This place is definitely a little hidden. You can't get through the front door but the entrance is in the back where they have a small parking lot. It's in the same building with a few other restaurants so entrance can be very hidden. Parking lot is slightly small, so street parking would be the other option I came here on a Tuesday night and the place gets more poppin the later it gets . Slightly small restaurant with a good amount of tables. The ambience is very cute and lighting is dim. Good spot for hangouts as well. Customer service was great! And we ordered so much drinks that they gave us another bottle of soju on the house. Table comes with a free mini pretzel stick bowl. One of my favorite pochas in K-Town! All LA pochas are expensive, but compared to pretty mediocre food from other places, Jjan definitely tastes the best! (still expensive though) The vibes are kinda grungy and intimate because it's such a small and dimly-lit space, but I honestly have so much fun every time. It's located in a plaza that looks pretty sketchy, but the inside of Jjan is always packed on a weekend night. Really fun to take friends or even a date if you like drinking. Decided to venture out on a Friday night. I got the 420 Fries (bomb!), fried dumplings (good), and the grilled pork belly with green onions (bomb). The menu is pretty large. It's a nice mix of Korean gastropub fare to soak up all the beer and soju. Happy hour until 8pm with very reasonable prices so the turn up comes cheap. It's a great place to have some drinks whether on a date or with a small group. Service was friendly. Crew are wearing masks. The outdoor seating is in the back parking lot area. Tables are spaced out and there's some lighting and tents. There's also hand sanitizer on the tables. Parking can be an issue, there's a small lot but it fills up fast. I'm not sure how good their food is but the vibe of this place was pretty chill. Soju and beer are priced well above the market price so I don't recommend coming here as your first stop. Try to get some buzz going so you don't end up ordering too many bottles. I spoke to them in Korean so they just gave me a menu all in Korean but I'm sure you can ask for a menu written in English. Certain dishes pair well with soju and some pair well with beer so if you are not sure what to order, just ask the server and they should be able to give you some recommendation. The definition of a hidden gem!!!! This is my first time writing Yelp review for a Korean restaurant, but I really liked this place! We came to LA looking for a bomb gopchang place, this place was actually our last resort since all the popular places closed early on Sunday. I didn't have high expectations but the food here was surprisingly good - we absolutely enjoyed every dish we ordered. The daechang wasn't even on the printed menu but it was beyond my expectations. You could taste the intestine smell but the mixed veggies complemented it so well. The only thing I didn't like was the sauce which was too spicy for me. My favorite dish was the regular corn cheese. It was perfectly cooked, sweet, and creamy. One of the best corn cheese I've ever had. Our table loved the budae jjigae and cleared it under 10 mins. The serving was BIG and so worth the price. The total came out to be 150 for a table of 4 including tips. If I have to name a con, I thought the music could be a little more upbeat and the place is a little old, but Im sure some people are into hole in the wall places. Would have loved to eat here but they're so unorganized with their seating. I had a party of 9. I called to ask if they had a waitlist or any wait time. They only had 1 party waiting and said the wait would be 30 minutes. There was no need for reservations, because it was just a put your name down on the waitlist and wait. I was fine with that. We arrive about 30 minutes later. We check the waitlist, 5 small (2-4 people) parties waiting. That was fine. I asked the host if it would be okay for a party of 9. They said possibly over 30 minutes to an hour wait. Cool, that sounds great. I put down my name for a party of 9. We wait outside for an hour, even more. They called more parties than what I recall (5 parties before us). We then asked the host about our standing because why are they letting in parties who are later in the waitlist? They said there was a party of 7 that reserved and it would take another hour of us waiting for a large table to clear. Reserved? They don't take reservations so this was weird. Another hour waiting? We already waited for over an hour. They then told us if this party of 7 does not arrive within 10 minutes, we would take their table. IT WAS WAY PASSED 10 MINUTES. And we still didn't get a table. They then proceed to call more parties that arrived waaaay later than us. We asked again then they compromised with us AN HOUR AND A HALF LATER (even more) that maybe we can split a table. We were fine with that but why wasn't that a suggestion AN HOUR AND A HALF AGO? Why were they okay with holding a table for almost an hour for a party that did not even arrive after their name was called and exceeded the call time frame? Why did they say a group reserved a table but told me on the phone there were no reservations? Then we went to another place that I called and they sat us in 10 minutes despite this place being way busier than JJAN. The music was good and I liked that the groups were pretty spread apart so it felt like an intimate outing with my friend since we were closed off with a barrier. The food was pretty good. I have tried several things here such as the seafood soup, the hot cheetos fries, spicy pork bulgogi, and the tonkatsu. Nothing is really amazing but it does pair well with the alcohol. When you're drinking, I think anything tastes good honestly but especially deep fried foods like fries and pork definitely hits the spot. A little pricey since we went thru bottles of soju and beer but I would recommend coming during the happy hour which ends at 7? Also another great plate. The chicken and that spicy sauce went soooo perfectly with the rice cakes. A little on the spicier side but if you're tolerant to spice - it's not problem. Looking for outdoor dining that's open late can be tough during these weird times. Luckily I stumbled upon a Jjan in ktown. Jjan is a little hole in the wall gastropub in ktown that will give you a huge bang for your buck. Showed up on a Friday night at about 730 not knowing what to expect. We knew they were only doing outdoor dining so we went straight to the parking lot located in the back. Unfortunately all the servers were busy attending so we had to wait until someone eventually noticed us. Once we caught someone's attention we were immediately seated in a foldable plastic table with little plastic stools. Our server let us know they were doing happy hour. To sum up their happy hour, all sojus are about $5 off and a pitcher of beer is only $10.99. It runs from 530-8. A few of their dishes are part of the happy hour as well if I remember correctly. After taking an unnecessary amount of soju shots we decided to order the 420 fries as well as their royal kimchi fried rice plate. The 420 fries is mixture of fries, hot cheetos, topped off with eggs and a ton of mayonnaise. Doesn't sound appealing at all but oddly enough it was very satisfying and tasty. The kimchi fried rice was just as expected. Favorite part was the pile of seaweed it came with. So good when you mix it all together with the fried rice and egg. Overall Jjan was a fun experience and I will be returning to attack their happy hour and enjoy the delicious greasy food. Just hope they have more servers next time. read more
