Great all you can eat option! You get rolls, appetizers and a desert with the option. I wouldn't count on this location for accommodating large parties or watching something like a game on TV though. It's not super big and the 2 TVs were pretty old. BUT that's not why we were there. The sushi was really good and the employees were incredibly friendly. We were all taken care of frequently with our orders and drinks. This location isn't far from home and I'd definitely come back to try it out again. read more

This place is so inviting. You are greeted by all the workers when you walk in, and they gave us the choice of the bar or a table. We sat at the bar. There are tvs on both sides if you are interested. There is a sign up that says bogo beer on certain days, Sunday is one, but I can remember the other day. They do have some sushi rolls separated into a dinner menu only, but most rolls are on the all you can eat lunch menu. They have a big variety. And you can get hand and long rolls. Fish is fresh and rice is nicely seasoned. The speeding is so delicious. They torch the salmon on top. Yum yum. Their Donald duck, mickey, and goofy nigiri are fabulously made. They are perfect. This sushi place was recently named in Reno's top so I wanted to check it out. It's located in the Safeway parking lot which allows for plenty of parking. The place in a little small but totally worth it. Seems like it's family ran and owned for the most part and they get lots of regulars. The service is great and the food was amazing. We loved the Donald Duck, JJ's #2 and the Speeding. We will definitely be back. I'm surprised I hadn't had this sushi place sooner. read more

My fiancé and I have been to JJ's sushi a few times now and it never disappoints us. The rice is always fresh and she preparation of each dish is perfection. I ordered chicken teriyaki and tempura. I was surprised the chicken was a little tough with light sauce. I wasn't fond of the tempura, a little different from what I am used to eating. I am still willing to try again... the customer service was great. The restaurant had a relaxed presence and was pretty clean. My friend had California rolls and was very satisfied and stated the rolls were very fresh. I'm sure the sushi is outstanding but I do not eat seafood. Been coming to JJ's sushi for years now. They are my go to sushi spot in town. When it comes to quality, flavor and service they can't be beat. Their sushi is always fresh and you can tell that the fish they use is of great quality. They offer AYCE and are decently priced. My favorite go to appetizers are yakiton, miso, hamachi nigiri and edamame. You cannot go wrong with any of these options. Their yakiton here cannot be beat elsewhere. The rolls I recommend are the killer, mango island, the rocky, jjs #2 or the sweet talk if you are looking for a dessert roll. This sushi spot is one of a kind because the owner's Joe and Jessie make their own teriyaki sauce and it take about 24 hrs to make and they make sure it is perfect! The space is a bit smaller but makes for a more intimate setting. It can get loud however when it fills in but you can still enjoy a conversation with. I had to give JJ's a five star because every time I've been here the service has been great very prompt very efficient and most of all very yummy. I Don't stray very much from what I eat and the San Francisco and the upside down shrimp are my definite go-to's. Staff is very friendly I had my order to go when I got here it was ready and all bagged up. So it's kind of a hole in the wall I guess it's in the Safeway complex on Vista so it's pretty convenient for a lot of people especially if you're on your way home from work. The restaurant is tiny so if you're here with a large group, I'd call in advance to check the waitlist. The prices are reasonable, but like to come for AYCE dinner (offer more food items). Service was fine. But the hygiene of the restaurant wasn't great. I had to clean my plate and soy sauce dish again with napkins. Food quality: It's just too much rice to fish ratio. This place should be an average or below the average for the price. There are much better restaurants in Reno for almost the same price. Kuma is one of then. I'm surprised this place has over 4 stars rating. I mostly ordered nigiri, and fish quality was not that great and very thin. Interior looks old and outdated too. JJ Sushi is still our go-to neighborhood sushi place! Jessie has always been so wonderful, she even remembers my kids when they were little, running around the dining room...so it's been a while! That's the kind of service that makes a mark on you; when an owner recognizes you and your family after years and years and greets you like a friend. We just came in for AYCE this week while the kids are on winter break and had another good visit. Hubby and I both noticed the rice was a bit gummier than usual, but still OK. A few times we got a wrong order, maybe the menu print is small and hard to read for the chef...I know it is for me! (I'm now this old...grabs for reading glasses) It is a small dining room area, so it gets busy at peak times. Solid sushi for a fair price and always service with a smile. Giving this place 1 star and I don't even feel right doing that! This is one of the worst sushi places we have eaten at and we've gone to a lot of them. First of all, the rice to sushi ratio is terrible. Sliver of sushi (nigiri) to a huge glob of sticky rice (super gummy btw). When we ordered all you can eat they charged us for any pieces left mind you the pieces we got weren't ordered they brought the wrong ones. They also brought a bunch of other wrong nigiri and replaced it with the right ones that had tons of gummy rice and barely any fish. The seared roll we had ordered tasted extremely smokey and almost like chemicals so we didn't eat it and we told them and they still charged for it. Then asked if we wanted to take it home as if we could even eat it in the first place. The manager was rude once asked for her because our server wasn't helping any with the bill from what we couldn't eat because it was gross. All in all it was a terrible experience and we had brought our family there for a special valentines weekend out. Super disappointed and upset. We won't be going again and wouldn't recommend this place to anyone! We used to go there years ago and it was never like this. Sushi was always good and fresh, the rice was good and the staff was friendly. Sad to say it isn't anything like that now. If you order a roll on the all you can eat and don't like it they will charge you for it is their policy. My partner and I just moved to Sparks and had a craving for some sushi. We picked JJ Sushi our first dinner outing in our new home. We arrived about an hour before closing (9pm) and were seated right away at the sushi bar. Our sushi chef was great! He was very helpful and made some killer rolls. The Black Tiger roll and the Spider roll were a couple of our favorite. We also asked about the specialty Nigiri Sushi, they had a few Disney characters to choose from but ended up trying the Mickey Mouse (pictured). Heard JJ jn sparks was good sushi compared to some fav spots in Reno. Came by on a Monday evening around 730pm and we're seating immediately at a table. Ambiance wasn't the greatest; all lights are bright and it just seemed very mediocre. They have 4 veggie rolls (all priced $6-$7) on the menu and we ordered them all. Nothing too special about the rolls, but my favorite was the spicy veggie one. All other rolls seemed to blend in and taste the same. I figured, veggie sushi isn't their thing. Miso soup was very good so def give that a try. The ginger was very pink which tells me maybe it's dyed :/ Anyway, I wouldn't come back for the veggie sushi here as Hinoki and 2 tha joint in Reno are far more superior. read more

The sushi itself was decent, fresh enough, but nothing that stood out compared to other options in Reno. Service was lacking--we had to flag down staff multiple times for water refills or to get a new order sheet, which took away from the overall experience. Wanting to try somewhere new from my weekly stop at Tha Joint and ended up coming to Jj Sushi. I really wanted to love this place but I liked it, don't think I will be making a return any time soon though. Honestly, it felt like a gamble going there and I'm very happy I didn't end up with food poisoning. Let's start with the positive first, the staff was friendly and quick and eager to have us sat. While I was there though, a few people got turned away due to lots of reservations for a Sunday night (we got in for the lunch time). Really loved the BOGO free on any beers on Thursdays and Sundays because who doesn't love free booze?! The muscles, they were super cute the way they're prepared. And the Red Bull was definitely the best roll there! And oh my goodness, if I don't come back for the sushi, I'll come for the free beer and the tempura dessert. So good! It was as if an ice cream was fried in funnel cake batter and it was perfection. Unfortunately, the negatives outweigh the positive. Even though the muscles were presented nicely and tasted well, I bit into a tiny crab and it turned me off to my rolls with crab on them. I gave them a taste and it wasn't worth finding another grab in there. I like Tha Joint out of most places because they don't use a bunch of rice and it makes it easier to eat more for AYCE and these rolls got some weight to them, not as heavy as other places though. One of the crab rolls I tried, the fish in it was fishy, and that is not a very good indication when eating raw fish. I got a quail egg shooter and the tobiko was bad, like it tasted like bad fish breath. I'm not sure how well this place is with taking care of its fish but it really turned me off to having anything raw here again. read more

I've been to JJ Sushi 3-4 times over the years. It's one friends favorite place. His family goes there often. I used to go to this location and love it when it was Sushi Time. But sadly, it just doesn't work for me. Almost every time we have left disappointed. This last time it was in the warm rice. I expect my sushi to be cold and it came out warm. This was warmer than just sitting on the bar for 5+ minutes waiting for the server to deliver it. Prices are going up everywhere and I get that, but the value needs to still be there, and I just didn't feel the value. I don't eat as much sushi as I used to. So I am looking for an AYCE experience that doesn't make me feel like I am being "filled up" with cheap ingredients. We ordered a bunch of nigiri and 4 rolls between the 4 of us. Only 4 rolls because almost all of the rolls have something cooked or cream cheese on them. The variety is there.....just not in the raw way. The space is standard AYCE sushi space. Large bar and some surrounding tables. Nothing to make a date for but better than a chain fast food joint. I know business is hard, and I know the people working there are probably trying their best and many probably love it. I just think it's not really doing it for me here.
