant and spinach sides. The side dishes were delicious and the rice porridge had a surprising bonus of sweet potato! I would say the waiters don't seem the most patient but that's when you know the atmosphere is busy because they have good food. Recommend porridge for someone who may not feel well-

    鹌鹑蛋豆腐

鵪鶉蛋豆腐 Quail Egg and Tofu very spicy, no other taste. No salt, no oil only hot . Disgusting, yukky. 蔥油雞 Green Onion Sauce Chicken, no flavor bland. Just boils chicken, 酸菜肚絲 Stir-fried Pork Maws with Pickled Mustard Greens. Pork maws has special flavor like they didn't washed it thoroughly. Spiced tofu is a little bit bigger than your thumb. Bad experience. I will never order anything from this restaurant. Portion is good, because after one bite you don't want to try another one. So it's good enough for ten people.I threw at lease 3/4 into garage

Lunch Special - pick 3 or 4 dishes - Served with Taiwanese Porridge/Congee
    rosa S.

Accidental find on our road trip - reminiscent of lunch spots in Taipei that have authentic, home cooked flavors. We got 3 plates of the pick 3 or 4 dishes lunch special that comes with a healthy helping of rice porridge with sweet potato. Service was efficient, clean and helpful, even for first timers. You get a seat, then go to the counter to pick the 3 or 4 dishes lunch sampler. My spouse was so excited about flavors that he ordered more take out for dinner! Lol. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Cafe style seating four tops and some larger tables for groups.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Clean modernized restrooms which are a bonus.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

4 item lunch plate: Pork stomach with pickled vegetables, sautéed bamboo shoots, pig's feet, jellyfish salad.

This is located at the far right of the shopping center that has Lion Market, closer to bakery called Mian Bao House and Tapioca Express. They have been serving their 3 item lunch/dinner with porridge or steamed rice for years. Great food at great a good price point. 4 item lunch plate: Pork stomach with pickled vegetables, sautéed bamboo shoots, pig's feet, jellyfish salad. Service is nice and friendly. They are busy during lunch/dinner hours, but service is always friendly.

So this place I would have never even considered going to on my own. We're talking about porridge. Every Asian household has served porridge and would never go to a restaurant for it. But I'm glad i gave this place a try. [[HIGHLIGHT]]As you walk inside, you'll walk to the back and you'll see a whole display of hot foods to choose from. Kinda like a Chinese express where the server is scooping your food and moving you down the line.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It's recommended for two to get 2-3 dishes to eat with the porridge. We got 6. I said this might be the first and last time, might as well go big. I was also hungry too. Once you have selected all the dishes you want, the server will bring it to your table where you'll have a bowl filled with porridge waiting for you. Mind you, Taiwan porridge is bland. So you'll have to add the umami yourself. I'd recommend the ground pork in the porridge. At some point after every empty bowl of porridge, I just started mixing different dishes in there. Haha all good. Don't knock it til you try it I guess. I'd come back !

Date of Visit: 12/11/2022 Taiwan Porridge is one of the best dinner option in rainy days! Taiwan Porridge located in Milpitas is my favorite Taiwanese porridge restaurants in Bay Area. Walked in on Sunday evening and ordered at the counter. We got Sweet Basil with Scramble Eggs, Pork Blood, Intestine, Tofu with Spicy Sauce. These are made to order dishes. And we also got pig ears, pig feet and cabbage stew from the counter. There were a big bowl of sweet potato porridge for everyone to share. Can ask for a refill if not enough for the table.

I love Taiwanese food, and this restaurant is pretty good. I always love Taiwanese ground pork rice…read moreso that was great. The tofu went pretty hard as well. I expected a dissent kind of Taiwanese sausage but that's on me for not knowing the menu. Service was good. There was plenty of space on a weekday night. A waiter told me they don't take credit cards when I was trying to pay. I was like, okay, maybe I should have done more research before I went there. So I tried to talk to him to see if there's any other options, like Zelle or Venmo, or maybe I can go to a nearby ATM and get some cash. He ignored me and did not respond, and left. I walked around, was finally able to get a waitress who was willing to talk to me. I explained that I didn't know they only took cash and I wonder if I can pay through other ways. She pointed at the wall and told me "it says on the wall", sounding like blaming me for not getting cash ready. Yes, maybe I should have read all the signs on the wall, but I really don't enjoy being blamed when I did nothing wrong. Assuming credit cards as one of the payment methods is not my fault, just how the society works. Anyway, I was able to pay them via Venmo, but I did not enjoy the experience at all.

Both were really good but my favorite was still the shrimp. I loved the veggies in the roll too. They can be a bit hard to pick up and eat because they're massive and cut into thirds. Other than that, the rice noodles are thin and silky and hold the sauce nicely. The sauce is also delicious. We also ordered the fish congee which was simple but comforting.
