Joan's on Third was really the godfather of the current food hall craze that's been spreading through the Los Angeles culinary scene. The valley location is fairly new and a welcome addition to the valley. If you're not familiar with the food hall concept, it pretty much is what it is. It's a series of counters that offer different varieties of foods for your pleasure. It's often dressed to look like a New England cottage kitchen for some reason with wainscoting and white marble counters. If you really pay attention to the concept at one of the many food halls that's been popping up in LA, you'll notice this. The food generally range from pretty good to very good, depending on what you order, but as always your mileage may vary. Pricing is pretty similar to other establishments. We had oatmeal, she had eggs and bacon and we had juice and coffee and it came out to be a little under $40. That's about the range, but as always if you're smart you can get out of there in good shape. What I like about this location is the amount of outdoor seating. Because it's located off of Ventura, the foot traffic isn't as crazy, but it also limits its exposure to walk ins. Parking is either valet, but save the money and park on the street. Be careful and check the signs if you park in the neighborhood because a $50 meal can easily become a $150 meal. read more

We came here after wedding dress shopping with my sister. The place was bright and popping -- it felt like a Sunday afternoon in 2011. Beautiful vibes. The hummus plate was a decent size, with different veggies sticking out from the hummus and a size of crunchy pita. The hummus itself was a bit on the drier side and could use some more cumin and citrus. Mainly you're eating mashed chickpeas with a thick texture. The southwest salad, I opted out of the corn and tortilla strips. The salad came in a huge stainless steel bowl, felt like I made a salad at home and came to a restaurant to eat it. The burrito was great, and I mean fantastic. The tortilla was crisp and the cheese was melty. The guacamole was full of flavor and the eggs were fluffy not dry. I liked the green sauce, and their sour cream was fresh. The only downside was that my girlfriend and i did get food poisoning that lasted that night through the next couple of days. Went here for YEARS to get their delicious salads- until one day they decided they can't substitute anything m...ever. I don't want iceberg lettuce. There is zero nutritional value in it. I prefer spring greens/butter lettuce. Sometimes I don't like the dressing that comes with a salad, and would like a different dressing- they literally tell you no to any of this- I even offered to pay extra for salad that wasn't iceberg. Not a good way to retain customers. A different dressing or different lettuce in a salad that is not yet made, is an EASY fix they choose not to bother with. Bye Joan's. The salads are iceberg lettuce, hardly have any veggies and the Chinese chicken salad is full of gross flimsy breading from the chicken. They also FORGOT TO INCLUDE THE DRESSING! This is a great little marketplace for friends and families to go to. It's convenient and full of interesting items/foods. The place is spacious with a clean boutique look. There's a coffee bar that serves Stumptown coffee, a bakery & mini deli in the middle, and shelves of imported and homemade ingredients. This place caters to the great community; lots of families are dining inside and outside, the service is so kind, and their food is fresh. I ended up getting an iced brew to cool me down. Me and my sister had a wonderful time sitting around and enjoying our coffee. We wanted to try more, so I decided to purchase Joan's Parmesan Artichoke dip with sliced baguette. It was the best artichoke dip I've ever had compared to the restaurants. This is a steal for $6! I suggest people coming here and taking their time looking around and trying Joan's items. Having a seat and eating while maintaining a conversation is the way to have it. And if you're lucky, you may be able to catch Joan's beautiful self walking around organizing the shelves and talking to everybody. I'll definitely be coming back! read more

My toddler is on the Autism Spectrum and this was the absolute wrong place to order food to go. We didn't even dine in, we ordered to go and even waited outside, but specific staff were absolutely disgusting in their treatment towards me and my toddler. Not only was I clearly apologetic and even courteous, it was not mutual. I felt so ill because this is a place I would frequent, but this treatment and even lack there of has hardened my heart and would never like my toddler and I to experience this again. It was so horrible I had to call later and bring this up with management because I wouldn't want another family to ever be treated this way. Anyway, the manager was understanding and I never followed up because why would I ever want to go back here. What a shame. read more

Quite tasty for fresh, clean food! Farmers' market on Sunday makes this place tough to access, but it is worth the effort. Beautiful pastries and lots of options make this a great place. It's unfortunate that their employees or maybe it's their policy but if you've ever ordered the salad to go or for delivery thru Postmates you're looking to spend about $25 for a side salad. FOOD: I got the Fried Chicken Sandwich and my friends got the Prosciutto di Parma Sandwich and the Short Rib Sandwich. All three of these sandwiches came with a little side of sliced pickles, which were super good! Personally, my sandwich was just mediocre. I just didn't think the chicken was crispy enough. The flavors were pretty basic as well, nothing really stood out. The sandwich was also really messy and just ended up going everywhere. My friend who got the Short Rib Sandwich said it was really good and she even had to leave a few bites left because she was so full. My friend who got the Prosciutto di Parma Sandwich said that it was also just okay. She didn't think the sandwich was filling enough and was still hungry after. We all agreed that the pickles were good though lol. WAIT: There was really no wait, but the place itself is so busy it's hard to find a table to sit at. Once you find a table, they bring the food out pretty quickly. I think the food came out within 5-10 minutes of sitting down. PARKING: My friends and I parked at a parking structure maybe a block or two away. It was called Studio City Parking next to Bank of America. It was $0.90 per hour so it wasn't bad at all. read more

Consistently delicious food and nice seating outside. They have a bunch of fancy cheeses and meats that I will buy when I'm rich one day, and their breakfasts are amazing. I get the fried egg sandwich and sub the Canadian bacon with mushrooms and IT. IS. AWESOME. Their coffee is great and the service is fast. We come here monthly! Weekends are slammed. A wonderful selection of delicious food in a great facility. This is a restaurant where you go up to the counter and order your food. There is one counter for normal food and another for coffee and desserts. It may be a little difficult to find parking in front but there is street parking a few blocks away. I went here on a Saturday morning and even though it was crowded I ordered and received my food pretty quickly. There is a huge selection of food from salads, to eggs, to sandwiches. I got a delicious salad that seemed healthy. It had lettuce, amazing goat cheese, and delicious grilled chicken. The price wasn't too bad and the serving of chicken in my salad was very generous. Every other dish I saw other people get looked amazing as well and I look forward to trying other dishes in the future! read more

News Flash ! Restaurants have been open in LA county for a while now, but I don't think Joan's on 3rd has gotten the memo. They are still closed - There is an opening in the doorway to order from and some outdoor tables. If you need to use the restroom, you must wait for a manager to come so they can take your temperature. When the food came - everything was overly cold - bread was semi stale from the cold. It's clear that nothing is being made fresh but it has all been sitting in the refrigerator for too long. Now, before people think I am not taking Covid seriously.... the annoyance comes from the fact that they are still taking these measures, but they are NOT cleaning their seating areas in between customers at all. The tiny opening at the door makes for people bunching up in "line" to order and many more are milling about the door and where people are eating waiting for their food to go. Additionally, they are still operating on a limited menu - so the whole experience is subpar. It makes NO sense and the food and service suffer for it. This visit was made in June, I am not sure if now that it is July anything has changed but I will not be back to find out. read more

I absolutely love how cute this place is. I came here for lunch with a girlfriend because it had been previously recommended to us. We were not disappointed. I ordered a tuna melt from the food area and it was delicious the bread was perfectly toasted and the tuna salad itself was amazing. I also got a chai latte, which is my go to drink at any cafe, but it's safe to say the chai here might be my new favorite. The place itself is very laidback & the staff is friendly, they had no problem answering questions my friend and i had. I think people come here more for the ambiance than the actual food. Nonetheless, the food was alright. My friend and I ordered a tuna melt and the veggie rice bowl to split. The tuna melt was actually really good but super oily and left us both feeling heavy afterwards. The veggie rice bowl was underwhelming and could use more seasoning, but the coconut lime sauce it came with was good. The place itself is very cute and there is a section where you can order food and a coffee and pastry section. There is an adequate amount of seating indoors and outdoors. You take your number and hope to find a table! We went on a Friday afternoon and it was pretty busy. Prices were okay and so was the customer service.
