    Buttermilk pancake!
    Donna C.

We decided to dine-in and checkout the new menu. So glad we did. My husband tried the lamb chops. I managed to sneak a tiny sliver off one, and it was melt-in-your-mouth tender and seasoned to perfection. The sides were mashed potatoes and sautéed vegetables. Both were delicious. I opted for the chicken cordon bleu and it was absolutely delightful and accompanied by the same two sides. Delish. The dessert carousel in the entry was just too tempting to pass up. We each tried the cheesecakes they were offering that evening; Cinnamon Roll Cheesecake and the Chocolate Chip Coffee Cheesecake. Creamy, decadent, and perfect with a cup of coffee. That all happed last Friday. We returned this Friday and selected two more entrees to try off the new menu. I had the grilled salmon...it was perfection! My husband ordered the lemon garlic shrimp from the pastas section. He loved it. I was the only one that had dessert. No cheesecakes were in the carousel this time. But I thoroughly enjoyed a piece of pumpkin cream pie. It was light, fluffy, and not super sweet, like a traditional pumpkin pie can be sometimes. In addition to an updated menu, the interior of Joe's has been spiffed up. Very nice. We had the same server both nights, and she was helpful and very charming. Can't wait to try more of the menu!

    BBQ Special

The food is pretty solid, not exceptional, but worth a try It's been decades since we ate at Joe's, probably because the last time we were there, we weren't impressed. Well, they have new owners, so my wife and I decided to try again. The food is much better, it's solid, good portions, and very reasonably priced compared to other Restaurants serving some of the same dishes (more later). For example, I tried the Friday special of Fish and Chips. The fish was nice, not fishy tasting, not greasy, with a nice, if somewhat bland, batter. The same dish at, say, Rowley's is superior and costs at least $10 more. So yeah, you can get better F&C's, but this version was pretty good. The chips (fries) had the skin on (great!), not overly salty, and tasty enough to eat without ketchup, my standard of a good fry. It came with a very nice Hawawin cole slaw, the kind with bits of pineapple. Nice. My wife had the special of the day, which was a BBQ plate. I know, a diner for BBQ? It was actually quite good, and better than many of the Restaurants that serve BBQ (I'm talking about you, Texas Roadhouse, with your 'award-winning ribs'). The plate came with ribs, brisket, and a sausage. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender, albeit a bit dry; they needed the nice, if slightly too sweet, BBQ sauce. The brisket was much better; tender and juicy. But the sausage was excellent! I think they are made in-house. The seasoning's flavor profile was excellent. It also came with the nice cole slaw and decent pickled red onions. Also, a rather large, unnecessary, and flavorless slice of thick "Texas toast". Joe, you can this item from the dish, it's not needed nor tasty. Our server, David L, was excellent in all respects. We went early on a Friday, around 5:30 PM, and there were plenty of tables, but by 6:15 the main dining area was getting pretty full. There's a nice and large back room with a full bar. The new owners have upped their game at Joe's dinner (and pizza, which we didn't try in Santa Fe, a town that struggles with this dish). I recommend you give it a try. It isn't going to blow you away, at least we were not blown away, but the food was solid, the menu has something for virtually everyone, and the service was great. Lots of parking, good location for a meal on the 'south side'. Give it a try.

    Bourbon Pecan Apricot pie

Always great food with a never ending variety of choices made fresh daily. I had the special of the day. Every day is different. What I recall the most was the Bourbon Pecan Apricot pie. Yummmmm! The staff is amazing. There when you need them but also not a bother if you want to chat with your friends while perusing the menu.

Great food. Great service. Interesting interior. Highly recommended. I'm coming back.

The right amount of bacon, lettuce and avocado! Yum!!

I wanted a BLT. I didn't think this place would bring me a great sandwich but I was wrong. This was the best BLT I've ever had. Most of the time they are skimpy on the bacon. This place loads it on! Yum!! Yum!!

The fish is terrific; moist on the inside, crispy on the outside, not fishy; a really nicely done fried fish. The fries were a big miss! Last time they were overly salted, and we did mention this to the staff. This time, it was worse; not too salty, but everyone was unhappy with the texture. Some thought they were frozen (they had that frozen fry texture), but of course, they were not, we were told. The taste was OK, but after a few fries, none of us could eat any more. They all ended up in the trash. Too bad because the most challenging part of fish and chips is the fish, which Rowley's does very well. Chips? Nope! You can ask for a Caesar instead, but it's rather lackluster (more later). My wife had the Green Chile Tuna Melt, which was pretty good and unusual. They use wild yellowtail to make the salad, and it was a nice upgrade from the usual. Not fishy like Tuna can be (although if you like tuna salad, which we do, that's not an issue). Had a nice kick from the Chile, nice bread, etc. We recommend this dish. Came with a side Caesar salad, which was pretty bland. It's all about the dressing, of course, and this version didn't seem to have any anchovies I could detect, nor the necessary other ingredients to make it remarkable. Could have been ranch or any other 'white' dressing. Another miss. Tried the Roasted Brussels Sprouts, which were pretty good (need more roasting), and need the bacon as a default. The version at Box Car is far superior. But not bad here, not a miss. But better We also tried the Grilled & Roasted Vegetables topped with feta. This dish was delicious! A really nice side for those who want something healthy with their fried fish. The waiter knew we didn't like the fries, so he 'comped' us dessert, which was a very nice gesture. We tried the Bread Pudding and the Mango Cheesecake. The cheesecake was way too cool, so its texture was hard and not what I'd normally expect. There wasn't a trace of Mango I could detect. The crust was nice. Not a miss, but not something I'd order again. The bread pudding was pretty good, not the best in class, but more successful than the cheesecake. Not overly sweet, thankfully, but a bit dense. Service was very good! Our server was Gerson C, who got everything right. The kitchen served the food promptly, and everyone was served at once. But overall, too many misses for me to be convinced to go back.
